Title: Sold my Bitcoin today
Post by: Sikka157 on October 14, 2017, 10:14:59 PM
I sold my bitcoin today. I think the price jumped too much too fast. My opinion is that it will drop below 5,000 soon and in that case I will buy back again because i expect bitcoin to increase significantly in the long term.
What do you think??
Edit: If you are wondering at what price, i sold at $5720. I bought Litecoin with ithat money.

That is a risky play, not many people are selling since they want to obtain free bitcoin gold, so I think you are going to need to wait for some time, because those that get bitcoin gold are going to sell it and get bitcoin with it and that is going to push the price up once again.

I'm supporting your decision. But only if you plan to buy the same amount of coins on lower price. Or even taking 'free' coins instead of 'free' fiat.

Now the price seems to be at it's pick point and I don't believe to reach another all time high soon. Or at least in next 2-3 months.

If the move is to secure your earnings and repurchase whenever it dips back down, it is a good one.

If it is to take advantage of the low alt coin prices...it is a great one.

If to re-purchase BTC again before the fork to get double coin...questionable.

You are wrong. My way of looking at it is that it has already successfully broke the very hard resistance which was $5,000. But since it has gotten away from the chains of $5,000, and gone past that, it will be growing even more. We are now approaching $6,000. It might even be reached within the month. This is a good sign that each bitcoin will become a 5-dollar figure soon.

You are wrong. It will rally untill segwit 2x hard fork.. i predict it will reach arround $7500. However its just my prediction. Yes it is too high now. But people though the se thing when it was $2500 and $3500. No one knows what actally bitcoin is worth in next 3 -4 years. Long term holding is still good. Even not gain like early adopter who adopted it in 2014 or even 2010. They are rich now. But probably many of those early adopter cashed out at $3500 or somewhere..

i think its a nice idea and a win win situation , infact i also sell mine today and i wont regret if what will be the price next day but the downside is if the bitcoingold rumors will happen we wont recieve that much. thats why there are still people who holds their bitcoin until the fork has been done. so i guess lets just wait and see if that would really happen or not.

You are wise Buddy. It is true only.Till the October end ,the price of bitcoin will keep on increasing day to day.Only the clever people will get huge dollar in his pocket. If you want of money in Emergency means, you can transfer the bitcoin to FIAT or else keep as long as possible to get huge profit. You could be right. But it could also rise up to $6000 and then jump back to $5000. In this case you would at least not lose anything if you buy back the coins at the same price you sold them.

I don't see any reason for the market to start retreating right now, I think we are in a very bullish trend and it's only a matter of time before BTC rises again.  Then again most people are holding and the majority are usually wrong...

Playing safe is good but taking a riskier decision is better. You should have hold your coins until the fork and sold everything after the fork. That way, you can have free bitcoin gold coins and you can also expect a pricr dip after that so you can buy again with a cheaper priced bitcoin. Sorry, but I think your decision was nit that good.

Title: Re: Sold my Bitcoin today

you might be doing a good think to sell your bitcoin just to expecting you can buy again in lower price but you need to thinking that how much price you bought in the last time you buy? if its only $5000-$5500 then i don't think that this is a clever or smart way because the price can go to lower price but if you bought at below than $4000 and you sold at $55xx or even you can sell at $58xx then its a wise moves. and you only need to wait and make sure the price is going to down so you can buy at lower price.

That is very risky plan. Bitcoin has stayed long in bear market. If you sell it down right now you may regret and you cannot even buyback. I wouldn't do this for sure.

It is a risk, but also not a risk because if you have already profited then you successfully invested. Many people lose lots of money on the stock markets so to cash out successfully on btc isn't a bad thing

This time i will increase my investments in altcoins, i won't bother with BTC price nor fork, I do not need 10% gained from Bitcoin Gold,  I will try to get 100% or 200% when alts spikes up. You are wasting your time on this correction, and trading BTC/fiat. This game is for whales and only they can get most of it because of big volume of trade. Rest of us should concentrate on alts.

I support, it should fall by the end of the year, it's a fact. Another question is whether and how it will be profitable again to invest in it to enter. But let's see, but in the meantime, rest from the trade.

Well, it's also a good decision by selling bitcoin at the high price. Anyway, bitcoin may decrease anytime or increase because we cannot predict the exact price until at what price it's high. Atleast your decision gives you a good profit, but when bitcoin price downtrend you can buy back.

Good job.
I agree that you did well to sell in that point. it is hard to go over 6k in short time it is probably going to go down at least one time before it goes over 6k USD. You can collect them back around 5k usd in week day.

I think this was a good idea because I was surprised when BTC went up to 5k for just a couple of days. There's a chance that it will go down to 4k IF something will happen and that's the perfect time to buy BTC. Yes, there's a risk on what you did but everything/anything has a risk most specially in this business.

Title: Re: Sold my Bitcoin today

You did the right thing by selling at the right time as you would have noticed that price has started to drop now and ma be in next few days we will see  price again below $5k so that would be the perfect price to buy some bitcoins at cheaper price and if you would have not sold then you would regret for not selling at the higher price so if you want to buy more wait for next few days.

You are right. When i see bitcoin price is decrease 5% today, i think you have choosed the right choice.
Maybe bitcoin price can decrease in $4800-$5000. That is so risky if you still hold bitcoin.
If it will decrease again, you can buy bitcoin and get more profit again. That is a good plan.

Wise choice but if bitcoin refuse to go down your profit will be reversed since you cannot buy back after because you'll end up having less bitcoin than before you sell. But still because of the upcoming forks this really is a good move, even I will sell but only if bitcoin go over $6k or near it.

I also think that Bitcoin will eventually fall down because of the upcoming hardforks. The more nearer we get to the scheduled date of the hardfork, the more possibility of a Bitcoin crash. This is very common and the recent evidence is the hardfork last August 1st. A week before the hardfork, Bitcoin crashed so it is very probable that it will happen again.

Well it will definitely drop down after 25th October and that will be the best time for you to buy Bitcoins again. Then maybe by the end of this month it might cross 6-7k USD .
Also it totally depends on the amount of Bitcoins you buy and sell. Doing that in abandance is a pretty good option now because it's obvious that the prices will fall and rise again some day.

Whoa, it's a rather brave move. I mean it's all very likely, but after the August 1st situation with everyone expecting some crash, the price actually raised significantly, in this case it can be very similiar. People are pumping bitcoin now, because everyone wants to have part of that free fork coins, so you are right in a way, as they will have to dump these excess bitcoins after some time so it may lower the price, but there is a risk that the dumping attempt will only pump the price even more. I wouldn't risk that much, but on the other hand if you succeed there is some quick profit to be made.

In August 1, people didnot think bitcoin cash would be any valuable. So the price of bitcoin didnot change before the fork. But the price of bitcoin cash increased significantly after the fork. Now people are expecting the same price increase and buying Bitcoin. But this time the price of the Bitcoin gold has already been priced in on the price of bitcoin, hence after the fork, i expect bitcoin to fall. Just my opinion, no one can predict the future.
I still believe bitcoin will continue to grow in the long term. I think bitcoin market cap will grow to be 1 trillion dollar in a decade and trade like forex currency trading.

Why do you think so? What makes you think that people who receive Bitcoin Gold won't dump it and buy more Bitcoin? That's what happened during the previous fork, Bitcoin went up not long after it and that's why people are buying now. They want to get BG and hold to the moment when it starts pumping again after the fork.

I agree with your thoughts. There is an upcoming fork and based from the fork last August 1st, Bitcoin's price then significantly decreases. Not a just a decrease but a tremendous decrease. So since there is a fork that will get underway within days, a dump in price is very much probable. Below 5000 is very reasonable and might go lower than that. I am not saying that your thoughts and mine is correct, but hey, it's not bad to expect the worse in this type of situation. And after the fork, there will be a great opportunity for growth.

Well it is good idea and it worth to try. I just hope that you will not wait specifically for its price to go under 5000, maybe the value will stay over 5000 for some time. Or will never goes down anymore. And it would be wise of you if you sold just a part of your stash.

Your decision is safe . Because they have possible the price of bitcoin decrease because many investor will panic selling and if that happen for sure it will crash. So the fork is near we can make a decision now if they hold our bitcoin or sell it. But even they have many people sell their bitcoin they have also buy bitcoin because they believe after fork the price will increase more than the current highest price.

If you made a profit on the coins you sold, there's nothing wrong with that.  On
the other hand, if you expect bitcoin to keep rising...why sell now?  You might
not get a chance to buy in lower.  And meanwhile, we're at $5700 as I write this.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to take that profit and sit on it for a while.  You
might be buying back in at the top of the bubble.  But there's no shame in taking
your money off the table.

Price of BTC now rising because people are interested for the free money. Altcoins dropping because of this event..
BTC is main attraction now. ;)
We will see downtrends again but i doubt we will go down below 3k, bottom could be around 4k. Just do not believe to fud. Avoid involving yourself too deeply in those developers discussion because  whatever they decide BTC is here to stay, and its value will rise over time. Altcoins will stay even this BCH will stay maybe even get more value.

I wont say it is a good move but it is not a bad move either. Considering you really sold all your bitcoins, then you wont get some free money after the fork on November 2017. You should have had sold it just a few hours after fork, you might get returns on selling your bitcoin stash by that time plus you might get free money. Still, it is not a bad move to hedge after all, there is a chance that bitcoin will fall really low after bitcoin fork.

Title: Re: Sold my Bitcoin today

Your decision is safe
It's not. If you sell your coins to cash out profits, that's all cool, but you risk missing out on even more profits since there is no explicit indication of the price to go up or down in the very short term. It would be a safe decision if OP just cashed out like 25% of his profits. It means that you have enough fiat in your pocket to use in case the price goes down, and enough coins in your wallet for when the price goes up further - that's a safe decision. By selling all at once, you depend on just one market movement, which is quite a risky action.

It's because these things are depends on our needs, and we can't really blame those people who always dump there coins when they earn since maybe they are in need and cannot able to wait for more longer months to stake since he is jobless. But those kind of guys will be feel sorry but they will just smile since they are still happy enough to earn eventhough the rise is occuring.

a very good move..since you are aware of price fluctuations.. buy when it dips again and keep more coins for future.. there is a very high chance bitcoin touch 10000$ soon ad there will definitely be many panic sellers that time also..!so u can again sell at that time to buy back low

I personally think it is not a slick move, because the price had been up again to $5700 mark value, he should wait for the right time when the price reach about $5900 or $5800 again or just wait for the Oct 24 or 23 date for further value fluctuations because last minutes of fluctuations are very important indeed before deciding in selling your bitcoin, but it is your choice because that is just my own opinion.

I think this is a wise decision, I would suggest you invest in some alt-coins with the money you now have. For me BTC did rise too sharply and a fall is likely after the fork on the 25th

Great choice , now just wait for the market cool down and then go buy back!
is that possible to get bitcoin gold if you buy again in a higher price? I dont think so . I think the reason why op sell today because of doubt about bitcoin value now adays because of some predictions that bitcoin will fall again if it will surpass in $5000. Is that true? Will in my opinion its better to wait instead of eagerly sell to get more bitcoin gold indeed it will continue to climb until November. .

That is a risky move!

Might work out for you, might not!

Breaking the $5000 price means a lot of bullish pressure as that was a key psychological barrier. I'm not saying it would briefly drop back down under $5000 at some point this Fall, but I certainly wouldn't bet all my bitcoin on it!

Rather than selling, I will simply be buying a lot more bitcoin in the next few weeks. Hopefully bitcoin gold will be worth something and I will sell it for more bitcoin. And when segwit2x happens once it is clear which chain is the minority chain I will sell those coins for even more bitcoin.

There will be lots of volatility this Fall, it could drop below $5000 for a short time and then you've made a great call, but it also might not and instead shoot up to $7000 and you'll end up losing a significant amount of bitcoin you had.

It's hard to be 100% certain and mostly it depends on your expectations for bitcoin gold, personally I do not think that bitcoin gold will be overly successful so I'm much more willing to accept that selling right now is a good time to sell.

I think we'll find that bitcoingold was a complete scam, and no exchange lists it, which means lots of disappointed people in a few weeks time. At which point those who were simply holding to get their airdrop will sell.

I think that the OP rushed to sell bitcoins today. The price will be higher. Bitcoin gold really may not have real value but the wait to get free coins is to force users to keep up to 25 Oct my bitcoins and so the price will rise. Then it will be period to the bifurcation during which the price may show a jump and then may start falling.

Better off waiting until you get your gold than sell

I feel this sound to me like a pretty more good plan instead. The chances of profiting from the gold is still there and once that happens, you can just pretty much watch the market movement and make a decision from there, at least with that, you are not loosing anything even if the value comes down a little. With the way it is now, it seems more of a risky one, you miss from the free airdrop, probably the price skyrockets after the fork too. Leaving you with losses.

Whoever has invested into bitcoin has benefited, I haven't found any users gone bankrupt just because of investing into bitcoin. Some might have lost big through gambling and the same will be made a big news that bitcoin lead to the entire loss, where the reality gets hidden. So unlike the price selling is good on emergency than on unwanted spending.

How many bitcoin of yours did you sold? I felt not sorry and bad for you because you're happy with the price that you sold your bitcoins. And still there will be a lot of massive pump and dump that's about to come and if you do think that there will be a major drop lower than $5,000. I don't think so, these two forks will make the price of bitcoin higher so you have sold your btc's earlier but still there's a chance to have some more pumps.

The bidding rate is still high and the bullish momentum is still significant. I think selling now with an idea to buying back at cheap prices is not a good trading decisions. If you are trading based on technical analysis you will understand that there is a channel that has be created and a break of the upwards line will push the price as high as  $6,500. Fundamentally there is no reason why the price should drop now, I think price is going to correct around  $5,500 and from there another upwards movement.

Still early to say that bitcoin gold is a complete scam we'll eventually know about this after the hard fork. But as long as there will be a value on it and even 1,000 sats still there will be people who are going to be active trading this coin. I don't want to be disappointed but I'm trying to be ready on what's possible to happen when the fork occurs so if it has good value, that's great but if don't still great.

There's nothing wrong in profit taking and I should say that you did what you have to do. Someone will say that your decision here is wrong as BTC's price will still rise up to $6k area but keep in mind that you have your own plan and you did the correct thing here. Good job in taking enough courage to take profit. Lookout for the dip, as it will happen, and buy back again. You'll have more profit in the long run by doing that.  ::)

You are right, the price could drop below 5000$ and this might happen soon after the fork. But the truth is also that this dump will not last for long and soon after that the price will start to rise again and could jump way above 5000$ or 6000$.

Always stick to your trading rules.Weekends are not good days  for uptrend continuity. It was smart decision to sell before weekend and waiting for low price level to reenter your old position. In long term trading there are not such fear like expecting ban by any government.

You'd be surprise the rate at which events would turn out to be. Things are getting more intense, support is growing hugely and for us to have such huge downward trend may start becoming impossible.
The prices reducing before or after the fork is just speculation and the best way is just to HODL and watch the situation of things. So many people made this same mistake during the last fork and ended up regretting it.

Too soon for that in my opinion also. Bitcoin is just getting started and holding on it for a few more weeks would have bring extra 1k or 2k dollars. What can we say, it is human nature. People get excited when they see unexpected pleasing results and it is not shocking for me to see bitcoin holders selling out their coin this soon. I hope they could have earned more from their asset.

That was a big gamble.

If you would review the graph the price keeps on going up and when there a dive back in September this was when the JP Morgan and China issues happened but after that the price soared high and will definitely go higher in the next days. Most people are hoarding the coin for the upcoming fork and another fork might happen by November so expect them to hold it until then.

I would suggest if the price difference from today and the price when you sold it is not that high better buy a coin again and expect a price of $6000-$7000 by December.

Each and every move of bitcoin value forward is simply unpredictable. If it's with some other trading or forex, can predict to some extent or can believe that the history repeats. But with bitcoin scenario is different, we can just speculate and hope for the best to take place.

Yes selling at this juncture just because price is high is not making sense considering the hard fork is coming in few days from now. And thus we should see some good gains and might cross 6k near fork event just like last time we had one way upside movement.

And then what? Cash out a lousy profit? I don't see any reason why the price will go up more just because of the planned fork this month. If the market is due for an even higher increase, it will do so regardless of an insignificant fork such as Bitcoin Gold. If you bring up the goose with the golden egg, then it doesn't make sense to sell any of your coins in the coming years. In other words, why sell at $5500 this month, when you can sell your coins at $20,000 after 2 or 3 years?

It seems to me that this is a bold enough forecast as to how much Bitcoin can cost after 2 or 3 years. But nevertheless, I would not take this information seriously, because there is always a lot of predictions, but not all are coming true. Although to date we see very good and positive growth Bitcoin. Perhaps the end of the year we will have 7.000 for Bitcoin.

I also think that Bitcoin will  fall down because of the upcoming hardforks. The more nearer we get to the scheduled date of the hardfork, the more possibility of a Bitcoin crash. This is very common and the recent evidence is the hardfork last August 1st. A week before the hardfork, Bitcoin crashed so it is very probable that it will happen again.

I sold my bitcoin today. I think the price jumped too much too fast. My opinion is that it will drop below 5,000 soon and in that case I will buy back again because i expect bitcoin to increase significantly in the long term.
What do you think??
That is quite a bit risky move though, but every thing about trading is risky isn't it ?

It is a huge jump for real and it is obvious we got a huge pump as a result of the upcoming fork but there is this feeling like it is going up a little bit more before the fork and the point you have sold, though may come back a little down to correct itself, but it still feels risky.

We never know if the price of the bitcoin price of today will go down or up. One thing is sure you did a great move to have profit. Any way you can wait untill the bitcoin price fall then do another wise move man .
One of the best decision in trading, sell when you think you already earn profit. And buy back when the price drops, because in my own opinion there will be little dump of price after the hard fork. Yes, we doesnt know yet when is the price will be its in high peak.
Precisely, it still depend on our decision. If you think that you were already gain a high profit then sell your bitcoins. And when the time that bitcoin drop then buy back, by that way you will surely get a a high profit. We cannot predict the bitcoin so it is better to have a countermeasure to prevent loss.

i think most of us are shitty traders and should just hodl

for those of us that aren't good traders, best to hodl and only trade on very obvious trends that nobody could mistake for anything other than they are

but that's near impossible with bitcoin

it just keeps going up eventually

hodling is easier and safer for beginning traders

sure, it's ok to play with a small amount, but not a lot - play to learn

I am not yet holding Bitcoins as I am planning to join signature campaigns soon when I get the chance to be accepted in one. But in my opinion, it is better to hold on to Bitcoins now unless there will be a big factor that will really bring down the Bitcoin price.

Well OP is such a risk taker as he sold his bitcoin while many of us are holding bitcoin tight for the upcoming hard fork and also to have a free bitcoin gold.
Many are speculating that after the hard fork bitcoin will experience some correction so maybe OP will take that chance but don't expect too much that you can buy really low.

its a matter of chances just like taking a risk holding btc in chance to have some free btc gold and while most of spectators are hoping that it will bring some good value after the fork and correction might happen if whales will cash out their earnings but if they don't it will be a huge pumped after.

sometimes we become greedy when the price is increase and we want more profit but in next second, we don't know what will happen and if the price is down, then we are feel regret. we need to decide how much profit we want so we don't missed the right time to selling and we can take the profit. so its better to us make some nice profit then we only regret our wrong decision and we should wait another time to see the price is back increase.

That's good quote don't be too greedy, set a profit percentage of how much you want to earn. But when you hold your bitcoin in long terms like 10 years this will give you very good profit. When the demand for bitcoin increase the price also increase we knows that availablity of bitcoin is limited amount so the demand will increase in coming years so its better to hold it now than selling it.

I'd stay in until the fork and then immediately draw out. Doubt a lot of people will be selling BTC before the gold fork.
Selling BTC before gold fork or buying BTC before the gold fork.
I wish the reverse is the case contrary to what you said. Most people are looking forward to having the gold drop and they aren't giving it a chance to miss on it. However, for the 2x, support is already dropping for it gradually and I won't be surprised if it ends up just like another BCC fork.

good luck with your decision. it is hard to predict the market especially now everyone is bullish on the btc. maybe its time to look at potential Alts.

I don’t think looking at alts is the right strategy now. If you are unsure about a bitcoin crash coming up,you should shift to either cash or gold. Putting your money in alts only exposes you to more risk.

I suggest to hold bitcoin until the end of the year, I'm sure we'll get the price $ 10,000 after the presence of bitcoin gold. and I'm expecting the 2018 bitcoin price to reach $ 20,000, so I recommend not selling bitcoin but we have to buy it.

Even its not fork this these days we are still seeing drops of the price of bitcoin because we know already that there are people are selling their bitcoin to save profit.. those who are late in buying bitcoin are those who lose .
I think for now the price will be stable but after the fork i think this is not only small dump expect that we will experience of big  dump after they get their BTG this is  i think mostly here just getting the benefits of them..
I see but you know what even if bitcoin has unconstant changes of the price people will still make ways to have profit. There are many options to do with that and that only shows how smart people are to know different techniques to be profitable enough. To those who sold their bitcoin,I guess he will be so happy because he was sure to have a good profit after selling his bitcoin. Maybe he is satisfied with the outcome he got. In addition, through bitcoin people are becoming generous and more friendly. This is a big sign of cooperation to be united as one in the world and I think bitcoin is doing that to all people,to us. Whether selling bitcoin or not we are still profitable with people that bind us one world.

Take some profit before drops. The drops is normal and quite possibly not that threatening. I expect the pricing to be corrected at $5000-5500 and it will continue to increase up till next year. I'll buy some this coming December and hodl it for a year.

I see no harm in what you did, just be careful not to miss rise in price when you plan to buy again. Price of Bitcoin can rise fast, be prepared and follow price as much as you can. Maybe it was smart to sell, but I believe that price will rise after SegWit2x. There fill be fall before that, it happened before. But after it price will go up again. Maybe it would be even better to wait for that price drop to buy. What ever you decide you can not make a big mistake, Bitcoin price has always been going up :D .

I agree, I also did the same. The rise is pretty good right now, and I think prices will get a correction before Segwit2x and it will rise really high after it. That's been the norm lately and we can all check it through the charts. Every time there is an issue with bitcoins it goes down and when the issue is resolved bitcoins just goes up. Pretty normal occurrence with bitcoins.

That is a good decision i think but still i will like to say that most of the people do not have the decision power to take in right time. I think it is too much important that you have the decsion power and whenever you realize to take the step you should try to do that in first chance and not to waste the time, because some time when it become late to take decision it really bring a big lost to us.

Good move by you which is normal thing to do specially if you are an active day trader which the peak of 5.8k usd would be the sweet spot to sell out those bitcoins we do have and we did actually see the price did dip again on 5.1 and now it starts to climb up on 5.5k usd as of writing which means it would really be an easy money if you did able to rise on those waves.

It didn't dropped below $5,000 the lowest price that I saw is $5,300 or I just a smaller price. And today the price was up again at $5,500 so you missed the chance of buying back at lower price. I don't think that there will be another dip for bitcoin this month, this I guess is the final dip for bitcoin this month as we are near to the hard fork so you did sold at the earlier moment but it's still good that you have profit.

Current price of Bitcoin still 2 two scenario. First, it is just a bullish recover price trap and want to make the traders think it has bounce again. Of course, if it is really a trap, you will loss your money if buying now. Second, it is really bounce and will move to $6,000 and breakout to new AHT price.

I would suggest that you pay attention to support and resistance areas to give you some idea of where price might be headed.  It's also good to keep in mind what happened at different key price points that resulted in large subsequent moves.  For example, bitcoin was around $4500 when all the China problems hit the fan a few weeks ago.  When we broke back above that, it showed that the market had gotten past all of that and was likely interested in new highs again.  And so, it wasn't too surprising that it made a beeline for $5k, tested it, pulled back a little, and then blasted through.  Important levels to watch now include the new ATH around $5900, the first pullback level around $5400, and the latest pullback level around $5100.  The sharp bounce off of $5100 (which I hope was effectively a test of the $5k level) to me indicates that there's a lot of confidence in bitcoin right now.  If we can get back up in the $5800s, it might make another run for new ATHs shortly thereafter.  Or it might stall close to $5900 and reverse, creating a double top that could mean a retest of $5k.

Note that, of course, it's a lot easier to see these things and explain these moves in hindsight.  But, breaking or bouncing off of a significant level often leads to a significant move in one direction or the other.

I see so that's the dip for this time, last time it was $3,000 and yesterday it was $5,150 that's right? I did sold some for my cash @ $5,500 and now it was up by $5,600+ so it was a quick $100 increase. As the time goes by the price of bitcoin keeps on pumping so for those young ones out there that are keep on waiting for more dip I guess it's quite too late unless there is something going to happen unexpected again.

Recently i sell some of my bitcoins too and notice that the value decrease a bit. I thought it will continue but its not.
Currently the value is above $5k and i dont think it will go down anytime as you expected it to be.

Bitcoin price never goes drop actually if it does it's mean that bitcoin cares for there investor that they get bitcoins in a cheap price that's why that things happen. Everybody know that bitcoin price is rising and it will cross 15000USD in the end of year so what you can expect more from bitcoin if you are holding your coins from now you will achieve a huge target.

Edit: If you are wondering at what price, i sold at $5720. I bought Litecoin with ithat money.

Its a decent price to exit a small amount maybe but why would you put it in litecoin when litecoin has had a much large run in percentage terms - from just over $1 to where it is now, its like a 40x move.  If the market did ever go back down you might see litecoin at $5 to $10 my friend.

Ya it is correct that investing fully in once altcoin is full risky as their are other altcoins which are very cheap and their projects are good. If you can hold them for more then six months or above then you can see a very good profit in them.

I have invested in few altcoins like NEO, Waves, Shift, Qtum, DeepOnion, ZenCash, Florincoin. But i am not comfortable investing big amounts in other altcoins, that is the reason i bought Litecoin. I think $100 for Litecoin is not an ambitious target, i would be happy with that.

Litecoin is already up 20 fold this year. So $100 is quite ambitious, at least in the next months.
You should look into coins that belong to actual projects by the way. Your whole portfolio consists of coins/smart contract platforms, so you have practically no diversification.

Edit: If you are wondering at what price, i sold at $5720. I bought Litecoin with ithat money.

Actually I'm wondering how much you had. So...how much did you have? How much did you sell? Be honest.

To be fair, you didn't really cash out, you traded. Of course you bought Litecoin at the recent high but I'm sure it'll surge again.

good choice I sell my coins too at that price. before it goes under $5400 and now it came back around $5700 so we're getting a good result. I'm waiting till the fork affect the price of bitcoin and then gonna buy again at low price and wait till bitcoin reach $7000 then sell it again basic trading. :D

Yes that was the good price to sell your bitcoins as you made good profits from it and somehow I missed the chance of selling at that price but as of now the price is again above $5700 so thinking of selling some coins at this price before its too late as price may fall after the fork so that would be a good time to buy some more coins at lower price.

I would've parked my Bitcoins somewhere else as well. Quite a few alts around that are very cheap right now with breakout potential.

Ya it is correct that investing fully in once altcoin is full risky as their are other altcoins which are very cheap and their projects are good. If you can hold them for more then six months or above then you can see a very good profit in them.
If you actually spend any time carefully researching altcoins instead of buying hypes and fake news it would be quite hard not to x5-10 your investment in 6 months.
Your whole portfolio consists of coins/smart contract platforms, so you have practically no diversification.

i am sure that litecoin can reach $100 in this year or at least in next year and we know that litecoin price itself is increase than last year so everything has possible. but for selling bitcoin, i don't think that this is a good idea because if we want to make bigger profit, we need to waiting for a while and if there are any down for the price, we can buy bitcoin again. and i if see the list of coins he have, i think neo, waves, qtum, and zencash can be the next coins that will be increase.

You can miss the chance to sell your Bitcoin at $6,000 or higher than, but I all agree with the decision sell your Bitcoin at $5,700. It is enough for you and you do not need to try more risk with $300.

Bitcoin dropped a few hours ago and I panicked enough to see that I sold a few percent of the bitcoin I had, but now the bitcoin price is rising again and my opinion is better to hold bitcoin until the price hits at $6000 and that's a good time to sell before a hard fork.
Similar you dude I experienced whether what I have in my mind sell because of panic, better OP keep hold if you do not want to regret when the price increases.I want to buy BTC this week to get a new free gold maybe.

It's a not bad decision, because it looks that the current price movements stay at altitude I guess and higher than ever that was almost down to $5000. And it looks like the price movement in my opinion will last longer above $5500 till reach $6000.

You could play in a casino. That's quite risky, and almost certainly won't make you rich. Risk taking alone doesn't have any implications on one's success and most risk-takers fail because they can't control it.

Its ok that you have sold it at $5,000.But you could have waited a little until november when bitcoin price is expected to decline due to activation of segwit 2x.A lot of FUD would be spread during that time by big whales to make bitcoin price fall. Also, newbies would be doing panic selling. It would be the right occasion to buy more bitcoins at very cheap price. The act you have done is termed as shorting, but it should have been done much nearer to segwit 2x activation.

That's the problem with shorting. It's very hard to tell when to exit and when to get back in. Which is why rookie traders shouldn't even bother and just hold.

No matter how huge is that altcoin, buying an alt during the BTC rally is too risky. Alts are very sensitive to BTC dumps and pumps. If I were you. I will sell LTC and rebuy it from the dip instead. Look what happened to major alts like ETH, STR, XMR, BCC, DASH, LTC they are now falling down so fast.

The price should go below 6k easily since it was the first time it went over that recently. But given the kind of rise we are seeing, may want to hold off till $20,000 or even $1,00,000 before selling. Bitcoin is just starting to gain popularity in the investment world. Lots more price increase to follow given the limited supply.

There are alts that will climb faster than Bitcoin. It just isn't easy to identify them. But blindly holding Bitcoin until a given target isn't really worth it unless it's only a part of your portfolio (which should be the case).

There will always be a corrrection following such surges of price growth.

Even though price did went up another $200-300 per coin or so, i don't think the decision that you made was wrong, personally. You got a good price for your coins and altcoins are currently somewhat undervalued, and may bounce back soon.

Just need some luck mate.

yes that is good that we should sell if we are getting good profit, but i think that it is expected that everyone will get bitcoingold after hardfork and that is the reason that most of the people are trying to hold their bitcoin. i think you should also wait for some time and hold your bitcoin. That is still a good decision if you are already satisfied with it and since you don"t want to risk and to assyre that you'll sell it with a high value. But at this moment, its balue is continuously increasing that already reached 6000$ and still continues. You may still invest and go along with the pumps to earn profit. If you didn't sell it early, your profit will be bigger but it's not too late too again, invest.

What are the reasons on why you thought that bitcoin's price would decrease? Sure, there are many external factors to consider when speculating its price every month but it has to be backed-up by reasons behind your decision to sell them. Regardless, as long as you made profit out of your investment whether for short or long-term, it does not matter. Unfortunately, if you kept your bitcoins today you could have sold them for around $6000 each, adding that extra $300 to your profit but who knows that its price would reach that mark.

If you wait more days for sure you will earn more some profit because the price of bitcoin today is already 6000 dollars. But for me even the price reach that I will not sell all my bitcoin because its better to wait more because my next target is 7k dollars this month 8k dollars this year and 10k dollars next year. And for sure if that happen I will earn a lot of profit. Litecoin is good to buy as of now and for sure you will earn profit if you hold that for few months.

That is a risky play, not many people are selling since they want to obtain free bitcoin gold, so I think you are going to need to wait for some time, because those that get bitcoin gold are going to sell it and get bitcoin with it and that is going to push the price up once again.

I agree. It might have been a premature taking of profits. The exhale into altcoins may not be until the 2x fork (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2268216.msg23413576#msg23413576) as was the case in August.

It is very difficult to trade a phase transition vertical market.

Afaics, the only reason to trade into LTC/BCH in 2017 is an expectation of the failure of 2x because LTC is already 2MB (also with SegWit for SegWit believers who want to hedge) and BCH is 8MB without that insecure SegWit crap (other reasons may or may not become valid in 2018). So I doubt whether BTC has topped out yet before the fork.

However, it appears that $50ish may be resistance for LTC, so it is probably not a catastrophic error at this juncture. Probably $7000 - $10,000 upside on BTC before 2x.

Also I see the snapshot fot BTG may be Oct. 25, so perhaps he was not premature, but I think perhaps the bullishness continues until the 2x (non-)event.

We have four actual groups:

  • smart strategic big money (long-term portfolios)
  • professional short-term traders
  • the day trader who thinks he is limiting his risks
  • program traders who try to arbitrage ticks
  • the average retail investor
  • the fool who rushes in at the last minute

In most real good vertical markets, it is the professional short-term traders who keep trying to sell the new highs. This has been the group that has been bearish ever since 2009. They never saw new highs coming, and they still will try to sell every new high today. They falsely believe that they are “professional” and so they will be right and the average investor is the fool. But the average investor sees the trend for what it is, goes with the trend, while the short-term “professional” keeps trying to beat the market.

Thoughts?

Bitcoin Gold is a big gamble with little value but high risk.

Afaics, a FOMO pump at best and not long-term significant.

It adds nothing of long-term significance. Proof-of-work can never be truly ASIC resistant. Any proof-of-work algorithm that becomes economic to justify the capex to develop an ASIC will be put on an ASIC. I studied this issue. EquiHash is no exception.

However, it does offer a FOMO pump perceived resistance against any near-term SHA256 mining driven fork wars. So as BCH, SW, SW2x, and SW-theft (aka BTC-Satoshi) battle it out, then we have LTC and BTG as resistant to SHA256 and BTG as the one resistant to Bitmain perhaps (but doesn’t DCC own a huge GPU farm?). Aren’t we getting weary of this forkathon crap.

Also they premined some tokens for themselves, thus it is not a pure airdrop. It is thus  illegal securities issuance when they sell these tokens unless they can argue their ongoing efforts are no longer relevant to anyone’s profit expectation. And if there are no ongoing efforts, then what does that coin offer of any significance?

Essentially if Bitcoin Gold succeeds, then even Bitcoin has become infected with ICO forkathon fever. And thus Bitcoin becomes nothing but a forkathon altcoin itself. Nonsense.

At some point the market is going to weed out all the useless FOMO/copy+pastecoin shit, just like the Dot.com crash did. And then we’ll focus on where the value really is, i.e. the immutability of Bitcoin being what can make it a reserve currency of everything and even Central Banks will hold it (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2268216.msg23461336#msg23461336).

As Warren Buffet said, “when the tide goes out, then we can see who wasn’t wearing underwear.”

Well, that is still your decision and it is still your money at the end. But you should wait a little longer. Also, I can't blame you since you ajist want to secure the profit at that moment wherein its value is already high but its market value right now is higher and you've missed the opportunity to earn bigger profit.
I bought Litecoin with ithat money.
you are right and wrong both.If you say long term then bit coin eventually will be at 7000usd in dec.
So holding is a good idea.
And you are right because yes as soon as almost all the BTG claimed the price will be shoot down to 5000usd and you can buy again.
So yes you made a perfect decision today.
but in my case i have bought it at 5800usd mark.so sadly i have to wait.
Have a great trading mate...:)

Of course Bitcoin will go up to $7000, but altcoins will increase far more than ~15% in the same time. So if you're a young and/or aggressive investor you're probably better off with altcoins.

Only conservative investors and people with very large crypto portfolios should really bother with holding Bitcoins in my opinion.

If he sold his Bitcoins for altcoins it would've been far from a mistake, since he would've gained a lot more than Bitcoin did by now.

Well, that is your strategy. If it were me, I would not sell my Bitcoins all at once. It is because I identify myself as a moderate risk taker, and so I make sure I scatter my investments on the pretext that I will earn passively from various channels.

In regard your prediction, I think that is possible so you better have money to buy Bitcoins when that time comes. Otherwise, you will lose an opportunity that may be hard to grab again.

Yeah I wouldn't waste my time with FOMO coins that don't have anything of significance to bring to the blockchain table. Complete and utter waste of time. I wish it was possible to collect data on how many people burn themselves by following pointless trends in crypto.
We don’t have data about it especially if we consider the fact that many persons are going to hide their losses from their family and friends, but even if we do not have that we can easily guess most people which follow trends in crypto are going to lose money since they are not investing in the fundamentals of the coin but in the hype.

For myself I think this is not the right time to sell bitcoin, because bitcoin value now was steady and a little bit movement only in the market.
Maybe we need to wait for the meantime before to sell it, because I know that some of this day bitcoin value were rapidly increase who knows maybe sooner or later it was fall again into $6000.

I think it's best to sell because bitcoin value is now the highest if rupiakan reach Rp.80.000.000 where this becomes the highest bitcoin value. but I do not know yet whether the bitcoin price will continue to rise again or even go down. but because bitcoin prices are now again above the top you should sell because it is in the sure you will get a profit.

Well he based his assumption that bitcoin price will go down that's why he decided to sold off his stash. We can't blame him for doing that, however, most of us believed that hodling is really the option for us. No need to worry about bitcoin crashing because of FUD. We are matured already and so does the market. If you still believed in FUD then its gonna be your lost and their gain. We know what are their intentions of spreading if, so it you listen to them, they won already. So look at the price now, it is trading at $5700 although the price did dip, it is still considered a good price if you gonna ask me.

According to me he need to not sell his Bitcoin because the bitcoin price are increasing now and he or a person hold their Bitcoin for more two or three months I hope he gain a very high profit from its. Moreover, you says that you didn't know about the Bitcoin price that it goes to increase or decrease, but to me there is no doubt about the Bitcoin price it goes to more increasing, I think at the end of the year or the begging of 2018 Bitcoin cross to 10,000$.

If he moved into altcoins he might've gotten far greater profits than by sticking it out with Bitcoin though. Bitcoin Gold is just completely worthless, so gambling on it is pointless. Real altcoins have better chances of making profits than taking the Bitcoin rise + Bitcoin Gold.

Selling bitcoin we are holding now isn't wrong decision, let alone with the aim to gain more profit by buying it on altcoin. Of course it's a smart way to make our investment grow even faster. I just sell a bit of bitcoin and buy some Strat & Waves.

I sold 1/4th of my bitcoins today as price was too good to me and I thought that in coming days price may drop so sold some coins and gain best profits on my investments and now hoping for the price to go lower in coming days so that I could buy some bitcoins at lower price as price will surely go below $6k in coming days.

Did you really just say that holding bitcoin isn't worth it??!

If someone buys bitcoin, doesn't get into alts at all, and just holds bitcoin they will make a TON of money! Sure investing in altcoins could potentially increase profits even a lot more, but it is also highly risky. Altcoins can be very profitable but there are so many, and even plenty of ones that have really good concepts and devs don't skyrocket, even with proper research it is still involves a lot of luck. If you're successful then that's fantastic and it is much better than just holding bitcoin, but it is easy to not be successful, or to hold something as it pumps and keep holding thinking this is only the start and then it dumps - that happens all the time with altcoins. Not saying one is better than the other, but if someone just wants to safely make huge profits then "blindly" holding bitcoin long term is the best bet in the world right now. So how is that "not worth it"?

Look at the value of Bitcoins now! I guess you sold yours too soon considering that Bitcoins even reached $7,500 this November. I think it will even reach as much as $15,000 before the year ends. I remain hopeful that this peak will not forego too soon. There is hope! Nonetheless, good for you if you bought other cryptocurrencies. Just keep on investing, and soon your time will flourish.

I think there is no way it'll hit $15k by end of the year! It's not gonna double in the next 8 weeks! Especially with the fork coming which could cause the price to drop at least for a bit.

But yeah selling bitcoin any time soon, or earlier like OP did at 5700, is just a bad idea. There's only three reasons to sell bitcoin (other than to buy altcoins) before it gets up to at least like $50k.
1. You need the money right now.
2. You are actively trading bitcoin against USD and are attempting to sell during a dip and buy in lower - i guess this is what the OP wanted to do but obviously failed as this is very risky during a bull run!
3. You bought in a long time ago and are already starting to take profits or diversify your portfolio because you've already gotten rich.

Other than those, I can't imagine why anyone would sell at such low prices as these.

Yes, I did say that blindly holding just Bitcoin is not worth it. It's always a bad move to move into an asset class without diversifying that part of your portfolio, unless you literally don't care about potential losses or missing out on profits elsewhere.

Blindly holding Bitcoin and a couple of other things certainly isn't for everyone but it has served me extremely well so far.

The thing that separates this from almost every other 'investment' is the absolute unknowability of its eventual fate. The people who end up penniless and insane via crypto are the ones who spout the most confident predictions and opinions which almost always are total clueless shit.

I was already diversified before I got in and there's certainly not been any worthwhile profit elsewhere that I've missed. That's partially down to markets but also my own indifference to investigating other things.

Well it has so far been worth it for every single person who has ever done it, just sayin'.

And diversifying in crypto is a bit different than diversifying in say the stock market. Because bitcoin is THE coin. There's no one stock that everyone is trying to get, the way Bitcoin is for cryptos. Not saying diversifying is bad or anything, but when it comes to crypto diversifying into altcoins raises the risk of the investment rather than lowers it. With that increased risk sure you could make even a lot more money than just holding bitcoin, but because of the increased risk you could also lose some of your bitcoin.

Holding bitcoin has so far for everyone always been worth it. Investing in altcoins carries much higher risk and works out for some but doesn't work out for others.

In crypto its bitcoin for safe massive profits, altcoins for risky possibly even higher profits but also possible loses. 99% of the altcoins out there are not gonna go anywhere long term (I'd certainly call that risky which is the opposite of what diversification is supposed to give you), and at this point in time the only coin we know is likely headed for major adoption is bitcoin (the safe bet in crypto).

I'm sure it has served just about anyone who ever held Bitcoins and didn't sell them (or lose access to their wallet) so far. But that's still very dangerous and could turn ugly really quickly. Which is fine, it's the high risk involved that allows Bitcoin to be highly profitable, but we shouldn't start fooling ourselves into thinking it is or ever has been in any way a safe investment.

And yeah, it's quite easy to spot the future losers from miles away. They might get lucky for a while, but will almost inevitably end up shooting themselves in the foot somewhere down the road.

Yes, I did say that blindly holding just Bitcoin is not worth it. It's always a bad move to move into an asset class without diversifying that part of your portfolio, unless you literally don't care about potential losses or missing out on profits elsewhere.

Just because it worked out in the past doesn't mean it will keep working out in the future. And it definitely wasn't obvious in the past either. Don't get me wrong, I'm heavily pro crypto, but it's still one of the riskiest assets that currently exist.

And altcoins carrying higher risks (which is only partially true) is rewarded with greater upside potential. It balances out.

And just because everyone knows about only Bitcoin today, doesn't mean this can't change very quickly in the future.

In the near future we will be seeing more and more serious and successful companies that started up through the blockchain, regardless of whether or not they directly implement any of its technology in their business. And people will start gravitating towards them in greater numbers as they start proving successful. This will inevitably get to a point where Bitcoin is left largely untouched by success stories in the altcoin scene, unless Bitcoin is directly required to invest in said companies.
So far it doesn't seem like Bitcoin will lose its position as the "crypto gatekeeper", which means that it will keep benefiting from altcoin investors. But that could change quite rapidly in this market, which makes it important to hedge against that very real risk, even it's not extremely large.

I'm not saying the past will dictate the future. But it is clear that bitcoin has always been the safe bet in crypto, while altcoins are an absolute crapshoot. The altcoin market is MUCH riskier than bitcoin. I ain't saying its bad to invest in altcoins, because with that much higher risk comes possible much higher rewards. I'm just pointing out that holding bitcoin is well worth it if someone wants to make a lot of money without carrying the risk of several of their altcoins plummeting downward because that is just the altcoin market. With altcoins it's mostly just a guessing game. Until there are actual successful companies built off a coin or build around a coin, choosing altcoins is a lot of luck and a little research.

Anyway, no need to continue this debate forever haha. Yeah more gains could be gotten with altcoins, but altcoins are absolutely riskier than bitcoin. And while you get the security of one investment not being able to tank your portfolio, lets be real, when bitcoin goes down the whole market goes down, meaning that bitcoin is the safe bet among cryptos, and has insane growth compared to ordinary investments. So in no world would holding bitcoin not be worth it when in general it doubles your money every few months.

Well, holding is a strategy that is known to work not only in bitcoin but in the stock market as well, someone holding Google stocks from the beginning has made a lot of profits, obviously if someone bought stocks of a useless company holding will be counterproductive.

It is not a bad decision since you ar3 already satisfied with its value that time. it is just that you missed the opportunity to earn more profit since its market value as of this moment is already 400$ and is expect3d.to be more exp3nsive after the hardfork this month since its value is continuously increasing.

I think you are going to need to hold your LTC for a very long time, bitcoin has now grow a lot and with the upcoming fork I think things are not going to change which means you are going to need to wait for the day the altcoin market wakes up.

I sold my bitcoin today. I think the price jumped too much too fast. My opinion is that it will drop below 5,000 soon and in that case I will buy back again because i expect bitcoin to increase significantly in the long term.
What do you think??

It is hard to stay realistic.
Drop to 5000 is a lower limit.
But summer is over it will rise rather than drop.

I guess if they do invest in short term then it's better to sell it today or in the next few months to go. Doubling your money isn't that fast and my recommendations will be invest with a vision for long term, because you cannot have to double it if you're a quick seller; maybe you can have the profit quickly but not as profitable if you choose long time investments. As of today's growing value it's not a good idea to sell it quickly at earlier time.

I think selling bitcoin is not advisable in the current situation because the bitcoin value is growing almost everyday. So, why do you want to sell your bitcoins? The problem with selling your bitcoins now - if you sell it now you won't be able to buy the same equivalent when you want to buy. It's better to hold on your bitcoins.

And now, have you taken a look at the recent price of Bitcoin? My friend, it has happened several times before to a great deal of people. When Bitcoin finally hit $100, a big part of the people are saying it is reaching too high and it is selling time because it might burst soon. And a few more months later, they began to suffer with regrets because Bitcoin continued to shoot past $500. We have big goodbye to $5720 because we are here at $7,000 plus.

It’s going to be hard to say. I mean, at anytime really the price could fall. But by judging the current situation of bitcoin and its trend, I don’t think it would go that way. A lot of other users are positive as well that bitcoin would just continue to rise. There would eventually be some price corrections because the increase has been going to fast and it is really high so perhaps that would be a good chance for you to buy back. There has been positive news for bitcoin nowadays so I believe that the price will just continue to rise.

Looks like the price of bitcoin is getting decrease and lots of people are starting to dump their bitcoin because the segwit2x will nearly to done..
Since the price of bitcoin is high they are selling bitcoin today and get the benefits of the price today.. because there is possibility that there is panic selling after the fork..
So if you holding bitcoin right now better to sell or wait for the fork to done and sell it and get your fork coins to sell to market..

Unfortunately bitcoin keep increasing instead of get corrected after Op decide to sell, he must be regret it. Bitcoin surprisingly gain more value after reach $6000 and be able to reach over $7600. However, current price seems stable above $7k levels, fluctuate and decline to $7100 right now. I don't think this happen because 2x hard fork, it's simply people cash out after bitcoin reach the highest peak. But, bitcoin may rise over $7500 again in this week due to people want to get more b2x if community decide not to implement segwit2x which created new altcoin.

Not a bad plan, but be cautious when the price drops further and get the timing right.

The possibility that many will sell there bitcoin to take advantage of the price and also due to upcoming segwit2X in the event like this will also likely to create new opportunities because if the price of bitcoin
Will decrease it will give chance for the others who wanted to buy Bitcoin in lower price, because in my speculation this only the time that might Bitcoin would decrease the price and if all this things be done the BTC price will spike again,

It seems to me that you do not need to pay attention to this and wait for another plug and only then you can double some of your investments. The fact is that the price for Bitcoin will still go up, and the next coin is a double, will also give some revenue.

The point is simply that nobody knows how long it will keep climbing before it corrects. Trying to catch the ups and downs is a very risky game though.

of course for investors This is a very difficult moment and I think that there are difficult moments when they buy at a higher price and the price falls very low. Therefore, this user is more or less profitable, who earn Bitcoin and sells it right away at a good price.
