Some Q&A

What is a rating?
A rating is a result of analytical assessment executed by our bot Benchy (https://icobench.com/benchy) and the experts. It is not an investment advice and is meant to be used for your informational purposes only. Rating is based on 5 points scale, ranging from 1 to 5 - where 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest rating. The ICObench's rating system is different to that of other ICO rating platforms, as it is:

• calculated using the combination of objective ICO profile analysis and subjective experts' ratings;
• dynamic and updated at least once a day.

How is the ICObench rating determined?
We follow a special rating methodology. Rating is based on a combination of:

• ICO profile rating based on our own algorithm that uses more than 20 different criteria. Each ICO can earn up to 40 points;
• Ratings of the team, the vision, and the product provided by the independent experts following our methodology suggestions. (https://icobench.com/ratings#experts_methodologyrating)

How can an ICO improve its rating?
Although you cannot influence the experts' rating in any way, you can improve your ICO profile rating by improving your ICO Analyzer score:

• Open your ICO Analyzer report;
• Prepare the information that is missing;
• Send us the relevant data via the contact form (https://icobench.com/contact) and our editors will update your profile with the new data or come back to you for some clarifications;
• If you didn't get a good score for the social media and marketing part and all social media links are available on your ICO profile on ICObench, we suggest that you are more active and keep in touch with your potential investors on your social media accounts.

What is the ICO Analyzer?
The ICO Analyzer (https://icobench.com/ico-analyzer) is a free tool of objective report into an ICO profile. It was developed to allow ICO teams to learn more about the potential improvements to bring into their ICO profile on ICObench. The ICO profile rating given by Benchy is based on the report provided by the ICO Analyzer.
The ICO Analyzer provides a report based on availability of data important for investors but not on the quality of the provided data.

How can I update my ICO profile?
At the moment, only ICObench editors can update an ICO profile. Please inform us about the changes:

• Go to our website's Contact (https://icobench.com/contact) section;
• Fill in with accurate data and submit the form;
• We encourage you to provide as many links and information as possible as this will allow our editors to update your ICO profile faster;
• Wait for the editors to update your published ICO and write back to you. Note: We may request some clarifications or more details.

Can I somehow share my rating on my website?
Of course, you can use our free widget (https://icobench.com/widgets) to share your rating on the forums, blogs or your website. Please keep in mind that the image automatically updates the number according to your current rating.

How can we publish our ICO agency on your list of agencies?
You can reach us through the contact form (https://icobench.com/contact) and tell us more about your agency. We will come back to you after we add your agency to the list.

How to report a scam ICO?
We encourage you to report any type of threats - hacking, fraud, scams, attacks, etc. - of the ICOs published on the ICObench. Each ICO profile has a "Report" button that will take you to the contact form. Please provide as much of available information as possible - you can also provide us links to the discussions on forums or channels, such as Bitcointalk or Reddit.
We will take the next actions:

• If there are only suspicions and the accusations are not clear, we will post a notification with a link to a Reddit or Bitcointalk thread where the discussion is going on. This will allow the visitors and the potential investors to read it and make up their own mind;
• If there is an evidence of a team member (or members) being made-up or that the content in the whitepaper, on the website or in the social media was forged or stolen, we will take the action immediately and disable the ICO profile.

Please note that the ICO profile rating and the ICO Analyzer report do not indicate whether an ICO is a scam or not. The automated evaluation doesn't have the mechanisms which could detect frauds or false information.

I suggest you also look into the issues of assurance. This i mean is due to the considerable number of ICOs not meeting up expectation. There are the complains of regulation as well as the issues of none listing of tokens in exchange.

A reputable platform as this can enlarge its coverage into these areas.

This site is one of the most helpful to me when it come to ICOs. Whenever I check a new announced ICO, they already have a rating within a few weeks. I just suggest that you include past successful and scam ICOs and what rate that you have given to them.

Ico rating/review sites is more important now with enormous project pitching their ideas. The ico and post ico are very important. However from September till now how have considered your rating to be efficient. to what extent can we trust the assessment  algorithm?

Our assessment algorithm is efficient and transparent (see the ICO Analyzer (https://icobench.com/ico-analyzer)). But as the number of ICOs is skyrocketing, our primary goal is to reduce the number of ICOs one would even consider to make further research on. We also aim to provide as much standardized data as possible so one's research would be faster. We would still recommend that one makes thoughtful decisions which are not based entirely on ratings.

Hi. How does the Benchy ICO analyzer bot analyze website and whitepaper? For example if some information is in an image (JPG) it will not read it and evaluate as non existent right? For example we have Number of tokens for sale, soft and hard cap and even roadmap as an image for better visual representation. Do we need to change it all to html for the bot to read it? There is no other way I assume? Thank you.

Hello, thank you for your question. The ICO profile on ICObench is based on the project's application and the information found by our editors on the site, social media, and the whitepaper. Our bot Benchy then does an automatic assessment of the data collected which results in the ICO profile rating. You can also update the information in your project's profile once it is published whenever you want using our ICO Profile Manager (https://icobench.com/faq#q-3-8)

Thank you for your quick answer. I see, so it doesn't do actual scanning of the documents and the files? That's a relief because it would take lot of time and effort to change those pics into attractive text to make it looks similar as the original.

All ratings as well as "experts" on icobench site are totally crap....
Non of the high rated ico had good hype after launching on exchanges
ico with lower ratin like bluzelle for instance, had huge hype and to the moon..
remove all "experts" from your site, they no needed with their misleading opinion.... better do rating on ico participant reviews

Experts are rating Team, Product, and Vision. Final rating doesn't equal token's future price on the exchange as this is not something experts can predict.

Your investment decisions are your own and you shouldn't base them purely on reviews.

My score went down 30 points yesterday. I did five reviews yesterday. I always take the time to write something thoughtful whether I like it or it sucks. Can you explain why? I am not going to put in effort into this community if I work on assessing ICOs when I get unexplained drops like this. I was at number four yesterday and today dropped from 80 to 50 for no apparant reason.

I have worked hard to do 65 reviews and all of them have text. I don't just throw in a rating and walk out like other reviewers.   And yes I am hard on some projects. Too bad.

Also there needs to be an option to leave the community - delete profile button, which can remove an experts reviews and profile. Because if I don't understand how it works clearly, I am not going to give my thoughtful reviews of ICOs for free. I'd rather just go back to Blockchain News (which I still am editor at large) and review ICOs there again. I have a lot of experience in this space - having been involved in 35+ ICOs in one way or another.

Christoph Hering is advisor at ICObench.

He is a scammer who conducted the pre-ICO for the Blockpay token. His partner who acted as "CTO" was a serial scammer with a search warrant in the U.S. The funds ended up being distributed themselves. Christoph Hering does not give meaningful disclosure about the accounting, while it is known he sold the ICO funds for BTS having them on his own addresses. With the stolen funds he has a lavish lifestyle with expensive cars etc. He is a no-go in the Bitshares community.

How comes that such a subject is an advisor at ICObench? Did he pay his membership in ICObench with the stolen money from Blockpay pre-ICO participants?

In fact, ICOBench is not bad site, but...
They have lots of scam advisers. My friends who did ICO said that there are advisers that sell ratings. So I hope the Bench will find and ban all of them. Though it will be not easy

The project seems very nice, but I have a problem:

you allow your network of experts to rate the ICOs without providing any kind of textual information.

You do realize that having no minimum characters limit and having no audit for the quality of some of these experts' reviews raises a lot of doubt about the quality of your ratings?

Some "experts" write their reviews and, when asked by the ICO to update it because the ICO has updated their team, etc, they ignore them.

This is also problematic as it could suggest that the experts' review could've been paid by an ICO competitor, fighting for funding with a similar idea, etc.

Now, thanks to you guys not caring about the quality of those expert reviews, these "experts" can manipulate ratings for various kinds of purposes: personal, monetary, etc.

I really dislike this and I find ICOBench rather suspicious as there's no review quality audit and a reviewer isn't required to reassess his rating after an ICO asks him to for good reasons.

The written reviews are quite a recent option and their number is growing at the moment, soon it will reach half of the overall number of ratings. We do not guarantee fast answers from the experts, but usually if you reach them via the social networks, links to those most of experts have on their profiles, they react to the changes faster. We want to also remind you that noone would change their rating for a better one if they see threats and swears coming from ICOs teams.

you've misunderstood my question. The problem IS that you allow experts to post text-less reviews, just ratings-only.

This seems fishy as the expert is NOT required to provide any textual information to explain his ratings, which means - they can rate ICOs without any effort, just by selecting random numbers that seem fit.

A review is worth nothing if it has no text. Look at Amazon products' reviews, etc.

Are you going to force the ICO reviews to have at least 200 character requirement to make sure "experts" don't cheat?

I think this is a good point - voting without giving a written review takes too little effort.
A comment would be fine.

Hello, I'd like to report a bug on ICO Bench, involving the KYC procedure. I tried using the ICO Bench contact form several times but no one takes any steps to resolve my problem. In project theories, they are actually interesting, leaving the postmoderns to practice. It is a great deal of greatness.

I don't like one thing in ICObench - rating. There are several of so-called "experts" who have no idea about the tech behind blockchain and ICO. They are reviewing projects and making grades for each project, but some of them are obviously don't know what project is about.


As for me every "Expert" who is giving ratings on ICObench should be forced to describe his grades and leave a comment, so people can research and follow opinions not just the figures.

Now this rating system is ridiculous, some decent projects has 3.5-3.8 rankings :)

Why does it take ages for expert application get be approved?

I've been waiting for a month already!

The project of course is far from original, in recent months more than a dozen have appeared similar, but the information here was collected mostly relevant, so I will keep track.

I'd like to open a topic on the value of ICOBench's experts opinions and whether some of the are not abusing the rights they have.

I am member of Vernam's team - a promising project running for more than two months now, with upcoming token sale in late May.
When we launched our project, of course the first platform we listed ourselves was ICOBench, as the most respected one on the web.

We started getting reviews by experts. Normally some are good, other are bad. The most valuable ones are helping us improve the project with constructive feedback.

Anyway, there are some reviews that worry us. For example this one:

Obviously Mr. Berger (https://icobench.com/u/reinhard-berger-22208) didn't like the project and we can't blame him. Anyway, he didn't provide any feedback, just the low scores. I decided to make my own due diligence and I found out that:

1. At the time when he rated our project, Mr. Berger was running an ICO himself, as a CEO - Pecunio.
2. 90% of the projects he rated at that time got really bad scores. See:

This makes me think that Mr. Berger used his expert status to harm competition in a really lame way. How will you comment this?

Also, I can see problems with the following "advisors" at ICOBench, who are not picky at all and sell their faces for tokens from every project, that offers to buy:

He has a crazy mix of the all different types of ICOs, simultaneously "advising" 70 (!) projects with an average rating of 3.60. It appears that he just take projects to boost his rating, that just looks ridiculous and pathetic. And several project under his "advisory" look extremely suspicious and have know allegation of scam. Not picky at all to say the least. And none of his reviews contain any analysis whatsoever.

This guy was an advisor for projects like Lydian (100x flop from $5 price during the ICO to $0.05 now) and Worldwide Asset eXchange (6x flop from $2.05 to $0.34). His average ICO under advisory score is even worse, than David Drake's - 3.57. 23 ICOs, 11 running.

His average score of ICO under advisory is 3.40 (15 ICOs). And his only given rate was to a project, which he is a part of, what brakes the ICOBench rules.

This one I'm not so sure about. Yet he was involved in a scam ICO and is currently listed as an advisor for Bitxoxo, which has a lot of scam red flags. 6 simultaneous ICOs (and he has another full-time job, according to LinkedIn), average rating 4.04.

He recently rated a lot of projects, many of which have ended months ago (like Binance, Friendz and many others, which he rated today or yesterday). None of his ratings contain any valuable information.

Probably, he is just boosting his rating to get more weight. It is certainly an abuse of your system and is bad both for the platform and the trust. You shall change that system to avoid this kind of cheaters.

About the email: I can copy all that to your email, but that is crucial to keep such information public, not just between us. It is better for everyone, if development and changes on your platform would by transparent.

Great news, I'm happy to see that needed developments to ICOBench. I hope, that they are not going to stop there, since the regulatory background and the market will keep challenging the ICO industry itself and the ICOBench as it's most renowned proxy.

Currently, the changes mentioned do not look like a final solution for the rates quality problem and the experts' corruption risks, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

Agree with you. Generally ICO ranking websites only include details and information about an ICO project but in ICOBENCH, we can also to earn additional income by selling service capabilities that we have. An advantage that I do not think exists on other websites.

Yes, ICObench is taking lot of measures in order to control the fake ICO's and it is good way to attract the investors by investing into good projects. Review should not be based on money but with the real time efforts of the company and their team.

In my humble opinion, the platform can't be held responsible for experts' frauds and if some packages are overpriced or useless, why even talk about it, just don't use them.
Honestly, I believe one could complain about false ratings by greedy experts or one can be thankful, that such a platform exists. I haven't seen a platform with higher reputation and with experienced and well-known experts (not all, of course).

Though I like constructive critics, the points in the article, in my opinion, are not fair and sometimes even silly:
 If a beautiful jewelry costs a lot, you don't call it a fraud.
Sometimes even advisors don't know if an ICO is going to be a scam. Having only a website, a whitepaper and some photos of the team, you can't make any arguments about the validity of an ICO and the plans of its creators.

Instead of complaining one could build something better and then make a comparison.
By sitting on the sofa and calling names one can't make any impact.

The thing is that the author got angry at us for declining his application for expert. After that the reasons we provided didn't satisfy him so he keeps harassing our support with senseless emails and now wrote this piece where no single word is true. It's just a classic case of 'sour grapes', please don't believe anything that doesn't have any basis for it and do your own fact checking and research.

According to our FAQ: An ICObench expert is an active member of ICObench community that has the right to rate ICOs and conforms to the rules of the experts community. Although the contribution of every expert is valuable, they are not a part of ICObench team, so ICObench is not responsible for their ratings and cannot remove or change them if they comply with the rules of the community.

So we just declined his expert status which we have right to do without giving a specific reason, and such answer didn't satisfy him so you see the result.

We do not move the attention to this person but telling our view of the story, facts only. Instead of accusing us of the lies you could just do the fact checking of his words, as even a shallow analysis of our site and social pages will show you that all of the statements in this post are blatant lies (more that he actually keeps deleting comments to his Medium post those say it and bring the opposite things about all the points) so there are no issues to address. We don't say that our rating system is perfect, but we work on it every day and such accusations only steal our time from making actually useful features for the site and the community.
And yes, as we told in previous post, no single word in that Medium post is true.

Even though the Profile Manager is the way for you to edit your project on your own, some changes need approval from our editors. Usually such changes are accepted or declined minimum once per day.

I do see that some ICO which were rated above 4.5 on your website have got difficulties in getting into major exchanges once the product was launched whilst ICOs rated below 3 gained more visibility and attention in major exchanges like Binance. Is this something you foreseen with your BOT, or it is just a question of chances?
Is rating and listing in your platform a paid service or do you list any ICO regardless? If the former option applies, then there is a conflict of interest!

ico rating sites really helps projects to gets an attention to the investors, wish that those ratings are not manipulated.

As we have not really analysed the data on exchanges yet I cannot tell you anything on the interrelation. But it's a good idea, we will think about including it to our report on trends.
What we can see is that there is a certain interrelation between overall rating on our platform and the chances of an ICO to be financially successful.
Also, as you can see the bot is only giving the rating for the ICO profile, so it evaluates the amount of information provided and activity in social networks. But the rating consists of two parts and takes into account the experts' reviews as well.
Obviously, we do not sell ratings and the standard listing is free of charge, but more than half of applications don't meet our criteria so we don't publish them.
Can you please explain what the conflict of interest is if the listing and ratings are free?

The website is reliable which I am using when searching about a new project, their rating systems are great and the user interface is outstanding. What I am wondering is ICObench collecting money for projects in order to get higher ratings? We have submitted our KYC documents for our ICO. While all the documents were accepted, we "failed" your KYC because

"you have already submitted your documents to another account."?


On that other account, the status says "KYC passed successfully. Your profile will be updated shortly".

However, it's been over a day and there's no change.


We have contacted Sum&Substance, and they say we can't have duplicate accounts. There is got to be a way to correct this.

I have come across affiliation with GoMiner and ICObench, and not just for the general token listing report.

I have suspicion that these two sites are covert affiliates.

I haven't done this test yet, but I feel that the data on all sites share the same API.
Matching MX records are present and there is a characteristic unique to Russian based sites that I won't disclose here, but is a dead giveaway when doing forensics.

I wonder what's going on with ICObench. No update on their website & social media. Probably they have ceased the operation. Any updates?
