I'd like to hear some opinions about bitcoin here, and please go into as much detail as you can.

Where is bitcoin going?

What will it become?

The dominant currency in the world. The blockchain will be the backbone, but the userinterface will look much much different from now. Private people and firms will be able to transfer and store wealth safely and easily in bitcoin. The transfer part is already there, now we need the store part to work...

Further that bitcoin, the blockchain will be applied to a range of other contexts.

My dream is that bitcoin is used in many shops that I usually use and that it is as known as everybody knows it in the world

In my mind bitcoin will be the future money, global accepted money! Nearly every merchaints are accepting bitcoin payment. The bitcoin applications are covering every aspects of our life. Users wouldn't worry about the security, the double spending, scams etc.

I have hopes that BTC will empower individuals to control their financial futures outside of fiat currency and the banking cartels.  I like a world were BTC holdings can better transactions, international dealings, and even long term holdings (after volatility isn't a factor of course).

My dream is that one day (probably long after I'm gone), we live in a peaceful society
with only small local governments that have to earn their money in the free market
like everyone else.

my dream for bitcoin is that it is accepted world wide in any shop, "offline" and online. that would be amazing, being able to spend my coins everywhere.

That it will replace fiat money as the standard currency and payment method.

Multiple currencies and payment systems may still exist simultaneously (both cryptocurrencies and fiat money) but I hope that Bitcoin will be the most important one.

Hmm, i would more mainstream application. Like more openly accepted by vendors online. That China stop having a monopoly on it and that mining it with cheap electricity remain very profitable.

I wish BTC could remain profitable for small home miners.

My observation is that it's becoming less and less community driven, and that alarms me. Thank god for this forum, because many other popular venues are basically just exercises in cheerleading, with critical discussion frowned upon.

I think it still has a chance, but let's not forget it has over 1000 competitors.

Bitcoins are one of the most plasent thing happend to me and i am really loving it and i can bet others are taking more benefit from bitcoins then me i want it to be stable at 1000 USD so small value like 0.0001 BTC have some value.

If Bitcoin achieves critical mass adoption, then it will be the answer to end world poverty, and we can finally be allowed to work for ourselves, rather than having to request authorities for permission.

Central, regulatory institutions only help to restrict, control and stop you from working when you can work. It prevents first starters from taking the first step to gain work experience. Impoverished circumstances will lead most first starters to take any ungainful experience that actually lead nowhere in life. The end result of systems that serve the banking system is always bail outs for the banks.

This is the thing everyone is discussing, but nobody really knows. The current trend, is for many big organizations to develop their own Blockchain type technologies and some are even developing Alt coins to

address the shortcomings {as they perceive it} of Bitcoin. They want something they can manipulate at will, like they are doing with fiat now, and also something centralized and geared towards KYC/AML

regulations.

The consumers will be given a choice to use Bitcoin or this new ripp off coin, and they will use their version of the Blockchain in the background, without the consumers knowing it.

Bitcoin still have the edge, with a established merchant network and loyal user base, but the banks and the financial sector have a strong userbase too, so they could just slip it past them as a new service

and they would gain the advantage.

It is our task to identify these services and too explain the differences between Bitcoin and RippoffCoin to the general public. If we fail this, Bitcoin will fail too.  >:( 

Could you explain how bitcoin could possibly end world poverty?

Its not like its going to create water, food and education out of tin air.

Its not going to make earth able to support more population.

No need to dream cause it will become reality. This LTC block halving s an excellent example what s gonna happen to BTC next summer. The price ll go up 3x-5x and it ll stay there.
So get as many as you can while you can.

my biggest dream which i am sure that i am sharing it with a lot of other bitcoin users, is that bitcoin price goes up. and i don't mean a surge or pump but a steady growth even if it is little by little and also no price crashing like a big dive in price.

For the most I think it will be a kind of hobbies. People will know better and better it and would like to have some. Then if the value will increase continuously it will be more interesting to save those and to hope to be rich. maybe will be spent some of those but the most will be saved for the bad days or for the big investments.

I only hope there will be many shops that accept bitcoin in my city, so finally I know how to spend my bitcoin beside gambling, and dont need to exchange my bitcoin for fiat like I do usually to buy any stuff for me.

My dream for bitcoin is that this coin to be a strong currency and a real alternative to the fiat money. Maybe the money of the money. The money which will determine the real value of all the other fiat national money. Since is not inflationary bitcoin can do this duty excellently. If any fiat money can be printed depending the desires of the central banks that mean that that money can lost value. This loss can be measured with the value that money have with bitcoin. In this can be compared the good fiat money with the worst one and the people will learn which of those can save or use and which not.

who says that Bitcoin has a 1000 competitors.
I don't think that those 1000 altcoins are the competitors of Bitcoin.
They all are shit coins and never be able to come near Bitcoin.

My dream for bitcoin is to became accepted in every establishments worldwide as a payment, just like a real money.

My hope which I think is fairly realistic, is that approx 25% of the world begins using it regularly. That twenty five percent will raise the value of Bitcoin and be just on the edge of mass adoption, making it still a possibility.

I don't wish for there to only be digital cash though, as I think that's a mistake.

A goverments power is powered by how much money they can spend on stuff. A goverment in a country that do it good on the international market will have more money to spend. The tinfoil people on the forum who thinks a goverment just print money when they want it are idiots and have it all wrong.

Well, it will require a lot of factors to come together to end world poverty, but the main problem with the global debt economy is that it favours a redistribution of wealth towards the banking system - The house always wins in the world casino, as it is manipulated by unelected officials with an agenda to uphold the status quo. There is enough wealth to go around in the world, but this is being restricted and siphoned by geopolitics and pirates. Exclusion from participation in walled gardens is what is known as a tragedy of the commons.

Tight controls always stifle growth and innovation. e.g. many industries are basically dead in Australia due to politics that shift emphasis towards housing and unproductive governmental bureaucratic bean counting.

Bitcoin, or alternative currencies, are the means to sidestep the stranglehold of fiat currencies that are tied to the banking system. Alternative currencies help to get people working and providing and sheltering for each other. Community becomes self-sustaining when everyone participates and cooperates, instead of fighting or scamming each other.

The objective of computing science is efficiency through streamlining processes and eliminating redundancy - If successful, society needs to eliminate all of the useless unproductive “jobs” that the government create for the sake of upholding the ideology that there should be “jobs”. Alternative vision is to look outside the box and see that the concept of “job” is simply a prison, an enslavement, a restrictive contract-construct that does not have to be.

My dream would be unrealistic so I'll rephrase my answer to what I think bitcoin can become -

I think bitcoin has the potential to become a store of value, with only 21 million coins to ever be mined holding a stash of bitcoin could make one wealthy.

I believe bitcoin can overtake PayPal & especially Western Union as a way of transferring money around the world with cheap fees. I firmly believe bitcoin could shut Western Union down. I believe banks may use bitcoin & the blockchain to wire money to other banks due to the security & speed involved.

I believe a high % of shops/companies/organisations will accept bitcoin as a way of payment within 10-15 years. My realistic hope is that in 10-15 years 1 bitcoin will be worth 10,000 USD.

I had a dream, and then I woke up, and the reality was Satoshi Nakamoto invented Bitcoin. I have been searching for a long time, for a alternative form of payment for the internet. Bitcoin has made this dream come true in a big way!
My next dream will be for the many people out there, who have had bad experiences with the traditional payment methods to hear about this wonderful technology.

Most of us living in the developed world, cannot grasp the concept of having no bank account. We accept this as the norm. We also earn a above average global wage and cannot see what a huge difference lower fee's and micro payments can bring to the people who do not have that.

i want bitcoin to be the world global currency that will lead us to demolish fiat and improve the transaction cost and time, especially against conversion rate which is very high and not suitable for someone that travel a lot and i want bitcoin to be seen as the most secure form of payment without the need of a central autorithy

also i want bitcoin to be big enough to help poor people all around the world, so 1 btc should have 1M to 100M in price, the general consensus is to reach 1 satoshi = $1
and last but not last, that it's accepted everywhere for any kind of shopping you can ever think about

There is a lot of idiotic ideas of bitcoin changing everything but this one is plausible.

Western Union has no trust outside US and i would never ever send anything trough them. Giving money to random people in the street asking them to drop it of where i need it seems safer.

Paypal, neteller and similar are good at moving and storing but have high fees. Bitcoin can do the same without any problem.

Forget about bitcoin being an all changing currency and look at what bitcoin has to offer. With the right tools you could make the safest system for storing and moving large amounts of funds.

No, you want the rate to be low so you can use your salary you get on your real job to buy bitcoin and then the rate get high and stable. Then you dont need the real job anymore....

My dream is that bitcoin will become globally accepted currency and means of payment.

Only currency in the world. Everything from local transactions to global business everything will be based on BTC. If any country wanted to have their own currency they will base it one Bitcoin.

And then BTC will be under control of one global organization like UN.  ;D  That will be the ultimate globalization. 

My dream for Bitcoin is that it grows to the point that it becomes a good, solid currency which will be viable option for people all over the world, so to say, they will decide will they use it or not.

Make an organization be able to control bitcoin can ruin bitcoin itself, which that organization can be approached by governments and take advantage with it.

Yeah that is the great vision and my dream is that even a small grocery shop guy should accept payment in bitcoins then only the purpose would be served and wherever we go or whatever we purchase there should be a notice that "Payment is accepted only in bitcoins"

My dream for bitcoin is that it gets so widespread that it errupts with services and apps in such a way that it creates a whole new world where people
create new jobs and opportunities. Ofcourse i would also like to see the price in 5 figure numbers one day, i believe it will deserve it once the legal and
security issues are resolved. And for the end; i want to go to any store and be able to buy anything i want using only bitcoin, without large conversion or service fee.
I believe that in the next few years most of the things i stated will be delivered, and i'm optimistic about it's future.

Very true, we are hoping that day should come soon when everything is available in exchange of bitcoins, no fiat, no credit cards, only bitcoins and we are done, and being positive we believe that day would surely come in the near future where we can buy almost anything using bitcoins.

In the future every single electronic transaction will run under the blockchain. People will be using Bitcoin even if they aren't aware they are using Bitcoin. Fiat currencies at a national level may not disappear but the Bitcoin market will be huge. A marketcap on the trillion dollars by having surpased Paypal, WU, Visa and Mastercard.

Bitcoin is already reality, dream is completed.

My dream is that I am early adopter of a technology that will be very big.

For the public to accept it. When it gets to that point, Bitcoin would thrive. The price would increase accordingly. This would force payment processors like PayPal, WU, ect. to adjust their system as well to compete with it. It would probably equate to things like less fees and less fraud with better developed security protocols.

We hope it happens soon, Bitcoin can never replace any major currency, but yes the users of bitcoins will increase in coming years, it will give a major competition to fiat, but fiat is not gonna disappear as the users of fiat are more as compared to bitcoins.

If Bitcoin survives I think it could serve low income citizens as a long term financial instrument to avoid the disproportional affects of inflation on long term savings.
Low income citizens are disproportionately affected by the high inflation rates and low interest rates of standard savings methods found around the world.
A financial instrument like bitcoin would allow low income workers and the working poor to more effectively save money over long term periods.
Low income citizens and the working poor are affected by large debts that can wipe out a persons savings without any protections.
Bitcoin may not prevent a man who has suffered a finical blow such as a flood, fire, incarceration or medical condition, from losing their job, house, car etc. but It would prevent the lose of their savings.
If their willing to take on the responsibility and risk of protecting their own money, Bitcoin is a option that should be considered, It would allow them to start over in the event of a catastrophic financial event as mentioned above.

However I highly doubt the larger populace could ever, even under extreme circumstances, understands the concepts and ideas that created Bitcoin or its benefits.
It will remain largely a option of last resort for businesses and individuals who have been pushed out of the financial system do to criminal or legal reasons such as citizenship, prohibition of goods, copyright etc.

If everyone stopped paying taxes the world would fall apart, what about the roads? public services? social welfare? who will look after the elderly and those who cannot fend for themselves?

I believe that bitcoin will become a major world currency alternative in the future.
We will have bitcoin ATM all over the world, and bitcoin will be accepted in every store, a cafe, to pay bills etc.
Bitcoin value will be at least 10 times higher and we will have a big profit from it.
Many will be able to leave their regular jobs and live by bitcoin.

nothing wrong with dreaming as long as people set themself realistic goals. world wide acceptance is also what i aim for. but it will cost a lot time and there will be plenty of people who're trying to get bitcoin down by spreading fud.

I think bitcoin has been a standard in digital currency.

If internet has been spread to every part of this world, surely thats dream will be come true.

We have known credit card and debt card before Satoshi introduced bitcoin for us :)

First of all I would be happy if it becomes the number one payment system fot the internet and creates a complete new industry.
Second I hope it takes a big piece of the foreign remittances market. This is market is so huge.
Then I hope some ETfs take off and Nasdaqs will use it( not just resting and privat markets).
The fiat money will still be there and I doubt the Bitcoin reach the status of a world reserve currency.

My dream is that I would like to be paid in Bitcoin. Every morning on Friday I could open up my wallet and see that I was paid accordingly in btc.

I don't think btc will ever take over a global currency and it doesn't have to, but I would like to be seen as an acceptable currency globally.

I think it would be great if you walked into a store and there would be a list of currencies the store accepts, including dollars, btc, ltc, and even some other cyrptocurrencies. It's not all about one dominating the other, but acceptances and allowing people do WHAT they want with the money they worked hard for an earned.

It already is ,you can buy most of the things with bitcoins which you can with fiat's.But its a digital currency so its only online.

It will be but what is the need and sense in that ? you are no more anonymous and neither your coins will be safe that way.

I believe that in  a few years you will be able to get your salary in Bitcoin if you want.Of course not for the normal jobs out there but if you work for a Bitcoin company which might make the breakthrough in the mainstream I could imagine this being a possibility.
The more Bitcoin is used and knows, the higher the chance this to happen when you work as I said in the right industry.

You're right, it is accepted globally, I guess what I meant to say was that I want to be more accepted through vendors and not just the hand full that do accept it.

Maybe it doesn't make sense but I would like it non the less, because I would be able to use my money the way I want to and not walk into a store that says "We only accept (.....).

In my opinion there is no way to know with complete certainty what will  occur with bitcoin in the future, because no one can predict what will occur with the current economic system although it is very usual to find only pessimistic scenarios out there. Besides we need to keep in mind that technology is advancing greatly and it will be always possible to find a way to overcome the current advantages of bitcoin.

So, of course, that I would bitcoin millionaire / I could earn a living bitcoin. :-X

You should back to 2009 or 2010 and buy bitcoin as much as you can so probably now you have no dreams about bitcoin  ;D .
bitcoin could used everywhere like fiat money now on progress I think , for example in Brazil and Netherlands there a lot of stores / merchants already used bitcoin as payment.

This will take a very long time to see this happen. Bitcoin just won't become our main currency, ever.
I just don't see every single country, or even just 1 country adapting to bitcoin and walking out on their own currency.

My dream for bitcoin is that it grows to a point where it will be accepted as an official currency that runs across all the countries in the world  Bitcoins is one of the best idea especially during this digital era however it has faced lots of resistance to the persons who feel it is threat. I also wish that the coins be of clean motive and never be associated with the criminal activities because they are really working ti the negativity of the bitcoin spread.

There are few possibilities so that your dream come true and gets fulfilled. The possibles are your dream should not exceed 1000$. This can be achieved within few years. I don't think that bitcoin gets centralized. If bitcoin gets centralized bitcoin will surely loss its unique value.

I wish the merchants in my country and even the regular people will begin to use bitcoin. I've seen few of the ecommerce site accepting btc but I don't see anything that i would buy to those sites.
We can now use btc to pay bills but this is thru the third party though. it would be best if we can do it without them.

Decentralization makes bitcoin more attractive and that is the reason people prefer to use bitcoins, and yes if it get centralized then it will simply disappear from the market, and will be replaced by any other crypto, bitcoin will become a strong currency in the future but sad to say not the primary currency.

Problem here lies in control by government -shadow government, they won't let control over currency to somebody else especially not to people!

I wish the following turns true for bitcoins:

1. Legally adopted by the Government.
2. Reward schemes for users paying via bitcoins online/offline.
3. Two types of bitcoins: Stable, Volatile
4. Companies paying in bitcoins and offering a tax free scheme for the same.
5. Physical bitcoins should be available as well.

The moment a western government will adopt bitcoin, I am sure the price will skyrocket.
It will give a boost for both investors and consumers, simple  because it's more then support for itcoin.

Several country in Europe and south america like Netherland and Argentina already legally adopted and it's good thing for bitcoin development.

It's itself a new hope for users who don't want their money to be tracked and they can have savings for their future. I too have a lot of hopes from bitcoins and want it to be legally adopted by a country and not be taxed as well.

I have many dreams about bitcoins but my major dream is to have an offline wallet or bank that can store my bitcoins safely and offer me 5-10% interest per year for the same. I guess it would be more convenient if we get bitcoin system and banking system get merged...

That's true, either it will be on top or else it will simply disappear, but looking at the present adaption level I don't think bitcoin is going anywhere, and it has lots of things to offer us in future, it will be widely used and widely accepted in future.

bitcoin might be use all over the world and anywhere , any purchase that we need to pay with fiat is also payable with bitcoin in local stores, and price might not go high, but could be stable..  :)
