Here are my Bitcoin price predictions:
1. BTC stable at around $400-$500 for the next few months.
2. 40-50% spike for block halving hype.
3. Retracement back down to $400-$500 level.
4. Slow rise to $700 per BTC once weak hands are out.

i see at least another 100% increase, because of the halving, or around that, 700 is a veryg ood estimate

This OP mimics so well what I think will happen, that I will only quote it. Around 400-500$ rising slowly from that, with ups and downs along the way. Sounds logical.

Realistic prediction, i think above bitcoin should be stable at around $500+ and at end of the year $700 max.

You could also just ask me :). Here are the reasons why below. Numbers match numbers above.

1. BTC will remain stable because the world is uncertain right now and BTC is a good place to store value. If it goes higher than $500, a portion of the people that buy low and sell high for a profit will definitely sell, including me. This portion is limited to people who sell BTC for USD, as selling in any other currency is probably a riskier bet (especially CNY, the second biggest after USD).
2+3. The spike is an educated guess based on how hype seems to bump up the value significantly and then BTC falls again once the hype wears off.
4. Due to the lower inflation, BTC will be able to gain value more easily.  It will be a slow rise because people will be cautious due to the rise and fall from block halving hype.

We shouldn't get beyond $600 due to the halving alone. If there are additionally developments that will directly influence the adoption and deployment then we may go higher, even beyond $1k if that is something spectacular. However, that is a lot of ifs that I mention. For now, the basic plan is we have halving event and nothing more in the store, thus the speculation plots will play that one out. I don't expect big fireworks, though.

If btc repeats its 2015 performance in 2016 (not that I expect it), then btc price would be ~$551 on Dec 31, 2016, which sounds quite reasonable if not low.
If we are to project further at the same steady clip achieved in 2015, then btc would be $11,769 in 14 years from now (2030) and $48,671 in 20 years (2036).

I think the price will make an attempt to touch the $1000 price level just before the block halving, and when it's nearly there, the price will fall back very hard. After the block halving I can see we make a move to reach a new ATH.

The only think I would like to change from your prediction would be the number 3. I would have said Retracement back down 25% of the final spike as I expect it would have a positive overall growth after the halving spike settle down so the final price would certainly be higher than the initial one.

My prediction in this year (2016) bitcoin will start a new chapter with the very significant. prices broke above $ 600, I'm pretty sure.

That is not stable to me, considering we did sideways on 430/440$ for three weeks: that was kind of stable.

I don't see it going to $700 but the price may stick to 430-460 for a long time. it hasn't move to 480 since last year.
Maybe we can see its rise during halving, probably on June-July or maybe even till the end of the year.

We will we be way beyond $700 by june-august or at least near that price when the halving approaches, $700 is too low. Of course you never know with Bitcoin, but the logical thing is a way higher price.

my predictions for this year, the price of bitcoin be $ 700, there will be a new wallet, and more and more known in the community, I hope this year to bitcoin existing ATM in every country  ;D

Bitcoin by its nature is a very volatile asset and, thus, having a +/- 10% in each direction is considered something normal. Having price at $440 level, these 10% in each direction gives you almost the entire $100 range. Not surprising, by any means.

I also think it will stay above 400 untill the halving and then rise right after. I will problably sell if it hits 1000 per bitcoin.

I see the prices will rise slowly and very slow movement. hoping to reach $500 at the end of January.

We are already between 430-450$ range and to be honest i don't see them going under this anymore.Halving this time is different than last one and will gear up the price we should expect over 500 $ price which will be fair for 1 Bitcoin after halving and in year 2016 by the end of this we can see at about 1000 $ easily as this is a year of Bitcoin.

Being honest $5k is too far to be reached this year, the maximum i think would be somewhere at $600 - $700

The market usually prices in these kinds of events. Maybe going from $200 to $400 was the doubling getting priced in.

Sounds pretty accurate to me, except for one thing. And that's the prices/values that you've mentioned. I think the value of bitcoin, before halving will reach at least $1000. The more blocks are being mined, the more worth bitcoin will be.

a very good year in my opinion for bitcoin to re-start a new era as in 2010. there is a very big chance reinforcement after halving the block.

Till the part of the year, a stable value cannot be reached. Values will be dropping and rising, after that we can have constant rise which may reach near the border of 1000$ by the year end. The constant value rise can be observed after six months.

Very good and even reasonable predictions. Can be liked by everyone who don't like and make castle in the air. My problem is only one: Where are based? From what analyse were jumped out? What kind of data are used to give such amounts? If given only because like to the OP (and even me too) have any kind of importance to be considering as reachable. I can do hundred of those and create hundred threads - and for sure one of those may be very near the true if it would be so many - but this yet doesn't mean that me, who have gave these data which were verified as true, am a good predictor. I wonder when it would be possible to have the possibility to have some data which can help to make based predictions about the bitcoin price...  ???  I'm afraid never.

I think the real high price will be reached somewhere at the end of 2016, but we might see a short rise before the block halving to a new high since 2015/2016. We just need to break through $504 for that to happen. Then we have a new high.

There has been no website as well that is based on facts but they just predict that the price of bitcoins may rise or decrease taking into account the china market or any news related to bitcoins.
Some say that when bitcoin was declared to not be banned, the price increased but that was also not a factual reason.

I believe that it's not possible to predict the prices but I just hope that bitcoins do keep growing and get popular as time passes by and I feel the first point might be a possible in the coming months.

With the month almost gone i see not of the expectations have been met.
To me that is very sad, since i really hoped for a 500 price to be achieved.

no worries, the good months will come this year. this month has been good for people who were waiting to buy at sub $400 prices. we just need to wait till the chinese pumpers will start doing their work. that's when things start to get really interesting. have some patience.

I think with a new wallet he means that a fork might pop up this year. I think this too and when the block size is updated to 2 MB it will give the price a significant boost. I am happy if we touch the $600 level and stay above it. Higher is always better but we must stay realistic.

Well I hope you are right. Seeing the sell pressure for a week now, I am not sure the whales have enough money to keep this going on.
Since most of the whales are either mining companies or backed by them, they sure get a lot less income since the difficulty went so high.

Accordingly it would go with realistic effect compared to fictive predictions like 1000$ and so on. It will most probably reach 600$ range as suggested with fluctuations in the value for long term.

Yes halving is going to be a major event in 2016 with respect to bitcoin price levels. I believe bitcoins prices may test $2000 also just due to the supply decreasing factors.

I feel something like 2013 will happen again. The time is good for bitcoin. FInancial markets are in distress and investors demand ROI.

back then it was mtgox creating the huge loads of volumes and the insane all time high peak. i hope it won't happen like that again. it's nice to have a high peak where a lot people can profit from, but it's only a matter of time before that peak vanishes into thin air. i want a durable growth. let it take a few extra years to reach a new high, no problem. slow and stable growth is what i am hoping for.

2016 will have more adoptions than the previous years. Stable increase in price will be felt with periodic decrease. Block halving gives good hope for the jump in price.

This price is really ideal for the next halving and i wont expect it to raise to an all time hike as people are choosing the rate and not the bot few years ago.

I have a similar, maybe a bit more conservative view on the price action this year. I see $500-600 as the top of the range, if there is no new fundamental developments (direction mass adoption).

But I guess you will change your view once the price increase of bitcoin is started along with halving. Because the higher prices will trigger all the development needed for bitcoin ecosystem. I believe we can not predict the top of price range now itself.

the current sideways price is a good indicator especially after the bitcoin difficulty jumping 3 fold in 3 months no thanks to new tech in bitcoin mining side...

if we base it on past performance of bitcoin... we know speculation is high so we've seen it jump to 1000$... bear in mind this wasnt at a block halving also the difficulty was very low compared to today.

Now bitcoin is gaining momentum which is great... On my side of the world bitcoin has be an inflation buster... we see it holding value especially in emerging economies. We know the CNY has been manipulated to fufill government needs as for the USD its the reserve currency of the world and then you have the EUR and GBP which with whats happeing in Europe at the mo' might come under pressure.

so.. for me price should be stable as long as hasrate of the network is stable and doesnt jump... if the hash rate jumps you can bet miners are gonna sell the coins for more to cover costs...

and the halving... well this is interesting as this is forced mathematically supply constraint i.e forced value holding mechanism..

Like I said earlier Miners wanna get paid... and if they just have to take the same amount they taking now the price would have to double and be stable just to be the same  $$ dollar wise take home money as it is now... FYI allot of miners have upgraded their equipment that wouldnt have had all their ROI back before the halving.

now lets say price stays the same and the block reward halves... what this would mean is some miners would stop validating transactions hasrate comes down... but all of this make no difference in dollar terms because a block is generated evey 10 min so the revenue per day for miners is caped per day... at 1800 bitcoins at $420 instead of 3600 at $420 you see the problem here...

transaction volumes will still be the same so this transistion period will see lag on the network unless price goes up and the miners stay.

All interesting factors that will influence price.

For me at the halving or the weeks before, the bitcoin price is gonna move all over the place In excess of $1000 to $1500 and recheck back down ofter profit taking at around $900 -$800 and then equalise over 6 months to about $700. after the guys have got their equiment paid up.

But if their is an economic crash like 2008 then its gonna equalise alot higher.. not becuase bitcoin has appreciated but becuase the other currencies have depreciated...

Bitcoin will have a good future later. It will be not only this year good, but in the future it will be more after a few years.
It will take a long time to have a high value, you can even see now that the price is not rising that much.
So we have to wait a long time to make some profit.

It should be also the other way round, first the innovation then a higher valuation.

I agree that there should be some decent action first and as result to that a higher price afterwards, but what innovation are you realistically expecting this year? I can't think of any.

It is really hard to know for what is going to happen in 2016 with Bitcoin, but I think that Bitcoin will be have a good year this year.
Bitcoin is a currency and that is really hard to predict because it is every time changing and that is not good.
But you can see that the value is stable and the halving is also coming so we should have to wait for what will happen with it.

The innovation of bitcoin depends on the developers if they see fit in bitcoin,but if the developers doesnt agree on one thing then bitcoin wont evolve.

This is what is happening now. The 2MB block size increase will be delayed to the around June next year.

It may look the same, but it isn't. Back a few years, noone really knew if bitcoin is here to stay or not, and now the only sure thing is that it will be alive for
many years/decades to come. That only leaves us with the question of price, and the momentum is achieved for it to go above and beyond, to the point that
countries are starting to build up rules around it. The fact that noone really can destroy bitcoin network puts those laws more or less just as an itch, nothing more.

i think 4, it willl go slowly up with the passage of time and will reach to some $700 in a few mmonths and i think in halving it will touch the moon , so the price will definitely increased too high.

Of course, bitcoin will be alive for long, but it will be interesting to watch how it will face the strong competition of the new altcurrencies to come, especially taking into account the increasing interest of commercial and central banks in taking advantage of the blockchain to improve the current economic system.

I do agree that to get Bitcoin further, the devs must work and listen to each other, and not directly let their ego take over and ruin the entire sentiment. Bitcoin is meant to bring the change we so much want, and not to see the main devs have very different views on what might help Bitcoin move forward.

But what if we are wrong, what if bitcoin is already at his highest price, we are actually beneath 1k$ which was previous high, we are closer to 300$ than to 1k$. or we can see good pump again, but who knows what price will stay after halving.
All we can see on exchanges are manipulations and they are conducted with few thousands of bitcoins..

No we are not wrong, the price is still young.. just think about the users who are entering into bitcoin world and the price is being decreased.. Definitely by that the price will have nowhere to go but to increase...the $300 thing is not yet impossible...It is still a threat, but why think of it if we can think about positive things about bitcoin...  :)

No, now it will not come back in this year, in this year if its price did not increase at halving then it will at least reach to $500 or $600 and will remain around $450 to $550.

I think bitcoin will reach to $600 at the time of halving and by the end of the year 2016 we will be seeing much higher and better price may be it will be around $800 by year end.

Everyone has forgotten how bitcoin is fragile on bad news, and every little shade can scare investors. This is also what scares me now, good organized FUD attack can deliver us to 100$, but not for long price will be very soon, recovered i'm sure.

well i don't think that it will be stable till halving because if you would keep eye on price you would see that it's rising, but i think it is pretty real to see 50% spike because of halving, going back to low price because of sellers might be real too, but i think that at end of 2016 we wil see 800$ price atleast

i think the bitcoin price staying stable can continue as long as the big whales decide it needs to go on. they might not be satisfied with the amount they have accumulated so far. i have seen a couple of sell walls preventing the rise. but this all can change in one day.

just to maintain this stability and let it grow up to 30-40% it would be good for all of us

Unfortunately markets, Bitcoin included, are not the place for wishful thinking. If your (price) expectations disconnect from reality, you may end up very disappointed.

They want namely a good value so they can sell it later with a huge profit and that is logic.

The thing is to make sure you really see what is happening on the charts, not what you want to see. Most of the people in this forum is hyping halving, without even stopping for a moment and thinking how it can influence the price (not necessarily in a positive way). I am not bearish on the price, but I don't see the reason to reach $1k this year.

Do we really need 2x more money invested in bitcoin for 800$? How much money is really invested in bitcoin so far?  Marketcup is only estimation based on actual price not exact and precise number of fiat invested..

that is indeed a very good point. "Market cap" indicators have to be taken with a grain of salt to say the least, as  there are never all coins (in circulation) sold exactly at the given current price. Therefore, market cap can be very easy manipulated (by sudden price rise or drop) and can be very misleading. Personally I prefer much better 24 hour volume multiplied by current price to estimate the market cap. But that last one can be manipulated, too.

To answer your question, have a look at order book to check how much we need to get to any given price. Most of the exchanges show that data. That is situation for now. Of course, once the price starts to rise there may be traders getting in and out, and thus, it is hard to give you an exact answer.

We all know many investors will exit at any price or at least they will start exiting at some point when they decide that they are good. You can not you just sum those sell orders many traders selling and buying almost in the same minute - margin traders. We don't know how much resistance will be till 800$

I think the price of below $450 is quite low. I will buy some when the price dip below that level. I will hold for the long term.

Wait couple of days and you will probably get much better opportunity to get in. Don't chase the price, there will be many good opportunities ahead to make your trade.

The bitcoin will be worth a lot more this year because of the halving that is coming this year but also because its growing very fast with users all over the world.
You can also see this at the stores, there are also getting more stores online everyday for the bitcoin.

2016 is a good year for bitcoin because of block reward halving, the price will satisfy every user minds, this can continue in future only if more people get aware of bitcoin. I think as a result of halving we can see good adoption.

Predicting a big rise seems to be a logical step you can take, the market has already shown it isn't interested in falling back and intends to continue forwards.

I can't really be certain with my analysis, but it definitely seems like we're in for a wild ride.

Its hard to know what is going to happen with the value this year but I think that it will reach the $500 in the end of the year and that is not that bad now because then you can make profit.
The only thing that you need to have Bitcoin is that you need patience for it otherwise it would be not possible for you.

The price of the bitcoin in 2016 is mainly determined by the adoption of the coin. If there are more retailers accept it, the price will rise.

I am not for sure that it will be a good year for Bitcoin because there are also a lot of people that is quite negative about the halving because it is not even rising now.
And that is bad for the future because people who already have Bitcoin wants to make profit fast which that is not possible now.

the thing is the havling will decrease supply, as long as the supply is not decreased the price won't respond, and then there's also some lagg because the market takes time to react to the new rate of bitcoin that is being supplied.

so even if some speculators drive the price up by increasing demand (because of expected price rise) the effect of the supply decrease will only really happen after the halving.

some miners might hold on to their bitcoins and thereby already lower supply, because they expect price to rise as well and want to get more profit, however many miners can not afford to keep a large amount of btcoin because they need to pay electricity bills as well.

i think you mixed up a few things. do i understand it correctly if you try to say that the price won't go lower than $500 once the block halving has taken place you think it will even go to $1000 and higher?  if so, then stop dreaming. $1000 will not happen just because of the block halving. people were fantasizing about the price that will go up significantly when it was still below $300. even if you calculate 50% less block rewards will result in a 100% price increase, it won't even go to $1000.

You are true, but I think the end of year for $700 is too long, I will say that bitcoin will attend $700 before the halving and after halving it will continue its journey to increase in price much more and at the end the price will cross $1000.

So, if the price turns out to reach $1200 then what's considered a relatively small dump of 1000-2000BTC right now, will then have nearly twice as much value and damage while the number of coins is exactly the same. That will result in heavy $100 price swings several times a week with enough volatility.
