Some of the FPGA stuff on the market is interesting.
I doubt the claims some providers are making in regards to upcoming ASIC.
Honestly, your best bet imo is buying 7970's - they will pump out good hash, and retain resale ability should this all go to hell.
7970x2 cards have been seen in the wild tho, and 7990's should debut soon.
Specialized equipment will save you energy and pump out slightly more hash, but there is no secondary market for them.

As you I do see the FPGA as having a short mining life span... But something tells me that I will be able to find other uses for them to support the BitForce Single SC's... maybe maybe not...
Being new to the game.... just eliminating the learning curve on the FPGA will be payment enough for me... I want to position myself as best as possible when SC's arrive.
