but if it's only just warn and not having a heavy punishment it's fine to keep using Title: Re: Post by: Jeremycoin on August 26, 2016, 12:53:59 PM I think I will still use Bitcoin even tho my government says that it's illegal, and I also will use a tor browser or VPN to do that.
And maybe if I already have a lot of Bitcoin, I would even move to another country so that I can live calmly with my Bitcoin. Title: Re: Post by: shield132 on August 26, 2016, 12:56:46 PM Well, at first there is much things illegal but everyone is doing it, for example torrent sites.
I will continue to use bitcoins even if it will be illegal in my country but in different way. And remember that there isn't any safest way to hide your acitivity in internet, no vpn and no proxy can help you, if goverment wants to find you or your activity. Title: Re: Post by: Lauda on August 26, 2016, 01:05:55 PM I don't think your government is going to make Bitcoin illegal anytime soon, especially not if they've already legalized it in some form. Bitcoin is pseduo-anonymous, so regulating it makes it much easier in comparison to altcoins that provide more anonymity. Coins such as Monero are likely to become illegal. That being said, I would still continue to use Bitcoin without any alterations. If the traditional system wasn't as flawed as it is, there would practically be no need for such coins (decentralization wise).
Note: Please lock this thread after it has reached a sufficient number of answers. Otherwise, it will turn into a 'rephrasing contest' by spammers. Title: Re: Post by: Herbert2020 on August 26, 2016, 01:08:19 PM As we know, some country banned bitcoin and it's illegal to use/own bitcoin there. But, i see some people who still use bitcoin even they know the risk. do you have any list of the countries that are "confirmed" to have banned bitcoin. to answer your question. i think i will continue using bitcoin, the only difference that would make for me is that it will cost me a VPN subscription. but i will continue using bitcoin especially in trading altcoins. Title: Re: Post by: diegz on August 26, 2016, 01:09:20 PM I have a question at this, how would government ban bitcoin? how will they know that you are holding bitcoin? If they know that, I think they are violating your privacy or one of your right, except if bitcoin will be a threat to national security ... With that, I think I will still continue to use even if it is going to be banned if the only reason is it is not being regulated by the government..
Title: Re: Post by: vasrasus on August 26, 2016, 01:17:59 PM If its illegal then better to quit. But if chances occur that bitcoin being illegal but does not have a big punishment then better still try hoping that somehow it will benefit me more or I will gain more than the penalty needs. Still hoping that it not banned in our country .
Title: Re: Post by: eternalgloom on August 26, 2016, 01:24:29 PM I would probably still use Bitcoin, but I would certainly take some precautions like making sure that I'm completely anonymous when accessing my wallet and sending coins etc.
The one thing I would probably stop doing is converting Bitcoin into fiat, that wouldn't be too safe anymore, even if you do it just by outting it on a anonymous prepaid Mastercard. Title: Re: Post by: rababo on August 26, 2016, 03:17:22 PM It will depends on the banning regulations. If using bitcoin in internet and real life can make us put on jail, then I won't take a risk, I'll leave bitcoin. But if bitcoin is banned when used in real life only, then I'll still use bitcoin in internet only.
Title: Re: Post by: tyz on August 26, 2016, 03:30:26 PM Well, to be honest, this would be the moment to exchange of big part of my money into Gold and Bitcoin when it comes to the point where owning or trading Bitcoin willl be called illegal in my country. Usually, such bans are imposed when something is economically going wrong.
Title: Re: Post by: hasiramasenju on August 26, 2016, 03:46:47 PM i would not expect it to happen but if someday my country considers bitcoin illegal i think i won't use bitcoin any longer
because it's too risky for my life and i don't want to get in jail because of bitcoin Title: Re: Post by: BitcoinSupremo on August 26, 2016, 04:04:10 PM As long tools to use bitcoin still exist like TOR and VPN-s or a Linux distribution with electrum on it I would just need to install electrum on my Pc once save the seed to some USB and anytime I want to use bitcoin I will load the tails live CD/DVD system and restore the wallet from the electrum there. All the transactions are done in TOR browser on Tails and this means my identity is safe. As simple as that.
Title: Re: Post by: StingrayX on August 26, 2016, 04:18:14 PM I answered " what is government " because as a teenager who lived in a country governed by dirty dying old politicians who look at the new generation as a threat to their depressing system, I used from my childhood to revolute to their oppression and I don't wait for any good change from them :
They banned YouTube : we use proxy They banned social networks : we use the Tor browser They don't give us access to international cards : we use Bitcoin and other ways They ban Bitcoin (after understanding what is it) : we will find a way to throw their pow papers and continue to use it ;) Title: Re: Post by: amacar2 on August 26, 2016, 04:19:40 PM Yes i will use bitcoin till it survive and i think it will survive till i die. Whatever restrictions government will have on bitcoin, even if they block excess to bitcoin online wallets i will use desktop wallets, or access online wallets via TOR.
Title: Re: Post by: densuj on August 26, 2016, 04:25:37 PM I think i will keep use bitcoin ( using tor, vpn or safety way ) although the government says bitcoin is illegal, because i use bitcoin is just for making investment (trading altcoins) and i don't use bitcoin for another activity. I hope it is not happening.
Title: Re: Post by: Cereberus on August 26, 2016, 04:29:13 PM I answered " what is government " because as a teenager who lived in a country governed by dirty dying old politicians who look at the new generation as a threat to their depressing system, I used from my childhood to revolute to their oppression and I don't wait for any good change from them : They banned YouTube : we use proxy They banned social networks : we use the Tor browser They don't give us access to international cards : we use Bitcoin and other ways They ban Bitcoin (after understanding what is it) : we will find a way to throw their pow papers and continue to use it ;) Are you talking about Turkey as this is the only country in the world which has banned youtube so far to my knowledge. They banned social networks after some revolts happened there. What ever they try to do they cannot oppress you as long as you have bitcoin. Now it remains only one thing which needs to be cleared here and that is how will you convert bitcoin in cash and receive it since the government has made so much restrictions. The only way is to sell bitcoin locally but that is very dangerous given the situation described by you. Title: Re: Post by: hubballi on August 26, 2016, 04:30:07 PM How can we use the bitcoin if the government states bitcoin as illegal in our country, then it becomes like using drugs when all country are banning. I wont use it , but i will avoid it and what ever account i am holding in will close everything or else i have to change the country of residing where bitcoin is acceptable
Title: Re: Post by: Fatanut on August 26, 2016, 04:30:58 PM I think it's okay to not obey the rules sometimes especially if you know how to hide your identity. With a simple VPN, you can cover your IP address, you just have to look out for people that might somehow be crazy enough to report you to the police because of the use of Bitcoins.
I see no reason as to why would the government will make bitcoins illegal unless they are so desperate to get every single tax from their citizens. Bitcoin is very essential and it allows me to get money without doing much physical effort. So yes, I will surely still use Bitcoin but I'll be really cautious. Title: Re: Post by: Snorek on August 26, 2016, 04:39:52 PM How can we use the bitcoin if the government states bitcoin as illegal in our country, then it becomes like using drugs when all country are banning. I wont use it , but i will avoid it and what ever account i am holding in will close everything or else i have to change the country of residing where bitcoin is acceptable Haven't you ever wonder why some things are legal and some are banned? For example alcohol is much worse than some drugs (marijuana) and is perfectly legal in every western country. You need to think for yourself and understand second nature of some laws. Do you seriously think bitcoin ban would be beneficial and honest law? Title: Re: Post by: Ayers on August 26, 2016, 04:59:30 PM no i'll keep using it, mining is anonymous enough it's not that easy to find someone mining with few gpu, you can also buy from private outside your country to avoid trouble, but you also mean that they will arrest you if you are caught? like in venezuela?
Title: Re: Post by: dinda22 on August 26, 2016, 05:12:09 PM in my country bitcoin illegal, but for me it was just a greeting and the state is not really serious to prohibit all circulation bitcoin. even now in my country, there are some places that could use bitcoin for transactions. I also still use bitcoin until now without any blocking of government.
Title: Re: Post by: xdrpx on August 26, 2016, 05:23:30 PM Honestly it would be tough for the Government to trace the source of the Bitcoins to my personal identity until and unless I don't trade or exchange it through an authorized exchange that takes my KYC details and tax details. I'd love to still use localbitcoins to exchange if I ever needed to. Apart from that I'd also doubt it'd be illegal to use in my country presently.
Title: Re: Post by: gentlemand on August 26, 2016, 05:29:07 PM If it was outlawed where I'm at then it would become useless to me and I'd abandon it. I use it for buying stuff and saving. I'd have to wait a few decades for a BTC closed loop to develop before it was any use for me again.
And I don't get people who use the outlawing = sexy analogy. People are going to do drugs no matter what their legal status because it makes them feel good. I use Bitcoin for its utility. Outlawing it removes that utility almost completely and no one else I interact with is going to want it either. Title: Re: Post by: dc1a0 on August 26, 2016, 05:31:44 PM Yes, I probably would continue to keep and try to accumulate/use bitcoin. For the simple reason that I trust bitcoin more than I trust my government. Though, to be fair, at that point, I probably would also be investing in lead, sulfur, saltpeter, and maybe wood.
Title: Re: Post by: salmanahmedone on August 26, 2016, 05:41:48 PM no i'll keep using it, mining is anonymous enough it's not that easy to find someone mining with few gpu, you can also buy from private outside your country to avoid trouble, but you also mean that they will arrest you if you are caught? like in venezuela? The advantage of bitcoin is that even if the government ban it in your country, you can still use it online. No one can ban bitcoin and hopefully it will be legalized very soon globally. Title: Re: Post by: harizen on August 26, 2016, 05:48:23 PM As we know, some country banned bitcoin and it's illegal to use/own bitcoin there. But, i see some people who still use bitcoin even they know the risk. So, would you keep use Bitcoin if government says bitcoin is illegal in your country? Even if they could spy you on internet? If that really happened my country (i hope it won't happen), i would still use bitcoin, but i would use tor browser and paid/trusted VPN to do any bitcoin activity. More info (might be not up to date) : 1. Legality of bitcoin by country (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country) Since I entered bitcoin world, still the info listed under my county hasn't changed but it doesn't make sense at all for me in the first palce. Anyways on-topic, I will still use bitcoin although all services that I want will now be wrecked. If ever bitcoin will become illegal here in my country, all local exchanger will shut down their services hence converting bitcoin to fiat will now become a hassle one. And aside from that, local exchangers here has some services that we can able to use our bitcoin directly by any means. It will also be gone once bitcoin will become prohibited here in my country. Title: Re: Post by: electronicash on August 26, 2016, 05:51:29 PM This will depend whether its just bitcoin. if using other altcoin is still legal, i guess i won't stop still.
I'd probably just hide or use my laptop to connect to some other wifi connection maybe on the coffee shop and form there i will do my bitcoin transactions. Title: Re: Post by: Junko on August 26, 2016, 06:18:08 PM Yes, if the government of my country made bitcoin illegal, I would definitely continue to hodl, accumulate and use it. I don't want to end up like those in Cyprus who had their money locked up and were left at the mercy of their government as far as their money was concerned if something similar happened in my country.
Title: Re: Post by: neochiny on August 26, 2016, 08:15:13 PM If it does get declared as illegal, I will probably stop. I am not gonna take a chance and get caught, especially since our President's quite scary. : Duterte : Also, once it gets declared as illegal, it'll be difficult to use, especially for payments, selling into fiat, etc. What would I do with it if I can't actually buy anything here. (since local coin exchange will close.) I am not gonna pay costly international delivery fees.
Anyway, not gonna take a chance with our President. Title: Re: Post by: Kprawn on August 26, 2016, 08:47:14 PM Well, one of the things you could do, is to safe up some Bitcoins for work you do, and then go for a holiday of a life time, in a country where it is accepted. The nice thing is, you can cross borders with
any amount of Bitcoin, without having to declare a bunch of fiat/cash. You can enter these other countries and exchange Bitcoin for cash and you set to go. You can buy your accommodation and pay for your transport from the comfort of your house, and nobody will know. It gives you some freedom, not offered with other options out there.. ::) Title: Re: Post by: jvper on August 26, 2016, 08:58:14 PM I wouldn't use bitcoin if its usage was illegal. But I'd still hold some. Holding wouldn't be illegal, would it?
Title: Re: Post by: Yakamoto on August 26, 2016, 09:03:50 PM I would probably keep using Bitcoin in my country even if it was outlawed, because that would probably mean that the government is starting to flex some of their powers and, if it is coupled with other events throughout the world, it might mean that there is something else going on behind the scenes and something might be coming up and brewing within the geopolitical climate. That is something that would be an incredibly scary event (in the right conditions, for me anyways).

Title: Re: Post by: LTU_btc on August 26, 2016, 10:42:13 PM If bitcoin in my country would become illegal, I would continue to use it. Our government is too stupid to track who is using bitcoins. They earlier tried to disable acsess of sports betting websites which not registered in our country, but everyone know how to reach such websites. Government have plans to block torrent websites, but we are laughing at they plans. So, if they would ban bitcoin, I can't imagine how would catch bitcoin users.
Title: Re: Post by: RoseMann on August 26, 2016, 10:46:01 PM The government can eat a dick they can't ban Bitcoin, the public rose up when they tried heavy internet censorship too
Title: Re: Post by: countryfree on August 26, 2016, 11:11:15 PM I'm really surprised by the results. I have changed countries several times and I don't consider the banning of BTC as a valid reason to move. I'll just keep on using BTC illegally. Considering I've been working illegally in 8 different countries so far, I don't see that as a big deal.
Governments cannot control everything. They've never controlled me. Title: Re: Post by: LordCoder on August 26, 2016, 11:22:59 PM Yes, probably yes. Government cannot control that, they can just ban the servers running Bitcoin Core, and that'd be privacy violation so I guess not. Afaik it'd be the first "software" banned.
Title: Re: Post by: squatz1 on August 26, 2016, 11:34:21 PM I'd use it but I'd make sure I would he hiding my ass at all points to make sure that I wasen't caught at all. I'd really take a lot of balls to do such a thing though
Title: Re: Post by: xuan87 on August 26, 2016, 11:43:20 PM That is a really hard question, if i keep continue using it i will become a criminal, if i stop using then i dont get the extra money, but if that happen i think i will stop using it, eventhough bitcoin is hard to track but its going to be hard to spend and sneaking doing things illegally is very dangerous thing in my country

Right now I have nothing to do with the government at all as far as Bitcoin goes. The only thing they can hit me with is that they force banks to stop allowing/processing any kind of Bitcoin related transactions. If that at some day will happen, then I must think out how I can deal with it. One way is to buy and sell Bitcoin peer 2 peer here in my area. That way there is no need for banks at all.
Title: Re: Post by: rio3233 on August 26, 2016, 11:59:43 PM Yes, i would keep use bitcoin even government says bitcoin is illegal in my country. Because bitcoin is my main job to get money and no one can stop me to use bitcoin.

Title: Re: Post by: justdimin on August 27, 2016, 08:42:11 AM I probably would keep using Bitcoin - it's so convenient and a much more easy way of paying and receiving payments than any other service could provide - all with a low transaction fee. You couldn't ask for more. It's anonymous enough if you use with right tools. So, government decision will not stop me, I guess.
Title: Re: Post by: Recoon on August 27, 2016, 08:58:48 AM no matter what happende i keep using btc all the time.
Title: Re: Post by: richkellj on August 28, 2016, 06:01:27 AM Firstly, I don’t understand why there are some countries bans bitcoin and assumes it as something illegal, I mean it’s just a cryptocurrency so how can it be ever against the laws?
Secondly, in my view, bitcoin is good at many sides and it has helped me a lot and I think it has become a major part of my life so if ever someone forbade me from using bitcoin, it would affect my world a lot and I would have to find some other crypto coins because I wouldn’t dare to risk my life to use bitcoin. All the above, I never want that to happen and I hope I wouldn’t have to face that problem. Title: Re: Post by: 20kevin20 on August 28, 2016, 06:02:44 AM I wouldn't use it anymore, but I would keep my already saved funds in there. Why would I risk getting sued or jailed?!

Title: Re: Post by: entrepmind23 on August 28, 2016, 06:31:31 AM If it really has a big punishment like I will be imprisoned if I'm caught using it then I will not use bitcoin. May be I will shift to another cryptocurrency that is not illegal and then gain from there. There will always be a way if I look hard enough.

Because Government wants to control the power of people. So they will not allow free distribution of money to their people. Instead they will try to capture the source of it and enjoy it's benefits.
However, due to the technological complexities, most of the government is not bothered by bitcoin. That's a good thing. If Bitcoin Really Banned in My Country Then I Will Exchange My All Bitcoins Into Another Altcoin And Start Using the Other Altcoins To Grow My Money....So, would you keep use Bitcoin if government says bitcoin is illegal in your country? Even if they could spy you on internet? If that really happened my country (i hope it won't happen), i would still use bitcoin, but i would use tor browser and paid/trusted VPN to do any bitcoin activity. But then at first i don't have an idea why other country's don't accept bitcoin on they banned it ,maybe the only illegal way is the crime related underground transactions on market makes a bad effect on the people on a particular country. Title: Re: Post by: Braeron on August 31, 2016, 08:46:03 AM Yes I'd still use bitcoin, the idea behind bitcoin is not illegal and countries are just scared bitcoin will take over and make banks go bankrupt. Depends on the situation or level of banning they implemented on bitcoin. Title: Re: Post by: bryant.coleman on August 31, 2016, 06:58:15 PM In my country, using torrents to download movies and TV programs are illegal. But no one seems to bother about the ban. Almost everyone is using torrents to download whatever they want. The same will happen with Bitcoin as well. Even if the government bans it, no one is going to give any importance to it. Business will go on, as usual.
Title: Re: Post by: sana54210 on September 01, 2016, 06:10:24 AM I think i have to fight for our rights lol. They cant just consider bitcoin as illegal even if it is used in legit ways like mining amg shopping but if do so then i have no choice at all Well, it is always stated that "our rights ends when others rights starts"... Therefore, if government has a plan, then we have nothing to do with it, we have no choice but to follow, but since most of us is resilient enough, I think even if it is declared as illegal I think we will still pursue to collect bitcoin... There is always a way for things that could possibly make us alive or survive in life... :) Yes , for me as long as we keep on using it on legal ways then there would be no ways that bitcoin will be considered as illegal by our government and i think they will support us instead Yup... I hope no bank heist or any crime in the internet that could involve bitcoin... That way there is no reason for the government to monitor or ban the use of bitcoin... For now, I think it's just fine even if the government won't support bitcoin, as long as they are not planning to impose harsh move against bitcoin... :) Absolutely but if the government will monitor bitcoin then i think there would be no problem for that. It only means thst they are starting to recognized bitcoin which is good for us Title: Re: Post by: GregH37 on September 01, 2016, 06:49:19 AM for me it depend on my own life's risk. if I found enough ways to keep my self anonymous and untraceable from government I may still use it. but if I found I can't hide my self and possible can get jailed I would probably quite using bitcoin..
i would be still using it, it is not an illegal think and it shouldnt be banned i think You can't say it shouldn't be. gov can do anything. they can ban bitcoin if they found that bitcoin is becoming a threat for their Banks, businesses and their own currency. Title: Re: Post by: groll on September 01, 2016, 06:56:26 AM It is not illegal in my country so I would still use bitcoin as long as I can. I could do buy things with it online and I couod also pay my bills using bitcoin. It would not be declared illegal because in our country banks, 711 store, and cash remittances were using and acknowledging bitcoin as mode of payments. If ever that there would be a time that they would ban it, I would comply but there should be alternative for it.

Most governments are just trying to find loopholes and trying to trap people in paying fines if the rules are broken. If your country is such then you should stop using bitcoin immediately. The government will keep a tap on these people not following their orders and then nab them when the accumulated sum becomes large and ask for a huge fine.
Title: Re: Post by: AlexBits on September 01, 2016, 07:32:44 AM of course i would be using it in my opinion, it is the best currency ever +1 Can't forbid me to buy virtual coins for my own money and trade them back in, that would be nonsense.. Title: Re: Post by: lixer on September 01, 2016, 01:46:32 PM Most of the governments will never allow bitcoin to be legal in their country. Because Government wants to control the power of people. So they will not allow free distribution of money to their people. Instead they will try to capture the source of it and enjoy it's benefits. I think they will. It has already shown great promise, even in lands where bitcoin is illegal, people are still using it to make money because they need to live. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Bitcoin is the way out of poverty for many people. However, due to the technological complexities, most of the government is not bothered by bitcoin. That's a good thing. Title: Re: Post by: dc1a0 on September 16, 2016, 05:02:42 PM snip... Monitoring bitcoin to a certain extent would be fine. Extra verification for transfers over a million dollars or maybe over 1000BTC would be fine. Point is if there will be some government intervention to all the bitcoin related things, it has to be bad. But personally, I feel I will be keeping on using bitcoins even any regulations will be implemented by my government. The problem with that is, if they gain even that much control, it won't be long before it's for 100BTC, then 10, then 1 etc. The entire point of bitcoin is to take back our wealth from their control. It's ours, not theirs. If you want any government to be in control of what's yours instead of you, then, why are you bothering with decentralized currency rather than other centralized solutions? Title: Re: Post by: Rostadom on September 16, 2016, 05:06:33 PM I probably would still use Bitcoin even if the government announces it as an illegal thing. There are also software out there that can hide your identity, so getting traced by the government should be really unlikely.

And given that fiat works just great for me to pay my utilities and rent and groceries with, I don't think I would keep any bitcoin if it was criminalized. That's a pussy way out, but there's no way I'm going to risk my wealth being seized by the IRS or FBI. It's just not worth it. But I think the US government is enlightened enough (don't kill me) that they wouldn't do that. Or if they tried, we'd fight back. Not saying I trust the gov't, because I don't. Title: Re: Post by: marleybobthedog on September 27, 2016, 03:42:55 PM At least I have to sell my bitcoin and till then I have to use bitcoin even though it sounds illegal for my country. Anyway government will not pay me for my lost bitcoin so i can take that much risk to use bitcoin. Bitcoin is my life and without bitcoin I can't think of a single day.
Title: Re: Post by: Tanic on September 27, 2016, 03:44:20 PM Well, in the case if government accept bitcoin as illegal here I doubt I would continue to keep it. Because of in the case if something is illegal they are searching those people who have this illegal thing and if they find they will take it all from you plus some big tax for that fact that you knew it is illegal, but continued to keep it. I think it would be something like that. So what for to risk and live in fear. I better say no to bitcoin than to my free and relaxed life.

I think even its illegal you can be still use bitcoin just make sure that you are using vpn and always clear your cache so that no evidence that you are using bitcoin.. you can do that just use online instead of hardware wallet.. But i think it will not happen in the future. incase that it will happen i will anonymously use bitcoin. Maybe I will stop using bitcoin because it is illegal. Our country now is very strict on the implementation of law so better to be safe than never. Plus it would be hard for me and everyone to keep a bitcoin if it was illegal because there would be no place you could exchange it to cash. Title: Re: Post by: Wendigo on September 27, 2016, 04:03:28 PM Underground peer-to-peer trading of Bitcoin will thrive in places where Bitcoin is banned. The government can't completely stop something that exists in a digital form. Yes I agree that Bitcoin exchanges or ATMs won't be available in such countries but who cares about them when people could still exchange the coins for hard cash between themselves. Poker is outlawed in some American states but people continue to play secretly organized home games. There is always a way to go about that ;)
Title: Re: Post by: choppork on September 28, 2016, 11:58:33 AM Yes I would still use Bitcoin even if the government says it's illegal. It would be really hard to trace us, bitcoin users, by the government because anonymity is one of the many privileges that we get by using Bitcoins. How would they track us if the transactions are all anonymous?
I think the only way that they will catch you if somebody sees you using Bitcoins and gets a photo of that. People that has nothing to do in life would definitely report you especially if there's a bounty. Title: Re: Post by: rio3233 on September 28, 2016, 12:07:14 PM I would keep using bitcoin. Because i only have job on bitcoin and i can earn a living with bitcoin. So, i will keep using bitcoin even illegal in my country.
Title: Re: Post by: Nahl on September 28, 2016, 12:17:16 PM my country also says all related gambling also illegal including casinos online but i was still gamble almost everyday without any problem and if someday bitcoin illegal i would still use it because i won't leave bitcoin and i had comfortable using bitcoin with very much benefit and i would do anything i could such as using VPN or something else
