International Bitcoin Day

Hello everyone,

I'd like to get your opinion on an activist idea/effort for Bitcoin. The idea is to have an International Day for Bitcoin where we ask everyone in the world to use Bitcoin for a day for all their financial transactions.

I've set up a one page website for the concept here: http://IntBtcDay.com

This should also make a good hashtag for the event - #IntBtcDay

I'd like to hear your thoughts/opinions/ideas and input for this effort and also have a few questions.

1.) What day should International Bitcoin Day be held on and why?

2.) What could be done on the day of the event. I'm thinking we might have some type of live webstream with guests/interviews that can help provide information to the newbies we bring in, and entertainment (etc.) for the rest of us.

3.) From there I'd like to hear your thoughts/conjecture on what effects this event might have on Bitcoin (both the good and the bad), how we might measure success, etc.

And if you have thoughts on anything I've missed please feel free to share. I would really appreciate your help.

I hope we can make this something big and really good for this amazing and incredible technology.

Which day it should be is obvious, the 3rd of january, the anniversary of the Genesis block and the de-facto birth of the blockchain.

You should make some videos/articles about "what is bitcoin?" and " why bitcoin is better then FIAT money?".

I like the idea, like the blackouts to save on electricity. Would be cool to beat some kind of record that day too.

So far it looks like Jan 3rd is in the lead.   I guess time will tell, but I did update the countdown clock to reflect that date for now.

I'm sure I can find plenty of great videos out there that I can add to the site.  Good idea.  Thank you!

A meetup?  I hope people use sites like Meetup to spread the word.  I'm hoping we can hash most of the potential details here in this forum/"meetup".

I really like this idea to try Thunderclap.  Thank you!  The platform looks interesting and it can be used with small goals and for free at first.

I'll set one up soon and post the link here.  What type of goal do you think I should set?  25, 50, 100 or more?

It's a nice idea. On the day, we need meet ups in different parts of the world and hand out flyers to promote bitcoin. How about fly a helium ballon with a bitcoin logo to the top of the atmosphere?

What about having it either as a bi-annual event, or a quarterly event?

Jan 3rd IS a great date, but maybe it's a little far off?  I'd love to do this once a quarter if we could pull it off and make something happen for the day.
