proof of cash reserves- technological solution?

Wondering if theres a tech solution to the problem of checking cash reserves.
The only solution I can think of is regular independent audits of accounts.

Bitcoin- you can view on the blockchain, and maybe possible using proof of reserve-hash checks.

Are there any ideas on how to do this for cash?  This is important beyond bitcoin....

have you look at TLSNotary. It allows you to prove your fiat account's webpage. Although this proof is not non-interactive. You can prove it only to a specific entity which must also be online at the time of the audit.
