Title: Free silver quarters
Post by: SilverBull on March 24, 2013, 05:46:01 AM
I want to give away 5 silver Canadian quarters.

If you want a free silver quarter just post here saying why silver is important to you in the future. In a week I will choose 5 people and send them their quarter.

I am doing this because I want to promote silver awareness and start people off on their stacks.

I have always been interested in silver, and have been wanting to get into collecting silver coins. I have done the same with bitcoins, made a small investment into it and I really enjoy watching the price jump and fall thoughout time. I feel like it might be the same as silver and gold. Basically I want to expand my portfolio to include many other things. First in small amounts, and if I enjoy it I will continue to expand.

That is why Silver is important to me in the future :)

I have been collecting coins since I was 5.  I think it is fun to go through change when given it by a cashier and look at the dates on each coin to see if you got lucky and found a silver piece.  After checking dates, anything that isnt of higher value gets put aside, and I have been doing this for 17 years.  My plan is to take all the bullion and cash it in to buy the love of my life a wedding ring in a year or two.

I also enjoy on occasion going to banks and buying circulated rolls of half dollars and going through them and taking the silver ones out.  Nickels are fun too but a little more time consuming.

I do not own any precious metals yet, but foreign and rare coins have always interested me. Also, I would like to begin collecting silver as I believe its value will only increase and is cheaper to begin buying than gold  ;D

I think silver will decrease in value unless the world finally goes into the greatest depression yet. It was under $10/ozt for most of my life until GWB, 9/11, and Obama fucked everything up.

It's a very kind gesture of you. Who wouldn't want to own such a beautiful item? Also, with the way things are going with banks at the moment why should anyone trust them with their savings? More people will begin to invest in precious metals and the price will rise. Now is probably a very good time to start collecting and a solid silver Canadian quarter would be a fine way to start anyone's collection. Send the coin to me and I will try to add a silver coin from each country to it until I have a silver coin from as many countries as I can collect. I'll post you a picture every time I get a new one. It will be good fun and a great thing to pass on to my sons.

I have two British Silver Sixpences, very rare, which were a wedding gift from my Grandmother last year.

This caused me to wonder why coins were no longer made using silver, but rather cupro-nickel. I realise now that the answer is obvious, but it did lead me to realise the excellent investment nature of silver.

Since then I have been set on building an investment stack of coin, using BTC, but to date have not mined enough to get started yet! My GPU is frankly rubbish and my only foray in to ASICS, a BFL jalepeno, is looking like a bust :/

I believe that if the long game is played any investment in Silver is a smart one and would really appreciate it if you decided to help me get started on the road to a nice Silver retirement pot :)

I would like one of these coins because of the rising fiat instabilities that are occurring around the world, in Greece, Cyprus, and many other places besides. The silver content of the coin will help insulate me from fiat issues. At this point, there are three things that make good sense as an investment: Gold, Bitcoin, and Silver. These instruments are protected against inflation by their limited nature. They thus are logical choices for investment.
I also want it as a collector of coins, as older pieces are one area that I find of particular interest. Some of the stories behind them can be far greater in worth than the coin itself. In fact, once most physical currency dies out, the value of the currency's remnants is valued based in part on the story behind it. A denarius found in Pompeii is likely to be worth more than one found in Rome, because of the eruption of Vesuvius.
Lastly, I wish to echo the words of Aztec: Thank you for the kind gesture.

I researched both silver and bitcoin for investing / long term savings starting at the same time last year in October. Since then, I've daily checked several websites for news/knowledge on both. They really interested me and I bought some 90% and 4 ASEs in December and tried to buy some bitcoin also at that time, but the moneypak/bitinstant (only way to purchase around me) operator at the CVS wasn't understandable and the balance showed up incorrect at the register so I cancelled when they were around $14 /BTC  :(

I strongly believe the current economic system the world has been forced to run on of fractional reserve banking and overly abused fiat inflationary policies to devalue the (debt but actually the) wealth/buying power of the working class of entire nations is completely unsustainable. Physical Silver, just like Bitcoin, appeals to me with it's non-inflationary nature which is what people deserve to have the ability to save the fruits of their labor in and with its very personalized and direct control by the individual.

Plus, the silver coins have exxcellent artwork and it's shiny  :P

I have a lack of silver in my possession aka none. Having a silver coin would simply get me more interested in it, I would look into it further and pay attention to the price of silver. I know people are saying the price is going down but that's not what I heard!

I've been thinking about buying some silver myself, lately.

The idea of having silver appeals to me, because if I'm going to save money in this buying commodities type of manner that I seem to have started doing, then I should have something that's pretty much guaranteed to be stable as well.

It seems silver is used in lots of modern devices and I foresee a continued need for it in the future. It's been trusted for thousands of years as a currency.

Honestly, now that I think about it, I'm probably going to eventually buy silver either way, so you should probably send the quarter to someone else :P

I have two Ben Franklin half dollars: One is a 1961, and the other one is 1958. I also have three Walking Liberty half dollars: They are very worn and as best as I can tell the dates are - 1920, 1929, and one unreadable. Upon further investigation, I have learned that my two Eisenhower dollars are not sliver. I also have a few more none silver coins that have zero silver content, but I still keep for their sentimental value. Like coins from my family members birth years, and coins that are not silver, but not widely circulated anymore (a few Kennedy 1/2 dollars one a Bicentennial!).

I've had these coins sitting in a cut glass bowl for years - it's only added to when I am lucky and find a coin. Soon I would like to start adding silver dimes, nickles, and silver grams (these are in my low wage price range). Recently because of my financial circumstances, and my increased interest/awareness in silver I have started to educate myself about silver and sliver coins. I have found the websites http://www.coinflation.com and http://www.silvergrambars.com/calculator to be particularly helpful.

I would love to have a Silver Canadian Quarter as my 6th sliver coin!

I've always liked silver coins, because of the ring they make when struck gently.  Musical.  I like how silver is photon sensitive in its nitrate form, makes me wonder if silver metal itself is watching me ;)

A Canadian silver quarter would be nice for my wife, she emigrated from Canada here to UK to join me just after we met but sadly after only one year needed major heart surgery and is now disabled after stroke complications. Lucky I suppose it happened here in UK where treatment and her care costs are free due to my having paid NI contributions all my life. Incidentally she has a 1943 Canadian silver dollar which here father left her in his will.

Silver is only produced when stars explode!  There's a relatively limited quantity of it here on Earth, and it is used for a wide variety of applications ranging from thermoelectric conductors to cloud seeding.  Besides these things that give it inherent value, it has been used as currency and precious jewelry for thousands of years.  Modern mining techniques and its removal from circulation in many currencies have made silver a relative bargin these days.

I'm acutely aware of the monetary value of silver because I work with dental amalgams.  A few ounces of the silver containing amalgam "waste" can be recycled for thousands of dollars.

Western demographic crisis + Peak Oil + Financial crisis (deficit monetization or state defaults+banking crisis) = stagflation -> hoarding silver/gold/bitcoins
This picture is controversial, but people pay for insurances against events much more unlikely to happen.

Silver is grossly undervalued as it is being manipulated by many of the large banks and central banks around the world.  It has more industrial uses than gold and as a result, above ground stores are being depleted as not enough silver is mined to keep up with demand.  I believe that silver is poised for a huge breakout in price.  Just saying.

I'll be happy to take one of those silver quarters. :)

Id really like some silver as Id like to get into investing and this would be a really good first step for me. I may not be an expert but Im motivated in getting involved and promoting the idea of investing in things like this. I reckon silver is the dark horse as well as gold is way too pricey and overvalued(in my opinion), so people might start turn to silver as the more viable option.

Thanks :)

Personally, I believe that the true value of an old silver quarter is worth far more for it's historical value than for it's monetary value.

That being said, I also strongly believe that precious metals will only grow in value as the fiat currencies show the nadir of their intrinsic weakness. Therefore, in my opinion, silver will indeed, remain a very important part of trade in the future.

It is very generous of you to hold such a giveaway.

Congratulations on your endeavours.

Long term silver and BTC should be great.

They just need patience and time, and understanding to realise that markets go up and down for reasons other than fundamentals.

Owning a few silver coins makes people take notice, and learn to ride the dips.

Silver was a basis for countries currency that had value in the metal itself, we did not have to believe in GOD or in the system or scheme that issued the silver currency only in the weight of the silver content in the coin.

Paper money started to be issued to make it easier to trade and do business as each paper dollar was essentially an IOU from the issuer that certified there was on deposit a specific weight of silver in a vault and the paper slip "legal tender" "payable on demand" "redeemable in lawful money" "pay to the bearer on demand" were some of the clues on the paper showing that it itself was nothing any more than a deposit slip.

Countries then realized that people eventually lost paper money or paper got destroyed and would never be redeemed for the actual silver on deposit, so the govts realized they could with certainty that a percentage of the paper would never be redeemed and the remaining silver would default to them.

Then the big banksters created the federal reserve in the USA where people with allot of gold and silver could deposit those funds into ft knox and then they were allowed to print their own money ie FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE and no longer TREASURY NOTES, anyhow when they were allowed to issue FEDERAL RESERVE NOTES they only had to put on deposit with FT KNOX 40% and there begins the downfall of the fractional reserve banking system.

There currently is no fixed exchange rate for DOLLARS into anything other than themselves. And now when the govt needs money instead of having to deposit a commodity of anything they simply add a few 000 to a spreadsheet someplace and they are rich. Also when the Treasure Auctions off TBills, the FED now purchases them, ie putting money in one pocket and loaning it to another and now they have more to spend... nice...

Something else to consider if you owned stock in a company say 100 shares of ford and ford does well and has a stock split because they need more shares to sell, if its 2 for 1 they have to give 2 shares of your old stock for each 1 share you have so the company doubles its outstanding shares and your shares double as well. In the case of the fed, they simply print more and spend it into existence creating more shares for themselves and you loose as they don't give you any extra.

The FIX is in and the consumer little people loose!

There is no definition of a dollar that is redemable for a fixed value of anything, the treasury makes up IOU's (tbills) then the FED buys them and gives the Treasury $$$ Bills they spend them in govt programs and dilute the pool of real money or buying power each time.

I think they should have denominated it in $1 = 10 lbs of rice or beans etc. anything is better than nothing.

Stock up on Silver, beans, and bullets

please send a quarter

Thank You

Very generous of you. I've been trading copper, and a some silver, since gold has become a rich man's game. Base metals like copper are going up in value as the dollar (and fiat currencies in general) continue to fail. The fed can't just throw some zeros into a computer and make metals, like they do with fiat currency.  ::)

i'll take a shot at this.

my father is a silver collector, and i wish to collect half as much information as he has about. it is always interesting to hear him talk about the history and significance of the coins, not to mention it will be a great safety net in case the dollar fails. i hope to tell my children about silver coins someday.

I was wondering if you knew the update of this?  I received a message saying you chose me and I gave you my address, but I have not received anything yet?

Silver and gold have always been, and will always be real money.  It doesn't matter if it's the ancient Egyptians, Americans in 2013, or a thousand years from now; precious metals will always be a sought after store of wealth.

Like others have said, Silver is an extremely important thing as it has a limited supply and therefore relatively stable price. While we may measure BTC against USD because USD seems stable, it really isn't as it has no set value in goods apart from what people decide that it is worth. BTC to silver would be better as silver has a stable price between currencies around the world

I want to give away 5 silver Canadian quarters.

If you want a free silver quarter just post here saying why silver is important to you in the future. In a week I will choose 5 people and send them their quarter.

I am doing this because I want to promote silver awareness and start people off on their stacks.

Back in the day (thinking 1960s and 1970s) 4 silver 90% Halves bought a tank of gas. Today, 4 silver 90% Halves buys a tank of gas. Additionally, unlike gold, silver is used in industry for electrical conductivity. Hence silver demand not only comes from consumers, but also business that require the metal for their own products and services. Silver is also antimicrobial, which is the reason it was and still is used for flatware, cups, and dinnerware.

I collect Morgan Dollars, and own many many other US silver coins, as well as international silver coinage. My kids love it and it has been a tool to teach them about money, as well as the intrinsic value of real coinage that still has value.

Whomever gets one of those silver quarters should appreciate the real value of what they have in their possession. Watch the science channel learn how the silver that they hold in their hand was one of many byproducts or a star going supernova.

For those who do not have silver, check it out. Don't buy into the Monex and commodity hype, as it is important to understand why silver can and always will be a precious commodity.

For some reason a couple of the packages were returned to me. I don't know why. I would send them again but the cost of postage is quickly outstripping the cost of the quarters.

I am going to figure out why they were returned to me and then try this again later.

Best way to get into silver is to find a reputable local coin shop and visit it weekly.  By one American Silver Eagle each week, and by the end of the year you'll have 50+ oz. of silver, and (hopefully) you will have established a reputation as a good and knowledgeable customer.  This will most likely pay off in the long run!   ;)

yeah, nice strategy. But a bit time consuming. Consider buying one kilo when the price is low... and then again when it gets even lower. Right now would be a good time to get into silver. I'm buying gold, silver and bitcoin :)
