The subject says it all, what books, resources and other things can I study so that I can make an educated decision.

I want to invest, but have no idea where to start and need to learn more about bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general before taking the plunge.

If you want to make a profit, investing isn't really the best place to do that, I would only invest in the bitcoin prices itself or an altcoin investment. On sites like poloniex you can buy altcoins with bitcoin and you can look into the history of that altcoin and try investing your money in a certain altcoin and waiting for the price to go up.

Another thing I would recommend is margin trading, pretty much the same thing as buying altcoin/bitcoin low and selling it for high, but more profitable. Kraken and poloniex and many more sites have it as a service.

I should have specified a bit more, where do I go to learn more about a buy and hold strategy. Bitcoin has gone up a lot in the past few years and I want to educate myself so that I can profit from this massive growth. For context the only investing I've done thus far is a mutual fund that brings me a pretty nice 7-8% every year. 

I have 2 bitcoins held in a margin trade for my parents with a x3 leverage going long, meaning that every dollar bitcoin goes up I'll get 6 $, I have it set to close the margin trade at 2984$ which if it does reach that it will have profited 12,000$ or so + the capital gain from the 2 bitcoin. Margin trading can be bad though especially if your impatient, I would recommend gunbot if you just want to leave it on your computer while your AFK. It can make around 1-4% per week depending on your luck and the altcoin spread.

I like your understanding on how things work op. In life if you want to be an engineer, you have to learn how engineering works, if you want to be a carpenter you have to developed your skill on how carpentry works. Since you want to learn first I think you are on the right part. Trading is a thing of the mind and the only way you can succeed in it is through your skills and how it works like football and others skills. For your fundamental analysis you can use reddit.com/r/bitcoin and for technical analysis there are there on most of the exchangers sites. Lastly, you will need to develop your skills through demo- you can use samplefx and download metatrade software and open a demo account. Goodluck.

this is one of the best series about bitcoin. the guy who did them seems to have given up a little but they're still out there.

other than that there's so much out there that it's hard to know. for a general background to bitcoin, even though it's pretty out of date now, digital gold by nathaniel popper offers some great insight into the early days and players.

There are not many places where you can invest bitcoin and earn bitcoin passively. If you like to do active trading than you can try day trading (buy at low and sell after few $ rise daily) or you can play with altcoin for profit.

Few other passive ways is investing in bankroll of trusted gambling websites or lending your bitcoin for margin trading in poloniex like exchange platforms.

Investing on Altcoin still is considered investing to bitcoin I guess. Investing to ICO is actually the better that I could recommend because their price isn't as high as developed coins already and the bonuses are already considered profit right after its released you already have earned if you dump the coins but that would be something to think twice.
However earning profit through ICO takes time while trading on BTC/USD can be done in just a day.

You can learn two things, fundamental and technical analysis. Fundamental more likely related to news and the trends. Technical is how you can read the price chart.
Expected 7-8% per year is you just hold it, you just considering and calculate how much price your starting buy.
Do a trading daily can earn more profit, if you have understanding that two things.

This forum can serve a large portion of this, take time to go through the threads, check ann thread for discussions of each project. medium can help for some cryptocurrency, some of their pages are there. You can also add some on twitter for updates.

I think there is no books for learning about bitcoin but buying bitcoin is really one of the way to invest.. but not good idea to buy bitcoins right now because the price of bitcoin is pretty high much better to wait for the price lower $1k value before you can buy bitcoin and hold it for a long time that we can say its investment and sell the in the right price to make a good profit..

Right now there aren't any books specific to bitcoin trading--it's all way too new.  At least I don't know of any.  There are plenty of books about trading in general, though.  Go on Amazon and you'll find plenty.  One of my favorites is "Reminiscences of a Stock Market Operator" by Edwin Lefevre.  It's super old, but it's stories about stock trading and the mentality thereof.

Take everything you read here with a huge grain of salt.  There are tons of people who have no clue what they're talking about, and most people here post just to get paid from signature campaigns.  There's no shortage of advice, but there is a shortage of quality advice.

first thing you should know is that bitcoin is not a separate and different thing than other things you see in the world. it is a currency and an investment. it is new in some aspects, but when it comes to investing, it really is the same.

you need to know basic economics and basic rules of trading if you want to invest in bitcoin with an educated move. don't think too hard about it being bitcoin.

and the second most important thing to learn is basics of bitcoin, how it works and most important is how to secure your wallet.

Thre are plenty of resources available on the internet to learn about trading, however, I deeply believe in gaining experience from actual trading because practical experience makes it more memorable to avoid mistakes in the future. I would suggest you to start studying price movements on the chart, don't be greedy to invest without understanding the movements. It's a trading and risk is associated with it so don't worry if you suffer loss (almost everyone suffered it in their initial phase). Do your own research BEFORE INVESTING. You will get good experience over the time.

Here I will suggest to get study about the bitcoin system of how to make deals? how to do make buy/sell and what is escrow system in the bitcoin .
If you will get such knowledge then you will be able to do start any job or work in bitcoin to make start your earning .
I my self was fully stupid in the starting because I was fully unknown for the bitcoin , and first of all I didn't know that what is bitcoin ?.
So I will suggest to take better study that what is bitcoin and altcoin than start your investment in the altcoin trading in this way you will be able to make better profit  from investment and also from other system of bitcoin earning projects .

what type of investment you want to do, you need to specify this before you make invest and if you don't have any info about investment itself, then i think you should search first the info, learn it and read it with careful, after this, you can search the investment programs that will work for you. you can read many information on this forum and i am sure that you can found what you looking for.

You've put your money into bitcoin and it's already was including on investing your money in bitcoin. You must learn more about it, I think you're the complete beginner. The important thing about to keep your investment is always secure in your cold storage.

You need to familiar is all aspects of bitcoin before investing into bitcoin, you can google it or you find in youtube video about bitcoin analysis being explained by the experts. You can find many posts regarding bitcoin investments and analysis about bitcoin. You need not concern about bitcoin as you are not newbie to bitcoin.

Educate yourself?Then you would really educate yourself here on this forum and you wont need ebooks and other stuffs since information about investment is already here and you could able to hear from different people regarding on what is their investments but still you would really matter on your skills and interest which you saw that you have the potential to make profits.There are lots of ways actually.

well its right mate this forum already have a bunch of information if you can take time and just focus with certain things that you wanted to learn i think you will be able to find answer to all those questions and if you like learn  to more youtube and google will also a good reference as its also have some more to offer.

You can educate yourself by experiencing it , I mean by trying it with your own hand ! why dont you try to invest with just a little amount of bitcoin or any other crypto coin so you can identify the flow if the market ! there is no secret in trading ! different person have different styles and you can only find your own style by doing it by yourself ! there is no technique in trading ! hardwork , patience and luck will make you profitable when it comes to trading !

Actually all the resources you need is already in the web ! you just have to be specific in what are will you need ! I started here in cryptocurrency by only reading things on the net associated with that without asking on the community at first. I asked later instead after learning some basics and knowledge because it's hard for others to respond if they will teach you from the scratch.

i never read any book or any specific resource to learn trading so i don't recommend it either. if you like you can use it and others already made some suggestions.

what i did was googling some general topics. for example technical analysis or some specific terms or analysis that i wanted to know what they meant. and then i read some of the top results.

in trading i believe reading is never going to help you as much as the experience of getting your hands dirty gives you knowledge.
it is best if you start trading, and try to find reasons why a price goes up or down and then try to predict those ups and downs after a while and make profit. and this can only be achieved by following the price and the news at the same time.

yes if a person wan to become an expert trader so he can get help from internet. important information about trading are available on youtube and other google sites. one can also get good help from bitcointalk.org services section. once can use social media and new to get valuable information about bitcoin.

I believe that trading and investing isn't really based on knowledge that you can get from books , It's something that you earn from your past experiences. You clearly need to have a basic idea before starting but you can get that using your logic. If you want a long term investment then there is nothing better then buying BTCitcoins now and holding them for a few years as for trading then It could be a little bit tricky and watch the price movements regularly and you should be updated with the news related to economics .
Losses are probably something impossible to avoid though as sometimes the market is simply being manipulated by the Chinese or the exchanges since they are holding the most of the coins.

The best method would be to learn from your own experiences. Maybe it's not the easiest way but it's the best. Here on forum there are also some good topics about trading where experienced members share their experience so this could be a start also. On the internet you can get some basic information but you will not learn it unless you try it.

For educating yourself you need to take the help from three different places one place is the tutorial available on internet where you will learn the detail method and after that the second place will be this forum where you will ask for the questions in which you will have doubt and the third step will be to take the practical experience with a smaller amount of capital. That three are more beneficial steps.

I've also found it hard to find credible information about earning more bitcoin and growing them. I've been sifting through the threads but many of them can get quite technical.

You are on the right website, all you have to do is read more specially those who are warning about other investing sites. So that you wont get a wrong step in every decision that you will make.

I suggest you look also on some high ranking gambling websites here, they can give you good profits just investing with them. I think .01 bitcoin is their minimum.

True,google and youtube is also a good reference but i would say that these forum has the most important informations regarding on cryptocurrency which we could really see important informations and you could able to self study just read and read on the informations you seek and also theres a search bar button you can always use that.

So it would be very rare to find credible information about bitcoin investment opportunities. The better practice must be investing with your skills, yes working for yourself would be the right way for growing your bitcoins.

Right. By just roaming around in this forum I already learned a lot. There are so many interesting topics and while I can see others are just speculating still many people are sharing their experiences and opinions.

Educate yourself choosing legit investments only, avoid ponzie schemes and any other kind of fraudulent scheme, avoid weak alt coins also whichcan make you lose money. I see many alt coins promising nice returns, but all of them die fast.
If you don't find a good investment, don't invest, wait for the right moment to sell bitcoins and to buy again and it can be the best investment option for you.

To learn about different altcoins and its investment opportunities, just watching all coin industry for some period of time would be more than enough. Because if we are watching and not investing with them, then we can learn how to select a good returning altcoins. But mostly people are not preferring to give you enough time to learn these things and burning their hands.

For me, faucets will be the best, and if you have earnings, you can invest your money to tradings. More and more tradings will be on to you. But you should know where you can earn a lot of money. This could be one of the best way to earn basically

Trading bitcoin is really a good start or a lesson to have more knowledge and skilled in bitcoin's market. It would lead a person to know what is altcoin, cryptocoin, buy orders and sell orders and many more. It would also help us to become more practical or crtical in terms of what we should trade or what coin we should hold to grow. And part of learning such thst things is failure. This failure would teach us to become smarter and indpendent in terms of choosing what to trade or invest.

I think faucet is just a waste of time for the current rate of bitcoin and the amount of the faucet offers. It is better to invest on trading goods on this forum just like physical coins if you have a capital. This will gave you huge potential profit if you buy the right coin and sell it on right time.  This is the bussiness that has low risk of lossing.

the best place for you to educate your self about bitcoin is this forum. you are a newbie so you must start from beginning. I suggest you just don't think about investment for a while now. and only focus on reading and collecting knowledge.

Indeed, this forum has been the best way to educate me about not just investment but also has given me the opportunity to earn money through signature campaigns, so as a new bitcoin user who has neither the money or the experience to make some bitcoin, this is the place that is going to provide you that.

A simple reading is enough and doing it on an actual one after learning those basics. The experience you will built here is kinda effective in the long run. You only just need the basics and advanced learning or making analyzation will automatically be your specialty. I suggest to read every replies of community in your thread.

I just want to differentiate the investing and trading. Investing is like putting money on bitcoin and let it sleep, yes for a long term purposes. Trading on the other hand are doing buy and sell at certain period of time meaning for short term or long term depends on the price movement.

i think one can get good information about bitcoin and alt coin from Internet, good information are also present on other web sites about bitcoin and other alt coin, one can also study about different exchanges like yobit, bitfinex, c-cex etc. from whhere one can also know and get information about alt coin about their lower and higher value and about their entire history.

i think you can learning by doing so you can have both experience, in one side you learn about the method, the other side you learn about the real time to do but i am not suggesting to investing because there is a risk that you should know. i am suggesting with trading only because i think with trading, you can learn many thing and its need time before you can mastered. investing is good option if you know about the programs and you should invest with the money that you can afford and don't expect that you can make profit in short term.

Bitcointalk is the best source for the self educating purpose related to cryptocurrencies. Observing news from other available sources and learning too is a good way, but the learning will be understood perfectly when you implement it with small amounts and know what's the reality.

Exactly, look for legit one to have good investment, since there are alot of bitcoin investment sites that goal is only to scam other money, just be alert to those glittering words that the sites offer, even the alt coins do the same thing not only in bitcoin.

Not everyone can see what you see on those charts. It will require another education to read the price of cryptocurrency on charts, except you have a prior knowledge in a relevant field.

I will suggest you to learn what is the factor that affected bitcoin price to go up and down, learning by experience is the best, but you need to know some basic, you can learn from youtube or google, but the main point of trading is updated news and skill

Such knowledge and experience come from doing mistakes, I have lost 100% of my capital many times when I started trading, it was my mistakes and those mistakes are proving helpful today to avoid the traps and gain profits from real opportunities. Even satoshi was once a beginner and he built this bitcoin empire by learning from experience and mistakes.

While this thread is created here, I think you mean investment in trading. There are many books to read especially if you are newbie, for example in investing, this book is great to read: "The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons For Corporate America" (1997) by Warren Buffett" and for stock trading, I suggest you to read "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" and for trading - "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefèvre". That books will give you very good experience and remember, best investor and trader is active reader.

Without taking risk in trading you cant earn any profits or bits from it. I do agree on you you should try and learn because without doing it because you are scared then you cant earn any because when it comes to trading experience is must well the trick is invest small then try to learn from it so that next time you invest you will know what is the right move

we all know bitcoin is a good investment and with a good future and lots of profit. but you can't be ignorant enough to overlook the risks.
and risks are not just about risk of price falling. there is also risk of losing the private keys, it can be hardware failure, misplacing your cold storage paper wallet, and theft.

I agree you will need to read lots of books and trading forum threads here, probably trading scams too to avoid been swindled and at the end of the day experience is the best teacher. And you need to keep up with Current affairs affecting cryptocurrencies politically and economically.

No books can teach you and believe me that asking people and investing in coins that people suggest is just like loosing money knowingly, while I was new I used to chat in sites (example poloniex) and there guys suggested me to buy some shit coins. Maybe for personal interest.

There is no book that can teach you where to invest, you need to do your own research and you need to find the background company, the traffic and the most important is the review from a trusted member, finding a good place to invest in bitcoin is a very hard task, but I will suggest you to invest in casino, it got less risk than other place to invest

Yes its possible on making money with ICO's but now i think it would be hard on selecting a good one because there are lots of scam icos which we should really be careful on selecting one and if we chose the right one then we should be wise on how to secure profits and if a success then just repeat it again and again.

For taking the experience your method is worthy anyone can know about different strategies with that method but almost all of the knowledge is not achieved with that method so for getting complete knowledge he must have to take the education from an expert person. He can find an expert in his own area or on this forum. It will be more better if he also pay some fees to the teacher.

Anyways Warren doesn't trade with BTC yet as far as I know and hence the best books or e-books to read for btc investment and knowledge can be searched on google. I am doing trading since quite sometime now but I never felt I need any book at all.

While it is right that we learn from our experiences and wins and losses but actually I have been trading since 6 months or more and almost like lost 1 bitcoins plus in these alt coins trading while I am yet to understand how to spot a good coin. I just see the hype created by them get tempted and buy the coins. A classic example is ICONOMI coins.

Iconomi is no scam but many people involved with it are greed mongering degenerates. iconomi already reached 4 times the price of ICO and if whales try to force you to panic sell your tokens it's not ICN's fault.

I am quite agree with you that if you have experience and enough bitcoin then you should try trading I think it is the best way to increase your money in no time. Investing is always risk involved and getting learned about will not help all the times. But trading will help us only once we learn it.

That is true but friend how will a person survive if he sells everything for an asset that you also suggest to sell after 6 months, I mean the panic would be enormous and life changing plus we all need to fulfill our basic needs and hence quite difficult this.
We all ( at least me and my friends ) knew that BTC would fly after the new year yet we didn't bought much.

you can read some threads here about investing, probably at economy board. if I'm not mistaken,, I've ever found an e-book about the wyas of earning bitcoin. probably the book contains strategy to invest.

Educating yourself by practising is the best answer for my opinion. You have to try try and try and then you will learn what you have done.

I agree, experience is the key. I started learning about bitcoin simply by making small purchases and transactions. Small transactions won’t give you much profit, but it’s a great way to get familiar with bitcoin, and figure out some of the finer details involved in the market, and how to trade.

this is a good answer for the question because if we only read the information but we don't practice then what we read is no use and we can not have any experience with what we have. it is better to trying to practice with what we learn so we can learn more and of course we can increase our knowledge by doing that. but i think it is only work in trading and i don't know with other thing outside of trading.

Indeed. Such advice I got from people in exchange sites when i ask which coins I should buy.
One guy told me (long time ago) that I should buy reddcoins (or something like that) with all the money I have in my house, bank and anywhere. Even suggested me to take loan and now you see that.

Hence while I agree bitcoins would never face such a dump but actually investing all we have is quite risky and a change of $50-100 per bitcoins can make the person panic badly.

I do strongly agree on what you have said I don't need any ebooks or any other stuff since this forum do really have all the information you will need regarding bitcoin and other alts the information are all in one and incase you do have thing you didn't understand you can simply ask the community which are always ready to help you out.

books, ebooks and all other resources that people usually suggest are for basic knowledge about trading and it is a very good idea to start reading these resources as a beginner like OP so that you can know some basics about trading.

There are many resources are easily available, moreover we do not need any specific books which are specialized for bitcoin or cryptocurrency trading because trading is always common for any commodity. Just learning the basics of trading will help you to achieve desired results in bitcoin trading too.

what are you talking about, I think you have to put the source about the books at least the link or online shops of them, it will be more complete with what are you talking about. What's I know there are not books that talking about trading digital coins.

There are millions of trading books available online for free of cost. If you ate not able to find them by useful then how you will be able to do research and analysis for the success of your trading. Yes, we should not expect an exact solution only the directions will be more than enough.

i think experience is more important than money in trading. and specially when you in learning stage. i think first you need to invest a very little amount of bitcoin and when you get some good experience in trading then you can increase the limit of your trading.

An update on the investment front, I've pulled 25% of my portfolio out of stocks and the $ is sitting in my Gemini account waiting to be used. I'm not investing immediately and will read the forum an observe over the next 2-4 weeks before taking the plunge. Especially since Bitcoin is going to hit $1100 again; I wonder if there will be a massive sell off or if a new price floor will form, anyhow it's better to wait a bit an learn before jumping in.

although money is also too much important in trading as well as in gambling because if a person do not have good money to invest he cannot expect a good profit, because your profit depend on the money you have invested. but you are also right because experience, skill and knowledge about trading is also important for making money and without experience the risk of losing money increase.

If you can see how the altcoins are doing when it happen and what altcoins situation when BTC price also goes down. And when you finally mastered it all, you may find yourself ready to trade. There isn't anyway that you can learn otherwise in today's world most of the millionaire or maybe billionaire would be an educated person but unfortunately that's not how it works. Relying solely on experience is a good thing on intuitive stuffs like trading and whatnot but in other things in investment, it's not. When you're an investor in real life and you're not even educated enough to compete with other investors or at least interact with them, you will have serious problems because your reputation will be ruined and you'd labeled as "dumb" in the circle of investors. Basically the same reason why we all went to highschool/college, so when we talk to others that share the same interest, we will not be bullied or seen as a weak specimen.

did learn from books but I jsut spend the btc I earned to poloniex, it doesn't  matter to me whether I profit or not so long as my adrenaline to sell high and buy low is tested by my hand. I loss all of it from the first few weeks but gradually learned whtqa they actually mean by  "buy low sell high".

you may understand it like btc/usd so buy btc when the price is low and once the price hits almost the peak, sell for USD. or you can take it like buy altcoin/btc and then sell when its pumped. there are good altcoin such as eth and xmr.

In my experiences, investments are just gambling and I never prefer them heartfully. One of my friend forced me to go for few bitcoin based investments but none of them never reached ROI before they stopped their services/ran away (one of them was cloud mining).

That's great but let me suggest to you to focus only on relevant information, there are a lot bitcoin related information you can read in the internet but you only have a limited time so make use of your time properly. Bitcoin is the future and I just do not believe without educating myself, we will see more progress in years to come so it's good to continue studying about bitcoin also.

Reading some books can only teach you about the certain terminologies or give you the basic concepts of how to see profit and loss, it won't teach you to know the profit beforehand, that I think only comes from experience. You don't think that it can go less than $1000 but it can happen as volitality occurs as dumpers dump bitcoin again. Also, I don't think they can do it easily since the buy order support in bitcoin is huge, thus it's hard to break it. I do not know why you expecting the bitcoin value to dump towards 1000$ or lesser than that. None of the people will expect for forking to happen again on bitcoin. Price is always volatile but its seems stable after the price reaches to 1200$ and more. You will see the value around 2000$ for sure in this Christmas.

i think it is not such a good expectation because we can see that the price of bitcoin is continuously increasing, and there are more chance that the price of bitcoin will hit 1500 USD very soon, therefore i do not think that there any chance that the price of bitcoin will fell down to 1000 USD level again. i think we can only expect that in very near future the price of bitcoin is going to hit 1500 USD level and after that it will certainly cross 2000 USD level at the end of 2017/

i think bitcoin price is not going to feel down so much. i think it has a very strong support which is not letting bitcoin to drop from 2000$ and i am hopeful that it will continue increasing. and will reach to 5000$ in next few months. i think in present condition if a person can afford he should try to buy more bitcoin or at least the bitcoin that he already have.
