Well,it depends on your requirements. If you just have some bucks lying around and want to utilize them, buying a whole coin is a good option provided you get them at cheap rates. You could also trade them separately with varying market rates  and hope to get some profit. Its a valuable asset .

Don't force yourself to buy a whole bitcoin if you don't have enough cash. Buy 0.5 btc or any amount you can spare and buy more when you have more money. If you want an address look good with nothing but 1.0 btc in it, you can send 1 btc to a new address when you have more than 1 btc.

if the sub $450 is something that you can put aside and forget about for a year, go ahead.
but if its something ur dreaming of doubling in 6 months because you really really need $450+ within 6 months.. be cautious.

dont invest anything that will make you cry if it drops 10%, only invest something that you wont care about for atleast a year..

I would stagger it out and buy .20 at 5 different levels but then again I always gamble for a cheaper price lol.

The only problem is like when I bought .20 at 410 I had it set to buy .2 at 390 but it went back up to 435 and
so I only got .2  >:(

I have savings and 450 bucks isn't too much to forget about I'm prepared to take the risk.

I'm thinking it might be a good investment in say 5 - 10 years ?

Fuck it, do it  ;)

I totally agree with him. You don't use up all of your money to do that. If you need urged something to cash you still have any money

Anytime you buy bitcoin could be the wrong time, Im hesitant to buy at the moment because the price is higher than opportunity i had earlier in the year but earlier in the year i was also hesitant because price was fluctuating and looked like it might have gone down. Had i know price was going to go up to what it did today then i would have put every penny in earlier in the year. Maybe i should even do that now,its hard to say.

It really depends on several factors. One thing I can say is that if you have those dollars that will enable you buy a single coin in full then you can go a head to do so. I am sure there are very many people who are willing to get more coins but the only thing that usually hold them back is the financial freedom they have. You also need to plan well on what you want to achieve in bitcoin trading. It will help you a lot.

Good choice you made! It feels good to hold an entire bitcoin somehow.

Even if the price may fluctuate on the short term, I think you will have a nice gain percentage in the long run.

If 4xx$ is not that much for you and that you are ready to let it stay in your wallet (not on an exchange !), yes, that could be the best investment you could do in your whole life. In a few years your investment could be double, tripled or even quadrupled ! You can still buy a fraction of a Bitcoin if you don't want to put too much money just now, but the earlier you buy it (so the cheaper), the better it is.

Thankyou all for your advice, I can't believe how nice the community is and that you all mostly agree that its a good investment.

Im going to keep an eye on the price and maybe sometime in 2016 before the halving if the price happens to go down then i will consider buying more.

Thanks once again

If you have enough money to buy 1 bitcoin and you are happy to do so they why not, if you need to go without anything in order to buy 1 then it probably isn't a good idea, just buy a smaller part of bitcoin maybe half or a quarter, should never leave yourself without.

You should know this yourself!
Are you a risk taker? Is the money you would invest to buy a whole Bitcoin affordable for you?
How long have you planned to hold this Bitcoin?
You can ask for as many opinions as you want and you will get always different answers.
In the end you are the one who has to make the decision!

I dont think it matters that you buy a whole coin.  Some people new to bitcoin have this facination with whole coins.  Just buy as much bitcoin as you can afford.  about 2 years ago i told my brother about bitcoin and he wanted to buy, so i advised him to get in slowly.  Purchasing a small amount every week or month, but he couldnt get his head around buying 0.5 or 0.25 bitcoin, which in my opinion cost him because he bought in at £600 per coin and it has yet to get back to that valuation (i do believe that some day it will be worth far more and ultimatly he will be in profit)  if he had spread his purchase out over a few months it would have saved him some money.

Either way its up to you, good luck

PS:  if you are new to bitcoin research bitcoin security first and what wallet you wish to use to secure it, my opionion would be a paper wallet backed up in atleast 2 places if its long term storage or something like breadwallet for iphone if your looking to speand it.  heres a great link:  https://youtu.be/I1uefzJJ6nM

If you have money for it - go for it and don't hesitate. I will tell you an example, a story of a guy who bought 2 Papa Jones pizzas for 10.000 bitcoin, for years later these 10.000 coins were worth over $5 millions.
I would risk buying 1 bitcoin if I were you. Situation in the future could be the same.

When considering upcoming events and increasing popularity of bitcoin, everyday must be a good day to buy bitcoin. If you find some reason not to buy, then you will regret later for not buying.
After you bought your bitcoin the price goes down you can buy again to get a better average buying price.

I think that, as an investment, is a good idea to buy a full Bitcoin and keep it for the future (in case you can afford it that is). It is likely that its price raises, and that it becomes more usable. At the very worst, (Bitcoin bombs and ends being a failure) you will have it as a souvenir.

You can try and earn it too. That's the path I chosed. But if I could not earn it by any means, it is likely that I bought some.

My man, no one on this forum can predict what the price of btc is going to be in a week, much less 5-10 years.  So it could be a good investment, or you could be out your entire $450.  If you can afford it and you can buy a whole bitcoin at market rate, I say do it.  But my opinion is worth what you paid for it, so keep that in mind.

If you are going to buy your first Bitcoin, May I recommend that you find someone who has a wallet somewhere that gives them a referral bonus for you buying your first Bitcoin!!  You can offer to do this for them if they give you 1.2 of the reward they will get.  This will allow you to get more for your money and it will also allow you to get in a a good price, for so many are calling for a major increase!

I would like to have a go at day trading, I noticed coinbase  have their own trading platform : https://exchange.coinbase.com

It would be nice to have a go at it, I'm not going to spend my 1 BTC now thats being kept, but maybe i could buy a smaller amount of bitcoin to trade with, but it looks very confusing !

Welcome to bitcoin! If bitcoin trading interests you read all you can and practice on paper for a few months to prove to yourself that you have the aptitude (and temperament) for trading. It is not for everyone but might be for you.

Coinbase is as safe an any online wallet for your bitcoin. Take some time to learn and understand hardware and paper wallets before you consider moving your bitcoin from the safety of Coinbase.

Even though the price is increasing slightly nowadays i expect in the next few weeks that the bitcoin price increase so why not buying some if we can afford it.

If you have $450 and do not care if you lose it all, then you should buy 1 bitcoin. Bitcoin has good future.
As OP says he doesn't have plan in selling it for a year. It means he will holds it and wait for price increased. How he will lose that bucks? maybe you should say, if you dont care in spending $450 then bought 1 whole btc.

it will be bit risky if he just want trade Bitcoin with USD because in short term bitcoin could go down then the OP gets panicked and sells for lowwer price

If you have the money to buy a whole Bitcoin, then yeah, definitely buy your first Bitcoin. If you don't have enough money, then just buy small parts of Bitcoin. I think right now, is a really good time to buy Bitcoin as the price is just beginning to rise. You will make the most amount of profit if you buy Bitcoin now. If I were you, I would buy some Bitcoins. You could also earn Bitcoin through signature campaigns and faucets. That is only if you have absolutely no money to spenf on Bitcoin, or just want to make some extra money.

What if bitcoin is up to $600 in a few months? Imo theres no good time to buy bitcoin because it varies so much, Just buy bit by bit to keep your average hopefully low.

no he should buy when the price look stable, as it is right now, because this is usually an indicator that the bottom is there

I did just a while ago. What did you gather from it about the state of bitcoin currently.
The thing is with movies (documentaries to some) like this the facts are changing so constantly that the things they point out are not relevant to us a week/a month after they are published.

I don't know if this is a good time to buy though.
It all comes down to personal preference, if you think it is a good time to buy and the value is going to keep increasing, then you should think about it, and probably end up buying whatever you feel is appropriate. If you think the value is going to decrease, then don't buy and just wait.

Right now we are on the verge of blocks halving, and there is the potential for large amounts of growth in the Bitcoin economy.

But it all comes down to if you want to buy or not, exactly like the stock market.

If Bitcoin gets outlawed where you live, then you will have a problem to sell your coins. If can't trip abroad, then you'll have a problem and your Bitcoins will technically be worth 0

People trade bitcoin for paypal or whatever all the time. Here, in exchanges, etc. There is the risk of charge backs. But his bitcoins would never be worth nothing. The only way for that to happen is if the price drops to 0. Like if a vulnerability is found. Or a better currency is created and everyone abandons bitcoin.

If you want to earn money go buy bitcoin then trade it, you can activly buy and sell bitcoin on bitcoin exchange or exchanging crypto but I think its most risky than exchanging bitcoin to fiat, if you want to buy bitcoin for purchased some virtual things, as for me buy bitcoin for long term investment and as an payment processor, just saying

you can buy, abroad with your coins, so no, they still be worth what they are worth, at that point i would only use them directly on something like open bazar or purse.io

actually it's kinda of better if you can not dump it anymore, less pressure on the market, and more encouragement on using bitcoin like a currency

Even if the price goes down, we can wait again for the price rise as we know that bitcoin keeps on fluctuating, and it would go higher in next few months, so you can sell when it is giving you some profits, and again wait for the price fall so that you can buy some more bitcoins and hold it for the future.

I think the price still can rise, so it going to be a good investment
So you support the bitcoin as an investment, not as a currency? How do you believe prices will then rise bitcoin? although I also expect bitcoin continue to rise, but I do not hasty to save a lot of bitcoin for price increases.

I think you are asking to buy 1BTC right? If so then it will be your decision. Probably now is the best time to buy 1BTC because price will rise two folds after next halving begins from June or July probably.

Do not wait for price to go down to $350 because Bitcoin is now stable at $400~ and it is not going down as I am noticing everyday. Nor it will either.

I think that anyone that is interested in Bitcoin should own at least 1. It is a way bigger risk to not risk the 440 dollars that's 1 BTC worth right now, than risk them with the possibility of losing them (it's just not gonna happen, the only way is up). Anyone that reaches Sr Member here should at least have 1 by then.

Stagnant price is usually a good moment to buy bitcoin. Just look at what happened when it was stagnant for half a year around 200 usd.

If it is clearly declining, it may be wise not to buy yet if you want to try and catch the bottom. Otherwise, just go for it. It is very unlikely you will get the lowest possible price anyway.

It will be a wise move to buy a bitcoin now and hold it for a price grow and then sell it for a profit.

If you can afford it with extra cash you are okay with losing some of then I guess it is OK, it mainly depend on whether you expect to win fast which will most likely not happen, Also a whole bitcoin is not necessary but the more the better if the price moves favorably.

To buy bitcoin as a long-term investment must avoid three things:

1. Being impatient as price would not change in some timeframe
2. Panic sell if someday BTC/USD will fall significantly
3. Selling after little price rising, to gather any revenue

It could be summarized as PATIENCE :)

You could, though of course I recommend not investing more money than you feel comfortable losing. I usually recommend that you earn Bitcoin however you can, including checking out the Marketplace here. Selling stuff that you don't want anymore usually works well.

That's working methods but need some time and patience, i think if someone have the enough budget and would like to hold the coins till the price getting high as expected soon this could working and making some profit

We just need to wait till the price will rise to a high amount so you should do it.

It depends on your financial possibilities, and on what options you have to invest your money looking for a larger profitability. In my case, I would like to increase my bitcoin worth, but this moment I am getting good incomes from my forex investments and I have decided to reinvest my current capital.  But I only will get few bitcoins, waiting for the halving to come.

yeah that is your good decision for hold bitcoin for the future, I hope its worth will take after 4-6 year $20k so if you will sell that time then you will make too profit and if you don't want to sell then it is too secure for the your life time.

The problem is you never know what is the right time to buy and when to sell. When price fall, many wait for further fall and start buying hastily at a small increase in price thinking it might be their last chance to buy at this price.Opposite happens with sellers. They wait in a hope of further price rise.My suggestion is when ever you have extra money, just buy it dont wait or ask for advice. You must learn to take a small risk

this is one of those questions that nobody can answer for you. it is totally up to you in order to decide how much you want to invest in bitcoin that amount is what you are comfortable with.

it is a good idea to be involved with bitcoin however. because in the future the chances of bitcoin being so much more expensive than now is high.

If it is required for you then you can go for it as the price is not that high. This is affordable for a common man with mid level earning. At the same time try to earn through signature campaign as well other means, if there is not much requirement at present

if OP bought he would already be making money. You are still on time to get on the winning train and make some amazing gains by the time we hit the halving. With the consensus reached to stay with Core we will be really calm and the only way is up.

Buy it now if you want, the price is pretty low (even tho last week or so , bitcoin is priced $300-ish)

Bitcoin price is rising, and buying one bitcoin now is going to be a great investment in your money.

You could always buy, as long as you can, the question there is the purpose, why would you buy bitcoin? are going to keep it for a long time? or are you going to go trading? or just want to say that you are in? if you just want to have it and spend it in anything you want to purchase, that's useless, and not worth it.you can spend your fiat then if you are just into purchasing and experience...

Nope even a half a bitcoin can take you in the long run thru right forwarding your buy and sell moves in doing trading.

I started in BTC.5 as in inital capital and right now the process is good.

Something is very clear: If someone has hear about Bitcoin and doesn't own 1 BTC, this person will reject now owning in 1 BTC in the future. It's pretty much math at this point, or some sort of physical law. I mean  just look at the alternatives that you have when cash is removed from society... there aren't. We only have Bitcoin. Metals will not allow for anything beyond real life transactions and you can't live like that in the 21th century.

in the last two days, I watched the rate is going down and now is going up again.  ???

Yes, the price is not stable recently, but i think it is a good time for buying bitcoin if someone can afford, because the price will surely go high in coming few weeks or months, and after that the buyers won't regret what they did.

Should i buy my first whole bitcoin ?

I just want opinions, would you buy a whole bitcoin ?

Yes, with the current market rate, i would
but the rate is unstable i think.
in the last two days, I watched the rate is going down and now is going up again.  ???

The bitcoin price is very volatile in short term. But it rises in long term. So if you want to hold, you can buy now.

This is a pretty old post and the price has risen since the end of last year, but the answer is the same.
Now is the time to buy before the halving starts mid year.

Yeah I think this is the perfect time to buy bitcoins as the price is relatively low and stable, so buying right now and holding till halving can be prove to be profitable.

Around this time that will be very good. The value is now very low and that is very good to make an investment.
You never know what can happen later. But you must take the risk that the value also can fall down. But then you just must hold your coin. Patience is very important.

Yes, we all know that halving is coming and we expect some higher price after halving so everyone is busy at a moment in buying bitcoins, so if you can afford to buy 1 btc then its a good decision to make.

That is true,, no need to wait for a dip, just buy now and keep it and wait til you are satisfied with the price to sell it...waiting for the price to dip below $400 might happen but it won't be there for long, so instead of watching the price everytime, just buy now and wait...

Without any further clarification you can go for it, as you will get a short term profit because of the increasing bitcoin price.
After making your first profit you decide whether to continue or quit.

firstly its all depend on your money, u have alot of money u can buy whatever u want, otherwise bitcoin is just like your asset, you can investment and also wait for halving, its very profitable for u.
Dude money only matters for each and everything. We are telling Bitcoin is way to make money we not telling that is only the way. I think you got that.

That's true there are many ways to make money, and bitcoin is one of that, and if you can afford to buy 1 btc at a moment, then you can good profits in future if the price climbs up.
It is a good idea to buy your Bitcoin now around this time. The value is now quite low so that is good to invest.
Maybe later that you will have more money and that more people will use it as well. I think it will also be more popular.

Yeah the price is comparatively low and it would be a good decision to make if you buy 1 btc as the price would be much higher in next couple of months.
Yes it is good to buy and hope that the value will rise later. But you dont know what can happen later.
But you should to take the risk for to earn some more money later. You never know what can happen.

Good one  ;D
To put it in perspective, I just spent about that on buying Christmas presents that people didn't really need or want.

Is buying a bit coin really a good fortune. And is this also a matter of investment if you will buy it yourself rather than earning them I am actually looking at some point if this is really a good fortune in the future. How this will work, is there also possible risk if ever, just a question in mind..

You can't really just assume that the price of bitcoin will just go up primarily because of the halving.  There are a lot of factors that go into the price of bitcoin... so don't put all of your eggs in one basket, if you are protecting your wealth, I would put a little into bitcoin and some into precious metals.

I would save up my money to go for a bitcoin. Honestly, if it turns to be a bad investment, then alright... you lost a decent sum of money. But, the possibility of having  your investment grow and getting the bitcoin price to rise is appealing. I guess it's similar to gambling, really. You COULD win, or you could lose what you've staked. But, the difference here is that you have to wait a while to see what happens (heh) and there's a community based around it. You can play around with bitcoin while you wait and see, by either lurking around the forums, or potentially trading. It's alright if people don't think that it's a good investment... I personally hope to prove them wrong in a couple years.

it really depends on you. but if you are getting one, you want to get it cheap. Saftey should be taken into account too. first of all, you should decide as to how you are going to store it. i would suggest to store it in a manual usb. They are like 15US dollars. it is hard to hack them and if you get the good quality ones they are hard to snap. Just make sure that you dont lose small things easily.  :) :) :)

Yeah halving is in July, still couple of months left for halving, you can make some quick profits before that as the price is rising slowly, so you can expect better price in next couple of months.

That is right. We can still make a nice profits before halving. Look at the price today. It's on roller coaster mode. Meaning we can't still see the effect of halving expectation to this day.

I think we just have to wait for the moment the price is gonna rise, just hold your bitcoins for a term of 1 year.
You will make profit in the most cases, the bitcoin is of course unpredictable but you will make money for sure because its highly unlikely that the bitcoin will collapse.

Should i buy my first whole bitcoin ?

I just want opinions, would you buy a whole bitcoin ?

Well next thing you will do is not holding ot for long. For now learn to read some daily charts to take advantage of what will the price will bring us. Rotate the coins.

It is upto you to decide whether you want to buy 1 BTC according to your needs in case If you just have some extra income in hand to use for investment purpose. Buying the full coin is no doubt good choice of investmentif you are lucky to find in affordable rates and later on can trade them when market rates go higher.

If you plan to hold your bitcoin till the next halving at least so we can advice you to buy this coin sooner
Otherwise i don't think there is a strong reason to buy it, unless you like just to support this currency

I think buying bitcoins now is profitable because we can make good profit online by holding our coins and selling then with highest price

You can hold and make profit, but at the same time if the price is low while buying you can earn a good profit.
Now it seems to be a price which is low compared to few days back. So buying seems to be best option.

When the price dropped to $300-ish then go for it.

Otherwise, i think you should earn it yourself

Maybe you should wait a little bit while the price is dropping to maximize your profits. That, or consider investing in ETH right now.

I would advise that too. For me it's obvious that the price will go back to 380 again.
When it does i will make sure to buy as many as I can to maximize my profits.

Thats the negative thinking and one of the greatest hindrance in bitcoin growth.Bitcoin was not created for trading but for trading with bitcoin

If you really are in need of getting a bitcoin do so but if you want to wait a while then you should as there are many other ways to accumulate bitcoin apart from buying it such as faucets and surveys

I think we must grab the opportunity today or the last day as the price dip low, and no need to wait longer time waiting for the price to drop,.. so yes, OP should buy now if he can afford it..  :)

You can use your signature campaign earnings to buy Bitcoins weekly and store it till the next halving at least, because it's predicted that the Bitcoin price will increase then

Many Bitcoin's users expect that Bitcoin's price will highly increase especially after the next halving happening soon this year, so i agree with you that buying Bitcoins nowadays could be really profitable

Bitcoin price is now comparatively low and bitcoin halving will occur in few months. I will definitely buy a whole bitcoin right now whether I am in your place. So, buy bitcoin and store them to get grand profits.

There wasn't a time when the crazy bitcoiner's didn't expected that the price wont increase now or will decrease for some reason. They will keep on say buy it now.

Bitcoin price is now comparatively low
Comparing to what exactly ? The mining is profitable and isn't that supposed to be a good sign or the perfect price required ?

you must be fast now to buy now some Bitcoins. I hope that you can be fast and that you have later some profit.
But first the price must rise. That is very important. And I hope that it will be more worth later.
