Great idea! Hey, theymos, would incorporating such cost over or under half a mill for the devs to code?  Wink

It was suggested 2 times in 'New Forum Software'. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=660764.0 and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=696573.0.

A list of popular exchanges may have to add if this is going to be implemented.

Actually, all that's needed to be done is some json parsing from the exchanges and taking the mean value.

Also, when is the new forum software coming out? Or when was it "supposed" to come out?

Different people use different exchanges and also taking mean isn't a good for listing price IMHO.

It was supposed to come last month. It will come soon as the developers are at the end.

It's a general purpose forum that's intended to compete with others. Once the theme engine is in place, we'll be able to get more involvement from the public. For now, you can check out the source. On top of that a beta is being evaluated with the staff at this point so please sit tight.

Is there a list of upcoming improvements that are going to be or plan on being made to the forum? I would love to see a btc price index.

I don't think this would be necessary. For starters, you can always open a window on your browser and look at the live price. No point installing it on the forum. You're here to discuss, not to look at the prices.

Also chart buddy has got some good price info on his thread. You might want to check that out.

Value of BTC is an important factor. I don't think it is hard to implement, if a user doesn't want it, he/she can turn it off in profile settings. Most probably, in Look and Layout Preferences.

That thread is full of spam. It is better to look chartbuddy's post history than the thread.

Thanks for the link MZ, i haven't really kept up with whats happening with the new forum, the link theymos provided to was a good read, some great changes coming.

Keeping on topic, a btc ticker would be pretty cool, it wouldn't hurt.
I think a lot of us here already check the price everyday anyway.

If you install jackjack's BT++ Script, you would be able to add a Bitcoin price ticker at the top of the page. It's very useful, It can show various exchanges and the average, mine is set to the average. I'll post a picture
just now.

Everyone's not a computer geek to be able to do it themselves. But I certainly think like other sites a bitcoin ticket somewhere on top would be a great idea.

You don't want to be a computer geek to do it. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=264337.0. He explained it well! It is very simple.
