Title: So we can get paid BTC for searching on Bing?
Post by: belltown on June 24, 2015, 07:31:28 PM
I've read this article on CoinDesk http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-reward-option-tango-card/ and started looking into what is this Tango Card. It turns out Bing rewards can be paid in Tango Cards. So if the article is true then we can just search with Bing, earn points, then convert these points into TangoCards and convert TangoCards to Bitcoins. In a sense we will be paid Bitcoins for using Bing.

I haven't tried Tango Cards myself yet. Please let me know if anybody did. Still I do use Bing rewards for few years now. I know Bing vs Google is a religious topic, but in a reality they got to the point that whatever you search the search results will be pretty much the same on Google and on Bing. So if Bing pays me for each search and Google doesn't then I will be using Bing. So far I've earned several Xbox gift cards, Skype minutes etc. But now it looks like I can be earning Bitcoins which makes the whole "rewards" thing much more fun for me.

if you haven't heard about Bing rewards go here: https://www.bing.com/explore/rewards (https://www.bing.com/explore/rewards) Or just Google Bing Rewards :)

Let me know if you tried Tango cards and if it's easy to convert Tango=>BTC. So far I'm 170 of 575 points on a way to my first Tango Card. I'll let you know once I get it.

Well I am too and while it is unfortunate for non US I do like that they are giving rewards. This could lead to an extra tenth or more a year in btc and I am not going to say no to that.

Maybe with a proxy it could, there most be a country that has the campaign active, people would go crazy on bing just to make a few bits of bitcoin.

If it is available for more countries, IMO it is not fair for google search! Ppl will go to bing not because of the functionality.

Wait.  So this is available in the United States?  I am going to check it out and if it is I am going to give it a go and will post the findings.  :)  Finally, living in this county has its rewards.  :D

I am not seeing the option anywhere regarding anything bitcoin.  :(

Its actually a good idea if they are trying to promote bitcoin sales or have something coming with bitcoin usage, how many people in the bitcoin community dont mind getting a few extra bit just for searching anything they use to do in google or any other search engine.

i can acces it we must have outlock email to login in microsoft mail

What can you get?

Redeem credits for rewards in the Redemption Center. Choose from popular brands including Amazon.com, Starbucks, Xbox, Fandango and more. You can even donate your credits to your favorite charity.

If you notice, redeeming it via an Amazon gift card has the best "pay-out" for whatever you want to call it.  Just compared the 3 dollar Xbox card to the 5 dollar Amazon card.

it looks like they are bribing people to use their search engine. i don't know how it is going to be effective since majority of people are using google for searching.

I was reading the same article about Tango incorporating bitcoin and kept thinking, "Tango? Where the heck did I hear that from, sounds and looks familiar..."
I saw this topic and yep Tango is a reward option from Bing. I'm only 50 more points away from the Tango card so I'll get it and report back here, looking forward to it.  :)

Sound insanely promising, but i also have the same message when trying to view it, it's not allowed in my country also.
I don't understand why there is the need to block certain countries, don't we all use search engines the same ? Such discrimination, shame!

EDIT: Even with US server over VPN, it still gives me: Bing Rewards isn't available yet in your country or region. There must be a way to get around this!

cheers

I am always using google search, don't get used to the bing's interface and don't like bing's search results as well when I tried it out before! I wouldn't bother to use bing although the btc reward!

I am not a big fan of Bing. Microsoft tried to force Bing as the default browser onto every user using Windows and the other browser companies took them on and they won.

You never get anything for free. Why would they want to pay you to use their browser? They obviously track your search patterns and sell it to the highest bidder. {Browser finger printing / Cookies}

It's nice to get paid, but what are you sacrificing in privacy?

i didn't tried it, because i don't like that search engine, when we have the best one, how much is the payment, or the itipping, something like faucet right?

if this is the case, then i don't think it does really matter if they pay or not, but at least more users will get used to bitcoin, this is the only good thing

Yeah it's only available in US, I don't know if there is a way to bypass it through VPN because I don't use one but I have tried with Proxies and it doesn't works, I have seen a few people selling small $5 USD AGCs every now and then and maybe that's how they're getting those.

But it is good for the existing bing users. Although it is dust amount of money, but they are using the service and there are no reasons to reject earning extra money! It is a kind of campaigh for bitcoin raised by Microsoft. Every body is talking about this reward now.

Bing Rewards is limited to the US market.  If Microsoft were going to make it a global thing surely it would've happened by now.

Not sure if VPN will work. You might gain points but later they might revoke and reset your points.

Thanks for letting me know about this belltown.  I see Tango Cards in the reward list.  I may try for a Tango Card too.  Although as somebody else said the Amazon card is a much better deal, a 100 credits less.   But I am happy to help support bitcoin in any way.

I wouldn't worry about Google.  The competition is healthy for them.  I like to use Bing/videos for my search.  I love the idea of getting paid to search for porn.

that is useless when it comes with restriction and only with Bing because as a search engine bing is not much effective like google, so it will be only for US people and with low reputation search engine with force of use that, i think that tango card would not get popularity when it not comes with majority of market share holder.

30 credits on a double day, so 15 credits on a normal day. 525 credits for $5 amazon, so 35 days for $5, i.e. 14 cents per day.

Not worth using bing, what a joke  :D

well if you dont mind using bing it adds up when you check by the end of the month that extra money google didnt pay you for, if you dont want to use it have your family do it for you. 3 to 4 people gets a good amount of points.

That's 52$ a year or .21BTC who knows what that will be worth in a couple years, and just for searching with Bing, I can live with that.

I know right, lets say your grandma doesnt mind using bing every time she uses a search engine and your not that good at saving money, .21 btc in the future could be 21k usd who knows.

OK so it's similar to Swagbucks which pays to search online but the amount you earn on Swagbucks is very less. Tango Cards are similar to gift cards like Amazon and Starbucks?

for most people it's not really worth the time and effort. but there are plenty of people who don't mind to scoop up small amounts. same as faucets. also not really worth it, but still a lot people keep farming them.

15 credits a day? Swagbucks used to give upto 40 credits for searching and sometimes double. When I had many referrals, I used to earn the same amount they earned by searching. Bing is certainly not worth then  :-\

Not unexpected, it works just like a faucet.  People start using a service they don't want to for a few cents and think that they are making good returns.
Money for little, but very little money.

I will stick with google I think, it just works.

I haven't tried Tango Cards myself yet.

So far I've earned several Xbox gift cards, Skype minutes etc.

Do I miss something? Or didn't you earned these gift cards and Skype minutes with using Bing as your search provider? I did reconize an referal-URL though ;), however, I don't mind to use it. Unfortunately I also see the message that this reward option is not available in my country..

Is there an idea about how much you will actual earn with using Bing instead of Google? I think we all use Google quite often - and even more then we do realize. If we can earn some extra presents with using Bing instead, I might swap too. (although I have to find a proxy-way or something then).

If you read the thread you'll see I calculated his. 14 cents a day. Anyone who thinks that is worth it needs a reality check.

Well some money is better then no money, maybe for your is not worth the time using bing just your use an other search engine that doesn't offer you a dime on your usage they are making money of their users so might as well get some money for it.

How much satoshi would each search be worth? Can't be that much, else bots would rule the landscape..

it is better to go with faucets, or with system like 2captcha, they pay you to solve captcha, i think you might earn much more than using their crap browser

if they want to do this seriously, they should offer 10k satoshi hour for using their browser

Too bad bing has been very selectively on who they will want to pay for using their search engine. It really doesn't matter that much because bing is not the only channel you can actually use to earn bitcoin. Participating in this forum is also another way to earn and get paid in bitcoin for the things you are already been doing. So It's the same concept.

Even when using Proxy or VPN sometimes you get detected because this useless bing reward is only available on the USA , even if you manage to get it working you will eventually get to the step where you buy the TangoCard you are speaking about or any other items , you will be requested to call them to get your items you bought .
not sure if they asked me to when they detected that I used VPN/Proxies or they asked every single user  ???

It sounds like a pretty neat deal to pay bitcoin enthusiasts for using their browser service. It wouldn't be such a good long term idea as people will start leaving as the points decrease due to excessive payouts. Very few people stay onto a service they joined just to gain some third object, rather than to use its services.

Well, I got the Tango card successfully. Went to the website, redeemed it no problem. Apparently you can't redeem it for bitcoin.   >:(
As you can see, Bitcoin is listed on the rewards catalog here, (https://www.tangocard.com/the-rewards-catalog/ (https://www.tangocard.com/the-rewards-catalog/))

But when you redeem the code to your account, it seems to disappear.   :P

I looked, it's just not there to redeem as bitcoin. I think there's been a misunderstanding between rewards and shopping? I have no clue, but what a bummer.  :-\

You can, if you want, buy these giftcards and sell them here for Bitcoin. Like for example Amazon giftcards. Worth $5, I think you can sell them for about $4.50 in Bitcoin if that is what you want ;).

Vpns or proxy won't work, Bing rewards has been there for long time probably it has been exploited earlier so i think they've upgraded their detection system.

Not available in my country yet. Also, reading from the feedback for this new feature of Bing, it seems that it is not worth it to spend a ton of your time searching for anything you can think of by using a search engine that is way too slow and sometimes fails to return you the results you are expecting.

I've used Bing Rewards many times and it's extremely hard to build and keep up points. Considering I hated Bing as well, I would just randomly search terms to gain more points. In a months time, I earned around 5 "ish" dollars in which I used the search engine and completed bonus offers. I'd rather put time into a pay-per-post sig campaign.

Unlinke Bing, Google is popular as it is; w/o the rewards, so giving such an option is not needed to them.

This just proves that it's useless to try to earn from it, unless you use a bot so make the searches instead of you.
For 0,16 USD per day, it makes them look like a low paying faucet.  ::)

cheers

I'm still like 50% on a way to get Tango Card, so I will not have a chance to try it myself soon.

Still I'm really puzzled by what kenw2 reported. Why would you show Bitcoin as reward option and once the user is ready to redeem you would remove Bitcoin option? Maybe they have a bug in their system? Or maybe they didn't properly launched Bitcoin rewards yet? I still have a hope that by the time I collect enough points to get my first TangoCard they would resolve the issues they have and I would be able to properly receive Bitcoin as a reward.

Until now could you tel me does it worth using bing for searching and earn btc.

I usually don't mind either one... Bing or Google.. and probably use them 50/50.

However, having this only available in the US is Bing pissing on its users around the world.

I'll try to stay clear of Bing because of this. Would be cool to see them get burnt because of this disrespect for their international users.

I don't think they would care about a few people stop using them because of this ("disrespect for their international users"). I'm sure they made some calculations and educated decisions about who to include in loyalty programs / rewarding programs and who not.

I don't use Bing often. I only use it when I directly search something through the browser URL field; otherwise I'll visit Google first to look something up.

Yes, apparently they don't care.

Americans make up about 5% of people on earth. Also in purchasing power Americans are nowhere near 80% or anything like that to make such a haphazard decision. However, it is no surprise that some American companies cannot understand that the world is far bigger than the US.

It says a lot about the mindset of Microsoft/Bing. I predict hard times ahead with such an antiquated mindset.

I'm not sure whether it is the mindset that they should be afraid of. I think it's hard to survive when you've to compete against a company like Google. Owning that much money, they don't really care in loosing some money in risky investments or developments. They've lots of money to develop things and to "try out" ways to make even more money.

Sure, also Microsoft owns much money, but I think that's spread in more divisions and not only based on online services.

You must spend a decent amount of time doing searches daily right? Do you do more than just searches?
About how much time would you estimate you spend grinding towards a meager $5

I've never recorded how much searches I do, but I think I Google quite a lot each day. If this is the case for philipma1957, it's quite nice to receive such giftcards although $5 isn't much. But, in the end, you did not have to do anything extra for it. (Atleast, if you're not going to search more because of the income).

There are some calculations in this topic, which point out that you actually have to search a lot for this. There's no point in searching extra much in order to receive those $5.. Spending way less time on a regular job is way faster then. But as soon as it's just an extra without any extra efforts, why not? ;).

Not sure if this was made clear at some point in the thread, but I just got an e-mail from Tango to confirm:

A Tango Card CANNOT be redeemed for bitcoin at this time. So no, I don't think one can easily convert Bing searches into bitcoin.

Tango is a service targeted at retailers ... so they want to promote shopping by the sheep. As expected ...

*Yeah, I posted that and THEN reviewed the whole thread. I guess everyone figured out, Bing Rewards are not easily converted to bitcoin yet. Still, you get the sense it is right around the corner. The application just makes too much sense.

I found out I have 20 rewards points already  :)

A Tango Card CANNOT be redeemed for bitcoin at this time. So no, I don't think one can easily convert Bing searches into bitcoin.

...

Bing Rewards are not easily converted to bitcoin yet.

Indeed, that is already mentioned in this topic. However, you still can convert your Bing Rewards indirectly for Bitcoin. I gave the example of the Amazon gift card earlier. You can get a Amazon Gift Card ($5) for your Bing Rewards point and then sell it for example here on this forum for BTC. Yes, you will loose some of your value as you will receive about $4.25 for it (in Bitcoin) I guess, but this means there is an indirect way to convert to Bitcoin if that is what you like.

I saw a post that the bitcoin was disappeared but dont know what happened after that post, but bing is trying to bring new users to their search engine

it looks like they are bribing people to use their search engine. i don't know how it is going to be effective since majority of people are using google for searching.

Right after I spent all my points on that tango card too, of course.
Oh well, I put one entry in, there's still a chance!  :D
