Great news. If Rakuten is now accepting bitcoins as payment method I think other online shops may also consider it! After all, bitcoin = more profit for them. Amazon, we're waiting for your move now.

I look forward to play.com supporting this...

In other thoughts, I wonder if there is a way for wallets to automatically provide a refund address?

Very good news indeed!  Maybe this will cause the ball to start rolling for adoption from Amazon.

Each little bit of a news is an important piece of the puzzle.  Building blocks to mass adoption and mainstream use.

Great news, hope they decide to roll out bitcoin payments in the EU aswell.

Never heard of Rakuten before but the more merchants on board the better. Now Ebay and Amazon need to step up Wink

It's indeed good news. Best I've heard start of this year. Imagine this scenario, if Rakuten can do it and successfully integrate bitcoin into its own payment system, then why can't ebay or amazon do that same. It opens up a whole new possibility towards better coin adoption and I mean this is really big in terms of the impact.

I think rakuten should display the bitcoin sign next to visa and mastercard, i had to register an account, enter my address/name just to check if they offer bitcoin, there are a lot of bitcoiners that won't necessarily be aware of this news.

Also they should add a note when buyer is asked to pay a certain BTC amount explaining what would happen if buyer does not pay the correct amount (i.e order cancel and refunded ) , there always gonna be people trying to pay a little less than the stated amount even if its just satoshis, human greed... this is an advice for every company actually cause the more btc is adopted the more this hiccup will happen.

I was also wondering why some company only allow btc payment from certain countries? rakuten for example is japanese co so why only in usa? doesn't make sense to me , i have nothing against americans btw Smiley

It is a pity that it is only available in the US, but I hope that when they see the sales amount they expand it to other regions

It is explained in their help pages. They request more until it is paid. And if enough is never paid, they refund.

They're closing down play.com soon and relaunching as a full Ratuken site. I assume it might be added then. Once again the US creams us.

In the article on coinspeaker it's written that rakuten.de (Germany) and rakuten.at (Austria) will be the next where Bitcoin as payment option will be offered. Hope it won't take too long! Smiley
