Title: 8 hours
Post by: BitcoinTip on March 26, 2013, 05:16:58 PM
I'm not going to give you a reason.

I'm not going to post a chart.

All I have to say is this: Within the next 8 hours the price will crash.

I will give a reason and a chart.

Bitcoin will skyrocket.

Reason: $50 was a mental barrier, we held at $47 for a week. $75 was a mental barrier, we held just under $75 for 4 days. The next mental barrier is $100, expect it to reach $93 to $99 and bounce around for a bit. (I literally put a sell order in at $99 for half of my bitcoins knowing that this will certainly happen)

Chart:

You know, I hope this is real. What will inevitably happen after a few of these "planned" shake outs work the ring leader will get everyone to dump....only to buy all their coins leaving these dumpers to buy them back at more than they dumped.  The real fools that will be parted with their money are the ones dumping.

Again, that's assuming this is real which I doubt.

If OP can't even give a hint that will be obvious what it means "after the fact," this post is pointless.

Also, the price is riding a ways above its exponential trendline; a sharp drop in the next 8 hours is par for the course.

In short, time frame is too long, "crash" is undefined (60s? 50s? 30s? Teens?), so this post is meaningless. Only if the price goes under $50 should anyone take notice. Actually under $40 is more like it.

Title: Re: 8 hours

Of course the post is pointless, since he hasn't defined either what will cause the crash or what constitutes a crash, he can massage the OP after the fact to fit pretty much any set of circumstances at all.

It's unfalsifiable. It's like predicting the price will rise, then will fall, then will rise then will fall, sometime within the next week... then the genius makes a hash of that prediction and posts both!

But it gives us something else to do while we're not hard at work or watching the ticker.

Oh brother. This is probably complete BS. But we can be sure that volatility, sharp dips, and downtrends will be part of the Bitcoin road map in the coming years, even if we do go to 10,000 or more. It's not always going to be an easy stair step ride up where every dip is bought back within a few hours.

The thing is, even if it were true (and the possibility is pretty much less than remote) it's still BS. Since the quantities are unknown and the proposition isn't falsifiable in any way, the original post is meaningless.

Now, there is one element of this whole thing that is somewhat discernible. The original poster had two posts before the OP. In a forum where newbies are not allowed. That should tell us something about him (her), and his (her) motives.

I LOL'ed at the post earlier in this thread with the pastebin link to "weak-hands shakedown". The problem with traders alliances like that is that, at some point when Bitcoin is mainstream enough, maybe it is already because of the Fincen "endorsement", they are going to get subpoenaed by some angry hands for running a cartel which is illegal in the US.

I don't believe either that cartels are very strong alliances, as at some point one member will take advantage of the other members agreed upon behaviour and run with the money.

Not really. The exchanges have to follow strict rules. If a country no longer allows exchange but a site continues to do so they are violating the law and will be shut down.

Basically, think about what happens when a site is openly distributing copyrighted material and gets shut down, except a site like thepiratebay couldn't exist since the exchanges depend on bank accounts.

Some news will be put to light on national television. Wheels are in motion to ban bitcoin exchange in one country, and an international effort is also under way.

An international effort? That sounds like conspiracy garbage. Countries don't work together like that very easily, I don't think the UN is stepping in. Most don't given give a crap. The USA is currently passing laws to make btc LEGAL, not illegal, by creating anti laundering laws to apply to digital currency. BTC is just like a commodity, digital gold, if their stupid citizens feel the need to buy it, who cares. But the Illuminati probably aren't out to stop bitcoin.

Probably not going to happen.

I am privy to some information which none will believe until after the events have unfolded.

This is going to be a fun ride.

Hint: I work in media. I wont say more else my identity be compromised.

Yep, it had about as much impact back then as any "news" story would have about some politicians talking about cracking down on Bitcoin.

Everyone knows by now that the "National media" does not report news, they regurgitate shit that we all already know about online. If it is not yet on the Internet, the media does not know about it.

Ever heard of the Streisand effect?

This was kind of my thinking.  National television.

Hot damn, this is getting good!!!

Oh shit.  How will I spend my bitcoins when [exchange name] goes down in [fill in the country]?

The worst that could happen is "politicians in parliament are looking into how to crack down on Bitcoin".

If they had passed anything, we would have all known.

Politicians have been trying to crack down on Bitcoin ever since they have caught wind of it.

They do not realize that their cracking down is the exact reason why Bitcoin is winning.

This is just the same shit we had from 'Zyphus' and his friends last week. The post above with falso rumours should actually be moderated. Differing opinion is good. Purposely false rumours aren't...
But you can't know if they are false rumors before the events have played out. Also, we need someone to be BTC bears, there are enough BTC cheerleaders in here.
Do these 'cheerleaders' understand how Bitcoin works as well, and what roles Proof of Work, HashCash and the like or Public-key cryptography play in Bitcoin?

Differing opinion is good because free speech is good. Also don't treat this as a rumour but as an opinion, think for yourself, you have your own mind.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in BTCs and understand their potential but I think we need someone to be skeptical as well. Otherwise, we turn into a reality ignoring cult.

Also, I am tired of people yelling "FUD" whenever someone discusses potential threats against Bitcoins.

Agree, but I think this crosses the line from "skeptical" to "nefarious". If BTC were stocks (and fortunately it is not, but still...), this kind of posting would be illegal.

Isn't the purpose of bitcoin to escape the government enforcement and regulation? In for a penny, in for a pound.

Agreed, but that's why idiots like the OP should pay a price in ill-concealed laughter and ridicule.

Won't do much good, as he obviously created this fake profile just for the purposes of this thread.

Some news will be put to light on national television. Wheels are in motion to ban bitcoin exchange in one country, and this may spread internationally.

I heard an asteroid was headed straight for the internet.

:Golf clap:

Actually, apparently a kind-of asteroid has indeed crashed into the internet:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21954636

Though I can't say I've noticed any slowing down today. And BTC still keeps going up.

Sad. No word about cloudflare , they help spamhaus in defending against this attack.
