I believe that my prediction would be possible next year. I am thinking that bitcoin will finally reach one thousand dollars by January of 2017 and will reach its peak by December 2017 at 2k dollars each. Amazon will still not use bitcoin in my opinion. China will be the center of bitcoin by 2017, they will hoard more bitcoins so it will inflate more before they dispose huge volumes.

yes bitcoin has been growing with the same trend for a very long time and it will only continue this way and with these price rises more people will come and increase the adoption which means more growing both in number of users and the price.

paypal is not a shop! it is a payment processor and no they will never (at least not for a very long time) accept bitcoin and same thing but with less severity goes for Amazon, they will accept bitcoin if it becomes a lot bigger than this.

USA as it always have been, China is mostly fake volumes and mostly trading. but US, Canada, and even Japan and Switzerland are places that i have seen many usages and real adoption there.

No one knows what would be the next years price of bitcoin but we could able to say that it would possibly mark its price on $1000 next year.Adoption of bitcoin cant really be stopped and merchants and markets would surely pop out since bitcoin awareness is already spreading and thats really a good news for us who uses bitcoin.

China will be the number one country market for bitcoin they those people who holding tones of bitcoin in market well as bitcoin today it shows that bitcoin has a very big potential to grow in year 2017, Hope that bitcoin will be accepted in any of merchants soon so then we don't need to exchange to fiat money anymore.

In my opinion, Bitcoin will be more popular and will get more investors which can help to make bitcon even stronger and healthier cryptocurrency. We already know that the price of bitcoin now is high and we can see that it is keep rising up and that is a great sign for a long term or even short term holders because the price is always keep rising up and it gives profits for investors or traders every day and i think that scenario will be the same on 2017 ;D ::)

In some occasions I observed that the growth of the bitcoin will commence or centered on the country's markets, where countries that I think and very potential in the growth of the bitcoin is China. Why I chose China..?? because as we know that every growth bitcoin (prices going up and down) it's mostly coming from China and the largest is China. So in the coming year, it would be something incredible is the Chinese economy which is mixed into the bitcoin

This is a hundred and first topic about bitcoin in 2017.  No one has crystal ball so tha he can exactly say what will be happening with bitcoin in that year. The price is on the way up but this will not last forever. Some of pumps and some of dumps this is the only thing that is certain.

I dont agree with your point as China to be number one country , only for miners they cannot become number one and china exchanges are the one with full of fake transaction where 80% of transactions are  fake and users own buying and selling trades are done, So i think India is making is foot steps in Bitcoin but it will take more 3 to 5 yrs to develop more.

I think it is not simple for Amazon like big shopping site to  accept Bitcoin because if they will accept Bitcoin then their will be problem arise that how to give tax , and what happened when the countries law banned the Bitcoin ( history of Bitcoin saying these words directly ) .
Well here I will say the king of Bitcoin also will remain China because of most of the miner are Chinese .

like any other years so far, bitcoin will continue being great in 2017 too. and since the price has been rising these days i think we can expect above $1000 soon in early 2017 maybe in Jan even.

and this will eventually lead to adoption by all those big services like amazon when people are using bitcoin more and more.

The control of china is either rather worrying is totally awesome depending on how you look at things.  They can send it sky high and crash it within a month.  Lets hope we get some growth in the west in 2017 to balance things.

Bitcoin has been on the rise but I'd be happy if the BTC stabilizes in 2017. I dont want btc to be so volatile like it has been so far. If it becomes a lil steady may be a lot more investors will head towards BTC. I have read that BTC might be named as commodity of the year since it doubled in one year. BTC has grabbed a lil more mainstream attention because of it. Hopefully this new found attention stabilizes BTC.

Seeing what happened in 2016 I believe that bitcoin will have more adoption from people worldwide. China will continue to support the bitcoin market and Indian people after the ban of 500 and 1000 rupee banknote will turn to crypto coins market. So more demand of bitcoin globally means higher price.

I think 2017 will a nice year for bitcoin and the price will stay stable and continue to claim slowly. Also, the community will continue to raise and the number of bitcoin wallet.

Should be great to see the mining shifting from China and see more counties join the forces for balancing the hashing power in the network.

My opinion on bitcoin in 2017, well for starter we all without doubt can agree that its price well go over 1000$ and that is a good for most of us because most of us are holding it to that moment, and there will be no surprise that the number of users for bitcoin will increase significantly which will make bitcoin used more in most of the shopping online like amazon or eBay as a payment method , and the number of investment in it will also increase.

I think it will be a nice year for BTC too. The price will continue increasing slowly, but with consistecy and stability, we will have the opportunity to finally reach to $1000.

About mining, I think China doesn't want to see this balancing power, currently they are ruling the mining activity and I doubt another country or countries can beat them now, as they have cheap electricity and powerful technology to continue mining the most Bitcoins. Looks the chineses will have more Bitcoins than any other country.

For me personally I see Bitcoin 1200 by March and if trend continues 1600 by year end. Don't know about countries accepting it, people have started accepting it a lot. From what I see transaction will get slower and that's what I am hating about it, no solution in sight. Though I feel banks will start accepting it soon. Downside if things go bad then, I see btc a low of 650$ not below than that. Overall a positive year is predicted.

I am pretty sure that we are going tos ee the new all time high during the 2017 year, and it's not only going to be a spectacular year price wise, but the technology will advance too. We will finally see Segwit activated as the bullshit campaign against it gets defeated (it will fall due it's own weight). We will finally keep moving forward towards a faster, more optimized, and more private Bitcoin, people will keep moving their wealth into the blockchain and the price will reach jupiter.

If the end of 2016 are any indication of what will happen with Bitcoin in 2017... then we will have a jolly good year, next year. I just hope

SegWit or some scaling solution will be finalized early in 2017 to gear us up for the whole of 2017 and beyond. Kim Dot Com also

promised us big things for 2017, so I guess we will have to hope for that to happen.  ::)

From what I can see we are definitely going to see a rapid growth period either towards the end of this year or through the beginning of Q1 of next year. We should be able to see an all time high price per coin which I think will be anywhere from 1200-1600$. After this all time high, I do believe the bubble that occurred will pop and we should see a stabilized price from 700 (At Low) to 1000$ish dollars as the stable.

Due to the higher price per coin, this will be also due to a higher demand in the aggregate and should allow Bitcoin to keep these higher prices even when the bubble will have popped. We should also see other places accept Bitcoin as a medium of exchange also.

First we do have to see how high this bubble is going after the steady growth through most of the year, then we can make some more reasonable estimates after the bubble has popped.

The way that it has been behaving lately. I and many here would beg to differ on that assumption.
It has risen by $100 in no time and continuing to climb so where will it stop nobody knows.
Going into the New year all we can have is optimism or what hope do we have for it to ever get established as a global currency to upset people's main oppressor: MONEY! >:(

More merchants might accept it but really at this stage that is not so much a big deal, in my opinion they need to accept bitcoin now morre than bitcoin needs them.

There are so many variables and things out there going on, I hesitate on offering any predictions (my track record is mostly one of bad predictions about the future).

So, I will just offer up the below, purported to be a quotation of J. P. Morgan when someone asked him what stock market would do:

"It will fluctuate."

Also attributed to Morgan:

I don't give comments about china and india that you are talking to. I don't know yet what's behind that. - look at the charts you may get your answer yourself. the "growing trend" looks good and healthy for the past 2 years and i see no reason why it should change. the adoption is growing every year and that leads to higher prices.
- eventually yes. they will all come around some day.
- India: don't think so. China: it has always been big so far.

I think we are going to see a slow decrease in the price of bitcoin and we will reach a stable 800 in the early spring then the price will keep climbing until we finally reach 1k at the end of the 2017, my prediction is a lot more conservative I know, but I think that is going to happen.

Trend will likely continue, however there aren't any indicators as to whether or not it will speed up or slow down. There are a lot of things that can still happen.

There will probably be more opportunities for more shops and services to start accepting Bitcoin, but it doesn't just happen. It has to be encouraged by average people.

China (and Asia) will likely remain the central market for Bitcoin in 2017.

I don't agree; Amazon is a giant but if seen that its sales go to the bottom what will do; Amazon will be forced to adapt in the new era i.e change its policy. Paypal is different from amazon and probably will continue fighting the bitcoin and supporting cards and wire transfer money.

China now has the most miners but do not underestimate the Indian people; They recently lost their confidence in cash. What will prevent them to begin the mining?

The price of bitcoin probably will continue its upward trend but where it stops? If anyone is a risky investor can try its luck.

I think, the vegetating period's over. It'll keep growing until... well, some people expect a crack here, but I think it won't be a crack. Many popular service accept Bitcoin now and the number of adaptors's continually growing. Building out this opportunity wasn't easy, I don't think they'd easily tell "Oh, we won't accept Bitcoin from tomorrow, sorry" when I understand that it was worth for them and made people happy.

In your last sentence you are comparing an ant with an elephant. India is not that much advanced in bitcoin world. China is the biggest market of bitcoin and in competition with China there are a number of western countries who are far advanced in the usage of bitcoin.

It's hard to say anything about the ups and downs, but when we look at the statistics there, Btc showed a big rise this season. But it is not possible to say anything about India and China on the way to the east. I also think that in 2017 more people would have reached the bitcoin.

When we are sure about more people to adopt bitcoin, then definitely we can be very much sure that the price of bitcoin will be flying toward moon. I guess the mass adoption and price surge are going to keep on happening in upcoming days so we are going to see bitcoin price levels will be testing even $2000 also.

Absolutely agree. Most of the long-term predictions are difficult to make, as there are too many variables at play. As long as the main driving force behind the price movement is speculation it is nearly impossible to get the timing correctly, too.

yes bitcoin has been growing with the same trend for a very long time and it will only continue this way and with these price rises more people will come and increase the adoption which means more growing both in number of users and the price.

paypal is not a shop! it is a payment processor and no they will never (at least not for a very long time) accept bitcoin and same thing but with less severity goes for Amazon, they will accept bitcoin if it becomes a lot bigger than this.

USA as it always have been, China is mostly fake volumes and mostly trading. but US, Canada, and even Japan and Switzerland are places that i have seen many usages and real adoption there.

I think that bitcoin will continue to grow in all aspects such as adopters, merchants, and price as this year seems so good for bitcoin, at least more people realize the benefits of having this technology.
Why USA? What the proof of fake volume in China? As we know most miners in there and probably more bitcoin generated from them too.

Well, one thing is that Bitcoin will grow next year, which I don't doubt and fully agree. Second however, is that being overvalued today we may experience a drop in price nevertheless. That is to bring the valuation to the realistic levels that correspond to the current development and adoption levels.

I do not think that bitcoin prices would fall below $ 500 if the price of bitcoin down in 2017. I feel that things will turn around instead. that is, the price of bitcoin will actually increased during the year. probably more than $ 1,000. however, if the price drops bitcoin, bitcoin prices will probably hover around $ 600- $ 700.

2017 will be the year of consolidation for the bitcoin ecosystem. With a price around $1,300 and a reduced volatility, it will be more attractive for new users and influent companies. Despite the multiple new altcoins to emerge in 2017, the bitcoin dominance will remain with no serious competitor.

I am not still not expecting $10k price levels as of now. Because I am just targeting for new all time high levels and maybe after that like many people here I am also will start speculate about huge price levels like 2k or 5k or even 10k.

2017 is definitely going to be a fully power packed with respect to current stable price levels. This slow and steady rally certainly will take bitcoins into 10k levels too.

I have no idea what will happen to Bitcoin price as we go into 2017.

But I would note that Bitcoin has very majestic price cycles, it goes WAY UP and then comes WAY DOWN.  Yet the general tendency has been for it to keep going up, on the average.  In my three or so years playing with BTC, I have noted that the system has not failed yet, nor apparently even come close, despite all the drama.

Buy and HODL seems to be a reasonable strategy.  There does seem to be a good chance that BTC will move beyond its ATH, then crater again.

Whee!   :o   :)

In other hand we can see many people will interested on it all we know that bitcoin has been covered on media in good way lately, there will be more startup and projects engaged with bitcoin. About the value of the bitcoin i hope that i'll be wrong no one can predict future accurately, We all can have an opinion and speculate about it.

The price will rise to at least $1,500 by the end of 2017. Drops and hikes are likely and will correlate with the general sentiment in the global capital markets. If overall uncertainly prevails, the price would keep rising as the liquidity of bitcoin is inherently low. The better part of demand will be generated by that.

I think that in 2017 we will see a rise of the bitcoin in the market, first the price of the bitcoin might go up to 1500$ by the end of the first quarter, and that will bring many new users to the bitcoin and also a lot of investments with it, so it is no surprise if most of the big names like Amazon or eBay starts using it as a payment method, and we might see banks starting to adopt it.

Yes, when the price rose to $ 1,000 bitcoin in Thuan 2017, I think it would be a lot of things changed. perhaps, so many businesses are open out there, and that business accepts bitcoin as a means of exchange. it will make people do the same. Well, bitcoin will be popular in 2017.

Its not possibly doubled. Its already double the value now. This made bitcoin to be rocking stocking online in the world. We got more adoption, mining decreased to half the rate. Price doubled to 950$ now and so many interesting stories with the bitcoin in this year.

the $2000 is too big, and it is best if price goes up more logically and reliably rather than jumping up 2x and then fall down fast.

if you look at the charts you can see a pretty nice linear rise shaping up based on the rises throughout all these years but if we make another breakout now, the same story as 2013 will happen.

Barry Silbert Optimistic of Global Bitcoin Exchange Volumes
Barry Silbert, the co-founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group (DCG), stated that trading volumes of global bitcoin exchanges are growing at a rapid rate. Exchanges in regions such as the Middle East and Mexico have demonstrated record breaking volumes amid bitcoin’s recent price rally.
As arguably the most active investor in the bitcoin industry, Silbert collaborates with leading bitcoin exchanges including Japan’s Bitflyer, Mexico’s Bitso and South Korea’s Korbit. Silbert and the rest of the DCG members direct and lead companies globally, to expand their services and operations.

DCG invests in a wide range of bitcoin and blockchain startups, ranging from bitcoin exchanges to blockchain solutions providers. In early 2016, DCG closed multiple deals with multi-million dollar blockchain startups, to provide necessary infrastructure to the financial market and banking industry that are seeking to implement and commercialize the blockchain.

Yet, despite the hype around blockchain that existed throughout 2016, bitcoin exchanges have seen the largest commercial success.
Rapidly Rising Trading Volumes of Bitcoin Exchanges

Several bitcoin exchanges under the portfolio of DCG including Bitso and BitOasis have reported record-breaking volumes. Bitso, for instance, saw more trading activity in one month during December than in 2014 and 2015 combined, amid the end of the year price rally.

In an interview, Bitso president and cofounder Daniel Vogel stated that the rising demand is directly attributable to the lack of financial infrastructure for the general population in Mexico. The limited amount of banking services and financial systems led to the search for alternative solutions, such as bitcoin.

Middle East’s BitOasis also reached record breaking volumes, as the demand for bitcoin rose rapidly over the past few months amid global economic instability and financial troubles.

“December has been our best month yet since launch. We broke new daily volume records,” said Ola Doudin, co-founder and CEO of BitOasis.

Silbert Assures Investor: It Is Just the Beginning

Silbert reassured investors and traders that it is only the beginning. As an investor of 19 bitcoin exchanges, Silbert has access to the trading volumes and private data of exchanges globally. Observing the rapidly increasing volumes of exchanges, Silbert said:

“Best part of having invested in 19 bitcoin exchanges around the world is we get to see their monthly volumes. Folks, it is happening.”

Also, countries like India, Venezuela and China have tightened currency controls and imposed various financial regulations, which have led to the devaluation of their national currencies. India, for instance, is currently dealing with a severe cash shortage issue, which has proven to be a disastrous situation for average workers, businesses and households.

If this global economic slump and financial instability continue, the demand for bitcoin will continue to rise. Inevitably, many bank consumers and traditional financial services users will migrate to bitcoin to avoid excessive control from banks and governments.

Yes Bank Develops Blockchain to Digitize Vendor Finance in India

Yes Bank, a prominent private sector bank in India has announced the implementation of a multi-node blockchain to digitize and automate vendor financing solutions for a regional client.

Vendor financing is essentially the lending of money by a company to one of its customers, so the latter can purchase products from the company, driving sales for the former.

To develop the solution, Yes Bank sourced technology from the Linux Foundation-led open-source blockchain project, Hyperledger. The blockchain solution made use of smart contracts developed by Fintech startup Catenia Technologies to deliver a vendor financing solution for major Indian electrical equipment manufacturer Bajaj Electricals.

Bajaj’s business interactions that include discounts and disbursal of funds to its vendors will be digitized over the blockchain, allowing for faster, more efficient record keeping and increased transparency. Yes Bank’s anchor client (Bajaj Electricals), will see automatic debits from its account at the bank, as a part of the automated smart-contract enabled blockchain transaction.

“The entire process cycle for bull discounting reduces from four days (owing to manual intervention and transit) to almost real-time,” a press release from Yes Bank read.

The blockchain implementation was heavily facilitated by technology partner IBM. Hosting the blockchain over its “Hybrid Cloud” platform, Yes Bank also leveraged IBM’s “Watson Conversation” a cloud-based cognitive service to further enhance the user experience of participants (bank, the vendor and borrowers or purchasers) in the blockchain.

Bajaj managing director Shekhar Bajaj sees blockchain as the solution to digitize supply chain financing.

The blockchain implementation in Indian business finance comes during a time when other similarly notable efforts start to take shape in the country. IBM has also partnered major Indian conglomerate Mahindra to bring supply chain financial solutions in the country for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Tech giant Microsoft launched its Azure Blockchain as a Service toolkit to Indian customers in December 2016, soon after the announcement of a partnership with consulting giant KPMG to push blockchain adoption among clients in India.

I've all heard the naysayers, newspapers, commentators and so called experts declare Bitcoin dead, time and time again

That is golden year of bitcoin in 2017. Cheer up now.

The Bitpay Visa: a Bitcoin-Debit Card Review

Bitcoin debit cards have become more popular over the past two years with various choices on the table for consumers to choose from. Cards enable a user to load the account with bitcoin reserves and spend the funds where major credit cards are accepted.

Bitcoin.com decided to review two popular bitcoin debit cards that are currently available to cryptocurrency supporters. The Bitpay Visa card and the Xapo debit card are from two well-known bitcoin companies and both offer different features. We hope to explain in detail how these loadable cards work so our readers can get an idea of what it’s like to utilize these types of cards.

Just recently I ordered the Bitpay bitcoin Visa card, available to U.S. residents in all fifty states. The card cost me $9.99, and you have to pay for the product in bitcoin. There wasn’t much to fill out for verification purposes. Registration required my social security number, email, and current mailing address. Other than those requests nothing more was required from me for identity. After registration, I paid for the card with a Bitpay invoice and was told I would receive the card in 7-10 business days.

Five days later I had received my card, including a PIN and references to card fees. The PIN is used like a traditional debit purchase and also for ATM access. After getting my card and reviewing the fees, I went to the Bitpay Visa card activation page. The page asks for the credit card number, three-digit CVV, and your email. As soon as the information is processed, you now have access to an account page.

The account page is where you load bitcoins onto the card. There is a button that says “add funds, of” and you type in how much money you want to load in USD. I decided how much I wanted to add to the card and entered the amount, which then processes a new Bitpay invoice. Like any Bitpay invoice you have 15 minutes to pay and I scanned the address with my phone’s wallet, thereby paying the amount. Immediately the invoice is marked as received, but funds are not accessible until the transaction receives one confirmation. It must have been a busy day because I had to wait for my transaction to confirm. When it did, my card was loaded with funds.

$11 Trillion Bet: DTCC to Clear Derivatives With Blockchain Tech

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DCTT) has selected a series of firms to help integrate distributed ledger technology into its first large-scale, real-world application.

In the single, complex deal involving a distributed ledger consortium, a stock exchange, a tech startup, a legacy computer firm and an international collection of bulge bracket banks, the post-trade financial services company has begun the process of moving a significant part of its $1.5qn-worth of transaction workflow to a distributed ledger network.

With a contract announced today, IBM will help manage the process of moving $11tn worth of credit derivatives to a custom distributed ledger built by VC-backed startup, Axoni, under the advisement of banking consortium R3CEV.

The CEO of the DTCC's derivatives service subsidiary, Chris Childs, explained to CoinDesk how a network of nodes run by the counterparties of a transaction will be linked together to not only streamline post-trade processes, but save money as well.

Over the course of the next year, the partners will work collaboratively to "re-platform" the DTCC's existing Trade Information Warehouse (TIW) for post-trade processing to a distributed ledger custom-built for cleared and bilateral credit derivatives.

For an idea of the scale of this operation, the TIW covers all major global derivatives dealers and 2,500 buy-side firms in 70 countries, according to DTCC data.

The DTCC hasn't shared the exact amount of money it believes could be saved by moving the transactions to a blockchain or distributed ledger, but a 2015 report by Santander estimated the global savings to banks more generally speaking could be as high as $20bn a year.

If this first large-scale implementation of a distributed ledger proves successful, there’s plenty of room to expand. The entire global credit derivatives market in 2016 was $544tn, according to the Bank for International Settlements, much of which is processed by the DTCC.

Bitcoin is Still Volatile, But That Doesn't Mean It's Not Viable

Noelle Acheson is a 10-year veteran of company analysis, corporate finance and fund management, and is a member of CoinDesk's product team.

The following article originally appeared in CoinDesk Weekly, a custom-curated newsletter delivered every Sunday, exclusively to our subscribers.

After teasing us for most late 2016, bitcoin *almost* reached a new all-time high in the first week of 2017. That is, before startling everyone with a sharp crash, rally and correction.

The headlines were gripping, and transmitted that edge-of-your-seat feeling that something big was going on.

But was there?

I don't want to imply that price movements aren't important. A steady increase sends a message, as does a sharp plunge. But the messages sent mask the real news – bitcoin is becoming a valid alternative to fiat currencies, not because of its price, but because of its relative lack of volatility.

Outlook unchanged

Yes, I do mean "lack of".

A 20% slump in one day is severe, certainly, and has no doubt caused short-term traders considerable stress. But, in the big picture, it's not material.

We need to remember that, after the initial slump, bitcoin’s price ended up roughly where it was at the beginning of the week. No one can deny that bitcoin has performed well.

Whether the performance is due to fundamentals such as geopolitical uncertainty or monetary turbulence (neither of which are going away any time soon), or to market dynamics (which fluctuate, as always), the outlook of bitcoin is still the same as it was a week ago.

Sure, China accounts for most of bitcoin’s trading volume, and so has a strong influence on price movements, but the fundamentals are still there.

Sentiment is still bullish. Experts polled by CoinDesk at the end of last year predicted end-of-2017 prices of between $1,400 and $3,000.

While the eventual performance is not that relevant for bitcoin fundamentals, it does signal enough robust support to withstand short-term fluctuations.

Volatility, in context

Much more important than the price is bitcoin’s volatility.

Over the past few months it has fallen to levels generally considered "acceptable" for fiat currencies. This week's performance will no doubt push bitcoin's volatility index up a notch, but it's still less than half of what it was six months ago.

Over the past three months, bitcoin's volatility (30-day vs the US$) has on occasion been lower than the South African rand, the Brazilian real and even gold. It has been close to that of the yen, the British pound and the euro.

And here’s the kicker: it has achieved this without central bank intervention.

This is what we should be focusing on: bitcoin’s volatility, in spite of this week's movements, is approaching that of supposedly stable fiat currencies. And it’s doing so on its own.

No fiat currency can say that.

Stability ahead

And so, whatever the price movements, bitcoin is successfully showing the world that its value as an independent alternative is strong.

As any economist will tell you, one of the basic requirements of "good money" is that its value be relatively stable.

Low volatility does not produce dramatic headlines, but it is a much more important metric for investors, entrepreneurs and developers. And as new entrants join the market, volumes will continue to increase, sources will diversify, and bitcoin’s volatility will continue its downward trend.

Well, if bitcoin maintain high prices, probably in 2017, bitcoin will become more popular in comparison to previous years. many people started to believe bitcoin, it is evident from the large number of news about bitcoin, and some companies are trying to compete with bitcoin. but I am sure, that bitcoin will become increasingly popular this year.

Banking on Bitcoin” Film Released in Hopes of Attracting Millions of New Users

Films or series that discuss cryptocurrencies are vital to bringing about awareness and ultimately mainstream adoption, says Zach LeBeau, producer and mastermind behind both the SingularDTV decentralized entertainment platform and a soon-to-be crowdfunded Singular television series.

SingularDTV is a Blockchain entertainment studio, smart contract rights management platform and video on demand portal that places intellectual property in the form of film, television and software projects onto the Ethereum Blockchain.

LeBeau believes film projects are a sure way to spread the message of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, a borderless, permissionless currency controlled by no government.

Zach LeBeau mentions their new project, “Banking on Bitcoin,” a film that covers the digital currency as the most disruptive invention since the Internet:

The film, which according to its makers took three years to make, has an in-depth coverage of key players in the space including Charlie Shrem, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, Barry Silbert, Erik Voorhees, Nathaniel Popper, Alex Winter among others. They share their thoughts on how the revolutionary cryptocurrency technology will shape lives.

The documentary was released in select theaters and VOD on Jan. 6.
Other films on crypto

Other films and TV shows that have been produced in the last few years with the digital currency featuring include the 2015 American crime comedy-drama, “Dope,” “Mr. Robot,” “Deadpool,” “Deep Web” and recently, “StartUp,” which is built around the use of digital currency on a business scale. There is also “Bitcoin: The End Of Money As We Know It” which traces the history of money from the ancient world to the trading floors of Wall Street.

On its path to an all-time high earlier this year, the top digital currency gained more interest in the popular media with known publications and broadcasting stations covering the development.

Bitcoin Becomes Venezuelans’ Last Resort, Even When Buying Food

Amidst the worsening economic crisis and financial turmoil, Venezuelans are in search for alternative assets and stores of value to finance their daily living. The imposition of excessive regulation on physical assets such as gold has pushed the demand for Bitcoin in the struggling country.

The death toll of starving Venezuelan children is rapidly increasing in Venezuela, to the point where military personnel resort to trafficking food into the country and residents are struggling to acquire basic necessities like medicine.
Bags of money

In December of 2016, the New York Times provided extensive coverage on the devastating financial and the economic state of Venezuela. Some of the stories including Nicholas Casey’s article entitled “Hungry Venezuelans Flee in Boats to Escape Economic Collapse” accurately demonstrated the collapsing economic and monetary systems of the country.

Earlier this month, the Associated Press released a report on the severity of cash shortage, which has disallowed Venezuelans to purchase enough food and medicine to support their families. As a result, people escaped the countries in boats across borders to migrate to neighboring countries such as Colombia and military personnel were trafficking food into the country to feed the hungry population.

Associated Press’s coverage of the military food trafficking case demonstrated the level of corruption and unlawful operations led by the government. Military personnel that had specific orders from President Nicolas Maduro to distribute food to the general population of Venezuela were profiting from the national financial crisis, selling food from butter to flour on the black market at a price that exceeded the government-set price by 100 times.

Jose Campos, a grocer interviewed by AP stated:

"The military would be watching over whole bags of money. They always had what I needed."

People are turning to Bitcoin

Venezuela is a small market for the Bitcoin industry. It accounts for a tiny fraction of the global Bitcoin exchange market due to the current financial situation in the country.

However, an increasing number of people are turning to Bitcoin in an attempt to obtain a currency that has an actual real-world value in order to obtain basic necessities.

Individuals from students to company owners have reported their success in mining Bitcoin and using the digital currency to purchase items like food and medicine through online marketplaces that accept Bitcoin. Some students were ordering food through Amazon using Bitcoin accepting service providers like Purse.io.

Some outlets also reported that Google searches for the keyword “Bitcoin” in Venezuela increased exponentially over the past few months, as people sought out for alternative currencies or assets to support their living.

In consideration of the current financial trend of Venezuela, it is entirely possible that a currency like Bitcoin could replace the national currency, which does not have any significant value anymore. A decentralized currency does not require permission from the authorities to settle transactions and send payments from one another.

For me 2017 has a better future for bitcoin because people were now adopting the usefullness of it like in online wallet fast cash out transaction for banks, and expected more challenges of price fluctuation will spike higher again and down to optimum price in the mid year.

Indian markets seems to have been involved much in Bitcoins since the demonetization took place there, the highest rates being triggered there are proof that there will definitely going to be some space that bitcoins will get and used for monetary purposes. RBI is going to involve blockchain technology which is another great news and a sign that Indian Government might take interest into allowing bitcoins as everything is going digital.
China has already been in control of bitcoins, so nothing's new. I think that the growing trend is going to continue further and will be taking bitcoins to a completely new level.

Well i think it will too.  This is the prediction of some bitcoin veterans.  They said that price will reach 1500 at the end of the year.  Their reason is people fleeing from their local currency.  They also observed that there are lots of fresh fund from the newcomer in Bitcoin.  So definitely bitcoin is being adopted by people.  There are also companies that are looking and getting interested in Bitcoin.  With this factor I think it is possible to reach 1500 this year.

Yes, that's correct. I think in this year some countries will accept necessary laws to regulate bitcoin. I am not sure what it's going to bring to us, now we use bitcoin freely, who knows what is going to be after laws be accepted?

Bitcoin in 2017 will be a better investments this time because more people were now be using this time and demand will be striking up again and the price will rise again after its downfall because of many buyers who believe in profits of bitcoin and they hold it for better. I do hope its not just an speculation, but being positive for a possibility that it will make higher price history this year.

Ha I am gonna watch this tonight.  Did not noticed it exist. I guess there will not be anything surprisingly new in it, but I am sure will be nice movie to advise to watch first for newcomers.

I guess there wil be just more and more movies about Bitcoin or at least part of it dedicated to Bitcoin and on general decentralised blockchains.

$11 Trillion Bet: DTCC to Clear Derivatives With Blockchain Tech

The DTCC hasn't shared the exact amount of money it believes could be saved by moving the transactions to a blockchain or distributed ledger, but a 2015 report by Santander estimated the global savings to banks more generally speaking could be as high as $20bn a year.

If this first large-scale implementation of a distributed ledger proves successful, there’s plenty of room to expand. The entire global credit derivatives market in 2016 was $544tn, according to the Bank for International Settlements, much of which is processed by the DTCC.

That's a very interesting piece of news there, logic-bet, thanks for posting it.

DTCC is an opaque and largely unknown company that is at the heart of the financial system.  Here is a clip from the wikipedia page:

"The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) is an American post-trade financial services company providing clearing and settlement services to the financial markets. It provides a way for buyers and sellers of securities to make their exchange in a safe and efficient way. It also functions as a central securities depository by providing central custody of securities."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depository_Trust_%26_Clearing_Corporation

"Clearing and settlement services" are a perfect data set for DTCC and a blockchain.  DTCC is extremely important, note that they had issues during a NYC storm (hurricane) a few years ago, they now have a backup site.  A blockchain looks to be very smart.  And $20bn ain't peanuts!
