Let's compare and contrast recent notable bitcoin related hacks and this Blizzard hack. Take note of how the principals of the organizations deal with information dissemination, such as how long they took to announce, the clarity of significant information and the relative ease with which users can resolve anything they have to on their end.

Totally an apples/oranges comparison, but I want to see if the big boys do any better.

Edit: This Blizzard Tracker will come in handy, I'm sure. http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/

5 days to announce it? How many of those scrambled passwords could be brute forced in 5 days?
Possibly all of them. However, don't panic just yet, since that article makes a bunch of assumptions. I'm currently poking and prodding Blizzard to release more than just the protocol and tell us what additional security measures they had in place. This is besides the fact the we don't even know if the hacker was able to download the entire database.

Sure, it's safe enough with money you are prepared to lose. No offense to Gox.

If I don't possess it, it's not mine. That might sound wrong at first, but it never fails to protect me.

If bitcoins are not in your sole and direct control, they are not yours. Be prepared to not be able to spend them.

Pretty much anything can get hacked given enough time and effort.  As you shouldn't be re-using your MtGox email or password elsewhere, the major concern about exchanges being hacked is whether they have enough reserves/insurance to cover any losses.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.
