Look for "bitcoin mining calculator", there are quite a number of them. Enter the data for this miner and weep.
If
- you pay less than 0.50 US$ for it
- your electricity is free
- and the difficulty does not increase much,
you'll earn a few cents after one year...

I can't recommend any, as I don't have enough experience. Maybe others will be able to give advice.
However, you should always be aware that even professional miners operate close to the equilibrium. That is, even with their presumably cheap electricity and miners that were cheaply bought in bulk, it's hard to make a positive ROI. Home miners most likely are unable to recover their investment.
If you absolutely want to mine, you can do it, but expect a net loss. If you're just looking for an efficient way of turning fiat money into bitcoins, buying them is the preferred method.

Probably a used piece of gear. An S1 might be bought for $50, or I expect an Rbox (the original 32 GH version). You could also consider several other "stick miners" which are much faster and more recent than the 333MHz Block Erupter. Examples would be the Antminer U1 or U2. I expect that all the "stick miners" won't actually produce more than they consume in terms of electricity, and initial cost. They will all fit your $50 budget for a hobby or tinkering. Nobody gets rich mining Bitcoins unless they are willing to invest (i.e. risk) big money.

I miss these.  I had 60 running at one point in my life.

At this point they are good for learning mining, but are considered a novelty.  They are so low power sadly you will not make your money back.

Unfortunately $50 you sink into any Bitcoin miner: Antminer S1, Rock miner, Dragon, etc...will just be sunk costs.  You will probably never recoup that $50 investment unless somehow you hide the electrical bill from your Mom, Pop, or Landlord for a year then shut it off.

But if you're in it just to hobby mine and learn about Bitcoin mining, maybe earn a few satoshis, be my guest!

at the current difficulty you can expect to make about 0.00000353/satoshis/day or 0.00002472/satoshis/week which is just over 0.03 usd per month. So in answer to your op question the answer is a definite NO!

once again a usb stick is around 2gh  some are 4gh  they make close to nothing.   but they cost almost  0 in power.  here is a set of sticks running
They make very little money I run the 10gh  on a balanced some goes to ck's solo pool some goes to mmpool.org

If you ran this it should lose money unless the power is free.

I hope you are doing this for hobby, because you can earn almost nothing with miners you have.

I think he found this out already he mentioned a article about it making a hour a day a year ago.   But today's it's just not enough to do much more then learning to mine.
