You're right, there's a whole generation of users that will become Legendary, and this rank will get what Sr. Member is nowadays, cool but not so much awesome.
There was really no need to quote my post back from 2015. I don't think there are a lot of legendary (yet). I'm sure that someone could run the numbers (which may be a bit difficult considering the status of the members page).

In my opinion i think the best option will be 'Mythical Member'  Grin
This one is magic sounding but I like Epic member myself.
I disagree with it. People shouldn't get a rank like that just because they were active for a few years. You can already occasionally see some hero/legendary members that have very limited or flawed understanding of Bitcoin.

Well it was just a suggestion.

So it would be safe to say you hate the hackforum rank naming system as that would be misleading of their membership classes too. Undecided

Or is saying that name of that particular forum a bad word? Cheesy

I'm not familiar with that particular naming system and my search engine has provided me with inadequate results in the amount of time that I've spent researching.

Or is saying that name of that particular forum a bad word? Cheesy
I'm saying the system isn't optimal at all, in addition to those type of names making it worse. It makes it seem like those members are "trusted" or have "knowledge" regarding Bitcoin, when we know that time spent on the forum is not the causation for that.

There is 1095 Legendary members. The oldest one register in 2009-12-10 (The only Legendary member from 2009 ) and the most recent one is from 2014-09-26. The number should be correct if the "Search members" - by position is working correctly (it seem to work correctly).

EDIT: More stats :

  • 2009: 1 Legendary
  • 2010: 38 Legendary - Total: 39
  • 2011: 256 Legendary - Total: 295
  • 2012: 142 Legendary - Total: 437
  • 2013: 480 Legendary - Total: 917
  • 2014: 178 Legendary - Total: 1095

What if instead of a new rank, if we could lost activity, say lose one point per day that you dont log in starting after 90 days, or lose X amount of points per Y amount of days you go without posting.

You would still have people accumulating activity and beyond a point, there would be legendary accounts with a large difference in activity.
We haven't reached that point yet, but when we do, it would be nice to have a new rank there.

A lot more people joined and stayed in 2013 than 2014! That doesn't surprise me but it's a pretty huge difference. Thanks for the info.

The majority of the forum would still be legendary at some point so it makes the entire legendary title pointless if everyone else is also legendary.

The current highest rank here is Legendary with 775-1030 activity points to achieve. Perhaps we can have a higher rank at like 1300-1400 points? Like 'History Maker' or 'Part of Bitcoin History' etc.?
It's just a suggestion. You can take or not take it.

Well how about "King" Cheesy

No. Read the thread before responding. At this time, it is highly unlikely that theymos is going to introduce a new rank / new ranking system.

Beyond ranks it would also be quite interesting if there's something like points that can be gained through various means. For instance the amount of people that read and like one's posts, the amount of reputation and post length and quality etc. could be determining factors for such a point system

edit: other than the post right under mine, I was actually not suggesting a point system where points can be redeemed for rewards. Just something more than post count -- I love statistics, and I enjoy getting points for my account's activity.

Yeah I like the idea of a points system. The points can then be redeemed for special prizes like bitcoin merchandise when the forum became bigger and have more budget.
