Market manipulation, maybe -- it makes no sense for them to do this given their current political moves they've made with regard to bitcoin.  Strongly doubt this is actually going to happen.

Sad to see that so many countries are against bitcoins. Its probably because governments cant control as much as real money and earn less from taxes.

Haha true. But dont believe until any official announcement is made. Moreover it has been done right at the time when a hard fork is just coming up. Curious to see the reaction of investors. Because if this happens we might see a price decline again.

Its good that they educate the public about the dangers of Bitcoin but can't really agree about the limitation of freedom to make your own mistakes.

If you still think that Bitcoin is safe store of value think what happens when economic depression hits on. Stock market crashes gives you some idea. Mr. Market decides Bitcoins value so in no way can it considered "safe store of value". All it takes is one big whale to start selling and it may lose 75% of its value in an instant.

Totally agree with you. Some of them keep saing that it is a pyramid and gonna be forbidden or it it tool to provide crime activities. Others saing opposite, even they plan to make school lessions about blokhchains and cryptocurencyes to prepare population for new age. We are just waiting for the law they are creating nowadays, they said it is gonna be finished at the end of the year

I agree with you maybe someone wants to manipulate the market to buy some bitcoin at a lower price because they know that bitcoin is going up right now.

It doesn't matter if russia bans it, but it wouldn't surprise me. Russia is a communism just like china, so it makes great sense that they want to control their people. It wont matter really, because bitcoin is designed to be unstoppable. It would take all putins wealth to stop it, and I doubt he would use that much money on it. He'd rather buy 10000 more rockets.

I don't think Putin is interested in stopping bitcoin.  He's endorsed mining operations and probably Russia will become a competitor to China in that.

Communism is really mostly dead, even in Russia and China.  They still have some fascist practices certainly, but they haven't been real Communists in a long time.

1. banning an exchange is not banning bitcoin
2. cryptocoinnews is not a reliable source. they are known to write all kinds of weird bullshit and call it "news".
3. this year, reliable sources have been saying Russia is about to legalize bitcoin the same way Japan legalized bitcoin. this is a quote from the head of Russian Central bank actually. they said because bitcoin is traceable we consider it as legal.
4. nobody cares anymore about country ban FUD. ;)

This is puzzling news and it's actually surprising that something of this sort is actually happening, last I knew that Russia would embrace Bitcoins, I feel there is a manipulation attempt going on, I don't think Russia has such a big share to make any kind of big impact, so let's wait and see. According to a article I read they were inviting miners to open farm and kick start Russian economy. Posting the link, what is happening is so confusing.

Well you are probably right lol. Why there is a FUD somewhere somehow when we are attaining ATH? Well by this, this could mean that bitcoin might go down again or dump? After all the pumps of this coin it will go down again, sadly. But many traders will be happy because of this. I think alts might go up this time around.

While it doesn't mean anything for me, if it's true then Yobit is officially facked.

I won't see that as a ban to bitcoin. They are trying to regulate it as anyone else. I also read on cointelegraph that the Moscow stock exchange will allow it's users to trade cryptocurrenices, so the government is probably just trying to get crypto into safe environments they can control. Maybe this is their way of regulating the market, so I'm ok with it. They could just ask for licenses from crypto exchanges, but I guess they prefer this method.

Anyway if it ever gets to the Moscow stock exchange, that is right now the biggest exchange group in Russia, these are good news for digital currencies, so those "ban news" don't really bother me.

Russia will block access to websites of exchanges that offer cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin? lol. I doubt if this news is real or just another price manipulation by the author of this article.

Well if there is no such ban, sooner or later it will be clear. The website will lose reputation, and as some people said here it doesn't have a high reputation anyway. They cannot reach that many people to manipulate the market.

Also, I know that Russia is one of the most avid supporter of Bitcoin. That's why I was surprised about this news. Nevertheless, Bitcoin there are lots of Russian people supports Bitcoin even though Russian government will ban it.

I'm sure this won't happen. They rather fire the first deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia for making such stupid statements.

I like this comment to the article because it reflects how some people from the Russian government want to act:

Quote
let me translate: "We think that for our citizens, for businesses the usage of such cryptocurrencies as an investment object carries unreasonably high risks" =Cryptocurrency poses as a threat to centralized Banking system which the Gov controls. The Gov has no control over cryptocurrency so we won't allow you to have it
“only qualified investors to buy and sell" = We'll only allow the rich elite to trade cryptocurrency and to get richer and richer

But I doubt they can do it in the modern reality.

It does not mean that Russia banned bitcoin. They just blocked the bitcoin exchange websites under the Russian domains. Aside they blocks the trading sites and the next part the they started mining farm with the huge investment. We don't how to take this. As anton said, Cryptos are not threat to the citizens. It is useful for the citizens actually.

I don't believe Russia will decide to do something like that. There were some similar intentions before but I think that Russia has changed the attitude and realised ban is not in her best interest.
So there is no reason to fear the China scenario although we have witnessed so far that even false or unconfirmed information could affect the Bitcoin price.

No, BTC ban is extremely unlikely now. As far as I remember, latest ideas were to allow only regulated financial institutions to exchange bitcoin to fiat and back (and ban non-regulated exchanges) and make miners to pay taxes.

The Russian government seems to be too indecisive about cryptocurrencies. Earlier the head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina had said that they will not allow the use of crypto-currency as a surrogate money. Soon after this, the Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov had said that there is no point in prohibiting cryptocurrencies and that they will regulate cryptos by the end of 2017. And now the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia, Sergei Shvetsov has stated that Russia will block access to websites belonging to cryptocurrency exchanges. Looks like a ping-pong between the Russian finance ministry and the central bank.

Well, sometimes things are not very clear till they are announced! We can't really rely on this because I think only time will reveal the truth behind this matter. And people should stay away from spreading negative FUDs because that's what normally devastated value of bitcoin in the past. Sometimes "Big Whales" set up a speculation that end-up with negative FUD which might hurt the value of bitcoin and other coins as well in order for them to buy some coins more cheaper from the people that panics. I think people should be very careful with what they are saying about bitcoin because the value is still recovering. 8)

Probably it was anticipated that what Bitcoin brought would be detrimental to the government and the central bank. It is normal for Bitcoin to be banned in some countries. They do not control it so they can not accept it. So they turned around and started banning it, they were afraid of it developing and losing the advantage of their money

No. They are not indecisive about cryptos. They are really against it from the very beginning that's why you will see that they are really assert the opposite of a statement made by someone in their government. And I'm very skeptical from the start of them opening their mouths for bitcoin. And this statements validates my hutch. So don't trust anything coming from them and I'm expecting that they will not support any crypto's, not bitcoin and Ethereum, which Putin says he like. LOL.

All that I read from another article is the banning of bitcoin within the country by Russia longback and later with the help of an financial research team analysed the need of the blockchain technology and now this has got implemented into their financial administration.

whether this will be repeated in russia, all remains a big question mark as bitcoin prices are now rising,
hopefully this is just a news nonsense that makes everyone panicky..

He is a big supporter of Vitalik and Ethereum, if you look at media reporting : https://www.coindesk.com/vladimir-putin-vitalik-buterin-discuss-ethereum-opportunities-recent-forum/

The Russians are cunning enough to ban one Crypto currency in favour of another and I will never put this past Putin. You

can also not believe anything that are being reported there, because it change from day to day, depending on what mood

they are in.  ::)

According to me whether that happens is also not worrying. Let's look at the ban in China bitcoin prices not dump.

Russia are just blocking the web based exchanges of Bitcoin, I believe they are not banning it completely. Even I think they might be regulating it and bring out systematic and tracked exchange.
Recently there is news that China will or might resume cryptocurrency trading by licensing exchanges and implementing (KYC) Know Your Customer and (AML) Anti-Money Laundering systems.

So I hope Russia will be starting to regulate the exchanges, trying to curb corruption and illegitimate activities.

If the Russians try to ban the exchange websites, then it will be a very stupid move. Nowadays even the schoolchildren are aware of VPNs and web-proxies. The Bitcoin users are not going to be affected if the government blocks the exchange websites. But it will become harder for the Russian authorities to track the users and to tax profits on Bitcoin.

In two years I can't count how many threads I saw about Russia banning bitcoins, arresting people who using bitcoins, and what happened from all that rumors, I will tell you nothing happened.
Like recent situation with China, what happened in the end? They will have couple legitimate exchangers, same will do the Russia. Russia is supporting China in everything they do with crypto currencies, now it will be the same, they will ban some exchanger sites and they will support others that they can control, that is how they dictatorship governments like to do.

I heard about these many days ago that Russia will be banning bitcoin and I even heard that Russia was trying to get of hold of the bitcoin in their own country. If Russia bans bitcoin it can create a problem for bitcoin to reach 5000 dollars or if after reaching 5000 dollars the ban may lower the value of bitcoin or slow the growth.

If this is true, Russia will fail to stem the rising tide of cryptocurrency usage and popularity. Rather than move backwards, the Russian government should embrace bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and figure out ways to capitalize on their growth. Banning it will only encourage underground use.

Russia has been trolling everyone here for years, and yet people get affected by whatever Russian statement. Bitcoin doesn't rely on one or several countries -- if Russia wants to play hard to get, then let them do that, Bitcoin won't give a single damn. If you're really shocked, maybe you should spend some time into learning about why governments and banks don't like Bitcoin.

If a whale starts selling the coins, we might see price drop. But as soon as the price starts to drop, new investors will get an opportunity and start investing and join the game. This will cause the price not to fall down freely, balancing out the situation. No ways the price will go below 75% of the current value.

Russia is doing the same thing as China has done in last month. They are going to ban exchanges, not the bitcoin. This is in favor of bitcoin, not against it. Bitcoin is copeting with all other alt-coins, I guess Russia does this to sustain the appreciation of bitcoin. After what China has done last month in favour of bitcoin (by banning all ICO's and all exchanges), Russia is coming and is continuing this trend. Now Russia is more progresist than USA, and they make all they can to help improve the bitcoin and impose it on the market.  Bitcoin is the future and all Asia and Eastern Europe has recognized this.

In Russia we keep hearing contradictory statements. It all depends on what mood woke up Putin. I generally don't pay attention to their statements. Russia is a big country in size but the population is small. They can not affect the market of bitcoin. I don't think they're ready now to ban bitcoin. Russia's economy shows steady decline in and so nobody will deprive people of the opportunity to provide for themselves. Why do they need food riots?

I think we should verify this news first, it seems to be a lot like China again. We already know that Russia wanted it's cryptocurrencies to be regulated, and why would they ban Bitcoin in the first place,  they have one of the best mining conditions there is, and not to mention a cheaper price of electricity, I think there is more reason why they will keep Bitcoin and regulate it. We need to clarify this news first, since seems to be looking a lot like what had happened in China,  whenever there is a fork, some media men, tend to scare people and in the end will cause panic.

The russia central bank tried to ban the bitcoin since the bitcoin become a popular cryto in 2013. I can't say that I'm surprised when I saw this news. But Russia often changes their position about bitcoins and it's interesting, how serious they are now. If they will block btc exchanges - it really means ban of btc vice versa. But maybe, they will change position again and just will start regulate crypto exchanges more strictly. I don't believe that recent news is final decision. Only few months ago Putin talked positive about Ethereum, so, such ban would affect negative this currency in Russian markets. It is possible that china is putting pressure on russia to conform to similar guidelines regarding crypto. Hopefully in the long run this will motivate russia to seek ways to become more independent from china & in the future russia won't have to worry as much about being manipulated by outside foreign influence.

What makes things hard are the economic sanctions the united states and UN have placed on russia which makes it more reliant on china and others for trade. That's likely where the leverage for russia seeking to regulate crypto comes from, if the recent news is true.

Hahaha. Right. Sometimes when Putin was in a good mode, he will preach good words for crypto which he likes. But now it looks like they have put the ban just like their brother China. I also agree that they won't be putting any significant dent as compare to China. Although they are really active but I'm not familiar on their volume trading. I agree that Russia is not trying to ban bitcoin per se, but is rather trying to regulate it, just as China is doing. There are potential problems with tax evasion, money laundering, and fraud, though bitcoin is clearly here to stay and is too decentralized to fully control. Russia is just not sure at this point how to handle the problems. Over time cooler heads in Russia will prevail and a middle ground will be found.

Before if I'm not mistaken, it's dated last year there's a news that Russia did banned bitcoin and then removed it later on. I can't remember the source of that rumor but now it's for real so the Central Bank of Russia thinks that bitcoin is a dubious instrument for the retailers. I think it has something to do with the Russian male suspected of the $4B money laundering caught in Greece. But I think Russia will not entirely ban bitcoin and besides it is stated that they are only banning exchanges. They will not do what China did and that I think someone's manipulating things now that we're close to 5K again. Expecting the worst, if they do ban btc I think that people now realized how btc came back from the dip so only the newbies will be shaken by this kind of news.

Russia has always looked badly in digital currencies, and those services can attract regulators' attention, which means they will impose heavy regulation or perhaps even propose closures. The government will even propose a prison sentence for those using bitcoin

The good thing is they care for the public about the limits of freedom to make its own.
If you still think Bitcoin holds it safe, think about what happens during an economic depression. Market anxiety gives you some ideas. Mr. Market determines Bitcoin so it can not be considered "safe storage" at all. All it takes is 50% of the value in an instant.

This was the first time that putin has took a stand directly against bitcoin. Its very surprising to see him terming bitcoin as a pyramid scheme.

He says that it would be used for illegal activities and money laundering all over the country.

Last month only, they were very much concerned about the saving bitcoin holders since its price is falling.

Totally contrast to it,this tie they were very much worried about the huge increase in price of bitcoin.

It seems that the central bank of moscow would ban all bitcoin exchanges in the country.

Despite china ban on ICOs,South korea ban on ICOs and now russia's ban on bitcoin, still bitcoin price is surging high towards $5,000 and it clearly shows the potential of bitcoin.

Never mind Russia, with China itself we never had any serious effect on bitcoin and cryptocurrecy for long. Tell me now how do you think the Russia's actions will destroy bitcoin, huh? I think some people are just afraid and started thinking may be Russia's action will change the face of bitcoin which not going to happen. Bitcoin sets certain benchmark that no country in the world will destroy it because that's what true decentralization means e.g. China is the country with highest number of cryptocurrency investors - yet banned and bitcoin fully recovered like nothing happened in only less than 60 days. Russia too got nothing on bitcoin and all the rest of cryptocurrencies as well, trust me! ;D

There is no way that they can ban totally Bitcoin as the title implies 'Breaking: Russia Will Block Bitcoin Exchange Websites, Says Central Bank Official' they will only ban 'Bitcoin Exchanges' and not Bitcoin itself, this is like what China did if ever this will go through and there no major problem that we must worry in the future as Russians are too smart for them to worry with this kind of news.

'First deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia' is the one who stated this so there is no something new about this as an another banker again is about to try to regulate the exchanges and flow of Bitcoin in Russia as if that they can stop the growth of Bitcoin in the future, they are just so alarmed to the potential of cryptocurrencies.

Russia has said before that it would like to regulate the use of cryptocurrencies by Russian citizens and companies.
This move seems to be in line with the idea of government control over Bitcoin. The blocking of citizens from using Bitcoin exchanges puts all the control over citizens and their digital currencies in the hands of the government.

2. They won't be able to enforce any kind of cryptocurrency ban, either usage ban or trading ban would be only dead law.
3. Russia banned bitcoin before, and if I remember correctly this only caused Bitcoin to be more popular in Russia.

Yea that's probably accurate. They probably don't know what it is or how to regulate it so they just ban it. It's only more exposure for bitcoin in Russia and people will be naturally more curious. If they ban it or not the free market is always going to find it's way beyond a ban. I also have doubts on how they will enforce this kind of ban. Shutting down exchanges would be a step but you can't stop on-chain exchanges like Ether Delta for example.

Maybe, bitcoin poses a threat to their system and they would want to prevent that before people starts supporting bitcoin in a larger scale. It's just sad how major companies also have the autonomy and capacity to ban bitcoin platforms and exchanges. Let's just wait how everything turns out since it is in contradiction with the stand of the country's finance minister. Would the country follow Japan's footsteps for bitcoin future? We never know.

Sad to see that so many countries are against bitcoins.

Governments that love to fuck their citizens and steal their money - don't like Bitcoin.  Therefore Russia and China must outlaw it or stop stealing from the people.  Don't worry, Russians are used to getting fucked in the ass and the Chinese are too timid to do anything.

It will have almost no effect on the rest of the world.  Carry on.

Did Russia banned bitcoin? I'm too late in news. The last news I heard is that China banned ICOS. But not bitcoin, but right now, Russia banned bitcoins? For what reason? Do you have any article that supports this?

I think if Russia has banned Bitcoin, Bitcoin prices have risen in the past few days, which is really good because no country can control Bitcoin at this time and the Bitcoin community has done a very good job of pump Bitcoin $ 5800 today

Even Russia banned bitcoin or not, bitcoin can still go up because it is unstoppable and there is still a lot of countries that have a lot of bitcoin users that are continue supporting and using bitcoin as a source of income and also money to buy things in their places. Bitcoin is getting higher and higher and i think that 10,000 USD price is soon to see.

emm, I think they failed to drop the current Bitcoin price, lol ;D
LOL people are already know that such regulations can't stop them to trade and hodl bitcoin, they already learnt from the past when china trying to ban bitcoin but just fail.
see now, every government regulation that against bitcoin released, the price didn't shaking.

I think the government and the banks are not able to control the money of people, which are using virtual coins. So they want to get rid of all these coins to recover the control on the money transactions.
Maybe that's one of the reasons. in my opinion the Governments fear bitcoin is a tool for illegal acts, money laundering and tax evasion in their country

Thats true, I think that our both issues could be a problem for the governemtens, we''ll have to find out what will happen.

maybe that's a wrong news, i heard russia doesn’t ban bitcoin but just forbid the exchange of bitcoin, just like in china many people spread the news that china forbids bitcoin but it’s wrong because china doesn’t forbid bitcoin but only prohibits ICO bitcoin .
maybe you should find a reliable and right news not the fake news

russia won’t prohibit bitcoin, you can be a bitcoin holder in russia but you aren’t allowed to exchange bitcoin in russia, because it’s assumed as an illegal transaction by the russian government, because russian banks don’t want to legalize bitcoin and if the russian government legalize bitcoin it can disrupt russian financial system, for an example: china cannot control the ICOs and finally the chinese government forbid ICO in china, china just forbids ICO not banned bitcoin.

I have not read the news about the ICO ban in russia, their constitution considers bitcoin as money in a monopoly game. Putin also does not value bitcoin positively. It is proven by the legal interrogation they have done on Burger King for using crypto currency in their business. This is inversely related to the emergence of many ICOs from within the country especially in the development of ethereum.

Russia is doing the same thing as China. They bann all the exchangers and ICO's so they can open a new powerful exchanger , so they can make profit from that. Maybe they are thinking to even open their own cryptocurrency. Anyway there is no official news from government saying anything about bitcoin so until that will happen we have to wait.

I do not believe Russia will ban Bitcoin. I know Russia banned bitcoin exchange not ban bitcoin (According to the article).

prohibiting exchanges not banning Bitcoin, these are different matters. I've read that russia legalizes Bitcoin, just like Japanese welcomed the Bitcoin market warmly. the Russian government says that bitcoin transaction can be tracked and that’s why it’s legal.

this news doesn’t say that Russia bans Bitcoin, they only prohibit Exchanges because Bitcoin is assumed has very high risk to be used as a tool of investment. this is to protect their citizens who use Bitcoin because of its volatility.

They did not ban bitcoin, they only prohibit to exchange bitcoin to their fiat money. You can still own bitcoin even if you live in Russia. I believe they will soon accept bitcoin once almost every nation accept bitcoin.

This article doesn't exactly say that they are banning bitcoin. It's just they block exchange in order to protect Russian BTC users because it's one of the  biggest tool for invedtment. I think Russia means no harm, they want to protect and wsrn their people.

I think the Russia is just trying to regulate the bitcoin and they are not banning bitcoin because if they ban bitcoin then you will see the results in the price like what happened in china, when they banned bitcoin then they easily make the price dump and right now you cannot see any dumps in bitcoin so the banning in bitcoin in Russia is not true.

I don't see that as a coming ban on bitcoin. Russia is actually trying to regulate cryptocurrencies as they are planning to launch their own CryptoRuble

Same reason china gave when they banned exchanges. Its not a total ban but probably on its way to regulation. If you think about it, they have a point though banning won't be able to do anything about it

Right it just a regulation, As you cannot ban porn the same implies to Bitcoin and other digital assets. The more you put regulations on it the more precious it will become for people, Did not we Just reached 5.8k USD after china put a lots of regulation.

after malaysia and then now russia, this happen because they are aware of the power of bitcoin the power of untraceable. thats the true power of bitcoin

Bitcoin remains trackable, that article doesn’t say it can’t be tracked, we are discussing about the Russian government planning to ban on Exchanges due to the Bitcoin’s very volatile nature, their reason is to protect their citizens who use Bitcoin. if you talk about other articles it’ll be another matter especially if you haven’t read the news.

As there is currently no such prohibition on bitcoins and operations with it in Russia. However, in Russia, state agencies are proposed to prohibit the cultivation of bitcoin on farms at home and allow only specialists to buy / sell bitcoin.
