Hello,
I just want to know why Bill Gates do not invest some money in Bitcoin, he will be a very big contributor to the crypto world, and will also be very respected, he will also be able to become more rich (or less).
But what is the reason why he do not invest funds in cryptocurrencies?

Just have other things to do maybe ^^.
Or rich enough.

oh please do you understand what are you talking? That man is so rich and why the hell does he wants to be more rich? He has so much money that he can't to spend all during his life. He can to purchase almost all bitcoin but why? Tell me one factor why he has to invest in bitcoin, what will he get? Nothing. And buying bitcoins doesn't means that you are respected.

Bill Gates has enough money to be worried about making great investments, but if he bought bitcoin, he wouldn't say, he would just buy it and hold it.

Im sure a lot of billionaires own bitcoin and aren't disclosing their positions publicly. If I was rich and I bought a big amount of BTC I wouldn't say.

when bitcoin was below 200 USD bill gates told about bitcoin that bitcoin is very cheap so how can say he did not invested money in bitcoin , who knows this ? if he told bitcoin is cheap @200 USD is means he know price will go high and he invested too much that is why Microsoft accepted bitcoin in early stage 8)

Theoretically he would not need to use it since he already has billions in cash and he can probably buy something locally faster than 10 minutes, or have people do it for him.

At what point do you just not care about making more money? It just comes down to power then. Glad he doesn't feel the need to manipulate the cryptocurrency prices with his power :p

He dont need to buy bitcoin because if he tend too then he could really buy all 21 million bitcoins if he want.Why would he bother to seek out more money? Knowing that hes one of the richest man on the world and he wont need to seek out for more money because even he would not do anything he can sustain his entire life with his money.He have everything and theres no need for him to bother his self on more investments.

True, he may use it and just not advocate for it publicly. If he did it might overload the network anyway it is probably not ready for that level of mainstream traffic with transactions globally.

Why do you assume Bill Gates hasn't invested in Bitcoin? Actually he has very fond things to say about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

Also as VC George said above that microsoft has been involved into bitcoin project since few years ago and i think it should be considered that bill gates used bitcoin too indirectly.

Well I guess you missed a small point over here.
When Microsoft intended to implement bitcoins, it wasn't direct implementation.
They partnered with BitPay which is a popular crypto receiver which pays out the companies in USD.

So no they're not storing any bitcoins and aren't trying to do anything with it. They just found an opportunity to add a deposit method (but they still get paid in the same old method in US dollars.

Firstly he does not need money or pure profit. He's now more interested in social responsibility project. And last how do you know he don't use bitcoin directly or indirectly? We can't know.

In my own opinion why bill gates do not invest sme in bitcoin simply because bill gates is so rich he don't need any bitcoins to get even more rich. In every seconds bill gates salary worth hundreds thousands, so in a day he's salary is worth a million. So what is the reason that bill gates should use bitcoin ? Nothing.

I have read and watch a video. Bill gates already know bitcoin and it has a bitcoins too. He also believes that bitcoin is good and it will be a good for long term investment.

Because bitcoin is a revolution and those that are rich are invested in the way the system works, why do you think he will want to become rich  in bitcoin when he is already rich in fiat, in fact from his point of view he should wish the bitcoin revolution does not become successful, if it does then not only he will lose money, he will lose the way to generate that money.

No one know about the bitcoin users that who is in bitcoin and who is not in it because it is anonymous currency. So we also do not know that Bill Gates have money in bitcoin or not. I am sure that he will also have some amount of money in bitcoin because he is related to digital business and any person who is expert in digital world know completely about bitcoin and its benefits.

Probably has his reasons and a lot of them probably stem from some of the legal issues he could expect to run into to there being too much volatility or a lack of liquidity within the market for it to be worth investing in anything, and in a lot of cases he would be right if these are his reasons.

You have to keep in mind people like Bill Gates to not exist to make your stuff more valuable. They have their own reasons and can't care less about how much money you make from Bitcoin, regardless of how rich he could make you.

We do not know, some of this worlds billionaire are secretly  investing in cryptocurrency especially bitcoin. They want their identity in secret and besides bitcoin is decentralized coin where anyone can own anonymously. Just take the case of Wozniak,Apple Inc. co-founder he bought bitcoin when it was still @700 dollar.

The funny thing is that there is a trending video in youtube with over 1,000,000 views about Bitcoin with Bill Gates on it and now all the noobs think Bill Gates is Bitcoin friendly when I doubt that's the case, he must be neutral at best. As others pointed out, Bill Gates is a dollar billionaire so he benefits from the status quo. He would only approve of a e-fiat, not a true radical invention like Bitcoin.

He didn't need money because he is rich enough. Maybe if he use a bitcoin lately his money being doubled. He have many business i think maybe without bitcoin he can richer than he reach.

The people who are rich are the same people who want to stay rich forever. Think it this way, total 41 Billion worth of BTC is in the market right now and Bill Gates is worth 82 Billion. Yes, double than the total of all BTC in the world. He may have some BTC in his pocket already or maybe he is not that interested in BTC yet. Who knows..!!!

As others already mentioned, Bill Gates actually does have bitcoins. Now on to the main point: Bill Gate's fortune  is twice of bitcoin's market cap. Which means that the guy could buy all bitcoins... twice! Better than Chuck Norris. No, he won't become much richer by buying bitcoins. If he invests significant amounts (for him) in bitcoin the price will skyrocket like crazy. Same when he dumps. He might already be a whale, though, to be fair. He probably is, actually. He does have bitcoins but they're not going to make him much richer (or poorer, as you said). If he was invested to the level you're talking about, bitcoin's price would look nothing like it does now.

Is the OP is a personal secretary of bill gates to say that bitcoin is not been used by him. Please check Microsoft site you will understand that they already accepting bitcoin. Perfect business man will not leave a single penny easily.

How do you know that Bill Gates did not invest into Bitcoin, all he need is a offline wallet address to store his bitcoins, unlike banks or online payment gateway, bitcoin does not need a user to register his national ID or submit any document verification for proof of his identity, who knows how many bitcoins there are in Bill Gates bitcoin wallet now except himself?  :)

If I go by Bill Gates opinion I would not call him a bitcoin enthusiast. He likes the technology behind bitcoin, but does not agree with non reversible and volatility.


I do not know if he is investing in bitcoins or not. Bill Gates net worth is twice the entire market capitalization of bitcoin.

We can't know for sure if he is using Bitcoin or not. But I would say that rich people look differently on cryptocurrencies. And if they invest they invest in more secure and stable things, I would say more traditional ones. His interests are focused on different things and regarding to finances he probably has advisers and Bitcoin wasn't something they paid attention to.

Maybe Bill gates doesn't need anything, because He is a billionaire person or He has a deep and valid reason why he's not using it.

Bill Gates is going to used what's best for him, he's not going to use the most innovative or the best this or the best that. He's going to do what's best for himself to be able to maximize profits, minimize expenses (such as taxes) and so on and so forth. Even though he may have come out awhile ago and said Bitcoin was amazing and all that, he's not coming out and saying that he'd use it for himself. He has to ACTUALLY use his currency and doesn't want it to be so volatile that it could lose 1/3 of it's value in .2 seconds. That'd be insane to see with his billions though.

He'd approve of whatever makes him more money, so whatever is going to help him and his family and OVERALL his fortune he's going to work within to advance and further his wealth.

Why would he? That's a good question. He already have all of his assets tagged in USD and because of that, he fully supports the currency. Why would he use something that is technically the enemy or the one that disrupts his holdings in the first place? And aside from that, he's already rich. No need to make more money than what he has right now.

Also I think Bill Gates may be in a point in his life where he does not need any more money, why would he? We do not know whether Bill Gates has invested in bitcoins or not. I think he has lots of bitcoins. Bill gates has already said about Bitcoin's  superiority over traditional money. So probably He has invested in bitcoins.

Why would he? I see no reason for him to come to crypto world and invest money in something whose legal status is still not clear in many countries. It will lead him to controversy. I am sure he doesn't want that.

Not just him, but I don't see 99.99% of billionaires is investing in cryptos for obvious reasons, controversy. If the legal status of crypto currency becomes clear with all countries or majority of the first world countries, then probably we will see some ultra rich population to invest in it. But not before that for sure.

I do think that bill gates supported bitcoin because as i remeber i watched a clip about bitcoin and i saw that billgates and 3 other biignames such steve jobs etc etc supported bitcoin and some article too that says that BG invested at btc

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency usually used for trading, investing, lending etc. Bitcoin is not yet declared as a central currency as it dosent have any central government. I dont think bill gates need any such small(for him) income via bitcoin. He has much more bigger business to handle. Also trading with bitcoin takes a lot time. I dont hink Bill gates can waste his precious time for trading with bitcoin. Rich people like Bill Gates will only accept bitcoin once its declared as a currency.

At this point in his life, Bill Gates is not after making himself any more wealthier than he is now. He is at the point where he would like to help as many people as he can by way of investing at research and development of new trchnologies that uplifts the lives of the underprivileged. And he said in an interview, he is not after the pseudonymity and would rather develop something that has more transparency to it. But I guess it wouldn't be surprising if he has a few coins hidden under his bed.

I like how he maintains a low profile regarding Bitcoin. Though there is no need for him to share to the entire world that he is using and investing on Bitcoin since it will not really bring him a real benefit instead of people saying how amazing it and alike. It is unclear if Bill Gates does not invest in bitcoin. Even Bill Gates praises bitcoin and he even said that bitcoin is better than fiat currency. He even has integrated bitcoin with Microsoft Office features. This explains that even there are no articles telling us that Bill Gates is investing in bitcoin , his words and support on bitcoin is a clear statement that he probably is investing on this wonderful currency which is the bitcoin.

Since there are many reasons , but I think the main reason is that he is already a big earner in the world and I don't think that he need or he wants to earn more because money is enough  if you live your life with simple enjoyment .
But still think if he will out his money in the cryptocurrency then it is not good thing at all because he has many types of sure 100% profit gaurranty giving work in offline and no risk of money at all  , so why he needed to take risk with his life te income .
Moreover here it may be possible that the new coimay get launch by him like blry , trump coin ,.they can launch own coin and can make a big earnings like a big earner without any risk and with small investment .

Some people are thinking about that Bill Gates doesnt use Bitcoin because of his richness , but the problem about the idea that very rich people like Bill Gates should invest their money on Bitcoin in order not to earn more money, in order to support development of crypto world.

I really do think that he is secretely investing some of his wealth into bitcoin.

Because bitcoin is something that rich people can hide their wealth in. Nobody will knock on their door and ask rich people whether they hold any bitcoin or not. Even if they do ask, it's easy to give a "no" as an answer even when you do hold bitcoin because there would be really no way to prove that is true.

Society expects rich people to be all philantrophists, and bitcoin could be a way to avoid this expectation privately. After all, money that is yours is yours. Bill Gates has said very positive things about bitcoin(search on youtube, there is actually an interview i believe with Mr. Gates about BTC), and it would really make no sense at all if he say these positive things for nothing and not take action himself.

Maybe he is rich enough, maybe he does not want to offend the government by buying into bitcoin. By buying into bitcoin, he will essentially be saying: "I don't trust your administration. The currency is going to collapse soon, so i'm going to dump it on the open market for something better, like bitcoin". This is good if a lot of influencial people are doing it, but if he's the only one then he and his company will face pretty bad consequences.

In fact, he isn't even really that closely linked together anymore. He's basically a mainly full time philantrophist right now. I would argue that using bitcoin is a big step to globalization, and ultimately a higher standard of living worldwide, but he may have other plans for himself. Please respect his privacy and his decision making...

on a side note, maybe he knowns that the NSA has backdoors to cpus that are used in windows computers or even a backdoor in SHA256 encryption itself so therefore he doesn't want to invest in it. WHo knows ;) And how do we even know that he holds 0 btc? Thats a question to think about.

There is no way to know if he actually has not invested in bitcoin and just because he didn't come out to release a statement does not mean he is not involved one way or the other. Even recently I read Microsoft is going into crypto currency which means they would have been eyeing it for long and also point out to the fact that they are already in the game long before some of us even got into the game.

The same reason why Warren Buffet thinks that bitcoin is bad, although he could have made a very good short term profit of over 500% of his initial investment and probably boosted both Berkshire Hathaway's image and bitcoin's image at the same time.

I do think that him or the gates foundation hold some bitcoin. It just doesn't make sense for him to say such good things(and great points as to why someone would want to use bitcoin as well) and not hold any bitcoins.

I would even go on a limb here and say that maybe billionaires buying into bitcoin is the reason why bitcoin went up so much. If they see the future in btc, so should you.

I think that it is clear that Bill Gates does not care about his net worth, or at least as much as we'd think he would.

Reason being, there is obviously no need for more money. More money is crucial to working class people like us, obviously, but to a billionaire and already #1 person on earth in terms of net worth he does not need more. Even if he spends 2 million dollars a year he can still live another 100 years without having to worry about earning anything.

He is far more interested in finding ways to benefit others, and obviously his image will be boosted as a result and his legacy can be carried on. As BTCNey said, he seems to show a genuine interest in using btc and getting others to use it too. I would say that he holds at least 100 BTC. I just don't think that he doesn't.

Hey. Who says Bill Gates doesn't invest money in bitcoin? I'm not saying he is, but no one says he's not investing. Not because he didn't announce that hes investing it doesn't mean he doesn't.

It's very possible that he doesn't invest on bitcoin though. If not, I'm sure hes invested a bit on other altcoins. Probably Eth? For dapps? Probably Siacoin for storage reasons of windows? Golem for processing power reasons? It can be any altcoin. He just probably doesn't want to hype that certain altcoin. :P

Why don't you ask him?It may be his personal choice.There are millions of millionaire who have not invested in bitcoin or even if they or Bill Gates have put their money in btc,they might not want everyone to know about it.Probably they want to keep it secret.

First of all if you are rich doesn't mean you don't want to become richer. Secondly, I don't know why Bill Gates haven't made an investment in bitcoin yet but I remember to have read it somewhere that he showed some interest in bitcoin. He might have some plans to come up with something which might contribute a lot to bitcoin but that's just my guess only.

The main reason I think is because he has retired, and well he doesn't need anymore money what is going to do with more money. If he wants to get into cryptos then that would be for pure curiosity, maybe he just isn't curious enough about BTC yet. 

I am pretty sure that he has Bitcoin or knows someone that is trying to store Bitcoins for him. Bill Gates did state something like he was not against Bitcoin also he stated something like technology is moving fast as well. It wouldn't make any sense for him not to have a little bit of coins on the side.

You never know whether someone invested money in bitcoin or not,Bill Gates might have invested in bitcoin just in case to test how good the technology is but you never know the real truth unless he reveal how much he invested in it,so never judge without knowing what the facts are.

well people like Bill Gates tired of being rich and no need to invest in bitcoin, he might invest but only for tested not to earn profit. However we don't know if he trully invest in bitcoin, on the other hand the price would be skyrocket if he really invest his money in to the bitcoin.

Are you sure that he do not use bitcoin?  Anyways do you want him to buy bitcoin?  If he will buy maybe the bitcoin will be extinct and dead for our small time people.  He can buy it all and put it into investment.  Thank God he did not use bitcoin.  And obviously he is too rich to use it. 

Well he's been very positive on bitcoin so he probably has some just to mess around and get familiar with the system. But honestly I don't see him investing heavily into bitcoin. The lad has all the money of the world. Does he really need more? Let him live his life he's worked very hard for it.

as far as I know, Bill Gates is already invested in Bitcoin. He is the owner of Microsoft and it is one of the companies that first acknowledged Bitcoin. He is a brilliant investor and he will not let the chance to skip in investing Bitcoin. For him, it is a good opportunity to earn more in the future.

Bill Gates does not use Bitcoin because he has invested in other projects, he has invested in other cryptocurrencies which are profit. Moreover, maybe he does not want to invest Bitcoin, that's all.

And may in fact be even truer, i.e. if you become insanely like Bill Gates, earning more money may lose any sense and appeal to you. If you are still young (like Zuckerberg or the Winklevii twins), you may want to pursue other interests where money would play only a secondary role and be a tool (one of the many) of achieving your goal. In this way, investing in Bitcoin is not a very interesting occupation unless you specifically go for profits. So why Bill might be interested in that?

i agree mate microsoft already knew the existence of bitcoin and i can't imagine nor believe that the owner itself would not take the opportunity

Bill Gates is a Warren Buffett type of investor

Even though he had been the head of a hi-tech software company himself (he is no more, just in case), the kind of company which stock Warren Buffett dislikes and prefers to stay away from. Bill Gates is rumored to have heavily invested in silver mines, so I can't really fathom that he would be interested in such an asset as Bitcoin despite the fact that he created a company which at least allegedly pushed some innovation (at least, in 80's and 90's). Apart from that, Bitcoin is not closely related to the business of Microsoft (software development), so there is no reason to think that Gates might be interested in Bitcoin just because he was the head of Microsoft

This may be true, if you look at the market cap one year ago you will see that we were close to 10 billion for all the cryptocurrencies we are now at 114 billion that is more than 10 times the previous cap in a year what if some rich people have decided to invest heavily in crypto at this time with the hopes this becomes a trillion dollar market in the future? Bill Gates has declared himself an active investor and is very concerned about bitcoin development, but he doesn't carry the microsoft name in this regard. There are many reasons why microsoft does not use bitcoins, some of them because the US still doesn't recognize bitcoin as a legitimate payment, bill gates will trip over the problem if applying it.

I wonder why people are answering this like they know if Bill Gate owns bitcoin or not. Maybe I am behind in the news anyway, but I have not seen it anywhere that Bill Gate came out to state that "hey peeps, I do not have bitcoin" OR "I have a wallet loaded with coins". It is his life and decision to make and we all don't know if he has bought some coins for himself or not, so why raise the assumption that because he is very rich, he doesn't have a wallet filled with some bitcoin no matter how little.

There are some millionaires that are open with their bitcoin investments, but many of them don't even handle their own money. They have people for that. Put 1 million here and 1 million there and their brokers are handling the rest.
People like Bill Gates could have their money in cryptocurrencies and not even know it. They just get monthly reports where their funds are divided into low, med, and high risk investments and cryptos fall under that third category.

Bill gates is not using bitcoin because he just want to make investment in bitcoin and he want it for long term and we all know that bitcoin already invested in bitcoin a few years ago and for sure he already made a lot of money in bitcoin and his company is accepting bitcoin as payment and for sure it is directing to a cold storage wallet which is made for long term storage.

But I disagree that investors, and especially those who built their wealth via investing in, say, stocks, don't care about or don't know the assets where their money gets poured into (unless they retire from the business, of course). Even the same Bill Gates is known to have been investing in specific silver mines (though he didn't build his wealth like Warren Buffett exclusively through investing), and I will never believe that he had nothing to do with that (it is possible that Warren Buffett himself advised him to invest in silver). Indeed, he didn't peruse through financial reports and statements of every silver mine in the world all by himself, but his investments were certainly not in the way as you are trying to make it look (they "could have their money in cryptocurrencies and not even know it")

I'm not so sure about that, Microsoft is a company created in America and the US laws can be very broad in its application, even if a subsidiary in another country did something, microsoft will still be liable in the US too, that is why US companies are very cautious to try to not provoke the ire of uncle Sam.

He's a businessman and I guess he has bitcoin and not just informing the public. Maybe he is just reading updates about bitcoin and also monitoring it when he has spare time. Possible that he has no bitcoin too, because I have read somewhere that studies says, if there was a $1,000 infront of him, he is not going to pick him up because the seconds that will be used for picking up that money will lose him $2,000.

He will become rich ? I think he is already rich with his millions of earning everyday from the users who bought's his product like windows operating system and Microsoft utilities. With his company being one of the the top tech companies in the world who provides operating system that has been distrubed for almost a decade and with it's added revenue feature in their new os windows 10 that would increase his net worth to trillion. I guess he doesn't want to invest in bitcoin because he it's a waste of time and want to focus in his business instead but who knows.

That depends on the way you bought your bitcoin, if you bought through an exchange, like coinbase, with a credit card then your bank knows that you bought bitcoin, the exchange know that you bought bitcoin as well, and probably your government knows too, the average person is not going to know but you can bet that all of those that are powerful know you did buy bitcoin.

There is an interesting story from a guy named Sakip Sabanci who is one of the richest business man in Turkey(RIP, he was also a great charitable man). Before i tell the story, please note that his family´s fortune is over $8 billion which is 15 times less than Bill Gates.

He says that due to an emergancy he once needed to take a cab. When he arrived his destination he realized that he had no money in his wallet. So, he had to apology to driver and give him his personal number. He also added that the driver didn´t want to take money and said it was okay when he apologied(He was a very much loved person among Turkish people). He said that the driver never called him back but he found him since he wrote down the car number.

This story was told on a TV interview after facing a question about how much money he had in his pocket. He never had any and he said that it´s because he never needed money. People like them are too rich to use currencies in daily life. It might be difficult for us to understand it for the rest of us.

Yeah that's really true. That man has already reached a level which is completely in hormony of beautiful life. He doesn't need anymore money and he would create something but won't invest his money into anything like bitcoin. It is just funny to read or hear that Bill Gates doesn't want to use Bitcoin because of those reasons but he invested big time on Ethereum which happens to also have a value that goes up and down a lot compared to the local currencies.

Nobody gets tired with his money and it is really good that he is spending some of his fortunes for the poor,since he is a technology genius i am sure he has invested or even tried bitcoin as i have seen him talking about bitcoin and its prospects in the past and so you never know what kind of investments he had made in bitcoin so far.

Personally, I don't see a single reason why he should be. He didn't invent this technology, and there is no way he could steal it (like it happened so many times to so many technologies in the past), therefore Bitcoin is certainly not his thing by any means. I don't think he might be interested in Bitcoin on purely investment grounds, Bitcoin is just too small and marginal for someone of his caliber. As you can see, apart from idle interest, there is nothing in Bitcoin that could attract Bill Gates to Bitcoin like shit attracts flies. Or like honey attracts bees
