A few things to consider:
- Generate the wallet offline
- Add proper entropy (moving mouse, etc)
- Make sure the printer does not have a memory and can't store a copy of the wallet
- Print more than one copy and store in different places
- Protect the paper with plastic

Find and old printer, It will have enough resolution.

Remember to print two or more copies and keep them safe (in different places of your home).

Print 7 addresses / page, don't waste paper.  Tongue

If you use an old printer and the paper wallet includes a QR Code make sure to test the code without sending funds.

It's a good idea to test all address QRs, if they work fine, the private key QRs will work fine.

But If the QR doesn't work, don't worry, you can type the private key.

This is what I have done.
1. Go to https://www.bitaddress.org
2. Download the zip file. Upload it to a new flash drive.
3.Use a offline computer or a new computer.
4. Open up the bitaddress.org.html file.
5. Generate a new address and print it out.
This is the best way that I have learned to have the safest bitcoin wallet.

i am trying to make some paper wallets but what do you consider a "dumb" printer? a very old one that only can print and nothing else? i have a printer bought a year ago, very cheap, it has no features beside printing. that one should be fine?

Make sure it's a printer at home don't use public for it.

And yes older the better.   If it's newer you might see what it takes to clear cache as you do not want your wallet within it.

I will add three things :
1-consider printing on a paper that resists to water or to protect the paper.
2-encrypt your wallet paper with a simple code for some added security
3-store your wallet papers very safely.

Hey - I just go to https://www.bitaddress.org and unplug my computer from the internet. [Site work offline]
I then generate a couple of paper wallets with a BIP38 pass phrase and print it.
I then reboot both the computer and the printer to clear out the cache and printer buffer.
BAM - Bob's your uncle, the job is done. ^LoL^

Number 3 is especially important.  If you have a safety deposit box it is very good for it.   Or have a decent safe at home.

armory has a workaround for connected or compromised printers .

I would say don't use connected print unless you know what you are doing
