Title: Ethereum - Time to buy or time to sell?
Post by: Raja_MBZ on April 14, 2016, 03:55:36 PM
Is it time to buy ethers or just sell those which are already in pocket? Any idea?

That is only speculation what the price will do if it was that easy...we would be all rich.

I think now is good moment to buy ETH.
This dump would be very healthy for future ups

This is kinda a dumb thread since there are already like 15 of them.

I'm a presale buyer who sold way too soon (but it still put me in the green from crypto).   I'm keeping about a third of my stash in case I'm wrong but

. Almost all good news that CAN be good news at this stage has hit and much of it in the last 2 - 3 weeks.

  . Visual Studio integration
. Coverage by major news outlets
  . Announcement of new projects

. Ethereum is shutting down their official forums.

. Ethereum is still at almost at 70% of it's all time high.

. All bitcoin bad news that is possible has happened (not going to scale on chain - centralized blockstream / Chinese miners control).

Long term I'm still pretty bullish on Eth but their team is making some dumbass decisions.  On the supply side I believe 60 - 70% is still held in presale wallets (buying cost was between $0.30 & $0.40).

Make your own descision but in my opinion the likely hood of ethereum replacing bitcoin in the short term has gone down from what it was a month ago.  The short term downside risk looks much greater than the upside potential.

Well I've been totally red till now in ethereum trading. Bought 20 ethers when it was $13 each, it looks like it was waiting for me to go down, LOL. I've already sold half of my ethers at $7.50 2 days back. Wondering if I should sell off my remaining ones as well. Or maybe should wait like a day or two as price might reach 0.025 BTC or so?

I'm gonna get rid of trading for sure very soon. Always got losses in it... ::)

Price movement of ethereum is so fast and now the price is high and i think better to don't buy right now and wait again for the price cheap before we buy ethereum again.. sell it if the price again reach 0.02..

The price is quite low at the moment, so it is not time to sell. But I will buy when the price is 30% lower.

If I understood the technology,  I could probably give a much better answer--I think there's potential there,  but I'm not sure how valuable it should be.  If ETH was a stock, just based on the price action I would venture to say that it's a buy.  In other words,  I'm a typical ignorant speculator.

About ETH my idea is to not touch it for now, except if you have some information about future rise. For me eth is hot coin and if you don't know how to work with hot materials then you can burn your hands.
I don't have so much experience in trading and I will stay away from eth for now, I will wait for clear "sky" and then I will made some decisions. There was to big drama about this coin and we all saw that fantastic pump and then fall.
If you already have coins, my advice for you is too keep them safe and wait patiently.

If you still have it then sold it now before the price goes down very deep! Ethereum time has just ended right now as all atlcoins will. Hold altcoins such Ethereum for long time is very risky. It is better to avoid buying Ethereum nowadays.

I'm not planning to hold ETH for long term till the btc halving , after that I may hold ETH
so far ETH looks good for day trading but for long term in my opinion nothing is clear , it may be better to just hold bitcoins at the moment

I wouldn't actually do that if i were you. the old coin is getting old and devs are tired making it look like its going to skyrocket any moment. it went less than 0.009 lately, they may pump it a little but don't expect it to go 0.02 again.

unless it goes back to 0.004. but for now, you can go invest to newer coins instead.

With this cryptocurrency thing, we should be ready for any sort of loss, honestly. I risked the amount of which I could bear the loss of. Not more than that.

As I sold my all the ethers, it's value has started to increase once again! :o It looks pretty simple, whenever I buy a coin, it's value decreases, whenever I sell a coin, it's value increases.

Anybody else facing this feeling?

Ethereum will never replace Bitcoin.. anyone that is realistic about things knows this already.
Now, does Ehtereum have a niche usage that Bitcoin can't fill? That's yet to be seen. Bitcoin can make Ethereum redundant thanks to sidechain technology, if the need for weird smart contracts that cannot be done under Bitcoin Script ever arises, but most smart contracts will be done under the elegance, simplicity and ligth-weightiness of Bitcoin Script.

Lots of people, and not just here. In fact, one of the oldest stock-market barroom jokes is: "Want to become rich on the stock market? Just sell what I buy and buy what I sell. Do the opposite of me and you'll be loaded."

(It's funnier after the fifth beer.)

Traders won't abandon this coin in 1 or 2 days. ETH has too much volume and big holders need a few more pump before they can sell. My advice is to buy ETH on dips and sell on pumps. ETH was less than 0.017 a week ago but now it is higher than 0.022. All the 'bad' news that ETH is closing their website is used by whales to accumulate cheap to sell later.

I agree partly of it. Whales can pretty much sell now and take a good profit. Even better is the volume working out for them.
I do think the bad news is meant to influence on the price though.

the time to buy and time to sell ethereum comes and goes so fast.

so right now may be good and another second may be bad, but i think at this stage it is generally a bad investment to go in ethereum but you can still risk it and take chances and look out for the dumps.

I would reckon to do the same.
Although i would buy from 3 dollar and sell when it hits 18 dollar.
As long if there is traction we will see new highs/lows.

Both of you guys have a very good plan, I would like to hear how sure you are in that. I mean do you really imagine that earning money on trading is easy like that?
If eth fall so low, I doubt it can rise again. And if it rise, how much time we need to wait for that? Few months, a year maybe?
We will see about that new high's, and for new low's probably in some near future.

Buy coins with good reputation and low market cap. As, for example, YACoin [YAC] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=206577.0), Ultracoin [UTC] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=727023.0), Securecoin [SRC] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=270852.0)

As for Ethereum - it has the good future for sure!

On my judgment, it's not a good time to buy right now seeing that there is still a stir on people about one of ethereum's forum shutting down in the near future: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/6293/GeorgeHallam. If you are one of the lucky people who rode ETH's ride from its inception up until its peak on the 2nd week of March, you've earned yourself a lot of money. But right now, in the current situation of ETH, not a good time to buy.

its simple; put your money where your mouth is!
buy or sell; all i know is, it feels like the right time to have eth;

personally, i have no clue whatever ethereum actually is and/or does; i'm just curious and want in;
at the same time, my precious fiat only goes where my mouth is, in other words, its not going into altcoins;

i do want eth but i dont wanna spend money on it,
quick solution, break out gpu rigs, collect eth and then decide whatever to do with them;

I'm long on Eth, I'm trying to look at it through my past Btc investments early on. I would like to have double, what i already own, so on big drops I buy more. If it drops way below my cost average, and stays there for a bit. When I get some excess cash, I continue buying try to bring my cost average inline.

Well, I bought a bit as part of a buy-in-stages plan to "leg in" and HODL. Only a minnow's worth, but what the hey.

And what I bought, I've already lent out on Polo's Loan Market. The low offer is pretty durn high: 0.0397%. Must be a fair bit of eager short sellers. ;)

So if I had say 1000 Eth, and lent it out.. I would get a 39 Eth a day return? Does that sound right ?
I've looked at Polo lending before.. I thought for some reason the big money was in BTC, where you could make double or something over 12 months.

No - that is 3.9% per day.  It's a fraction of a percent so .039 is .00039 - or .39 eth per day.

Buy eth right now and wait for it to go up. The coin has potential to go up in the future. We just have to hold on to it for a little longer.

You can also do short trades. Buy when eth's price is low and sell it when it's high enough for you.

Today and a few weeks I will not suggest to buy, just wait a little, when the halving of bitcoin will be near there will be much less people in the other coins and everyone will be busy to buy bitcoin, so at that time Ethereum will reach to much less amount. Just see the near future will be about $1 per ethereum.

For me its time to sell it because the price of ethereum right now is high.. so better to sell it right now so that you can make a profit and wait again for the price below 0.015 and buy again and sell it again for the price reach 0.02.. This is a great strategy in ethereum the movement price of ethereum is fast so you can make profit fast..

I don'T see how alts can keep up with BTC as far as the ratio between the two goes. Yeah, they might pump with BTC but I feel when all is said and done, these coins will be valued in USD (especially once you can send money to a big exchange and buy any alt, and that is coming due to coming regs imo.)

There will be speculation on things like ETH, LISK and other promising cryptos but I would not go all in on a big BTC rise (well, watch and follow the trend might be safer.)
That said, once the masses jump on board they might jump onto what they can get more of...

not necessarily.
there is no rule about this. sometimes some of the altcoins have moved with bitcoin price movement and sometimes they didn't.
one of these coins were always LTC that moved with bitcoin.

but i think if the BTC price rises that will cause a lot of ETH investors to dump their coins in order to be able to buy bitcoin and not fall behind on the train.

Well, I bought a bit as part of a buy-in-stages plan to "leg in" and HODL. Only a minnow's worth, but what the hey.

And what I bought, I've already lent out on Polo's Loan Market. The low offer is pretty durn high: 0.0397%. Must be a fair bit of eager short sellers. ;)

Is there a minimum of ETH you need to loan it?

I believe you can lend as little as 0.001 ETH at a time, at least that is the minimum amount you can offer on the BTC side, so I assume it is the same with ETH. With BTC it make more sense to lend in fractions, but with ETH fairly cheap compared to BTC it is not hard to have at least 1 ETH to lend out.

The minimums only apply to the initial offering you do manually, sometimes automatic renewals break this amount into smaller pieces so a auto renew can be even a smaller amount. This is one quirk of Poloniex, I have had a times several 1 satoshi BTC loans out due to the auto-renewal and of course you never will earn the interest on them since the minimum credit of course needs to be at least 1 satoshi.

Ethereum price keep moving down. Its better to wait it till it up again(if it is possible) then start to buy it and beware dont hold it for a long time. Sell it when we got even a little profit from it and wait on the next movement and soon. For awhile, dont do anything!

I think that was one of the major factors. That is why we can perhaps predict that latecomers will come and pump the price just before the ICO price goes up

Is it time to buy ethers or just sell those which are already in pocket? Any idea?
It's too early to say. I think you should give it some time. It's only now that ethereum gets traction, with the help of Consensys studio which works hard on developing on top of ethereum blockchain.
As more dapps are develop on top of it, touching addressing real life scenarios, the value will get bigger, I think. But it depends more what type of investor you are. You are happy to mark your early earnings selling now at 10.44 US, or you can afford to wait more, to give time to ethereum go be more and more used for different implementations.
For example, I'm buying. But I'm for the long play. Not hit and run.

5 Ethereum product are in the top 10 Marketcap :

#2 Ethereum - $750M
#5 Augur - $79,5M
#6 MakerDAO - $44M
#8 TheDAO - $16M
#9 DigixDAO - $13M
Half of the top 10 marketcap projects are ethereum projects. Very bullish indeed. Soon it'll be 9/10 or even 10/10 hehe.
Projects that will soon be in the top 10: SwarmDAO, GolumDAO and more.

everyday eth are bought and removed from exchangers sent to DAO and other tokens

so may be time to accumulate eth ? https://etherscan.io/accounts/1

The question is : what will be eth price on the last day of DAO ? = eth huge panic buy ? (fear of missing something = human nature)

or may be i'm missing something ?

Until there is no app that can be used in real life I would say it's a bubble. Having all these directions with possible implementations over ethereum it's only more fishing rods in the water. The sooner there are apps build on DAO for IoT(for example) or anything, it's not going to be a bubble it's going to be real value. Until then it's just for some bull for some bear depending on the risk appetite.

I also feel same for current ethereum pump, but it may also be quite natural bubble from increasing demand due to DAO tokens or some intresting coming after consensus. But whatever is the reason there will be soon be dumpers all around the market making correction in the price. Best time to buy coins are at the correction period.

But I think there is a big dump at the time when halving will come to near, everyone will stay busy in collecting bitcoin and will convert their other currencies to bitcoin so there is a fear that the ethereum price will come back to lowest price.

ETH has been in a general down trend since the high on March 13.  The April 30 spike broke some of that momentum when it bounced off the long term trendline. Then the DAO sale kicked in, which has sucked up around 3% of all Ethereum so far, and is providing a short term boost to the price. But as DAO sale ends--and if BTC cuts north on a big rally--ETH could be in for another big sell off.

Not really. The DAO and the Ethereum foundation now own close to 3/4 of all ETH. That ETH is locked say from the markets so in essence there is less ETH available for traders to buy. As demand increases for this smaller supply them price should rise.

You don't have to buy or sell, you can wait for the market to move to a point that you feel offers value in one direction or the other.

at 0.028 I agree, it could go either way. People might want to get into the DAO so buy ETH, or maybe they are done buying now as the price is rising, so the price will stabilize or fall.
Best not to trade if you don't have a strong opinion though, imo.

You invested into premined coin and if you did so then you should keep it and see how it evolves...or go to red numbers ROFL. You already made your decision when you were buying so why ask again?

With the PoW, the ICO coins will be diluted. So it is distributed more evenly. PoW will last until next year.

There is mining cost associated with the PoW mining, so it will put a kine of "floor" price on the coin.

Watch out for the BTC halving - it looks like a "Chinese pump" is developing in anticipation of the "havening." :)

If the bitcoin price rises due to halving, the Etherum price will drop relative to bitcoin, so it is better to sell now.

Wait until it crashes. The hilarious part of all this ico business as of late is they seem to depend on btc staying at this price level or going down. Essentially, a bet against the halving. When btc surges, most other alts almost always suffer.

I have to agree with you, litecoin price has been relatively stable through the general alt downtrend of late. I wonder if this suggest people are becoming very comfortable with Ltc as an alternate, long term crypto asset, instead of some of the newer alts. It's been around the longest on the alt scene, and has the strongest associations with btc. People may invest in the newer technologies, as a speculative bet, but you always want at least one relatively stable asset so all the eggs don't break if the basket drops.

Anything is possible, but I think we would only see this price range if there is a scandal, or major bug. Maybe if we went into a really long downtrend, but I think it would pick back up immediately if it gets sub 4.50.

What do you think? And when it comes to comparison to Litecoin, LTC still have a stable standing and good for buying right?

Why would you expect the price of ETH to drop so much? The recent DAO sale effectively locked away a very large healthy chunk of ETH from the market this limiting the market supply. The era of cheap ETH is over. If you didn't heed the advice of myself and others over the last few weeks that you needed to buy and immediately. Well I am sorry you have now missed the ETH train to the ETH Moonship.

Yeah and after some time ETH will accumulate it's price and BTC will fall down again as there is not that much apparent reason for BTC rising except for chinas market Continuosly falling down only.

so right now it is good to buy ETH. and convert some of your BTC to the said altcoin.

The the train us on a circular track, it will come back around. The same eth was locked into the DAO before the recent fall from 15 to 10$, why now would it continue to uptrend with more liquidity in the same conditions? (Btc is still going up). The eth train was only missed if you didn't mine in/buy in sub 5, and don't kick yourself, it will most likely come around again

yeah actually I have a thread about that BTC price increase but all of the reasons are not that much to contribute on continuous increasing of BTC price, your right about the halving as it is one of the reason that affect the BTC price seriously followed by the China's market, and block size increase but that doesn't show that it will contribute to continuous rise of BTC as we can see now BTC price is slowly going down again, as for my speculation price will go up to $550 - 600 and go down to 530 back to 550 and slowly comes back to its normal price of around 460.

yeah if everything goes right, taking into to account the incoming alt coins like WAVES and the up growing of the currently released alt coin LISK which are now gaining on the market, but as of now and as what I've observe ETH price will be stable and no big increase or decrease might happen for about a month or a couple of months.

If you have a big ETH better to hold it for a while because price might increase after the disappointment of the people in BTC halving Price increase speculations, and one more reason it might increase is the china's failing market so better wait before selling immediately, ETH is listed as one of the most successful alt coins created thus making it more potential for increase and stable price.

Your right that ETH is too different from BTC since ETH is just an alt-coin that are also based on the best cryptocurrency which is BTC.

When it regards  to LISK, I think LISK are too far from affecting the ETH since LISK doesn't have the good result after it's launch as we can see now it is struggling to rise and are currently tied to its normal based price now due to lack of investors, and It will take a very long time for it to match ETH, Maybe you can consider the Waves as WAVES have a great promised features and does have a great specifications, great founder and a lot of ICO participants.

It's okay, Lesson should be learn, that is trading and the best thing to keep in mind is that don't worry to much when price goes down as there will still be a corresponding opposite effect of it, but the thing is we don't know when will it be, Good luck on your next trading mate.

The key word in the rumour is 'quietly'. Large bulk orders would indeed spike the price but spike it even for the banks. Which, knowing banks and bankers, they don't want.

Its lucky we have "inside"  info on this.  You guys are worse than the speculation thread.  Eth is rising because it's riding on the back of bitcoin,  if bitcoin drops then eth goes down with it.

It is very difficult to say. But when the price drops below $11, I might buy some. It depends on the news at the time.

I will set a limit order around $10. I think the developers still have some Etheruem themselves, they will keep it alive.

The Ethereum price is $16.5 at the moment. It will have to drop 40% to reach the $10 level. Goood luck.

The price reached $18.9 today. That is another all time high.  I am wondering who is buying the Etheruem now.
Rumour is that quietly the banks have been ordered to fill their books with ETH due to successful proto type of new financial blockchain running Ethereum.

If that rumour is true, the price would have been $50 or $100, not just $18 now. But that is a good rumour any way.
The key word in the rumour is 'quietly'. Large bulk orders would indeed spike the price but spike it even for the banks. Which, knowing banks and bankers, they don't want.

Can't agree more. Buy bulks in discreet if that's what you are plannning to do. That way you won't alarm the big guys.

I mine the Ethereum. So I shall not sell any Etheruem just in case the rumour is true and the price will rise a lot.

It is better to sell some Ethereum to buy some bitcoin. Just in case the Ethereum will rise slower than bitcoin.

+1... Look at the rise in value of ethereum, it is good, but still not better than bitcoin. I'm keeping 15% ethers, 5% monero, 5% lisk and 75% bitcoin, from my money. That's the best ratio to keep these four crypto-currencies, IMO. Rest of the crypto-currencies seem useless to me.

But Ethereum has been rising faster than bitcoin recently and is just better than bitcoin in every way.  Why would you want to lose money by not buying ethereum?

Are you insane? Do you hate yourself?  What is the reason?

Who told you that ethereum has been rising more faster than bitcoin? Mate, I follow CoinMarketCap.com, and look at the rise in value there, bitcoin's value is rising more faster than ethereum, and with more stability too.

Yes there is. A resolution has been proposed and the funds will not be released from the child DAO. Some of the greatest minds in crypto have been working on the solution and it will be announced soon. Rest assured ETH is back and after this drama it will be stronger than ever.

see the trends now, if buy>sell then it's the time for you to buy, even a little price increase could give you profit but if the trend are now selling, just simply waiting for another chance, sometimes coin is unpredictable but this tip is really work so far to see the market condition, market is not about news or whatsoever it's about the demands

From what I understand is that the hard fork would take away all the ether that was taken in the hack from the address where it is now and put it back to another address.
Really, if they make that once, who says they can't make it a second time?? It would be an invasion in the blockchain.
That destroys a lot of trust, so people sell.

Now is a great time to trade it, as the volatility is what offers the opportunity to profit. You can make money both ways, not just buy and hold.

When buying coins you should always put into your mind the Buy Low, Sell High. Whatever coin was that, Bitcoin, Litecoin, Etherium, Dogecoin and many more. For ETH, I think it is not the best time to buy it because its value is high. If you are wanting to have profit selling it then you should wait for a week or to to make its price low. Though you can buy now and earn profit from it, but not the profit that yo will get when you wait for it to drop.

if it is not much and you like holding it, then do it but i think it would have been so much better if you have sold and waited to see the bottom and then watched to see if ETH dies or is there any bounce back and then bought back at a lower price. because right now it seems to be on a dying path that is only going to get worse.

Depends on the price you bought at. If ICO or 5 dollars and below keep them. If higher then sell some and take some profits, this way if the price does go down then you can buy more lower and increase your holding. Eth will recover and go back up again in the long term!

I don't think that it is the DAO per se. I think the DAO showed us a very very large attack vector. It is going to be important to really define what and how to do it on Ethereum.
I still think ETH succeeds, but I am not sure when she will bottom.

It seems people have enough faith in Ethereum to make it 2nd cryptocurrency in the world with current market cap ($932,008,768) far beyond any other crypto.
Right after Ethereum we have Steem with market cap of $299,032,870 - The Dao incident sure was not as severe as I anticipated and people are still flocking in the ETH yard.

it should help ETH to rise again. just like how DAO helped eth.
ETH had survived the great FUD of its life so it has no reason why it would ever fail this time. so you wanna be part of the growth, buy now.

I am very surprised that the Etheruem survived the biggest fud ever in the history of crypto currency.
We shouldn't really be surprised because most of the ETH holders and community, who are overwhelmingly intellectuals, could read through the ETH haters FUD.

About 90% of the Ethereum voters vote for the hard fork. These are the people who actually owns Ehteruem.

According to http://ethpool.org/stats/votes, the no vote to the fork is increasing at the moment. So the fork might not happen.

I think the price of Ethereum could rise a lot after the hard fork, if there is very quick converge of the block chain.

today price and marketcap
ETH  11.38    $ 934,171,307
LTC   4.17     $ 194,873,560

ethereum already beat ltc price and marketcap.

the time to act on etherum changes a lot every day. right now eth is having a lot of crisies that needs fixing before it can move forward. and even then, people are having a hard time trusting this coin anymore. that is why the price has gone down so much.

Actually, the DAO hack has very big effect. Without it, the price of Ethereum could already be $30 to 50 now.
Yes, you are right price rise was stopped, but I was expecting total DAO crash after this hack.
And nothing more beside price drop happened. People are still pushing  ETH and DAO so hard that they are forgetting about security.

Ethereum has shown great potential so i think still its time to buy..I am holding some ethereum right now..i think it will beat litecoin in price next year

I don't think that old altcoins like LTC or DOGE have any chance at this point. Market is dominated but new aggressive coins.
Especially ETH and Steem and projects like Ripple are taking their share of the cake.

That could be right. Many people are shorting the Ethereum at the moment. When the price rises, they have to buy back their shorts , that will increase the price as well.

ethereum is getting to risky and too shady for my taste to want to invest in it anymore. I had a good time when it was getting hyped up in the beginning and rose up from nothing (<$1) to the moon but after those first couple of pumps everything has been going down hill with massive vitalik dumps to the hack scandals and dictatorship fork.
I'd rather stay on the side and watch what happens rather than getting my hands dirty!

In my humble opinion, ETH is done as an investment for a while. It already has grown too much and after recent DAO problems I just can't see it growing more than 20-30%. There are better projects that still didn't get as much price incerase. Take a look at Lisk

That is a great news for the community of not only ethereum but for all of the crypto world, as with that now every person will have trust on crypto currency, with that now we came to know that crypto currency if stolen can easily recovered. But nowwe are only waiting for the price to come back at where it was.

ETH is up for now. Once the exchanges open up the deposits for ETH, the price will go down quickly as there will not be enough buyers to absorb all the DAO sellers. The price could drop a lot when all these ETH goes into the market.

I doubt there will be a rush to cash out of dao, there was plenty of time to cash out of dao. The price of dao and eth are almost at parity, weak hands are already out plus look at the volume of eth traded it over 50 million and it is holding strong.

ETH, throughout all of this, has been unusually stable (it's being supported I think). ETC is another story, that isn't quite finished yet. With that being said, the looming threat of yet another fork makes this too risky to touch at the moment, unless that is what you are looking for. It might take 5 forks, but eventually people are.going to get weary of all this shit storm and divest from the Ethereum asset family.

Why should do that ?? because the whales want to ? It can be done but the price must stay stable for months, and plus they need cheap coins for the devs in order to lure them.. So its most likely whales goes where the profit is, and i dont see any long term profit on ETC

ETH exchange rate currently is not bad, on the past day there were many ups and downs but if we zoomout the chart we can see that it still worth to buy ethereum and probably sell later, I'm thinking to buy some and hold them for a week as I hope I can make profit.

From the current price trend and words from the developers, it is better to keep some ETH now.

The mining profitability of the ETC is higher than the ETH. So it is better to mine the ETC and sell for ETH.

I notice the hashing rate of the ETC changes according to the price, if the price is high, there are more hashes.

That is because the miners are switching between the ETH and ETC. They will mine the more profitable one.

Then it is in the interest of the miners for ETC to succeed. The whales also have this interest, so does the DAO attacker and Vitalik himself. They potentially have the equivalent amount of ETC thru the ETH they are holding. So it is untrue that some people say that the original chain will lose and die. It is more profitable for ETC to live on and have a high price.

If the ETH can keep the PoW mining for longer and the miners can earn more, I think the miners will support ETH.

I think it is better to the Ethereum to remain PoW for the next few years so that the premine will have smaller proportion.

Can I ask a dumb question? is it possible that ETC and ETH will both just continue to do well and climb steadily, or does one have to eventually win and be the only remaining coin, cause based just on how much this coin is being talked about everywhere, I think its got some life left.

I believe they both can continue to rise steadily or crash independently from each other. Just the same Devs. Kind of a dick move to fork, if you ask me

So there will be no more tolls about the ETH by the ETC supporters. They will have their own business to mind.

Not necessary true. The ETC shills want to destroy the ETH and pump the ETC and then dump it as the DAO hacker might dump it.

Ethereum price can not always follow bitcoin price.
For me ethereum price is like random changes , why? I see there a lot of people buying and invest their money on eth but still the price get dropped.
I have no interest anymore on eth, they are too mainstream recently.

It is time to sell and only watch this. It would be a mistake to buy now because we do not anymore the future of Ethereum. Many companies are now turned of from it because of the incompetence of the Ethereum foundation. It will go through a slow collapse that have started after the hard fork. Be careful.

Give it about 3 months more and see how the price moves. The Ethereum foundation is running out of money and they have no choice but to sell their premine of ETH. Wait for this moment. The main problem is what whale is willing to buy a big load of ETH now that its reputation is tarnished and the ETH foundation was proven to be not trustworthy.

The price of ethereum right is increased and i think its still not good to buy ethereum right now because anytime the price could be crash so better to wait more weeks or months that the price will go $8 to $10 before you buy again back..
So it is good to sell right now to gain profit if you buy ethereum for low price..

from today trend it is not bad to invest some amount in ethereum but we should not have to invest for longer time in that as it is not a stable currency so we cannot say that it will rise continuously or will be at higher price for longer. In short its price is unpredictable.

That is right. I think the Etheruem price will rise to around 0.02 in the next few days. That is around $12.

from today trend it is not bad to invest some amount in ethereum but we should not have to invest for longer time in that as it is not a stable currency so we cannot say that it will rise continuously or will be at higher price for longer. In short its price is unpredictable.

I think now the price is going better and we can trust on it as from the time of hard fork we are seeing that there is now no any issue with ethereum and everyone is investing in it and are happy with it.

I do not see the price of Ethereum to go any lower. The hard fork was a success and the stolen money was returned.

Off course yes if you are seeing the graph you can see if you are going to buy ethereum now or not if there are group who are pumping the price of the ethereum  you should buy now to make profit even its low.

There is some good news about the application of Ethereum:
http://futurism.com/spanish-bank-giant-santander-looks-to-blockchain-as-banking-future/

Bitcoin is blockchain, but blockchain is not just bitcoin. Because of its association with bitcoin, the use of blockchain has been subject to dissenting opinions — especially when it comes to banks using them.

Spanish banking giant Santander may become the first in the industry to explore digitalization of public cash using the public Ethereum blockchain. Roman Mandeleil, Ether.camp founder and Ethereum Java client developer, revealed the project during a panel talk at Devcon2 today. Officials at Santander have confirmed the announcement, making the bank the first to issue digital cash on a live public blockchain.

This is not the first time Santander has opted to use blockchain. In May of this year, it began testing blockchain technology in accepting international payments.

IN BRIEF

Santander Bank has announced it will be digitizing public cash using Ethereum blockchain.

Questions about security, of course, are to be expected. Both Mandeleil and Santander are working towards smooth transactions, and even encouraging other banks to follow suit. After legal papers are arranged, Santander’s dip into blockchain will become official.

We seen that the price of ETH is decrease few days ago.. and i think the price right now for ethereum still high and this is still not the right time to sell or even buy because the price is high and if you missed to sell you can sell it right now but there is possibility that the price will hit again back to 14 usd..

Can This 22-year-old Coder Out-Bitcoin Bitcoin?

Vitalik Buterin, creator of the fast-growing new cryptocurrency network Ethereum, wants to use his technology to disrupt, well, everything.

The chaos started in the morning hours of Friday, June 17. At 8:15 a.m. Berlin time, Griff Green, a community organizer for Slock.it, a German tech firm, blared an alarm: “EMERGENCY ALERT!” he wrote in a public chat channel.

“PLEASE DM A SLOCK.IT MEMBER ASAP!!!” he continued, addressing stakeholders in a blockbuster venture codeveloped by the company, the DAO (pronounced like the Chinese philosophical tenet), which had been hailed as the most successful crowdfunded project of all time. Three people replied immediately: “Uh oh.” “What is going on?” “Oh shit.”

Green waited another half-hour before adding, “We aren’t sure what is happening but the DAO is in an emergency situation.”

The letters in DAO stood for decentralized autonomous organization, and the idea was that the startup would be a new type of corporation—built on the technology that powers cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin—with algorithms executing the strategy instead of human managers. Specifically, its coders intended the DAO to function like a venture capital firm—a kind of Kickstarter-like Kleiner Perkins.

A month earlier thousands of investors had plowed some $160 million into the experimental company. Their contributions were made in Ether, a year-old digital currency (and rival to Bitcoin) that they had exchanged for virtual tokens. The DAO’s creators had designed the software to execute the will of its token holders, based on a tally of their collectively computed votes.

The investors had been assured the money was safe when they deposited it in the DAO. The network powering it was “more secure than every bank put together,” Stephan Tual, one of the DAO’s originators as well as a cofounder and the chief operating officer of Slock.it, had boasted during the project’s funding campaign.

But now a hacker had broken in and was in the process of pilfering their funds. Green recommended that constituents spam the network—clogging its pipes—to slow down the thief. “Yeah sorry guys. this is not a drill,” Green added lamely.

n the chatroom, emotions ran high. “Are we fckd?” one person asked. “Man what a epic failure,” ranted another. “I’m in the bathtub, about to throw a toaster in!” said a third. Another person summarized: “:fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: NOBODY PANIC :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:” Many drew comparisons to Mt. Gox, a Japanese virtual-currency exchange—once the largest of its kind—that had collapsed in a catastrophic $460 million hack two years prior. Were they now watching the DAO implode too?

By the time Slock.it had regained control the next day, the hacker (or hackers) had stolen more than $50 million—nearly a third of the DAO’s funds. As people scrambled to make sense of the calamity, one name rang out in the forum. “Where is Vitalik?” asked one. “Wake up vitalik,” pleaded another. “Vitalik, our alien overlord, please save us.”

“Calm down,” came a reply. “Vitalik is working on it.”

A month after the hack—and mere days after presiding over a controversial vote to initiate a “hard fork” process that would recover the DAO’s stolen funds and make whole its backers—Vitalik Buterin is listening impassively to a guy wearing a beanie cap shaped like a Pokémon dragon. “This is a really tricky game,” says the man in the hat, an assistant professor of computer engineering, as he excitedly begins to lay out a complicated logic puzzle. But before he can get too far, Buterin quietly interrupts with a clever solution. “Oh,” says the Pokémon prof, crestfallen. “That’s actually pretty cool.”

Buterin (No. 31 on 2016 40 Under 40 list), a 22-year-old coder, is visiting the Cornell University campus for a boot camp organized by IC3, or the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies & Contracts, an academic consortium that researches peer-to-peer payment systems. Roughly two-dozen programmers are gathered around a long conference table inside Gates Hall (as in Bill and Melinda), the brand-new, steel-plated home to Cornell’s computing and information science departments. The air is thick with talk of “stochastic dominance,” “Merkle trees,” and “zk-SNARKs.”

Although he’s among the youngest in the room, Buterin is indisputably the star of the group. He is, after all, the wunderkind creator of Ethereum, the network on which Ether runs. And Ether is now the biggest rival to Bitcoin, the $10 billion cryptocurrency that mysteriously burst onto the scene less than a decade ago.

It ain't, because it has now started dropping after the hack that took place in it...
I think being too speculative would be silly here as the price is just holding because big whales have their investments that they currently don't want to ruin such an opportunity that has created a lot of mess these days, but be sure that you will see it ending in the dust very soon...

Selling at this price doesn't make much sense, nor does buying at this price makes sense, since it's actually quite high.

http://www.coindesk.com/so-ethereums-blockchain-is-still-under-attack/

You might not have noticed, but ethereum is under attack.

What began over two weeks ago with spam attacks that led to large-scale ethereum node outages has escalated into a battle that has pitted the platform's developers against unknown antagonists. This might sound like an exciting Hollywood movie, but it's mostly been carried out on message boards and with code.

Shots were first fired at ethereum's big developer conference, Devcon2, with a mysterious message written in German and delivered via transaction method payload. The message said "Go home", but to those who have been following the network's contentious changes this summer, the full meaning was clear.

Since then, block creation and transactions have continued to be impacted, with nodes syncing up to the network more slowly. But while various fixes have since been implemented, the attacker continues to find vulnerabilities to exploit and, in turn, create new ways to launch denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.

The result: the network is being flooded with transaction spam.

Blockstack co-founder Muneeb Ali called it a "cat-and-mouse game" that could potentially continue to slow down transactions on the network, the second most popular by market cap.

Most of the attacks have thus far affected nodes running the Go-version ethereum client (Geth), the most popular implementation of ethereum, though Parity, an alternative client released at the conference, has been impacted in some instances.

The latest release, called "Dear Diary", aims to stop the "root cause" of many of the attacks with a technique called "journalling."

Anatomy of an attack

One problem that has emerged for client developers is that those behind the attack are constantly switching their tactics.

The attacker or attackers are deploying smart contracts to the ethereum blockchain, and then committing transactions that impact how clients handle data, slowing them down to the point that blocks and transactions become delayed.

(For a peek into what's going on, see the barrage of small transactions sent by the attacker to overwhelm the network).

The first line of attack targeted an out-of-memory bug, which the Geth team moved to fix in a subsequent software update.

"In ethereum one of the challenges is that we have this huge database that grows much faster for example than bitcoin," said ethereum developer Péter Szilágyi, who works on Geth, adding that the attackers have taken advantage of this issue.

"We never thought about this attack vector," he added.

The focus on Geth has prompted some users to spin up nodes using Parity. In the wake of the first attacks, most miners made the switch.

However, Geth is still by far the most popular client, numbering nearly 7,000 nodes compared to Parity’s 900, although the numbers are constantly fluctuating.

Meanwhile, Ethereum Foundation IT consultant Hudson Jameson chose to emphasize that the Geth team has been able to fix every issue that's been thrown at it so far. This argument was also stressed by ethereum miner Jonathan Toomim, who called the fixes, deployed within days, "impressive".

"The network will go on, and these nuisance attacks will stop eventually," he reasoned.

Yet for how long remains unclear. Each time Geth or Parity releases an update, the attacker finds a new vulnerability.

Those behind the attacks don't seem to mind the cost of doing so, having spent thousands of dollars worth of ether – the cryptocurrency of the ethereum network – to fuel the attacks.

"To date, the attacker has spent over $3,000 worth of ether, solely in gas-costs," Jameson estimated.

Impact on users

Many argue that the attacks are an inevitable result of the way ethereum is designed, and that it has a  "large attack surface."

More on-platform capabilities means that there are more opportunities for trouble, at least compared to other blockchain networks, which are less ambitious..

"The larger problem is that the way ethereum is designed. There’s too much exposure so the attacker can trigger certain things or send certain types of transactions," Ali said. "Think of it this way: ethereum allows people too much freedom over what they can do to someone else’s computer."

Even if Geth nodes are no longer crashing completely, however, it has resulted in an overall slower network, making ethereum less available to anyone who want to spin up a smart contract or send a transaction.

Since the attacks, some users have reported having problems accessing their funds with Mist, the popular ethereum wallet.

One user even observed when switching pools that mining profitability has decreased for smaller pools, which is potentially a concern for an ecosystem that doesn't want bigger miners to have more control.

The network is also more vulnerable overall if all of its nodes are not functioning properly.

"Causing large portions of the nodes or miners to drop off the network, or fall behind, is naturally rather severe, since such attacks can be a prequel to a double spending-attack," Jameson said.

However, some users seem unfazed, with many developers continuing to work on other projects. Two ethereum projects, FirstBlood and SingularDTV, held crowdsales to raise project funds amid the attack.

Finding a fix

As far as reducing the impact, developers have come up with ideas for how to fix the problem with medium- to long-term changes, in what Jameson calls an "ecosystem-wide effort."

"One of the solutions is to make it more expensive to perform these kinds of attacks," Szilágyi said.

He explained that raising the prices for certain ethereum commands might mean protocol-level changes to Metropolis, ethereum's next big software release that is intended to be more developer-friendly.

Jameson also mentioned rebooting the bounty program, through which developers can earn bitcoin for detecting and reporting bugs. "That way people can submit their flaws legitimately instead of attacking the network," he said.

However, his hope is that the detection of these bugs will make ethereum stronger in the end.

"In the long-term, these attacks increase the resiliency of the Ethereum network," Jameson added said, arguing that the diversity of clients handicaps an attack from impacting all nodes.

Role of the foundation

Others seem to think that it's unclear how quickly that ethereum will recover.

"The Ethereum Foundation is trying to downplay them and spin the situation in a good way, saying that attacks will help to harden the network," ethereum classic lead developer, Arvicco, argued.

While the comments are not surprising given that he leads an alternative project, they point to the overall sentiment of those who have been critical of the organization that funds protocol development and its handling of the situation.

Others remain uncertain what to take away just yet.

Ali said he thinks ethereum team has done a good job thus far in addressing the vulnerabilities.

Still, he suggested there might be no end in sight should ideological motivations to disrupt the network continue unabridged, but that this ultimately might be the best outcome.

There will be another hard fork, the price might even drop further.

https://blog.ethereum.org/2016/10/13/announcement-imminent-hard-fork-eip150-gas-cost-changes/

During the last couple of weeks, the Ethereum network has been the target of a sustained attack. The attacker(s) have been very crafty in locating vulnerabilities in the client implementations as well as the protocol specification.

While the recent patches have led to an overall increased resiliency in the client implementations, the attacks have also demonstrated that a lower-level change to the EVM pricing model is needed.

For many users, the most visible consequence is probably that they are having difficulties getting transactions included in blocks, and full nodes are facing memory limitations in managing the bloated state.

This is our strategy to address these issues:

As a temporary measure to minimize the effects of the most recent attack, we recommend all miners to lower the gaslimit to 500K gas.
A hard-fork based on EIP 150 version 1c will be put into effect at block 2457000 [see below]. This will reprice certain operations to correspond better to the underlying computational complexity.
A second hard-fork will follow shortly after, aimed at reverting the current “state-bloat” introduced by the attacks. This second fork will serve to remove accounts which are empty; lacking code, balance, storage and nonce == 0.
We have implemented the changes required in the clients and are currently extending and adding tests in an effort to prevent the introduction of consensus-breaking vulnerabilities.

And as a reminder, the Ethereum Bug Bounty is open and includes the new hardfork-implementations.

EDIT: Fork block has been moved to 2463000 in order to accommodate even more testing.

I predict price would reach $20 level again, only if there will be no more attacks coming after the recent successful hardfork.

i am actually quite pessimistic about ethereum, I dont think ethereum could reach 20$, i think etehreum will fall down and down, the hardfork really drop my trust level on ethereum, so i don't think there will be price rise on ethereum

no i do not think so. to  me Ethereum has a good potential of increasing the price, and you will see that very soon Ethereum is going to cross 20$. as there is always  a good volume in Ethereum.

That could be right. But the Etheruem price is still below 0.021 at the moment. Maybe more attacks coming.

When the ethereum price hit the into 0.016 bitcoin then it is a big change to buy lots of ethereum because after a week ethereum price will back into normal rate 0.019 bitcoin and there are chance that you can really make 0.003 profit per ethereum just don't mind the risk there. focus on altcoins.

ofcourse it is a time to buy because everything going on ok and no problem for further in the future of atleast for one to two months and problem of hard fork has been solved . so everyone will buy , so i will suggest you to buy at first at chip rate and wait for increase price .

There will be another hard fork.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/58i8e0/update_on_hf_2_and_client_optimizations/?st=iuk0rrbq&sh=55de5409

Geth developers are working on an optimization that will store a direct on-disk table representing account storage, allowing accounts to be accessed in O(1) leveldb reads instead of O(log(n)) leveldb reads as is the case now. Preliminary tests suggest a 5x speedup in processing account reads if this is done. This is a fairly large change to the client (not quite but almost as complex as journaling) so don't expect it out tomorrow, but it will make a large difference.
Simpler optimizations on the in-memory trie cache are achieving ~30% speedups.
We're looking at simple forms of state tree pruning to allow nodes to reduce their storage size without having to delete the DB and fast sync from scratch. This should increase processing time indirectly.
The main debate in the hard fork discussions is whether to implement EIP 158 with section 2 or with (1c) (there is little value in doing both). The two carry different risks; section 2 is more complex from an in-EVM consensus standpoint, whereas (1c) requires more substantial re-architectures in other areas of geth to implement, as iterating through all accounts is not a use case that needed to be supported in all nodes before.
We are considering adding replay protection, likely either EIP 155 or a simpler trick involving using the upper bits of the tx nonce as a chain ID, but nothing is yet finalized.

yes i also agree with you that it is the best time to buy Ethereum as most of the people are holding their bitcoin for the price increase, so the Ethereum price is a little stable, but hope that its price will skyrocket with in few months, therefore the best option is to buy more and more Ethereum and if you have it already then you should hold it for the price increase.

The Ethereum price is quite low at present. But that is becasue it is still under attack and need another fork.

Yes this time is the right time to buy ether becuase this coins have potential i remember the last higher price of ether is 19$ so this time make a buy and keep it because i know that the price hit again the higher price or much higher than before.

Buy.
The amount of placed FUD against ETH is at its peak right now, this is usually always the case some days before it really goes up and up.

So the price of the ETH is at its lowest level for a few weeks. When the tide turns, the price will rise a lot.

I think the tide is turning. It might rise against the bitcoin in the next few weeks together with other coins.

It is a very open secret that technology advances with the flow of the time and so will ETH so I think it is useless to keep on calling the technology dead because it is still having the great market cap and nice number of people ready to invest.

I think, for now it's a good time to buy because ethereum prices are currently so low that you can buy at a cheap price and we know that ethereum prices will definitely be able to recover

It is already peak to buy ethereum. It is already at a very low price so everyone can expect a good return of their money once the price kicked up already. So it is not the time to sell but the time to accumulate more.

I think that this moment is not good either for shopping or for sale Ethereum.
It is still possible 50/50 that the price will go up or down. We have to wait until the price calms down and stabilizes.

Ether is a very strong project, but I do not think that now is a good time to invest in it. The development team are doing everything possible to restore the price of Ether.

I think it is good time to start buying slowly on each dip as the market is going down and any time it can go up.

Now is the exact time to buy eth. This is a great coin at a great price. After 1 month, the price of the yep will rise and those who don't buy now will regret it later. Think calm and balanced and don't panic.

this is the right time to buy as many altcoin etheras as possible. I think this is the worst time that happened to Ether. if you all have big funds, then don't waste your time now. buy as much as possible because this is the right time to buy it.

Don't sell now because obviously you will get a loss. you better be patient and wait for the market to be able to return. because now the price has dropped dramatically in my opinion and not a suitable time to sell

For example, I not see quite a future for him now, the developers have forgotten it, they create unnecessary forks. And what the next renaming or merging with one of these coins, I do not understand their policies, ruin what should have been the main coin.

Is it mean that today is not a good time to buy more ETH?  ;) Now ETH is ambiguous project. I'm sure that team will make changes to restore own influence after ICO scam wave. But when it will happen I don't know. I think Constantinople will not change this state

Nothing can be sure at this moment. When the price of ETH was $200, everyone also shouted that this is the end of the downturn and this is the best time to buy. Unfortunately, it turned out that the price could fall even more. I think that we should stop predicting until next year.
