The 25,000,000 is being used as the swap reduction supply from the original EDU Coin's ~110 Billion at a 5000:1 ratio. We'll have both block explorers up shortly.

No no, there is no silence on our end. We are working to correct any errors going on. We have added a section to our ANN post specifically addressing this issue. There is a very specific way the pools must configure Keccak pools. We are reaching out to try and coordinate another pool.

I think it's better not to rush. The first thing we need to do is make sure the network is stable.

This is 100% something we are thinking about. Obviously we could easily just throw a coin up on YoBit and get things moving however we are constantly thinking about what our actions convey to the community. We are trying to create something that is MORE than just a coin.

Both of you are right. Your goals are noble and valuable in itself, but electricity costs fiat, mining staff like CPU's, GPU's and ASIC's costs fiat and free time costs something more. Unfortunately, big pools like suprnova works for fee's with coins that cost any amount of BTC on exchanges (the more the better). I think that if EDU won't traded on any exchanges in near future, than we must find lesser pools for a start.

Just for clarification is your miner connecting or is your terminal spitting out any error? Or are you just not finding blocks?

If the blocks are updating and you're seeing nethash updates, you're connected and mining.
You DO have an issue though, in your mining .bat, change "-k keccak" to "-a keccak" and you'll go from "auto" algorithm to keccak and mine a lot faster.

The rest of it is correct and appears to be working.

BTW, if you're using AMD cards I've found intensity 9 to be best with keccak.

We have been discussing this in our Slack channel. Apparently this is very common in the situation where a large group is all solo mining. Most likely someone with higher hash power is pulling the blocks out from under you. We have been making more progress on a pool so hopefully that can solve that problem soon!

Some users reported that restarting the wallet catches up on the confirmations so I'm not sure if it's a GUI bug, I'm looking into it as we speak.

In fact, when restart wallet it'll disappear but the problem is block accepted and my balance credited 5 EDU but then it deducted -5 EDU, it's very uncomfortable feeling. Now i only stake and wait a pool. it already took some coins from my balance  >:(

First question, I take it that you are solomining. It might be easier to just join the pool which is listed right above. We have that posted above and will will be adding all that to our OP and website.

Theoretically we would "lose" nothing however on the flip side what would we "gain" by using ETH? Our primary purpose is to create a coin that honors the original Educoin, helps advance it forward, and promotes crypto education. Mining is still an integral part of the integral part of the cryptocurrency community. We have talked about offering multiple "micro"-chains utilizing multiple methods (ETH included) in the future that would assist in that educational process.

If I have an old wallet.dat, should I use it with this new wallet, or should I used old wallet?

How do I go about accessing funds in my old wallet.dat?

Right now when I try to use it with the new wallet (v1.0.0.0) I get a message:

"Warning: error reading wallet.dat! All keys read correctly, but transaction data or address book entries might be missing or incorrect."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i think you need to use the old wallet for you old wallet.dat and then swap.

We are compiling the old wallet for use, will advise shortly as soon as we have it up!

You need to load your old educoin v1 wallet.dat in the old educoin wallet. Once you have the old wallet and new v2 wallet synced up, you can use our website to swap the coins.

Yes all of this is explained in depth in the WP however in short I can expand here. The NEW coin supply is 55 million. There is a 5000:1 swap for OLD edu to NEW edu and of the 50M we have reserved 25M for that swap.

Un-swapped coins from that 25m will be redistributed to new users/used for bounties/airdrops etc.

Yes, 25 million is correct. We've made the first block worth 25 Million to reduce the old EduCoin v1 supply at about a 5000:1 ratio.

The address with the 25 million coins currently has 3 outbound transactions.

1. We sent 10 as a test to the swap server to verify again everything is working as designed.

2. We sent 10%, 2.5 million to the swap server to begin the swap.

3. We sent a second transaction of 10%, 2.5 million to the swap server when roughly 400k coins we're left from the 1st transaction of 2.5 million.

The rest of the coins are currently in cold storage.

There's roughly 2.8 million left on the server to be swapped.

Now mining is possible only solo. As far as I know, there are no pools yet.

The old wallet shouldnt take TOO long to sync. Bootstrap chain is a good Idea, I will speak to the team and see if we can implement something like that.

We currently have voting up on ccex which is an ongoing entry until we get listed. We also have been speaking with a few other smaller exchanges on how we can get listed.


Pools are still being built. We are running into an error which we believe is preventing the pools from finding the blocks. Solomining works fine. We will keep you all updated as progress is made with that.

I think it is orphan blocks. Someone else finds the block at the same time as you and it is confirmed by their miner slightly faster than yours causing the block you found be orphaned.

Thank for the clarification Envist This is a common issue with solo mining. If someone is mining at a higher hashrate and confirms it just before you did it will end up going to them instead of you.

I feel like I'm the only one mining anymore and stake weight just dropped tenfold.

I'm still mining from time to time. I find it strange how the total hash goes up and down all day, as if a powerful mining rig is going offline every so many blocks then coming back on.

I believe they are trying to find a solution to not being able to have mining pools, so an exchange at this time is probably the last thing that's needed. Gotta sort out the basics first.

They're probably missing founder's reward. Most pool software requires modification to run keccak. Pool or not, the coin is valueless right now yet people such as (apparently) us are paying for it. Mining isn't free and my second rig doesn't pull enough to cover the first.
I like the idea of this coin as education is rather important to me, but mining is a business and I'm running out of encouragement to keep dumping into this coin.
Exchange is the basics, pools come second. People could be valuing and trading the coin WHILE the pool issues are being worked out instead of just costing us more and more.

Reach out to smartcash or maxcoin.

Also, reach out to some universities and get Educoin as a project. Give it meaning.

This project needs more attention, it would be a shame to let it slip away before it's even started. Decisive action is needed and plenty of promotion. Bounties and airdrops work well for that purpose. Having an exchange is crucial and something definitely needs to be done about the mining pool situation asap.

As above, getting in contact with Educational authorities/organisations could be a very good idea. With the right partnerships and a solid use case for the Educoin currency, this could really take off. Just needs some tlc.

My comment wasn't directly about Cryptopia. I use it for one altcoin and don't really have a 'preference' other than exchanges should have volume and every coin I've used cryptoptia for, it was the top exchange for the coin at the time. I have membership in a half dozen exchanges, so who really cares about that. I'm a miner. I mine. If your coin is worthless, miners leave.
The actual POINT I was making is that DEVS are responsible for listing THEIR coins. You want it to be successful or a shitcoin? Shitcoins are listed by miners who want to pull out of your network.

Conf and .bat look fine other than the -a hsr. EDU runs keccak.

1. Run Wallet until it is fully sync'd
2. Change .bat '-a hsr' to '-a keccak'

3. Read what ccminer tells you.
3.a. If ccminer closes, the .bat file has an error.
3.b. Add 'pause' as another line in your .bat and run again to view errors.

Nova is changing management. No longer a viable option.

I personally think that dev's this kind of behavior is very great, in the education way to let more people understand the advantages and disadvantages of encrypted currency, combined with some application of the real life, can let a person more understand, there is the mainstream encryption currency will in the future.

So the original 25m coins was generated so that holders of the original coin could claim NEW Educoin. In the whitepaper we explain the reduction in the coin supply and how the swap itself actually works. 5000 Old EDU = 1 New EDU.

As for the the allocation plan. The whitepaper explains the % of allocation of all left over coins. We have chosen to allow swaps up through december. This will allow any stragglers to claim their coinage. After December the left over coins (from the 25m) will be distributed based on the %'s listed in the whitepaper. At that time we will release our airdrop schedule, our bounty campaign and lay out other opportunities to claim coinage!

- Yobit was a premium listing.We did pay them. I have a ticket open with them regarding this, at least tell me WHY it wasnt accepted.

- We are working with a few professors right now in the US and UK on implementation into their curriculum. 

- The pools are still tricky. We have multiple pool operaters who are working alongside our team to try and either make our own pool, join forces with theirs.

We are still looking into the pool issue. We are aware of the difficulties people are having and we apologize for this. Again, our Slack is the best place for up to date info!

Part of the issue getting listed may be the name. Educoin wasn't uniquely named. There's currently an active EducoinV running Scrypt algo that Yobit has listed.
Coingather isn't going to list it without 2500 votes, i'd recommend digging into your dev pockets and covering that. At this point it's likely your cheapest option.

There are a few upcoming exchanges you could enquire about such as Mothership, they haven't launched yet. Seen a few others as well but I can't remember the names haha. You could try Liqui as that's a big new exchange.  Also coinsmarkets, coinexchange etc. They may be small but it's a start. coinsmarkets also support staking, so you can stake the coins while holding them in the exchange wallet. is a Q4 stage already started (already last month of 2017)? Where can I find any services, info.. etc - Proof that these assumptions are being implemented?
... or should I look at this plans in the category of empty promises?

Make sure you are copying it to the 2014 wallet's EduCoin appdata folder.
You will need both wallets to swap. The old 2014 wallet and the new 2017 wallet.
You can download both versions on github https://github.com/Educoins/Educoin-V-1.0/releases
Sync wallets up and visit https://swap.educoins.io to complete the swap.

I went on Slack and asked, was told the Dev would look into and get back to me, this was back on Dec 13th.
Hoping they will looking into it between Christmas and New Years and get back as its not too hard to verify
in the block chain the deposits. Also message sent on the swap website on Dec 11th originally.

I only just found out about this new version of Educoin. I guess I have to get my old wallet synched in order to swap my coins for the new ones, right? That's gonna be a problem then, I guess. ^^

Yes its now the 2nd largest fire in California History!! We are ok, santa barbara, where I am located has had the evacuations lifted. Even with it being the 2nd largest fire in Cali, there was minimal damage/injuries/death. I believe its almost contained.

Sounds like you had a rough few weeks, hope you manage to get things sorted. I had that issue once with Google Auth and I Never want to experience it again. I would suggest Authy instead as it comes with built-in backup.

Update. I am still speaking with Digital Ocean, they are stating that they cant see the CC transactions I made for our droplet.

Also the city i live in was impacted by the Thomas Fire as I mentioned. Last night there were flash floods and entire homes are "missing" we have intermittent power, we cant drink the water (its apparently unsafe to drink now) and its just total chaos. Again I apologize, hopefully things will turn around soon!
