What's with the bolded text? Anyway, if the only two options you have are Pakistan and Thailand then you should go to Thailand, it's a no-brainer. Why go to Pakistan when you can go to Bangkok which has been an established tourist destination for decades now and offers much more to see. Plus from Thailand you can take some boat trip down the Mekong and visit Cambodia and Vietnam, and I doubt it will be too expensive. No offense to Pakistan. They are a powerful nation and a nuclear power, but I just don't think there will be that much to see there.

If it's a cheap adventure you seek why not try for a trip to North Korea. As far as I know if they approve you, they pay all your expenses.

Pakistan or Thailand? It's a no brainer, choose Thailand... unless you want to get your anus sore before having your head cut off. Seriously dude, this is the first time I ever heard anyone mention Pakistan as a tourist destination. It seems it rarely cross the minds of normal people when planning where to spend their summer.

Still, a tip when going to Thailand - stick to the usual tourist spots. And don't travel south to Malay Muslim regions. Same rule applies to the Philippines - don't go south.

Pakistan is quite big, or at least it encompasses multiple territories with various political ideologies. You would lose your head in parts, but Punjab is pretty safe, as safe as any international destination in a third world country.  Islamabad is a tourist destination.

Thailand is safer, generally, but you would actually be more likely to meet misadventure in the most popular parts of Thailand, given the criminality that has risen around the sex trade there (they prey on ignorant Americans that come overseas to fuck their women and children).

Your money will go further, in a meaningful way, in Thailand. Most people wouldn't even arrive here mentally, of course you go to Thailand. They have been providing Americans with Thai bootyholes for decades, that tourist money is sadly a 'thing' now. And as the saying goes, some 'things' never change, you get my drift? ;)

To answer your question, they average citizen will neither know of your existence, nor will they care. You go to a fucked up part, you may get fucked up. That's all over the globe, I can take you to a few places in the United States that you wouldn't return from if the denizens decided to 'eat' you.

Its no brainer dude. Go to Thailand. It is like a paradise for those of you Caucasians. Hmm. Why not Philippines though? You know that Pakistan is Muslim dominated country and they hated Americans. At least in Thailand you put yourself in a better position to enjoy your vacation because its friendly to tourist because its one of their attraction there. Sandy white beaches, beautiful pagoda's and palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. So its really a good place to visit for American tourist like you.

If you want some adventure and exotic experience, then Pakistan is a good choice. There are places with breath taking natural beauty, especially in Gilgit and Baltistan. But please remember that the security situation there is very precarious.

Just another suggestion if you're in such an adventurous mood. I think they are still doing those tours of Pripyat city and the Lenin NPP in Chernobyl. I don't think it will be too expensive either  :)

It's not a bad idea, since there's a lot of grimm stuff to see. The area is relatively safe and many people have travelled there in the recent years. The only problem is lack of hotels, bars and such. I'd choose Thailand, at least you can go for a swim and try some local cuisine.
If you want a cheap place to go to, Greece is not that expensive, but beautiful, and if you want something even cheaper go to Bulgaria. Great weather, beaches, decent hotels, everything dirt cheap. Also much less bugs than in Thailand.

I do not understand those people who go to Muslim countries. What is good for a normal person? You can always find places more beautiful and safer. Muslim countries have terrible laws and customs. You always risk your life on these trips.

In my country live many economic immigrants from Pakistan. Almost everyone of them sends money back to their family, but nobody wants to return to their country. There is no need to ask why. But if you still intend to go for tourism, although you said that you have a limited budget, for your own safety it is a good move to keep some money for armed guards when you want to walk in the roads of Karachi, unless you masquerade as a local.

I don't think it's safe to go to Pakistan just maybe because they are having problems there, just as you stated. It won't be a great thing to do if you are expecting a grand vacation, it would turn out to be different and definitely not what you are expecting it to be. Just be careful there if you still plan to do it after everyone said that don't go.

Sure, absolutely go on this adventure. Here's how. Go to Thailand, hang out and have fun. If you get a minute to think about anything other than the wonderful things in front of you, use those minutes to think about leaving and going to Pakistan. If you don't have a spare minute to think about it, nothing lost.

Russia would be fine, with the exception of the upper reaches of Chechenya and Daghestan (outside major cities such as Kizlyar and Derbent). But then, if you are venturing in to the rural areas, prior knowledge of a few Russian phrases would come in handy.

If you are in mood of adventure and want your adrenaline to be higher than your testosterone/estrogen then you must visit Pakistan. You could have a sight seeing at CPAC corridor, Karachi, even chances are to see places where legend Osama Bin Laden lived "Abottabad".

I have been in Thailand for a year, i was QA manager in a firm there in Pattaya. Thailand is a Dope place with chicks ready to get drilled in ass, just beware to wear protection else you might get STD. Blonde, brunette and Milf are best to get lain there. I will suggest you to visit Thailand.

Russia does have many beautiful places to stay. But I'm not sure that this country is good in terms of security. The same places there are in Canada and America, but it's safer.

well I haven't been to pakistan but judging from the blogsblog that I've read from people who actually went there already, there are places where you can actually have a safe wonderful trip. of course there will be risks as there are wherever part of the world you go. especially if you're a caucasian venturing into muslim countries. but practicing proper caution and respect towards the locals would most likely get you through in most parts of the world

Most beatiful islands in thailand are between phuket and krabi.

Currently Pakistan is not suitable to go on vacations. You can travel to Thailand, India and many more which you finds cheaper.

India is also not safe for Western women (especially North India). Also, India is more expensive, when compared to Thailand. I would chose Thailand over India or any other South Asian nation at any point of the day.

It's not about the majority of a religion. The places in Pakistan are like heaven. Yes, it's a terrorist inflicted country and a blast is as common as a cricket match there. I think Thailand would be a better choice for Americans.

A lot of Americans do visit Pakistan, for various purposes. A number of major infrastructural projects are currently ongoing in that country, and a number of American corporations and banks have their branches there. But never ever say that you went to Pakistan for sight-seeing.

I can sense that you may have a second thoughts on traveling to Pakistan and that may not really be good for you. So maybe the best thing to do is stick to Thailand as it can be cheap and they can provide you with many safe adventures. You don't want to travel and get yourself in danger, right? Now, if you are also looking for another cheap alternative (though not that very cheap) then maybe you can take a look at the Philippines as my country also offers many nice places to go to and we are one of the most hospitable people here on Earth.

Some people are more interested in exotic locations. Do you know how many international tourists visit North Korea every year? And trust me, the number is not very insignificant. There are a lot of westerners going to nations such as Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Somalia.etc.

Actually, even others here will tell you that you must go to Thailand for a vacation where they have a lot of beautiful tourist spot out there, if your heart's tell that you like to visit the Pakistan, all the suggestion will be useless at all, though you know nowadays Pakistan was a dangerous place to visit for now, but I'm not sure if it still not safe, I'm not updated anyway in the news, just all I know about it for now.

I do not judge any country, I judge statistics and problems of a specific country. Comparing these two that you want to go on a cheap vacation, Pakistan has more problems and has not beautiful sea like Thailand does. So the choice is clear for me, go to the country with less problems to enjoy a beautiful vacation. The only downside though is you cannot eat as good as in Pakistan ,in Thailand. I have been in both places and Pakistani cooks better and I love their spicy food.

You have a point there. Although in America Thai food is considered very spicy and good, that doesn't mean it's that way in Thailand.

Can't recall trying any Pakistani food except maybe twice long time ago, will have to check it out.

Pakistani meat dishes (especially those made from mutton and chicken) are very famous throughout South Asia. Even in England (where there is a very large Pakistani diaspora population), these dishes are among the most wanted. I can give you a few examples, such as Butter chicken, Seekh kebab, Shami kebab, Rogan josh, Chicken Lahori, Chicken tikka masala.etc.

Thai food is also pretty spicy, but it is quite different from the Pakistani food. Anyway.... each country has its own unique cuisine. But there is no need to visit Pakistan to have the Pakistani food, when you can get it very easily in London or New York.

You should stop generalizing and see for yourself. It doesn't really matter where you go as long as you enjoy your stay in whatever country you choose.

If you are an adventurous type, then go to Pakistan. You can experience there an adventure that is one of a kind. The moment you stepped out of the house, there is that feeling of fear for your life. Maybe you will be shot down or you may step into a landmine, who knows? A very exciting and unusual and typically hazardous escapade that will be. You decide.

It is not that bad there. Recently they had international cricket matches and everything went smoothly. There has been no major terror attacks for the past many months. But you never know when the next major attack is going to occur. Anyway, if you stay out of the tribal areas and confine yourself to the major cities, then I guess everything will be fine.

It's probably the same as most countries, if you stay in the main tourist spots and in areas with lots of people - you should be safe. However, the western side of Pakistan seems a lot more dangerous than the east. Too many militants trying to enforce their religious laws on secular people.

Either you are joking or you don't have any idea about Pakistan. It is not a very safe country. Every two or three days, there are terrorist attacks by the Taliban and the other Islamist groups, and the worst part is that many of these attacks target the Westerners. If you are adventure minded, then you can visit Pakistan. But please take proper security precautions.

Tremendous beautiful places inside Pakistan to see. But all militarized. They forcefully occupy Indian land in Kashmir. Machherjhol army I tell you!! But no army = beautiful country!

There are so many rocks to climb in Balochistan and the people are friendly. The warlords are also very sweet to tourist. They know value of tourism. No one wants terrorism always.

But as much you want. Avoid Pakistan unless you have some local network of people who keep you safe. Else they will harass you, maybe not kill you. Thats exaggerated!

Northern areas of Pakistan and Kashmir is one of the best tourist places in the globe. You don't need to go every nook and corner of Pakistan. You can go to safer places. Situation there is not as grim as described by some of the participants here.

Off course you should go. I dont think that you should miss such a adventurous place on earth. Travelling to Pakistan will be truly unique experience, it can be frustrating, enlightening, life changing and, more often than not, surprising.  It’s true that this country does sometimes get hit by terrorist attacks but, right now, every country in the world seems to be fair game and you are no safer sitting at home.

It is the ultimate adventure backpacking destination and if you are a fan of real adventure, Pakistan is a country which is often portrayed in the media as a war-torn hellhole and tourism in Pakistan is almost none-existent.
