Hi everyone. I apologize for the delay in responding here. I was pushing very hard to get the code tested and ready by the Fourth of July (happy birthday America!), and needed to catch up on some sleep.

Thank you. I have been setting up build systems over the past couple of days and should have Linux/Mac/Windows wallets ready this weekend. I don't have access to a Windows system to properly test the Windows builds, but I'll provide the binaries and maybe somebody else can help verify that they are fine.

Hey guys, a few people brought to my attention that the Mac wallet was not executing properly. It looks like the build relies on dynamically linked boost libraries. I'll try to get this fixed today.

In the meantime, if you are trying to use the Mac wallet, please install homebrew. See: https://brew.sh/

After installing homebrew, you will need to install boost.
1. Open a terminal.
2. Type: brew install boost
3. The Magacoin wallet should now work properly.

I've tried in Linux Mint and Win7.
I've never solo mined before so i'm assuming it's something wrong in that regard. I've got a wallet running in server mode in Win7 and am trying to mine from Mint on my local network. Getting this:

Did you properly configure rpcuser and rpcpassword on the wallet? I believe on Windows, it's located in %APPDATA%\Magacoin\magacoin.conf.

Is Windows firewall enabled? It may be blocking port 5332. Try running an nmap.

You should be able to compile the Linux wallet; it looks like you were able to compile the magaminer software.

Took me a while to figure out, but I finally did.
I have a few computers at home and at my Mom's house.

I port forwarded correctly and all... but for some reason none of the computers at my Mom's house (remote location) were finding blocks.
I fixed this by adding  (--no-longpoll --no-redirect --no-stratum) to the miner batch file... without the ( ) of course.
And then I also did this to my magacoin.conf:

rpcuser=test
rpcpassword=test
rpcallowip=0.0.0.0/0
rpcworkqueue=64
maxreceivebuffer=300000
maxsendbuffer=60000
rpcthreads=240


Not sure which of these things fixed it, but something did.
Before I did these changes, if I would go to my wallet's 127.0.0.1:5332 it would say that the work queue was full... now it never says that and all the remote location computers produce mined blocks!

And it is working great over my dynamic dns if anyone was wondering about that.

Hi all, I'm new to mining and have magaminer running smoothly on a mac using the following magacoin.conf:

How do I change rpcallowip to allow more than one connection on port 5332 so I can add another mac to mine? Thanks and MAGA

Thanks StealthDad, I figured it out by plugging in the individual subnet ips and adjusting my magacoin.conf accordingly. Now I have a different problem: I'm getting periodic "json_rpc_call failed, retry after 30 seconds" errors. It'll hash fairly well for a few minutes, then give me the error, then hash again, error, and so on.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: fixed!
I had the wrong final digit in the subnet; all is working well now.

Mine was doing that until I added this to the conf:

rpcworkqueue=64
maxreceivebuffer=300000
maxsendbuffer=60000
rpcthreads=240

AND this to the batch file:
--no-longpoll --no-redirect --no-stratum

Let me know if that fixes it.

That doesn't look good, it seems like they may be trying to scam users out of BTC by impersonating this project. I don't know. I'd recommend everyone to stay clear of that.

Please do not use 0.0.0.0/0 as that allows everyone on the global internet (assuming you are NAT/port forwarding) to execute RPC calls against your client which is a very big security risk. Instead, I'd recommend that you hardcode all other IPs individually; if not on your private network, use their public IP, ie.

rpcallowip=8.8.8.8
rpcallowip=192.168.1.0/24

1. Download the windows wallet. Run it and let it sync. Shut it down.
2. Make a new configuration file or change the one that is already in the file folder C:/local disk/Users/(your user name/AppData/Roaming/Magacoin. Use the examples in this thread.
3. Download the miner. Now, you can either run it from the windows command line using the code from earlier in this thread or make a batch file, like earlier in this thread, in the same folder as where you unzipped the miner files.

My conf file:

My bat file:

minerd.exe -o http://127.0.0.1:5332 -u ****** -p ****** --coinbase-addr=(your wallet address here)


4. Start the wallet and let it sync again with the new conf file. Shut it down and restart once more.
5. Start the miner. It should show you the hashes per thread now. If you get some error messages, go back and check your batch and configuration files and make sure the information matches in each file.

There are a lot of coins that are scrypt mining, but there is no code yet for using scrypt ASICs or GPUs for mining. Just CPU mining right now. I hope it stays that way. Most CPUs are within a few GHz of each other and most are the same number of cores whereas ASICs and GPUs can vary greatly, allowing the people with money (globalists) to get all the coins from the us (middle class).

I mined at your pool for about 10 minutes. Never saw my worker show up in the list and found a lot of blocks. How long to update page to show workers and what is the payout time?

I too mined for around 30 minutes, saw my address in the workers list, but it then disappeared and I never more saw it there again, any clue why?
I did receive some magacoins in my wallet after a bit though...

Same, I did receive coins but my address disappeared. So the pool seems legit.

What is the benefit of mining?

If you mine early, you can get a lot of coins before people pick up on it.

getting a "stratum_subscribe send failed" error

Payout frequency is 10 minutes with a 50 coin minimum threshold for payout.

The blocks do take a while to confirm since it needs 31+ confirmations on the network before the funds become added to the wallet.

It should show up pretty quickly on the list, not sure why it didn't. This is currently pretty much a normal install of UNOMP with some minor tweaks to make it compaitble with NodeJS v6 and to understand brick RPC calls, still working on modifying it more.

Are you seeing any other errors before that?

Nah that's all. Tried in my win7 machine and it's working fine however.

What software/OS were you using on the one that failed with the error? Can you paste the command line you were using to run it here? I want to debug and see if I can reproduce the issue to ensure it is not happening to other people too.

Tried in two Linux Mint machines. Both "stratum_subscribe send failed".

My plans at the moment are strictly to continue work on the Magacoin client and surrounding infrastructure, such as the web site which will be ready in a few days. If any one has ideas for Magacoin, please send them my way. I want this to be a community project and welcome input from all.

As for getting listed on exchanges, I feel that is ultimately up to the MAGA community and the exchange operators. I want this to be listed not because I convinced an exchange operator, but rather because the value of Magacoin provided a natural incentive to the exchanges.


Open the Magacoin wallet, click on the 'Receive' tab, and then press the 'Request payment' button. A window should pop up with an address that you can use to receive MAGA.

Don't drag the minerd program into a cmd.

Instead, double click the magacoin.bat file after you open the wallet program.
But first you need to edit the batch file to have

minerd.exe -o http://127.0.0.1:5332 -u ****** -p ****** --coinbase-addr=(your wallet address here)

it it, but with the info you put into the magacoin.conf

and the wallet address can be copied from the wallet program itself at "receiving address"

Thanks stealth. Just remember to put the batch file in the same folder as the minerd application file and make sure the user and password match your conf file. I forgot that one an it took me 10mins to figure it out.

I lowered the payout threshold down to 1 MAGA for now. Once I update the site to show current unconfirmed vs confirmed balance and make it easier to track how close you are to reaching the threshhold then I will update it back to the original 50 MAGA payout threshold

From the command line you posted, you are currently solo-mining which means you won't get any coins until you find a block. You are getting around 28KH/s while the network hash rate is nearing 1GH/s so it will take quite a while before you find a block from solo mining. If you want to use the pool to mine then you should change the command line to have "-o stratum+tcp://pool.onepool.online:5000 -u <wallet public address> -p x" instead of "-o http://127.0.0.1:5332 -u **** -p ****"

It looks like you are solo mining. If that is the case, you'll have to get lucky to find a block on your own.

Yup, your address should appear after a few shares are accepted, I see you in the list now. You will need another program to do GPU mining, since this coin uses scrypt just like Litecoin you can pretty much use any software listed in https://litecoin.info/Mining_software just find one that works for the brand of GPU you have (AMD vs Nvidia)

It can take a little bit for the hashrate to update on the site, it calculates it based on shares submitted  and difficulty so it should report the correct speed after a little while.



CPU mining is going to be rather slow earning, your address should appear on the pool once you have a few shares submitted and accepted by the pool. The reason you are seeing so many work restarts is because a new block is being found on the network which means the old work your computer was doing is no longer valid. It sends the new set of work for the new block causing the mining program to restart using the new set of work. So no need to worry about it, you will see it often while CPU mining since the hashrate for CPUs is so low compared to GPU/ASIC miners.

The ramp up in difficulty was going to happen at some point. While I initially developed the concept of brickwall technology as a humorous aspect of Magacoin, I quickly realized that the resultant incompatibility with existing miners and pools would allow for a better distribution of coinbase rewards immediately after the launch. The idea was that early adopters like you could mine with ordinary CPUs after the launch, and, by the time somebody wrote brickwall-compatible pools or GPU/ASIC solo miners, there would be enough awareness of the project to prevent a single person or two with an ASIC from dominating the mining of MAGA (especially during the early, low-difficulty days). Judging from some of the earlier posts in this thread, it was certainly effective. :)

The reason I decided on scrypt is its status as a well-tested algorithm in the cryptocurrency field. Perhaps a different algorithm could have afforded more time, but GPU farms and ultimately ASICs would have entered the game eventually. I didn't want to jeopardize this coin with a newer algorithm that hasn't been tested thoroughly, and ASIC resistance was never a long-term goal. A good quote from Andrew Poelstra's ASICs and Decentralization FAQ: "ASIC resistance typically involves increasing algorithmic complexity to discourage ASIC developers. However, ASIC's are still inevitable; all ASIC resistance does is increase the startup capital required and therefore increase centralization of manufacturing."

I see your shares and everything in the pool's database, it is just waiting for the blocks to get enough confirmations to credit the funds to your address and payout. You should start to see the payouts come soon as the blocks should start getting confirmed over the next couple hours.

Ya, when I look at https://brickwall.info/ it seems like bricks are being found slower than expected on the network which is likely delaying confirmation time. At 11AM GMT today there were only 4 bricks for the entire hour followed by a 6 hour gap before the next brick was found. This is a lot slower than the expected 2 minute brick time which is why it took so long to get enough confirmations to pay out. Hopefully the difficulty will readjust and bricks will be found faster again so that payouts can happen quicker.

I see that currently almost all mining rewards are going to one address, which is mining with a high hashrate. For me it doesn't make sense to keep mining with 1.4MH when that miner is mining with (currently 265MH). Seems like an ASIC miner?

It appears that there was a sudden drop in hashing power at around that time which caused a long period of time with no bricks being mined. All clients and wallets should have received that warning message until a new brick was mined.

As Komodo Platform has been working around the clock to fine-tune the multiple GUI's that are the face of our Agama multiwallet and BarterDEX atomic swap (https://komodoplatform.com/en/technology/barterdex) protocols, there have obviously been many bugs found and many debugged. However, one bug in particular was found not only in our Agama GUI wallet, but also in the zcash4mac GUI swing wallet. It is a simple bug, but it warrants your attention. This is a potential money cost bug.

MAGAcoin (MAGA) - As a Bitcoin-protocol cryptocurrency, your GUI wallet(s) may be susceptible to this bug.

ISSUE: 'watchonly' addresses appearing as your own in GUI wallet; users could potentially send funds to the address, unaware it is not theirs or available for withdrawal.  You can import <any address> and it becomes a 'watchonly' address. The GUI will display the address as yours, add its funds to your balance, and accept deposits, but cannot be withdrawn. This could be a normal address, my address, a p2sh address, satoshi's address, etc. This can be confusing to an end-user and will lead to many headaches for the developer, as is always the case with misplaced funds.

FOUND: in Komodo Platform's Agama multiwallet (fixed) and zcash4mac GUI swing wallet (@jl777b: "newest QT wallet seems ok about watch only, but not sure of older and when it was fixed")

SOLUTION: For the 'watchonly' address or any address not yours, the value 'ismine' returns false. Any such address gets filtered out.

QUESTIONS:

• How does your recommended GUI deal with watchonly addresses?
• Does your GUI display watchonly addresses as different than actual addresses in the wallet?

We need to experiment a bit to see which approach gets a better response triggering the bug. People WILL lose money if they send funds to a watchonly address.
