Yeah it started to happen yesterday bot posting for new announcments and then bots posting of cloned titles threads. Since there were huge number of spam threads hence mods have to take some precautionery steps. In result some legit threads also got deleted

The network is doing great guys. Staking works perfectly and the hashes seem to be rising from time to time!

I noticed the "staking on" icon is missing in the qt, or not loading properly (windows). And some other minor things that need a simple fix. This will be done in the next wallet update somewhere next week.

Appart from that, botnet mining is useless for normal users that might want to buy from that. It's just another X11 clone coin based on nothing, mine & profit is the key.

botnets are a factor in mining prices but the botnet operator pays the same opportunity cost as anyone else to mine a new coin, because they could just be pointing that botnet over to nicehash or whatever else. and the cost to mine this coin has not been all that high anyway so I don't know why you'd jump to the conclusion of botnets.

you're right, of course, that all altcoins exist for speculation and not real use but the dev here is putting on a good show so might as well let it play out. pretty much the only thing a coin needs to establish itself in this grim altcoin market is a long term dev who puts the time in to add any kind of value to the qt, and we're off to a nice start already with the splitblock deal that lets people split their coins more efficiently for POS.

when new coin market caps are often teetering below 5 btc you don't need to be the next bitcoin to be a success...

I tend to think any coin that drives the technology or use of crypto forward can be called a good coin regardless of the motive behind the development, so something like doge gets made as a joke but it introduces tons of people to crypto and ends up becoming something better than what was intended.

I like this coin because the dev added the splitblock thing and now any crypto can incorporate that code for free if they want. The dev never asked for ICO or tricked anyone to mine or any of that crap, and now we might see it picked up in other coins, and it was all because the Spliff Dev either wanted to improve crypto, or maybe just wanted to make a buck. Either way, the technology takes a baby step forward and we all win in that way regardless of the price. If they have other tricks up their sleeve this could be an exciting project.

For the record, the split block function was originally introduced in HYP by presstab.  I am sure the SPL dev got the code from there, which he is perfectly free to do as HYP is fully open source like most coins.

That being said, simply being able to incorporate that code into his coin proves he has more prowess when it comes to coding than 99% of new coin "devs" these days.  I also noticed a couple of things about the coin and in what he said that hint, in my mind anyway, that he at minimum has honest intentions.

I won't hold my breath but I mined a few and I will be staking and watching in hopes this coin proves to be more than yet another shitty, scammy, failed weed coin.

You could also just be having bad luck.  It is only 2 orphans after all.  I am having no problems whatsoever with orphans so I imagine it is just you.

This is correct. The original splitblock function is designed by presstab. He is a great developer for bringing such easy to use features into cryptocurrency. We simply took some of his code, and implemented it in our own source. We also implemented a few other improvements. NTP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol), and better support for openssl an miniupnpc api versions. We also tried to clean up the code as much as possible by removing unused lines of code.

Have you considered Bittrex (https://bittrex.com/)? There's a good chance they will list you, they have one of the biggest coin selections (http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/markets/info) and they also have a high volume of BTC (https://www.walletexplorer.com/). Getting put on such a busy exchange will help with exposure and getting the word out. I think CCEX is a really good idea.

Also think C-cex and Bittrex would be the better choice. Will also make a tweet for it.

Not C-Cex.  If they wanna add it, let them add it, but I wouldn't make an active effort to get added to that cesspool scam exchange.  Bittrex has never done me wrong, but they are harder to get onto.

There is nothing wrong with Yobit or even Cryptopia for now.  Price will be low but it is a good chance to pick up cheap coins and start staking them.  If our developer is genuine and this project goes anywhere, Bittrex will add eventually and you'll be happy SPL started out on a smaller exchange.  Patience.

As long as it is a relatively small but not meaningless number of coins, like the 20 SPL being given away in the current twitter promo, the benefits gained from increased exposure would outweigh the negatives of some people dumping their coins ASAP and unfairness to miners.  It is irrelevant though, because niktitan132 just did a pretty good job of illustrating why this idea is unworkable.

I've never seen those particular errors come up as false positives, fortunately as we aren't on exchange yet we have nothing but time to see what the truth is.

Don't you think its strange the first scan comes out clean, and later it comes out with 2 potential warnings from 2 almost unknown scanners? Virustotal is not 100% reliable.

The reason why we uploaded on git, is so everyone can see if we change files or not. Only thing we changed was the file name when the mac wallet got added.

People are getting on your case because strictly speaking a virus hasn't yet been found, that part of the process usually involves someone actually finding the virus files on a VM instance with the wallet installed.

I have been looking on mine and havent seen anything but I'm not an expert and I don't know every place to look. There's no need to rush to conclusions, if you are smart and running altcoin wallets in their own VM instances you really have nothing to worry about from virus devs and can be properly patient when these issues arise.

Virus+Shady devs= SCAMCOIN.

Well, I am admittedly not an expert on this stuff so I have no clue whether those are false positives or not.  All I know is I have been running the client since the coin launched and haven't had any other alt-coins or bitcoin stolen off my main PC, but I admittedly don't have much of value on here.  If this coin was just launched as an excuse to get a virus or a wallet stealer on people's PCs, I don't understand why they would include that hefty pre-mine.  To look more legitimate maybe?

Dev said the webshop was going to be up in 2-3 days.  Time will tell.

To me, this is some good evidence that SPL is clean and those were false positives.  Can't really blame jambo110 for being suspicious.  Unfortunately, if your default position around here isn't "scam until proven otherwise", you are in for a world of hurt.


Good to see the Twitter promotion picking up steam.  Is the webshop still set to open in a few days?  Best way to silence detractors is proving them wrong with active development and tangible evidence.

I had a good feeling about this one at first, but now I'm not so sure.  I'm not mining anymore but will stake for now and hope for the best.

Difficulty is crazy low on this and blocks are still 40 coins so if anyone wants to take a chance with their hashes, it is easy to accumulate a sizable stack right now.

Dev ran away to hell. This coin is dead!

  As the development of my game server is nearing the end, I would like to announce my takeover of the Spilffcoin project! Considering this currency is going to run the economy in my minecraft server, I figured "Spliffcoin" wasn't the correct name. Instead I have decided to rebrand it. I won't be releasing the name to the public until I have created a new ANN topic. In the meanwhile, I need one thing from the community so I can get that ANN thread started. Some graphics and support. I have compiled a new wallet with the new name. However, it still has the original Spliffcoin logo which has brought me to a roadblock. My photoshop skills are very basic and I know there's some very skilled/talented people out there that would have the ability to help me. For some initiative, the winner of the logo contest will receive 20,000 coins!


  For the general public, I have decided to make this announcement early for two reasons. One, there's still alot of mining to be done. Two, you may collect cheap dumps from safecex (https://safecex.com/market?q=SPL/BTC). This means a level playing field for both miners and people who don't have expensive mining hardware.


  For fellow minecrafters, my server will give you the opportunity to earn crypto in-game! The theme of my server will be a drug server. If you're unfamiliar with these servers, google "minecraft drug server" and go play on one for a bit. They're loads of fun and they're 100% economy based. Unlike other minecraft servers that accept fiat currency for donations, mine will not. Everything in-game will be accessible via the new coin! You will have the ability to withdraw and deposit coins from the server instantly!


  For graphic designers, I'm looking for an png with the dimensions of 1000x1000. Preferably, I would like it to be a simple vector but if it's not and I like it, then it really doesn't matter. As the theme of my minecraft server is drug based. The coin needs to symbolize a drug deal. Some ideas include a scale, stack of money, handshake or fist bump. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going for but that's why I'm leaving it up to you. As I stated, the winner of this contest will receive 20,000 coins. That's a pretty good amount to start staking and become a stakeholder.

Thanks for the support! With mining pools and block explorers already established, it was a shame to see this coin to go to waste. Since the dev has officially jumped off the boat I figured I might as well step in. Besides, I've had three boring minecraft servers in the past and they all lacked something unique. This is giving me the chance to make something on a whole new level. Not just a game server but a crypto currency backed by a real in-game economy. If everything goes well, both stability and value shall be restored for this coin. ;D

Recent industry speculation says that cannabiscoin, cannacoin, and spliffcoin are all going to be valued soon at the equivalent of 1/4 oz of top shelf per coin by most US dispensaries and some growers.

I am one of those growers/dispensary owners, in San Diego, CA and we're getting a lot of people on board for this.  Despite the lack of development, this coin is already fully fledged, as far as functionality goes, so there's no need for the devs to be involved at all :)
