I can confirm he can make calls as he just called me in the UK followed instructions to get the options on it however I do not get the options on it. Must be  device dependent at the moment,.

Receiving calls on Sony xperia z1 compact but no options to call anyone  after following instructions.

Is android 4.4.4 on kitkat should work and laos found latest version to have it in but also found elsewhere needs to be rooted device and my device also rooted and on custom rom too so should not make difference

In that case, make sure hack for WA is the latest hack

Edit: Custom Rom is most likely your prob if the OP's hack works on others.. prob with custom roms, is they tend to have more bugs than origional rom.. I have flashed a few fones in my time, used to flash lot's of android, but then got so fed up of bits not working that I learnt to stick with origional..

Just about to go on stock rom and test this out. Doubtful it will make any difference but locking everything up and leaving un rooted. Doubt it going to make much difference as roms I get are bug free and work flawless.

Well tried standard rom including jellbaby and gingerbread and now back to kitkat 4.4.4. Tried all stock roms and custom am now back on does not work. From what I have read their  is a server that is switched on at random times that enables the feature to make calls and even on latest version says it has update in it but does not work. Maybe they have limited phone support for this feature while in beta.

Well from what I have been reading their is also a manual way to get it confirmed by using terminal with Super user. Followed the guide bit for bit got the call again, however still did not activate. After also reading several pages elsewhere seems they a a server that is on at random times of the week and random times throughout the day to activate the services. Having said that also have read they have now fully supported this feature in their latest release, downloaded installed no call option. Whatsapp need to get their act together and get this fixed so I can call and keep in contact with my family over seas.

*IF YOU HAVE THE VERSION 2.11.561 INSTALLED READ FROM THE POINT 7.

1.-Make sure you are using a good antivirus and that it is updated.
2.-Download WhatsApp v560 from the original WhatsApp website. Click here.
3.-Download WhatsApp v561 from here.
4.-Rename the apk files according to your wish so that you can identify the two versions easily. For example, WhatsApp560.apk and WhatsApp561.apk, respectively.
5.-Now copy both the apk files to your smartphone’s storage.
6.-Install WhatsApp v561 by simply tapping on the apk file using any file manager app. Make sure you have ‘Unknown sources’ checked in ‘Settings’ to install apps from third-party sources. The option should pop up on its own if you don’t have it enabled.
7.-Now go to ‘Settings’ and then to ‘Application Manager’ where all your apps are listed/running. Find WhatsApp and ‘Force Stop’ it. This will kill the WhatsApp application running in the background so that WhatsApp can restart again. Don’t worry, your contacts and registration will not be reset. This step is faster than restarting the entire smartphone again, unless you wish to reboot.
8.-Now wait for a WhatsApp enabled caller to call you, or if you know someone who has it, request him/her to call you. Once you receive the call, WhatsApp calling feature is enabled for you.
9.-Now that your WhatsApp Calling feature is enabled, you can go back to step 6, but install the original WhatsApp v560 app which was downloaded from the WhatsApp.com website. This app is the official WhatsApp release and will assure you that you are using original software. The v561 WhatsApp version will be overwritten by the official one.
10.-Continue with step 7 and you are all done. WhatsApp calling should be enabled for you.

For me it work this way;

One friend told me about new phone calls with the APP. and the he make a call from his phone to mine.

After the call i close the APP and re-open it. after that the APP has a change, i see the Calls option now and i can do a phone calls to any android user using W.A.
