Hello miners, I'd like to introduce myself and announce my brand new Bitcoin mining pool - BTC Canada!

As our pool is very new (official launch was Wednesday, 08/08/2012), we are currently looking for early adopters to help us build our processing power and userbase. Our first users will also have early access beta features as we add them!

Some examples of features in the pipeline:
  • Merged mining (Namecoin)
  • Custom BTC Canada miner/miner configs
  • Instant BTC crediting
  • Extended notifications

Pool info:
  • Canada/US based hosting - very low latency for North American miners
  • User accounts protected by secure connection (SSL/HTTPS)
  • User passwords/pins are all hashed and salted before being sent over HTTPS to the database
  • Service fee of 1.5% for Bitcoins, 0% for Namecoins (when implemented)
  • Users can choose between automatic or manual payouts
  • Pool support multiple miners (workers) per account
  • Pool supports long polling requests and simple JSON API for retrieving current balance and other stats
  • Pool uses the PPLNS reward structure - benefitting those who are unable to mine consistently, while discouraging pool hoppers

How can you join us?
     1. Register here: https://btccan.com/register.php
     2. Create worker(s)
     3. Configure your mining application to point to our server - examples: https://btccan.com/gettingstarted.php
     4. Start mining!

Thanks a lot for your support! With your help, we can grow BTC Canada into Canada's premiere Bitcoin mining pool.

This has been fixed - there was a typo in the code. Thanks for the heads up, Portnoy!

Registered, but I feel lots of affinity for my MtRed pool, with its 0 fees.... I'll try it out for a bit. I'll send the hashes from my 7770 to you, but keep the rest on MtRed for now. Lets see what BTCcan can do!

Thank you to everyone who has joined so far - we're now up to 2 GHash/s with 12 registered users! Just a few more active users and we'll get the time to block discovery below a week Smiley.

How does your site calculate hashrate?

How does your site calculate hashrate?

It adds all users' hashrates together. This value is cached, however, so it will take several minutes for global changes to appear.

No I mean how do you calculate individual hashrate? What is the time length you use?

We calculate your hash from the last 10 minutes of accepted shares, and use a cached value which expires every 30 seconds. As for your historic data, we use 30 minute polling for archiving.

Do you even have any miners yourself running to keep the Pool viable? We're dipping below 1 Gh, and it appears people are abandoning.

I'm just puttering along on the pool with my test miner right now.. If the fee was lower as I would expect for a new/growing pool I might point more workers to the pool.

I agree, Digigami. The 3.5 % is very offputting with a new pool. I have a feeling you and I are the only ones mining with this place with any reasonable hashes.

Yeah I'm always interested in helping new pools get off the ground with my 5+ Gh/sec.. I can handle some variance so small pools are always a bit of fun for me. But, when I'm currently mining on a 0 fee PPLNS pool with steady blocks it's hard to commit to a switch.

BTCCAN, would you consider an introductory zero or more competitive fee to attract some initial power to the pool? Once you have an established user base, factors such as consistant uptime, website and pool features, and other perks certainly make paying reasonable fees more acceptable in my opinion.

I understand your concerns, and I would be willing to offer a lower introductory fee for early adopters. I will be dropping the fee to 1.5% for now and until the pool is self-sustaining (~1 block found per day).

Thanks for opting to adjust your fee! Smiley

I'm going to throw more power at this pool now.. I'm getting better performance connecting to your pool than any others I have tried recently as far as stales and get fails.. Let's see how it scales? Cheesy

If the pool gains a bit more hashrate I might point another .5GH/s here, I like small pools, when they finally find a block I make a lot at once, its more fun waiting for it Grin

Well now that Digi brought his hashes, we're at about 7.5 Gh/s
