If you have already an addiction to gambling blocking the sites won't resolve the problem. To save yourself and your family you have to learn to control yourself in the first place.

Blocking sites won't be a solution for everyone.

There is an easier solution that will just take under 10 seconds, and you won't be able to play with those bitcoins.  Yes, send them all to me  Grin

btw, would anyone be interested in an escrow that just holds the funds for a fixed period and then releases it?

What if the escrow decides to bail with the gathered coins and steal everything? There is no such thing as trusted people over the internet please.

It won't help if you really have an addiction. If you ever got drunk, woke up the next day and told yourself you won't drink again you'll know what I'm talking about.
A real gambling addict if you block his PC will go to a friend or to an internet cafe to play.

Haha spoken like a true addict jk.

No but I agree, I guess the add on helps on to a certain extent. Like you mentioned, I`d prob go borrow my friends laptop and go to starbucks or a pc cafe.

trust is gain over time, there are indeed few person that is trusted on this forum, but that would still be not a guarantee that they wont turn to the dark side in the future

very well said, if you can block the sites IP, then you can unblock it yourself, and if you ask the site to block you, you can either access it using diffrent IP, there are severals ways to bypass this IP block nowadays, so it is not really an effective way

Yep there will always be more. Also you can't block the onchain games, unless you want to block all your wallets and pretty much stop using bitcoin. Just try to block it in your mind and think of how much you lost to try and stop you.

Yea blocks are always reversable and I could unblock as easy as you can block. To really cure your addiction I think you just have to use your brain and not resorting to blocking sites. Think of how much you have lost over the time you were gambling and what you could have used this money for.

Instead of blocking the gambling sites, it may be more efficient to set up a multisig paper wallet with each piece placed in a different location. When you have an urge to gamble, you can only play with the bitcoin in your hot wallet. The troublesome for you to visit 2 different places to gather your paper wallets will hopefully stop you from doing so.

This is a great solution. I had 90% of my funds in my cold wallet (xapo insured vault) so this means it would take at least 24 hours to take it out, and at that point I just don't bother cause it would take too much time. Its too much trouble, and I rethink it when making that decision.

Block the site won't stop you from gambling, as long as you still want continue gambling Sad
The best way is ask someone to help you stop from gambling Smiley

That won't always work. Not everyone is open to their relatives admitting a gambling problem and of all the people with the gambling problem, less than 1% actually consult anyone or find a solution.
Here is a good thread from the past https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=820029.0 , which addresses gambling addiction and working towards solving it.

Well what if escrow decides to bail with any funds they hold there is not really much you can do is there? Lets look at the facts though shall we how many times have you heard of a trusted escrow running with a couple of bitcoin? Me i have never heard of that in well over a year so that would imply there is trusted people over the internet would you not agree?

There was actually someone in the past who offered that service, but the problem was that there is always a risk of the escrow running away with the funds , and even if not, holding your funds with a third party isn't really a smart move. I would rather advice to make a paper wallet out of the funds and have a family member hold it for you for an extended time.

Just to say, that when you realise you have a problem, talk about it to someone, family or friends, be open about it and accept your problem. Trying to block sites(all trazillion of them?) will not help, only hide your problem momentarily. Seek comfort elsewhere, not drugs or alcohol Tongue
But outside yourself, be it a  helpgroup, or just a simple volunteering job. Waste your time and money for a good cause. But always be fair and true to yourself, do not hide your obsession, so people arround you know you have a problem and a lot of those people are willing to help if you acknowledge your addiction.

On the other hand, "helping" the gambling addicts by letting them gamble that you wont run away with their money in exchange for some positive EV of them not blowing it off @dice or whatever is a very interesting idea indeed.

Also, if someone would "hire" me to cure them from their addiction - my first step would be teaching them basic math and probabilities, and by the end of the day they would realize why its retarded to play dice and other -EV games, unless you are already in peace with losing your deposit.

Why are you playing the gamble ? If you want to profit consistently wrong place . Gambling should be played for fun purposes only . Also do not prevent himself a psychologist I would recommend it to appear .

Gambling also includes poker and sports betting, areas where you can have the edge by being better than the crowd, allowing yourself to become the longterm winner.

But mindless low-tier gambling (dice, roulette, etc) should just be played for fun (or for any other reasons that exclude aiming to be in the black)

Dude you are advertising a dice site and you don't agree with people playing it Wink

I have to agree to an extent poker and sports betting is where i have the most fun because for starters i am playing with an against people. Live betting at the races is such a buz and an awesome day out but some like that some don't because they prefer something quick where they can feel the rush and either win a lot or lose a lot the thrill of the chase but each to their own.

I have no gambling problem op because i only play for fun or to socialize and that way even if you lose a few quid which of course i do you think hey it was a good day overall why let paper losses spoil the fun you had, i would hate to be alone losing for no good reason then i would confess to having a problem.
