There are many newbies who create multiple accounts to scam members who are unaware of the use of escrow and so I would request if there could be some kind of restriction in that section for newbies and junior members, it would reduce the scams. It's just a request.

The scam or scam attempt are not moderated by the staff (at the moment). There are a lot of users that give a negative trusts to all the suspicious users (for prevent any type of scam).

Agreed on this one.
Not only Newbies if you ask me , Jenior Members should be Restricted too, I mean He gotta start somewhere to start scamming so basically he should scam to get red flagged then it's too late . making only Members or above able to post on Marketplace may help people on not getting scammed , they can see the seller previous posts or something like that

I think that people need to learn how to take the proper precautions when trading with Bitcoin, both on the forum and elsewhere.

Sure a lot of newbies will attempt to scam however this is not always the case. My first post was creating a sales thread. I probably shouldn't say this (it might give people the impression that it is safe to send first to newbies) but around the same day I created this account someone was willing to send first to me for an account - he offered to send 1/2 first then I send the account then he sends the second half, I told him that he can send the entire amount first or we can use escrow, he sent first and I followed through.

If people know how to protect themselves from getting scammed then it doesn't matter what level account is creating threads in the marketplace.

I aint talking about Moderation. I am saying that a certain badge like Members  or Full Members should be allowed to post in the Marketplace. Many forums have this limit and so that user needs to be active here and then be allowed to post in the Marketplace section.

he is not asking for the scam or likely scam to be removed rather ask something like a newbie jail targett ed only for marketplace boards

Partial agree, most scams/scam attempts are done with new account, but IMO, this will just create some kind of discrimination to the lower rank, as not all people tend to spend time here and increase their account rank, there could be some legit newbies doing some business here

I too was a newbie when I sold my first product in the Digital Goods section. The newbie trusted me for $90 and he sent first. He is still dealing with me today. But still I believe that there should be some restriction in that section to reduce scams. That section looks like every newbie creates a new account and sells fraudulent gift cards the moment his earlier account gets a negative feedback.

I don't think it is fair. There are a lot of newbies or junior members who are honest and reliable. They want to do business or offer somethings to other members of our community, if we ban them there, it will affect their opinions to bitcoin.

With moderated I meant, not endorsed by the Staff. If a legit person wants to sell an item and create a new account (maybe for personal reason) then he will not be able to post in the marketplace board.

I agree with you, there are a lot of "scammer" that want only to cheat, but if the staff put this restriction also the newbie jail should return.

I am not asking to ban them  Undecided

I am saying that make them atleast achieve a rank like Member to post in that section. I don't think 90% of newbies are genuine there and if I count, the percent is 50 or less.

I still like the old idea of newbie jail. It doesn't take long to rank up to at least a junior member. It's like a forum tradition to me.
However, this can lead to newbies scamming newbies and newbies complaining about being treated unfairly(which it kinda is).
The red feedback on my account from Kouye was actually given to me when I was a low rank member, I wouldn't say it stops users from receiving negative trust, but it might have some impact on reducing it.

I actually have a mixed opinion about newbie jail to think about it. It actually holds back a lot of discussion and honest opinions about their topics that they have on mind.
This could also prevent businesses from getting out there.

I don't like newbie jail. Like I have said earlier, many users are coming to forum to ask about technical doubt, other doubts, announce/offer their service etc... Newbie jail prevents them from these and maybe turn them away. Also, like another user told(don't remember who it is), spammers just keep posting to get over it but legit users may turn back.

-snip-

This, not only with bitcoin, but in general. If you trade online, be careful.

I aint talking about Moderation. I am saying that a certain badge like Members  or Full Members should be allowed to post in the Marketplace. Many forums have this limit and so that user needs to be active here and then be allowed to post in the Marketplace section.

Scammers will have no problem to farm an account as high as needed in advance. Those that come here to trade honestly might just go if you restrict them too much. Your soltuion would IMHO have the opposite effect, the honest to scammer ratio would decrease as less honest people would want to farm an account for a trade.

I don't think it is fair. There are a lot of newbies or junior members who are honest and reliable. They want to do business or offer somethings to other members of our community, if we ban them there, it will affect their opinions to bitcoin.

Thats essentially a ban even if its just that section. With your new restriction you will create a false sense of security. People will start to feel safe when they have to reason to. A Hero Member is not trustworthy, just because of the rank.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

It wouldn't reduce them, it would just delay them. You can have a Jnr account in a minimum of 16 days so people would just wait out any restrictions you put in place, and as has already been said lots of genuine people sign up to transact on this forum so it's unfair to restrict them on the basis they may or may not scam or be scammed.

Yes, it is not a good idea to restrict them. There is the Auctions, Gambling boards, (Lending board new posts will see a sharp fall Wink) which will go out if it was done.

Then there will be demand for Jr. member account. But then Digital Goods/Auctions is in Marketplace too.. So, no more selling accounts.. Wink

If you block newbies from Marketplace, they will go elsewhere and scam people. Same result.

I don't believe this is fair to be perfectly honest. Yes, while newbies tend to scam way more than any other type of member, you're basically referring to all newbies as scammers based on an unfair generalization. I do believe there should be newbie restrictions, but marketplaces should be fair game to all. Most scam threads tend to be spotted anyways so the problem isn't too large imo.
