Post by: Rmcdermott927 on July 12, 2016, 05:05:12 PM
Cryptocracy Physical Bitcoins

Edit: Suspending sales for a little while.  It was found that the majority of sets above #50 are incorrectly engraved.   Attempting replacement.

3 Metal Tones: Polished Gold, Polished Silver and Black Nickel

100 of each metal tone will be produced.

Numbered 1-100 in each tone (sets available)

Engraved Public and Private Keys with tamper evident hologram over the private key.

Sold unfunded.

Cost: $23 each or $60 per matching set of 3 coins.

Edit 8/6/16: Coins will ONLY be sold as sets as each number in the set has a matching key.  I.E. #1 in gold silver, and black will all have the same key.

Can someone reserve me a set of those new coins....#25 if possible.
Couldn't get any more information out of him, he's afk. Would you mind temporarily saving these for mj until he says otherwise?

Edit: Thanks Rm :)

Will these be marked as funded or not funded?   Numbered?  What does "100 of 2^160" mean?

They will be numbered 1-100

2^160 is the number of possible bitcoin addresses. just for symbolism on the coin.

If people show interest, I will order a second batch of holos marked funded.

I worked out the 2^160 a couple of mins after seeing the pics :)
I'm interested in prefunding, but they would need to be third partied to me in the UK to avoid.. well you know.

Do you mean for the hologram x-ray issue?   I am still not decided, I will either be ordering holos that are silver lined, or get a small metal insert for under the hologram.   I have requested samples of the silver lined holos that I should have sometime next week.

What protection does your hologram offer against x-ray?

I'm finally able to definitively answer your question as I ordered the holograms today.   They will be 2 mil silverized holograms that will protect against this.

I mentioned this in your auction thread, I noticed all sets have identical BTC addresses.
Now it doesn't mean that everyone will fund the coins however even if sold empty someone may want to do that at a later date by themselves, as a present or something.

The problem I can see is that you also sell them as singles not only sets. So potentially someone may be sharing private keys with someone else.
I got sets anyway, just in case :)

Well.   I am actually incredibly glad you noticed that.  This was not how it was planned or was supposed to be.    I have not yet sold coins individually and I am glad.   The coins came in 3 boxes, with each color separated.   I checked that each box had different addresses and that the keys matched.   However I neglected to check the boxes against each other.

I am removing the option to buy coins individually.   And will add this info to the OP.

Glad to be of help. I do like your coins. I think the black nickel option is really nice. :)
And BTW this is the first (I think) coin with matching addresses. :)

While we're at it, how are hologram numbers determined?
Obviously set XX got the holograms #XX, but how are the first numbers determined?
I've seen 0,1,2,3 on different finishes, is it random?

Title: Re: [ANN] Cryptocracy Physical Bitcoins - Limited Run - 100 Of Each Type
Post by: coin@coin on August 06, 2016, 02:49:20 AM
Oh yes you are right, they are different numbers per different colors.

It should be something like

Ideally 3 set x 100 coins each should be numbered as set #1:

001-100 (Gold)
101-200 (Silver)
201-300 (Black)

Set #1 is: 001-201-301
Set #27 is: 027-227-327

But different colors have different first numbers.

One reason for the funny numbering could be some of the holograms were not perfect or wrongly applied (had to be removed) so there were no matching numbers for the whole series.

Set #27 is numbered as the series finishes with number 400 (327).
Set #1 is numbered as the series finishes with number #300 (201)

Set #27 is: 027-227-327
Set #01 is 001-101-201
Set #27 is 227-027-327
(That is according to the pictures above, as you can see, the order is kinda mixed up)

I've seen 0,1,2,3 on different finishes, is it random?

That's an easy one.

Unless there is an error in hologram application, for example, I mess up the hologram peeling it off of the roll, or it falls on the ground before I apply it, they will go like this:

001-100 gold
101-200 silver
201-300 black nickel

However I ordered 2 extra sets of holograms so they are numbered 1-500.  In all cases the last 2 of the hologram will match the last 2 digits of the serial of the coin.  The only current set that is not in the above sequence is #27.  I intend on keeping #27 for myself so it was essentially hologram application practice.

Also, I imagine most will want to keep the sets they ordered, but if the matched addresses bothers anyone, just let me know and we will work something out.  I am pretty reasonable.

So, 3 coins, but they all share the same private/public key?  So, you fund one, you're not funding the coin, but the "set of coins".  ???  Please explain why you did this.  I will definitely not be funding them now.  What are my options for 3 different private addresses (not just public)?

As I said, it was most certainly not intentional.  Which is why if anyone is unhappy about the 1 address per set, I can work something out with them.   The coins were supposed to have 1 address for EACH coin, not each set.   I obviously can not sell them individually now which hugely stinks for me.   But, I guess its not the end of the world.

i would like to ask a security question .. ( apart the fact the same public & private keys are engraved on each same coins of a  set..)

-do you engrave public and private keys by yourself on the coins ?    ::)
( cause if not, it could be a serious security issue to give a key list for engraving , to any mint...)
( wich is certainly not a real issue if coins are bought  only as collectors coins , and not used as a cold storage.. )

Yeah the other issue is if the set is sold and say the owner wants to auction off two out of the three coins, they could potentially steal the Bitcoin loaded on the set after selling them as "loaded".

Indeed a very weird predicament.

The coins were engraved by the company who struck the coin.

Well, this is certainly an interesting situation, and one that has not come up before.
Good job spotting this before any individual coins were sold, coin@coin.

I was actually planning on getting Set 100 Funded with something like 0.05BTC each, and keeping it for myself.
Knowing now that the same addresses and private keys are engraved on all 3 coins in the set, I will not be doing this. Anything loaded on them will be on all 3 coins anyway.

I am glad you didn't sell any individual coins yet, that could have been disastrous..

I presume that because of this, no one would recommend funding these anyway, as the keys could be compromised? ( this is just a question :) )

I will have a think on what to do Rmcdermott927. I won't be asking for a refund as I personally like the coins, and feel they are worth the $60 I have paid for each set.
The public addresses being the same on all 3 coins in the set is a bit of an issue though.

There's not much I can do.   I think many will opt to keep the sets.   If anyone doesn't want it, that's ok too.  I can't change anything now, other than learn my lessons for series 2.    I will only sell the coins as sets so no one has the same address as anyone else.

If anyone is upset, I apologize for the issue as I truly didn't realize.

If anyone gets a hold of your credit card and places unauthorized charges, the credit card will reverse those.  Not so with Bitcoin.

I actually like the black nickel finish best (at least that's from what I could see in pictures, it might change once I got my set in hands, but so far).
I think it's something refreshing and (at least yet) unique. Would love to see more coins with a similar (or another not so popular) finish.

I agree.  The black is my favorite also.  I'm definitely going to try a few things in the future along those lines.   There are quite a few different finishes as options so I am going to find what else will look good.

A carbon black would look good or even a carbon fiber effect version would be worth looking at too.

I will only be taking set #14 as I'd like to add this to my collection. If anyone wants it #15 is now available.
I will post pics when I get them.

I do like the nickel black option not sure if there has ever been a coin with that finish before.
On another note this is also the first time a coin set comes with one BTC address/PrivKey.

I do understand some people may not like that, and of course need to be careful if some try to resell single coins, and private keys were handled by the mint.
However this doesn't necessarily mean the mint actually knows what the private keys are for and/or they will be dishonest. But better be safe than sorry.
I wasn't going to fund them anyway, as many other coins I see being sold on the forum, if they came as DIY or unfunded, I never seen one that was funded by the buyer.

For collection purposes this is rather unique (in my humble opinion), coins look great, a nice first ever black option, something different from all other coins... although unexpected.
The OP also mentioned this was a mistake, being the first coin production and all, maybe miscommunication with the mint side (not sure).
He has also been very accommodating and open, lucky this was discovered before any single coin was sold. And for $60 per set it's cheaper than many others.

These should be considered error coins maybe? What do you guys think? I'm happy to have them in my collection nevertheless. (Looking fwd to get them)

I'm aware there will be a new series so looking fwd to that, with the lesson learned I would expect something interesting. ;)

My set arrived today. I must say, they have a higher production quality than what I was expecting for a first release.  I like how they are slightly oversized and are nice and heavy in my hand.  Now I just need to find some airtites to keep them safe.  Looking forward to seeing what you come out with next.

Thanks for the feedback.   I am really glad you like them.    I love hearing things ike this about my coins, it definitely makes the work put into it worth it!

In other news, I am going to be taking a few sets of the cryptocracy series 1 coins and making them into something very special.   They will be 2 consecutively numbered set, with a padlock.   Engraved on the padlock will be a 2 of 2 multisig address.

1 coin from each set will be attached to a keyring which in turn will be attached to a key that opens the padlock.

I have not 100% decided on the exact details.   I will likely only produce 2 or 3 these to be sold as collectors sets.   With that being said, if there is anyone that potentially like a lock that has only 1 set included, and provide their own public key for the second address on a multisig address, feel free to contact me.

Pictures and more info to follow.   I expect the 2 Cryptocracy set / padlock collectors sets to be about 0.5 BTC as they are relatively expensive and use materials sourced from multiple locations.    I am working out the final details today.

The slabs i used for the genesis series 2 would work.  I believe they are 3mm thick (the coins) generally the thickness of military challenge coins, check airtite challenge coin capsules

maybe if you place something underneath the coin and sit it up closer to top edge it will be less noticable but it does look fine in this photo

Just a quick update on the multi sig lock / key special edition.

I have decided to make it super unique.   I will only make 1.   I hope to have photos ready for the first week of September.  I wound up putting a lot of extra time, money and detail into it so I don't want to ruin the surprise until I actually have it complete.
