It's obvious it's broken. The blockchain has been stalled for more than 4 hours. Is the dev team working on a fix? Why hasn't the dev team stayed on top of this and communicated with us?

I've compiled a Mac wallet version from the sources provided in OP, but it doesn't sync further than block 601.
And later a clean resync doesn't do anything..
