I am looking to buy bitcoins through paypal as this seems to be the only option available to me.
Unless someone knows where I can buy bitcoins in Australia?

You'll be hard pressed to find someone willing to sell to you via Paypal, it's way too risky.
Your best bet is
www.spendbitcoins.com. Excellent service.
Failing that, I'll have some to sell this coming week (not via Paypal though). I'd be happy to do it via Bank Transfer however.
