i know PHP well but am a beginner in C++. i'd like to install and customize a existing one and then il customize it to my layout later

I can teach you how to install insight's explorer. I can add my own rich list script that I've written using insight's API.

You can see a list of open-source block explorers in https://coinmarket.wordpress.com/2013/12/27/how-to-build-a-cryptocoin-blockexplorer/. In Github, they have added Readme files. It might be sufficient. Try to take a look.
