Does anyone know what happens if you migrate your bitcoin faucet hosting to a new host and create a new database instead of using the old one?

What are the consequences, if there are any? I don't think there will be data loss, as bitcoin faucets don't need passwords, etc, but just wanted to make sure.

I backed up my whole faucet site except my database, which I'm kicking myself for right now. I'm trying to get in touch with my hosting provider, but he doesn't check the forum often, so I'm temporarily migrating to a new host. I can easily back up everything, and set up a new database, but I want to know if there are any consequences in switching a faucet database. Thanks!

It depends on what faucet script you're using.
Most probably the DB stores addresses, number of claims, last claim, balance per address, among other things. So if you lose that information probably your users could lose some balance and will definitely complain for that.
Let us know the faucet you're using to get better help.

I'm using microwallet. I don't think users will lose balance, as my faucet doesn't store their balance, it sends to microwallet automatically, so I think that will be fine. Thanks. Any more help is welcome!

Does your faucet has a referral scheme? If so, your users will lose all referrals, and people with a shit ton of referrals are going to be pissed!

Not if he's able to migrate the referral listing as well (and just wipe the rest).

OP, we need more details about your setup to answer your question properly. This is like saying "if I fill my car with octane 87, will it cause issues?" What kind of car is it? Is it electric? Is it a diesel? Can't answer without information.

Could you tell please me how do I migrate the referral listing? As for faucet site details, I have a backup of everything except the database.  Undecided

I don't really need to worry about that, as the last claim getting erased will just benefit the users, storing addresses won't be a problem as I'm pretty sure users will do one simple copy and paste again, as for number of claims, and balance per address, I don't need to worry about that as microwallet does that for me. Right now, I just want to see if there is a way to restore referrals. Any more help is welcome!

Like above users told, please give more information. Are you using Microwallet faucet script? Or your own custom made script?

I've stated above that I am using the microwallet faucet script.

I thought you were saying that you are using Microwallet micropayment service(using API). I think you may loose referral data. Minifrij already told you. Hope everyting goes okay for you.

Ok thanks! I agree, hopefully goes well. My faucet has been down for a day already because of my hosting  Undecided I've tried to move name servers, but the name servers won't move! Does it take a few days for nameservers to move?
Any more help is welcome!

Are you updating your nameservers or just the DNS entries? The former can take up to one day, the later about a couple of hours.
If you've waited more than one day probably there's something wrong.
Where is your domain registered at?

I'm updating the nameservers, my domain is at godaddy. I haven't waited more then one day yet, but the domain is still using the old nameservers. I'm not sure if this is normal or if I configured them wrong.

Run it through https://www.whatsmydns.net/ and see what it comes up with. In my experience, NS will update within a few minutes on most of the servers there. Some will take slightly longer. But if you updated your NS a while ago, they should be showing up on at least some servers there.

Thanks, I just checked and now the nameservers have successfully switched. Will now start working to restore my site!

EDIT: The two nameservers keep switching between each other, but I read somewhere that it takes around 2 days for the old nameserver to stop connecting. So I hope this is normal.

NP! Look through your databases. You should have one that only has referrals. It might even be named "referrals" or something like that. I'm not familiar with their system but that's how I'd do it. If this is there, simply export that table and import it to the new host.

Ah ok, thanks. I'm just having one more problem....

I've backed up http://bitcoinshowers.com on the new host. Thing is, the claims don't seem to work. Any ideas why this might be? Also, my balance on microwallet shows as 0.002xxxxx btc, but on the backup, it shows faucet balance as 0.004xxxxx btc. Have I done something wrong?

Again, you need to provide more information.
First check the logs by the webserver (apache or whatever you're using). It could appear in the cPanel console if you use that.

Does the faucet write its own log?

Lol, I found the problem, I was using a cache version of bitcoinshowers.com and going ctrl+u, so the stats stay the same always. I have an actual backup, I will now use that instead.
