I propose starting a Political party for Bitcoin in Australia.

We could field a candidate for the Federal Senate, and perhaps some State elections.

To be registered as a political party we need 500 persons signed on who are on the electoral roll, a constitution and a few other things.

Opening the floor to ideas/merits discussion on policy etc.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I don't know how that's actually going to work. It's a great idea, but probably not really something that is actually achievable.

Interesting idea but what will be your program?
What you will offer to public?
How you will solve your country problems?
Just with BTC?
I don't think this is realistic approach.

Will you legalize marijuana? Will you accept more Chinese immigrants? Do you support death penalty? Will you raise the speed limit?

There are many questions a political party shall answer...

Well I think that this was discussed somewhere, but not in relation to Australia.
Since I'm not sure how the election system works there, could you tell me the estimate number of votes needed to win a seat in the Senate?

If your first approach with a new party is, what questions, they haven't answered, yet, you just show, that you want to stick with your old parties.
Look at the program of this old parties: They mostly just copy content from the years before regardless if the context has changed.

There is nothing wrong, with forming a party, that just has a few goals.  Any really new party(so not parties that just split up from an existing party)  won't get that much votes at their first try anyways. So, the few people who get a seat, will have enough to do, with their few goals anyways.

Bitcoin is the answer to everything.

Will you legalize marijuana?
Bitcoin.

Will you accept more Chinese immigrants?
Bitcoin.

Do you support death penalty?
Bitcoin.

Will you raise the speed limit?
Bitcoin.

All jokes aside, a political party based on an Internet currency is bound to fail.

All the Pirate Parties in Europe also were based on the goal of a free internet. Some of them are doing fine.

The party doesn't need to be the absolute winner. Now that's unrealistic. Getting some support at first would be okay. I'm actually surprised that there aren't any Bitcoin Parties so far.
One should appear in more developed countries.

Remove the 'currency' aspect of the party, replace it with decentralisation and votes will flow in.

The platform would be way too narrow.

What would the BTC Party's take be on healthcare, environmental issues, foreign affairs and diplomacy, land management, etc?

This would be cool although I don't know if it would work... Why would other people want to vote for them? Especially those who do not know about Bitcoin, why would they vote for this part? Would it not be better to start a political party based on the majority of ideas the bitcoin community has? You could have policies on many topics then and have more of a reason for others to vote for you.

Single theme parties are quite common in Oz and get elected reps in.

The thing is you have to be a party to realistically get elected because of the the voting system, above the line or below, eg the party get to to be put above the line, or you have to fill in 1~100 people in without mistake.

The strength can lay in preferences even if you don't get elected.

Double taxation of BTC would be one issue.
