Winner Of 27K Bitcoins Purchased At USMS Auction Revealed

To date, the United States Marshal Service has allegedly held three auctions for a portion of the 144,000 bitcoins confiscated in the wake of the October 2013 Silk Road bust. These auctions are claimed by Qntra to have allegedly occurred due to the continued refusal by the USG to respond to FOIA requests for further information on the alleged winners of the Bitcoin auctions. To that end, Qntra conducted and has now concluded its own investigation into the identity of the winner of the largest sum of bitcoins in the auction held by the USMS on the 5th of March 2015. That person's identity can now be revealed as real estate advisor, property manager, investor and entrepreneur Larry Dean Silvey.

Until the presumed winners come forward, we can never be certain, the evidence is not strong. Even if they reveal themselves, they will not tell us their bids.  Wink

So the bidders were buying for a group of people, this has happened before and was to be expected.
Part of the sum was immediately moved to Bitfinex - again nothing new, at least some of these people must be traders. With a sum this big you can make a ton of money even on small <$10 movements.

It takes courage to put more than ~$2,000 worth of BTC on any exchange.
You are correct that the traders can make great money.  Smiley

Coindesk, this is an complete embarrassment..... to think I quoted MANY of their articles in MANY forums. {I will backtrack those forums, and make a amendment to them, pointing out this matter}

Back to the OP's post .... Using a front company will most certainly hide the identity of the group... so we will most probably never know the truth.  Sad

Using a front company normally shows bad intentions.... so I feel a bit apprehensive about them anyways.

Hmm, is this confirmed? Does anyone know how much they paid per coin? Was it much below market rate? I dunno why they would buy just to immediately move to an exchange and sell on otherwise.

Wow that is ridiculous. I can understand them accepting other mediums of payment but not accepting bitcoin as one is treacherous. According to the link they only pay their staff members in PayPal as well.

For the life of me, I will never understand why any currency promoter would not see the wisdom of paying for their goods and services with their own currency.  Currency is supposed to be used as a means for the transfer of goods and services between buyers and sellers.

PICISI will be a site that will accept all publicly traded cryptocurrencies, because we respect the notion that everyone should be able to treat their own currency as a currency instead of only as a commodity.  The strength of a currency is in utility.

As for Coindesk, obviously they have a right to demand the currency of their choice, but it obviously make easy sense to have a path for acceptance of btc.
