Nobody looking for Casascius Coins huh? Discounts for people who buy in bulk.
Do not take it personally, but I think you aren't getting many bites because of your prices. They are a little high. But they are yours to sell, you can put any price you want on them.

I don't actually think the prices are high.  Significantly less than Ebay and less than what is currently offered on bitmit.

I understand that but take this into consideration;

Bulk price from Casascius for single coins is 63 + .3 shipping = 63.3

1.266 per coin cost
0.2 per coin for me to ship, and insure package.
0.03 per coin for the clear, foam ringed plastic coin case
0.05 for escrow (if needed)

That's 1.546 per coin my cost. Plus my time and effort. I take pride in caring for these coins, ensuring proper handling, protecting in airtight coin collector cases, etc.

And yes, I have heard some stories about ebay coins. You might end up with some scratched up dingy coin they carried around in their pocket for a year before going hey this is actually worth something.

You mean when Mike charged 1.5BTC for a single coin?

Nope back when I bought like 15 of them it was like a 10-20% (around there) premium and back then 10-20% was only a few bucks.

Now it's over 50% and costs 50$++ usd over it's actual value.

Please tell me why I should trust this nameless, no contacts, cookie-cutter wordpress shop apparently selling 2011 coins for less than half the normal price?

Lol. He is just mad that he had the opportunity once upon a time to buy large quantities of Casascius coins at significantly less BTC and at a time when BTC was in the single digits. So now he has decided to come on my thread, talk shit, and then promote a reseller that is apparently cheaper than me.

I look at it this way. I take pride in my handling and shipping, I use gloves to handle them, I ship insured mail, and I put all the coins in protective clear collectible cases. Are my prices higher than some, yes. Lower than some, yes. Do I have a history of being trustworthy and dependable, absolutely, and that in itself is worth a lot in the BTC community.

Can anyone testify to buying coins on the site the poster provided a link to...this one: http://physicalbitcoins.openbtcshop.com/

Honestly I think its a scam. As OP broke it down, it would be impossible for someone to sell coins this cheap unless they bought like a million of them. If anyone has made a purchase on there and gotten it, let me know!

Deadterra won an auction, I would assume everything in in the up and up but I can not make any guarantees. I can say that the markup is about .25BTC so I'm guessing that doesn't include shipping, insurance, and clear collectors case.

1.47 with international shipping. Plus customs tax (.1 BTC)

So buying from Deadterra would cost you 1.57 after tax. Plus .03 for the collectible case. Plus insurance if you want packaged insured (.1-.2 BTC).

So 1.7 - 1.8 total plus a 7-10 day shipping time provided it doesn't get held up in customs.

So not a huge difference when you break it down.

Newbie: just learned how to serch for memebers or would have posted earlier;
Recieved coins from Nightowlace few days ago: can attest they are pristine,

my first bitcoins: He not only sold me the coins at a good price as I wanted severel since being new to btc. They were packaged well and shipped immediately registered mail.

He is trustworthy  I had no worries about paying first because he took his time to help explain to me how to set up my wallet and how to fund my mt gox acct. when it got approved.

I was having a terrible time even getting  account authorized at mtgox or knowing how to fund it.
It is very reasuring to a newbie like me to know someone I can trust and who was willing to help me get started with things that many just take for granted eveyone already knows, especially after reading so much on here about scammers, thievs and hackers.

I highly recommend Nightowlace, I dont know about whether you can find a better price by .01 or something but you wont find a better source. The price he quotes covers everything to your door and the coins will be exactly as he tells you!

Thank you again; Nightowlace, for your invaluable help and advice, and I promise to pay it foreward.

Hey thanks Rick! Glad to see you on this forum! Hope you're finding a lot of useful information here. I agree a lot of people just take "knowing" about bitcoin for granted. I've "known" about bitcoin since 2011 but it wasn't until 2012 when I finally had a friend walk me through it that I really started to understand bitcoin.

Growing the community and economy of bitcoin is what will bring us longevity and sustainability.

All I ask is that you share your knowledge with others who seek it.

I hear that! I used to sell coins via PayPal, WU, cash in person, but the lag in deposit time was killing me. By the time I got the money on the exchange the price had doubled.

Now I keep a little cash on the exchange to cover the occasional WU or cash in person order I get. Hopefully one day it will get easier.

Just shoot me a PM and let me know whenever you're ready.

Do you live in the US? It is 1.65 in the US or 1.75 if international shipping is required.

Please send 1.65 for US or 1.75 for international to 1HrcjvzBTZGDvF58FWpA1129dK8ypo4Tg6

Also I will need your address EXACTLY as it should appear on the package.
If you are international I can put full value of the coin in most countries and as long as it is under $400 you will not have to pay duty. Let me know if you want full value or marked as gift with a $20 value.

That's great! Yes, I reside in the States, California to be exact. I'll be sure to send the BTC to your address first thing tomorrow. I don't have sufficient funds in my wallet and will need to purchase the remaining BTC through BitInstant. Is that okay with you? Also, it's my day off tomorrow. There's no way I would have time to do this today.

I just wanted to add that I've so far had 3 packages from Nightowlace and all came as expected and in good shape even after traveling halfway across the globe.
Been a superb trading experience from start to finish, always had timely updates on status, possible delays and tracking. Was very accommodating to feedback and really went the extra mile to ensure everything was up to expectations.

The coin-cases are very high quality and they were quite thoroughly wrapped, so they arrived in pristine condition. Really goes to show that here's a seller who cares more about the customer than just eking out every last Bitcent of profit.

TL;DR
Premium seller, would recommend in a heartbeat.  ;D

Okay so I have enough BTC now. I'm just waiting on the 6 network confirmations. They ended up calling me to work -.- and I said yes so I won't be sending the money until I get back later tonight. Sound good? By then It'll have plenty of confirmations and the transaction can flow much more smoothly. I get back around 10:30ish so expect to receive payment around 11ish. I'll confirm that I've sent the payment publicly on this thread, and I request that you please confirm that you've received so as to make the process transparent. This way we can either fortify or wound our reputations. Thanks!

Wow I'm dumb. I just overpaid on ebay... I assume you still have everything listed as available in the initial post?

And because I'm a bit of a newb (if you couldn't tell), how do you know who sent you a payment, if you're using the same address for everyone?

Are you able to say what state you're shipping from, or at least what part of the country?

Thanks!

When you send a payment you will be provided with a transaction ID. You can send me the transaction ID so I can confirm payment. Typically I only receieve one payment at a time so it is easily tracked.

I ship priority from Ohio typically takes two-three days to anywhere in the country.

Yes I have everything in the original post. I also have two 2011 singles with error (original Casascius Coins with misprint) for 6BTC each.

Let me know what you would like. I can ship next day provided payment is made.

Confirmed: I have received the Casascius Bitcoin and in great condition. The packaging was very well done. You can clearly tell that the seller was very serious when he mentioned the items not being touched by human hand. Also the coin does have the value the OP states it does the hologram sticker has not been tampered with and I can confirm this using BlockChain.org: https://blockchain.info/address/13EyocNxqSpwMXMf1TvjX6AygLEPkySy9L?filter=2

Thanks Nightowlace! I've also left a +1 trust rating. Apologies for not responding yesterday. The item did arrive on time as stated by the OP.

Interested in trading some silver for a .5 coin? I have 1oz bars (dated, from '80s when silver reached its $49.95 high), the look just like this: http://rivercitycoins.com/silverartbars/refiners/usce1plainbar.jpg. Also I have an old Sunshine Mint (pretty prominent mint...they minted all the NORFED stuff) bar, Its from the '80s, too. They're different from modern Sunshine bars and relatively hard to come by-it looks like this: http://www.google.com/search?q=old+sunshine+mint+bar&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&biw=731&bih=402&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=YxLSUZKZKeSTyQGB1IHYDQ#um=1&hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=silver+eagle+sunshine+mint+bar&oq=silver+eagle+sunshine+mint+bar&gs_l=img.3...27260.30089.0.30208.18.15.3.0.0.4.638.2107.5j9j5-1.15.0...0.0.0..1c.1.17.img.q4p4SP4ms6E&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.48572450,d.aWc&fp=8c5a6442f0a59723&biw=731&bih=402&facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=nAZ7e5QkuaTL_M%3A%3BDdfOjhCoAxnR6M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fi01.i.aliimg.com%252Fwsphoto%252Fv0%252F663633825_1%252FNew-HOT-SALE-Free-shipping-Retail-1-Troy-Ounce-Sunshine-Mint-999-Fine-Silver-Eagle-Bar.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.aliexpress.com%252Fstore%252Fproduct%252FNEWEST-Best-Gifts-HOT-SALE-1933-Liberty-20-gold-plated-Coin-United-State-of-America-Eagle%252F105223_664412150.html%3B575%3B575

hey man, these are some good offers.

I'd be interested in 2 or 3 of the 2011 1 BTC coins (they are series 2 with the window, I assume?) shipped to germany.

I wasn't able to figure out the shipping cost by skimming the thread. Can you quote a price for me?

If the coins are as you say untouched by human hands, I would like to order 2 x 1 BTC series 2 2011 coins to germany.

That'd be 1.75 * 2 + 0.2 = BTC 3.67 ?

Where to pay to?

Received the two coins I ordered. They arrived quickly and were packed well. They do both have small nicks in them, but they might have come that way from Casascius for all I know.

I checked the addresses - one of them has an extra .001BTC that was added July 1, sent from an address that also sent .001 to a whole bunch of other addresses, the other doesn't. What's with that? Not really a problem (hey, free .001BTC), just kinda strange.

Anyway thanks for the coins!

That's awesome and odd. I wonder who is sending out some free coinage? Haha.

As for the coins they come straight from Casascius in a paper roll of 50 coins and then vacumme sealed in a plastic bag. Once I receive them I use cloth gloves to place them in the plastic cases you received them in. I'm sorry they have nicks in them. I will check my other coins when I get home from vacation and will exchange them for you if you want.

That's generous of you to offer an exchange, but I think they're fine.

Here's the address of the coin with extra BTC on it: https://blockchain.info/address/13EboHof8EoyB3xW4tssrsufhQtaQmymhS - address 1FFirnLctcZxVx5otnLNZ4dDGUkMBM4vNr is being a Bitcoin fairy and sending Bitcoins to a bunch of addresses. That same address previously sent a whole bunch of 1BTC to many, many addresses and then 100BTC to two addresses and 25BTC to one address. My first thought was that was Casascius loading his coins and then doing... something sending a little extra. But spot-checking the 1BTC addresses doesn't show what I would expect in this case, which would be that all those addresses just had one (or two) transactions to them, and they all hold a nice round 1BTC (or 1.001BTC), but that's not really what I'm seeing. A mystery!

I don't know about the 25 BTC coin, but the 1 BTC and 5 BTC coins are the same size, and I believe that they fit in the 28 mm ring, but I could be wrong. I remember seeing the size in a post in the original Casascius coin thread a long time ago.

Depends where you are based but i bought the lighthouse ones from ebay in the UK last week. You will need 29mm for the 1 & 5 coin.

The 25 is in it's own pouch and it is 44.5mm diameter. I just keep mine in the pouch.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing, too, but I figured if I could get it into an capsule without it touching my hands that might make for easier viewing and less of a concern when I hand them to someone to view. I have a 25 that I used to carry around in my pocket all the time, so it's worn a bit on the front face "B" now and the public key is no longer readable. I'd definitely want to get that one in an air-tite, though the damage has already been done, I suppose.

Nice. :)

How much was it worth when you used to carry it round all the time?

Title: Re: Casascius Coins

I stopped carrying it around the day before Bitcoin hit $250+. Even when it hit $110 I didn't realize just how valuable these Casascius coins were going to eventually be. Plus, since I have others that never left their pouches and are now stored securely, I never thought it was such a big deal to carry this one around all the time.

Since you have such a good rep (at least in my book), have you thought about selling any other coins? I bet people who trust you from the Casascius Coins you've them might do repeat business with you if you had other offerings. I sure would!

Yeah the "collectible" coins are still holding value. Everything else seems to have dropped off.

66 is the est I have and to my knowledge the best any Casascius Coin has received.

Long term bitcoin value seems to be trending positive. I would make the assumption that these coins will become increasingly valuable just as coins in the silver and gold coin market fluctuate by weight and age. Maybe I should take this post down and wait a year or so to sell them?

That's been my view so far, Nightowlace.  I've got graded holo errors for the denominations of 1, 5, 25, and even one of the 18-in-existence 100 BTC bars. (The 100s cannot be graded, as they don't meet ANACS' definition of a coin.)

Seeing you managed to get 8 BTC for a graded 1 BTC holo error was encouraging...but it has a ways to go before I'd be willing to part with mine.  As time passes, I expect their scarcity as well as historical significance to Bitcoin to become increasingly appreciated.

As for the grading numbers, I have primarily 65s, a few 66s, and none higher. I'm fairly confident there was a 67 that sold at one point...maybe by SgtSpike?

Hey guys, I will advertise my service here now, so please excuse if you consider this spam and accept my apology. Will remove the post on request.

Some of you might know of Mikes idea to scan his coins and put hashes of the images into the blockchain as a defensive measure against counterfeiting. I think it's a good idea that can greatly increase the value of a coin in the future. I call this "proof of age" because it allows to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that a specific coin has existed at a certain point in time, which in turn can greatly increase confidence that the coin is not a counterfeit.

As a reseller of casascius coins I started to do this for the coins I sell. I also put info about the coin and the hash of the image and so on onto a nice-looking certificate which I print and include with the coins. Looks like this:

https://i.imgur.com/EiKRpOw.jpg (http://certificates.0x0000.de)

Because people have been asking wether I could help them do this for their own coins and seemed to like the certificates in general, I made a service (http://certificates.0x0000.de) one can use to do so. It'll allow upload of coin images (front & back), insert the hash into the blockchain and offer "certificate" for download (or print for that matter).

I went online with it yesterday. Had 73 visits and 0 sales. Why 0 sales I ask myself. Well, I guess maybe it's quite a barrier to go ahead and make photos of your coins. Maybe the price (BTC 0.02 per coin for proof-of-age, BTC 0.03 if you want the certificate printed and mailed to you) is too high. Maybe there's something wrong with the usability of the page? I'm not sure, you tell me.

So I figured maybe I try advertising to an audience that can see some value in this, and that's you guys with high-value coins on their hands ;-)

So if you want, you can add some more value to (or protect the value of) your precious 2011 coins by generating such a proof-of-age certificate.

Tell me what you think.

As for the grading numbers, I have primarily 65s, a few 66s, and none higher. I'm fairly confident there was a 67 that sold at one point...maybe by SgtSpike?

How is this grading done, what does it mean?

I have a few 1 XBT coins loaded in November 2011. ( misspelt hologram )

How do I grade them?
If anyone is willing to pay 8 XBT I'll be willing to sell one. The rest belong to my kids nieces and nephews.

The public key is part of the batch starting with 18...

As Otoh said, ANACS is the agency that grades these coins.  PCGS and NGC are the leading coin grading agencies, ANACS is generally considered third-in-line.  The premier agencies didn't want to grade Bitcoins, so ANACS gets all the business  :)

The general idea is that they are an independent third-party whose only job is to provide a rather standardized way of grading the quality of the coins sent in.  Especially as you get into higher-value collectibles, this becomes increasingly important.  By buying a graded coin, you can trust the reputation of the grading agency to offset some of the risk of a counterfeit or low quality coin.

Nightowlace gets this, and has grading lined up with ANACS, so purchasing through him is a low risk, convenient way to get some high quality coins without having to do a lot more homework, in a field you likely don't have the same experience that he does.  I'll also add that his packaging, customer service, and follow-through are top notch.  You get what you pay for.

As for your current holdings...you'll probably have trouble fetching 8 for an ungraded, but the people that have the best luck:
-Create their own thread outlining what is being offered (error or not, quality of coin)
-Include front-and-back pictures
-Lay out any ambiguous terms (is shipping included? Is stated price negotiable? Pre-empty any questions)

Along with this, if you care to, you can include an offering in this collectible marketplace (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=214589) thread, which links to your offering. You'll get a good idea of what offerings, graded and ungraded, of some of the rarer varieties of coins have sold for in the past.

Well I am watching the outcome of this. http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2013/12/casascius/ I'm really hoping the rolls of Casascius Coins we just received wont be the last. Granted this will make the coins in existence much higher in value, but it sucks to think this is the end.

Prices are listed in the original post. I am willing to continue selling these coins at the prices listed but at any point an announcement is made regarding the future of Casascius Coins I may pull the listing and reevaluate.

Thanks for looking.

i wonder what the chances are that ebay sale goes through without a dispute..

I sold many coins on eBay for thousands of dollars, quite a few during bubbles when they were selling for 3-4x MtGox. The only dispute I ever hand is someone refused a package and demanded a refund because he paid $450 and the next day BTC was back at $80. Knock on wood.

Only reason I stopped eBay sales is because while eBay allows the physical coins to be sold PayPal does not allow you to accept parent for them. They froze my account with over $5000 in it and I had to fight to get that released.

A graded one is certified by an independent reputable grading company that certifies the quality of the coin. In this case MS65 is near perfect. They also seal it in an airtight plastic slab with the grade and serial number marked on the front. This means your coin is 100% protected and will stay in the condition it was graded in as long as it is never removed from the slab.

Correct. You did. Why would you come in my thread announcing you have them for sale cheaper?

I went in your thread and stated that I sell to the US (because you don't) however if I get any international requests I will send them your way until you are sold out ( which is pretty damn fair considering These requests obviously wouldn't have come to me if they saw your thread. So I would be giving you my own business). I thought we were going to be working together to resell these coins. Guess I was wrong.

I didn't realize we were in such a cut throat business. I'll be sure to sharpen my knife.

I apologize for jumping into your thread like that and advertising my price. It's not good manners.

I'll keep sending US-based customers your way, because I think you're one of the most reliable and honest resellers out there.

"฿1 Casascius Coin: This is a solid brass coin.  Each 1-bitcoin coin is about 1.125inch (28.6mm) in diameter (just bigger than a US quarter but smaller than a half-dollar) and weighs a quarter ounce.  Perfect as a small gift to introduce someone to Bitcoin.  Also available in a ฿0.5 version which is slightly smaller at 1 inch (25.4mm)."

Casascius Coins, Get your Casascius Coins here!

So if Mike (Casascius) announces he is done, prices will inevitably skyrocket. If he starts producing again prices will probably stay the same or decrease by 0.1 or so. So who is gambling on whether or not he is done?

Some say these will be some of the most expensive coins in the world.

im torn personally. On one hand, they will become valuable with time.

on the other hand, with the BTC/USD rate relatively low at this time, you might get a higher multiple of facevalue (ie: 2.5BTC for a 1BTC coin) now then you will when the price of BTC is $7000

I agree to a point. If Casascius coins continue to be produced then the coins will see a steady premium of 1.1-1.3. If he does not continue then these become high collectors items. The older the higher the premium. Just as Liberty dollars can go for tens of thousands of dollars Casascius coins will fetch the same premiums to collectors wishing to own history. I would put the value at 1.5-2.5x the value based on year with original errors fetching 5-20x value based on age and condition.

Interested in coin-for-coin trades? I've got some first-funded (1Ag1) all-silver 2013 1BTC coins, with pgp docs from Mike identifying me as the original owner. Wouldn't mind trading one or two of them for the gold-plated ones to help round out my collection.

If what you're saying is that it's better to invest in bitcoin itself than in the premiums of Casascius coins, I would agree.  If bitcoins go to $7,000,  a Casascius coin will not necessarily increase to $18,000.  I doubt that it would, but who knows?

I wonder how the possibility of counterfeiting these coins is going to be cooked in their market value of time.
How does one prove that the coin for sale is an absolute original unless it somehow was graded BEFORE the august announcement of counterfeit coins in circulation??

I keep the original documentation showing the original owner but how can even that be trusted?

Do you think that someone who is able to counterfeit a convincing replica of a Casascius coin is unable to counterfeit a convincing replica of an ANACS grading slab?  ::)

Personally, I have a PGP-signed message from Mike, plus all original packing including the casascius-stamped shipping box. The coins themselves would also be quite difficult, though not impossible, to counterfeit; same with holograms.

On that note; I have a few of the Silver-with-Gold 2013's still in my possession; handled only with nitrile gloves and sealed in airtites. I'm open to trades- or preferably- 2.5BTC each

I ordered mine when they first went on sale in 2011, no special packaging. Just an envelope with a few coins in them, they were not even individually wrapped. I can prove I purchased them and that’s it, that, and that I started hanging around here in 2012. and I’ll make a public hoo haa when I sell them.

One thing I do is upload a detailed scan/pictures to http://www.proofofexistence.com/ which embeds a hash of the image into the blockchain, that way you can prove the coin existis at this point in time (im sure some of you can do this without the site).

It does not help for proving they existed before august however it helps lower the odds of it being counterfeit if more widespread counterfeiting really hits.

Another good use for the blockchain :)

It would have to be a very detailed scan, however - you're relying on minor surface imperfections on (usually) uncirculated coins to distinguish between your real coin and a future counterfeit. One of those blurry iPhone shots won't do you much good.

Yeah, very detailed scans, you would be amazed how many tiny imperfections there are when studied.
Its still possible to copy, however much harder.

Due to the short supply and recent drop in fiat price i have updated my prices for coins. I will also be mailing these coins out tomorrow to be graded. So you can order today-until I get them back for the currently listed prices and when I get them back from grading I will ship the graded coins in order of grade on a first come first serve. First to buy gets best grade. If you would like to wait until I get them back the price will likely be 2.5-3B

Also if you would like me to ship before they get graded that's fine as well. They ship to ANACS tomorrow morning.

To be honest I have never sold these before. I was hoping to see what offers came in and use it as a base for pricing. I know that when Smoothie sold the 25LTC coins he charged 74 Litecoins. The ones I have are the original w/ error, certificate of authenticity, and leather case.

I truly am open to offers as I have quite a few of these and would like to sell them.

Now accepting offers on my remaining physical coins. Current inventory is accurate. I would like to see what kind of offers I get so that I can gauge true market value.

Just so its fully clear, i was making a joke that anyone who gets both the blanks and stickers could just sell them as funded coins fraudulently :P
and yes, im aware of those stickers..seemingly they have not popped up yet

You don't have to explain man I got the sarcasm! The original guy asking for the holograms could have honest intentions and maybe didn't realize how his request looks pretty scammy, but this is bitcoin and anyone who has been here longer than a day is instantly going to put their guard up. I'm going to go with honest mistake otherwise he's the dumbest scammer I've seen to date publicly asking for "extra" Casascius holograms.

So honest answer; no, I don't have any extra Casascius holograms. These are pre loaded and any unloaded extra holograms leaves a wide open opportunity for a person to take an empty coin with an empty hologram and sell it as loaded and scam people out of a lot of money.

Get your Casascius coins before we crank back up to $1000 per BTC. At the current price of BTC x 2 = $1320 USD. That is a hell of a deal considering we will be above $1320 by the end of July and your coin will be worth more cash value than you paid for it.

Doesn't everyone?

Do you know if Casascius was the first to affix a tamper-evident label to a minted coin? I can't think of a pre-Bitcoin application for something like that.
