Title: Bitcointalk in a mobile app.
Post by: appleffi on September 03, 2017, 01:45:43 AM
I was just thinking since most of the people nowadays are using smartphones in all sorts of activities and all sorts of apps are now being used in our daily routine such as for emails, social media and etc. Can we also develop a mobile app for bitcointalk in both platforms iOS and Android?  for a much better way of accessing this forum.

Please advise if there is already an app or a topic that has already been posted regarding this. I am new to bitcoin by the way.

Quoting a reply I made 2 days ago about this.

No. The only one that somehow "worked" was this one for Android[1]. But it was hella buggy and I couldn't even read posts with multiple pages. Now, it seems that it stopped working because of the new BitcoinTalk login captcha addition.

If I was you, I would wait for the new Beta forum software to get released.

[1] https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.elbandi.forum.bitcointalk

Pay attention at the part where I say that it stopped working because of the new Bitcointalk login captcha. Result: There is no mobile apps atm.

Yes this will be the problem here. Also it will always be having an update if theres a app. Unlike here that direct to the site its more easy and we directly log in with captcha.

we better use the default browser android or other browsers, because if I think when we are in bitcointalk more secure use the browser do not use the application because it is too risky.
indeed if in terms of efficiency certainly in the application will be better but for security I can not guarantee.

I think it needs development since login captcha is implemented in the browser. Also it is better if it has better interface it seems like it looks old. Also some claims it often crashes.

A few days ago I am using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.elbandi.forum.bitcointalk on my android phone for bitcointalk forum. But now it stopped working because of Captcha system.I don't know who is the developer of this apps.but this app was helpful for the mobile user.

I have a request to the forum MOD, please create apps for us browsing bitcointalk smoothly.

they have zero obligation to the forum's users to create a convenient mobile application. it's an idea that's been thrown around for a while, but it's more than likely that its not gong to happen. the most you'll get is an app created by one of the forum users, and even then, people are way too paranoid about having their accounts stolen / hacked by the app (as well they should be paranoid about it) to actually use the app.
in addition, even if it was made in the near future, the new forum software would render that app broken or useless until it was updated to fit the new forum software's design.

Exactly it will be great for us. Nowadays smartphones popularity is increasing very fast. And a lot of smartphone user is using Bitcointalk forum. That's why we need an app for this forum. Already an app shows on Play store. But it is not good. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.elbandi.forum.bitcointalk
I don't know is it an official app or not. But I want an App very badly.

So don't try to log with this app.

for the android version is available in the playstore, just not developed, the version does not make the user comfortable! I myself visited bitcointalk just by going through a normal browser like google chrome! maybe if the bitcointalk forum application continues to be developed will be many users who use it..

well just like others say it's a web based forum, but i think it's fun to have an app for bitcointalk forum since its gives better accessibility and conveniency for the users. Well it needs development though, lets just wait if the owners implement it.

I agree with you. This app doesn't secure I think. Because it has not the trustable security system. It has some bug. It reviews not so good, only 3.1. Download only 75 times. So it will better to avoid log on this app.

Well, it will really be a very good improvement if the app errors can be fixed. The captcha bug issue has been general. I for one will really appreciate if it can be fixed and all future/anticipated issues put in check. Bitcointalk in app will be best for all especially when in transit and postings made with ease.

I don't that it's better if we do that because it's harder to understand the forum with that. It looks like a website for Java Phone ;D . Just open the forum as is on a browser.

How come that having an app for this forum will make it faster to access?  There has been no change when you open the forum on Phone compared to the PC. So why complicate things and make some hassle to the admins.

you can still acces bitcointalk on a mobile phone or any device as long as you have a internet browser app and has a javascript function  because it is required to login on the forum and also i see that theres a  bitcointalk app available on the google play store and i actually try it and works like charm but i would still prefer the web version to browse this site.

i thought it also, some features wont work properly and it is also its hard to see the full page of the forum if they put it all in the app and also some said that thers is no javascript on the unofficial bitcointalk app , so theres no way that you can login and acces the site plus your also prone to malwares and viruses when you use untrusted app that does not came from the site itself.

It was already said here that this app is old and no longer support. It works terrible so nobody uses it. Any updates on this topic? What do you think about creating a campaign in which we would raise funds for creating such app? I understand that a new forum software is being developed and it's mobile friendly but we don't know when is it going to available for everyone.

Please advise if there is already an app or a topic that has already been posted regarding this. I am new to bitcoin by the way.

I just instelled mobile app for bitcointalk on google play. But also, was afraid to log in there.

What do we want? An official app!
When do we want it? Now!

you cant login to that app  now , as you see lately the bitcointalk.org forum has updated and they'v been added a new feature which requires javascript to run and solve the captcha in able to login to your account and acces the forum and that bitcointalk app on the playstore has not yet been updated by their developers and they dont yet support javascript.

I think that there are many applications that support Bitcoins. I downloaded one and it's Bitcoin Buzz to keep myself update. There is a feature there directing to this forum. But it is very loggy, I prefer using web directly. Even though I still use the application, through web is much faster.

I don't think an app is necessary. It would be better to make this website responsive or at least 'mobile' friendly. The current website is almost unreadable on my 5.5" screen because of the tiny letters.

I don't think there will be need for any app since we can get all we need through browser which can be done on both desktop, laptop, and smartphone. Most of my post are done through my smartphone of which am comfortable with the use of browser. Please can tell us some of the advantages in using App over browser.

Actually bitcoin has a mobile app, try searching it on playstore. I installed it but deleted it right a way because it is not well developed, you can use that as a guest, you can read topics and discussions there but the app won't allow you to open your account.

Bitciontalk is just web based as others said above. But this forum is built with SimpleMachinesForum which is compatible with tapatalk. So, you may try "tapatalk" mobile app to browse bitcointalk and even some other forum via a mobile app.

Actually, all of these "talks" are worthless if it doesn't reach to theymos, any high bctforum staffs or even a high trusted forum member. They are the one that should make, contribute and give a go sign for the app to be made as official and to give assurance to users that the app wouldn't do any shady practices like log recording. Knowing who the developer is really does matter on the success of the app.

If the developer is a random guy here on bctalk (without any connections to bct forum itself), would you use it? Given that there is a risk your account may get compromised?
Hell no, right?

I'm sure o team can get together and develop an app like e.g. Reddit. Perhaps even with a crowdfunding.
It would be great if there was a mobile app. Lots of times I'm not behind my desktop/laptop and I need to post a reply on the community thread. Mobile is not exactly php forum friendly, even with a large screen ;).

There won't be any app even after the new forum software is released. Why would this forum need a mobile app? Epochtalk is already responsive (scalable, optimized for all screen sizes). Try visit beta.bitcointalk.org from your phone ;)

Because IIRC the new forum will have an API, so anyone (or a selected group of people) will be allowed to create apps if they want. With the current forum software, there is no API and you can't perfectly scrape from the forum since bots are blocked by cloudfare and reCAPTCHA.

That's a good idea, but I guess there would be a lot of adjustments to be made to develop such mobile app, like the other guys talking about the "buggy" thing. I'm good with just using a mobile browser in my phone when I'm outside. I get notifications from my Gmail account whenever I receive personal message and other activities. So, I guess using mobile browser is pretty fair and I think mobile apps isn't necessary anymore.

The forum ia still growing and is just doing fine. I heard this forum gets enough fund for maintenance only. If you notice the ads are limited so the site remains clean. An app surely needs some fund allocations.

we better use the default browser android or other browsers, because if I think when we are in bitcointalk more secure use the browser do not use the application because it is too risky.
indeed if in terms of efficiency certainly in the application will be better but for security I can not guarantee.
It will be more secure in the mobile application than in the browser because browser lets you save your credentials on different websites even if you used a laptop or a computer to log-in to a certain website since most of us sync our Gmail to various devices we handle. Unless you make sure that your browser will not save it or disable the Google Password.

If there is such an app, it would be nice for all the users since I think all of us have smartphones. WIth this some kind of app we'll have an easy access through our forum and no need to wait to load a page from a browser that even take some time. We also find it as a drag and although we are used to it,... its still a hassle thing to do thats why we already have it in our bookmarks to load it eventually. I just hoped that in the future time the admins will create an app for the forums accessibility for the users.

The bitcointalkforum is one of the mobile friendliest forums. You just should use the right browser in the right way.
Working mobile browser for Bitcointalk:
- Opera Mobile
- Google Chrome Mobile
- Default Android Browser
- Penguin Browser
Open Bitcointalk and make a shortcut to homescreen. So you have your app.
If you don't want to scroll left and right, then use Opera mobile or penguin. Posts are fitted to screen with smooth site interface.

not a bad idea since a lot of people nowadays are using bitcointalk daily and they need some app which easier to use better than the browsers but to make this idea real you have to get the access to the database of the forum means it is required to have the access to all personal information of every user in the forum such as passwords and emails, which impossible and the only person capable of this is Theymos.

It will be great if this will happen. By the way, the site works perfectly on a browser so adding an app might be redundant. I am satisfied with the forum even if its on chrome. If they will create an app there should be additional features that can't be done using a broswser. I think they can add an feature were there is a word count on everytime we write or reply to a topic. Its really needed. If its already available, please let me know. That will be a huge help. Thank you.

Even the site works perfectly on a mobile browser, the only thing that I can do is to read threads and posts. I still prefer using a laptop or desktop when posting, as it makes my life easier to navigate the forum and browse crypto-related news and events which I can share on this site, that will make my posts more meaningful and interesting to others. A mobile application of this site will become handy for those members that are on the GO, in order to keep track of the threads that they follow and be updated within the forum.

I like the idea of having a word counter when making posts. But, I do think it will make the poster much more aware of the word count rather than quality, sense, uniqueness, and idea.

I don't think that having a BCT mobile app is necessary because I am already accessing the forum nicely without any problem. All the basic things I can do such as posting and reading threads. But if you are looking for things such as making my post more effort such as putting images and editing the post design is not a good idea if you are making it in the phone as it could add more time compared to making it in your computer.

As far as I know, there's already a mobile app existing and you can download it in the playstore but I I'm not sure if it's legit or just a phishing app. (Check it for yourself)

Having a mobile app is a good idea because it provides new option for all of us and many users who access this forum through their smartphones will now enjoy a simpler interface of the forum. But honestly this is not necessary anymore since it also works well in mobile browser (zooming in and zooming out is not a big deal) and besides, I guess using a mobile browser is more practical than the app. Like for signature campaigns, you only need to open a new tab for downloading the avatar comparing to the app where you also need to open a browser in order to download it and go back to the app itself, greater load of work right?

Exactly, one point shoot. everytime you download apps on playstore, it needs additional storage to be used, you can install the app, either on Sd card storage or internal storage but both need to be cleared data everytime it gets overloaded. application and web based site same needs internet connection or data connection, so why not use browser instead application suggesting only, it depends on your choice but there's an app that still needs to be fixed.

Guys - relax.

There will be no mobile app until we move to the new forum.  Why make an app for this old outdated software?

Valid reason, makes sense. Any idea when the new forum/website would be released?

We really cannot tell when would the management do it. If I am not mistaken late 2016 they have been doing beta testing for the new forum. People were giving feedbacks and keep on asking the mods when would theymos release it. Most of the establish member were also saying that it might be released on the mid or late quarter of 2017 but it doesn't happen. In the end it still boils down to the management decisions.
All we can do right now is to wait for the further notice and be patience

That old school forum thing actually feels nice in 2018, but I really have some problems with captcha even in Google Chrome mobile sometimes. Nice app would be nice though..

I do not think there's any application yet ..
I am also waiting, I think this forum would be better if it had its own application, there are notifications etc so it makes it easier to monitor post made, if for now, when we make a post and there is a comment we can not know if not make post the. unfortunately :(

So the application is an official one or not?

Anyway a mobile version would be enough, not necessary need a specific app.

I think that is a one good idea. If there's an apps of bitcoin in adroid or smartphones we are easy to post in their and do more activities.
We can read more news faster than now. I hope someday we got an apps in bitcoin.

I think there is no apps for bitcointalk forum and we dont need anything like this, this forum is not for everyone.
This forum is unique,  and this forum has different use for different types of users. I dont think so an app will handle all this smoothly as it smooth as web version.

Your offer is not bad. But this forum is easily used in any browser. Where apps are subject to loading time.Social media loads many images, As a result, mobile loading takes time.

I do not think it's necessary.

For bitcoin news you will find a lot of apps in playstore or apps store. This forum is not only for bitcoin news or posting your update like facebook, it is something else which is only accessible for real crypto currency lovers, who care about crypto-currency and its present and future. So it better to be on a web version.

I don't know why you both made post at there. Here you know you can find the simple website which is not yet updated better. This answer you can find out through out this 6 pages. Why do you guys bumping this thread unwantedly.
There would not be any such kind of apps for bitcoin on playstore. You may see one application which is name with bitcointalk on playstore but that is not a forum's one.

There is no need for a mobile app for this forum, all I need is a notification panel on my dashboard so I can easily go throw all the notifications, because I forget  to  click notify icon when I engage with comment or unfinished interesting topics.

I don't know why would this thread be opened up again, this thread was already been discussed and already had an answer on it. I've put the users that bumped this thread for no good reason into ignore. I really hate to see some of these lurking in here. It would be best if the OP will now LOCK this for some reason many users will also try to shitposts on this.

Hi, cabalism13, instead of saying something like these and replying to this thread, which contributes to its “Bumping”, you can just click the "Report to moderator" to help our community.

I already tried refreshing my page but still I've been seeing Bumped Threads all over the Meta Section. What the hell is going on here in our forum? First the less actions of the MODs and DTs on the reports, and now this? Almost all of the threads in the first page of the META was a Bumped Threads.

Oh god why, it seems that the MODs and DTs have been tired of this shits, that's why we're seeing more shits even now. I hope the new forum will now soon emerge.
I'm always reading on some threads and unluckily I'm hanging around just in here, THE META SECTION, that's why I don't give shits to those threads/comments.
Incessant whining will not help you anything, my friend, it will just result to contribute as “shitpost”. Just chill and read much. Many boards will help you gain more knowledge not just Meta(discussion about the Bitcoin Forum). We are here not just for the forum alone, but the overall knowledge about bitcoin, cryptoworld, and relaxing, so, stop wasting your time on complaining and stressing yourself, just “Relax”.
