Title: Holding BTC vs Day trading or short term trading.
Post by: Zerogreens on November 04, 2017, 01:20:41 PM
So I have been in crypto for a while now, February precisely, and regrettably I wish I had never dabbled into day trading or short term trading. I have been burnt a lot trying to play the game of trading. Often times I end up buy too high thereby becoming a bagholder, and when I finally sell, it's at a loss.
So I can't help but wish I had just held on to my BTC. Would have been grinning from ear to ear today.  #Lessonlearned

Day trading or short term trading is not for everyone and requires a certain skill set as well as mental control. Although you say you've learned your lesson perhaps what you have learned could be used to have better results again in the future, you've identified that you buy too high so try and correct this and be even stricter with what price you buy at.

Honestly the day trade was risky comparing with the long term trade. But if you are seeing about the latest chart, The day trade needs a lot of the experience. If you are playing in the big market and you will be able to loss it just in a second. But another thing about just try again and try to avoid all of mistakes.
You are leaning a lot of lesson from there.

if you learn basic of trading then you can do daily trading and you can make profit as much as you want. but yes it still too risky because the price is always changing in every time so we need to follow the chart and the market to prevent getting loss in trade. i am sure that if we are doing trading in many times then we can have experience so we can trying to make profit even its just small profit so we need to be careful when we decide to buy and sell.

That totally depends on the bitcoin state at that current day/month/situation.If you ask me,at the current situation where prices are fluctuating so much, you can easily make good money from daily trading. If the price hasn't moved notably in a week or two,you can safely hold it for a long term trading.Easy as it sounds.

short term trading is not such an easy job, it really require a lot of practice and experience, without good experience. In short term investment it is too much important that one may have good experience, because short term investment is more risky than long term investment. It is too much important that you must be more active while doing short term investment. In long term investment you can take

It is essential to learn as much about technical analysis as you can. That is a skill. Anyone can learn a new skill. You just have to keep learning and be sure you are making an educated guess with as much research/chart analysis done as possible.

It completely depends upon the user, his necessity along with capital affordability. When the user can afford big, holding btc is good, because it is risk free. Day trading is the best to get regular profit, but needs long time to be spent on analyzing the market. Short term trading too is possible, but having diversified asset helps with profiting on short term trading.

Both are very profitable depend on the type of trader you are and the trading plans you have in place. Trading is very risky and days trading is more risky than buying and holding as the analysis is very hard. Days trading has to scape the market for little profit or loss opportunity and buying and holding are Targeting  for big profits in the long run. I have done days trading during my forexs and commodities trading and one thing that I have find out is that you can make good money today and lose all tomorrow but long term investment always end up in profits.

If you are new to all of this you should just hold BTC. Look how well it's been performing lately. At the beginning of the year it was around 1500 USD and now it's pushing past 7000 USD and the fun is just getting started. Expect to see bigger gains each year until it reaches it's full potential in about 30 years from now. The whole world still has to adopt Bitcoin, think about that.

I have been burnt a lot trying to play the game of trading.

i think this is an issue that we all have experienced.

what i do is two things. first i choose the market that i can speculate better and be more successful at. for example many of the altcoins are more suitable for me most of the times.
second i trade only when i am sure. my strategy is to never buy anything unless i have good reason to. i never buy to hope price goes up. i buy because i am fairly certain the price is going up. this can reduce the number of trades that i make but i prefer less trades and less profit with 0 loss than lots of trades with bigger profit but a lot of losses to negate all that!

I think that short term trading is the best alternative of the three as people that have the nerve to deal with crypto markets tend to earn on the long run as crypto markets are bullish. You'd be unlucky to buy stuff the top prior to another fall though, it had happened to many people but holders in the end were avenged by new all time highs.

we can not compare it one and another because it has its own advantage and disadvantage.
to be honest day trade is needed for them who want to read the market and sharpen their skill in trading.
holding or long trade is like a saving and do not require much skill behind it,because all that we need to do just holding it.
just like you i burned a lot of money because of short trade,
we burned it because we're thinking about how much profit that we will get everyday while doing a daily trade,
but in reality if short trade is a choice for them who want to sharpen their skill in trading not chasing for profit.
after a while you will understand what i am talking about,
because you will not forever holding it and sometime you will do the short one just to check and want to know how it goes,
so you can make a move for a long one

You mentioned that you were in the ship last February, so if you just have been patient and waited for a couple of months just what like most of us did here, you could have tripled your money no sweat and just by sleeping day in day out. I also dabbled into day trading a year ago and found out that the stress isn't just for me. I was successful on trading during crashes since the spread is too good to miss but focusing solely on day trading, I haven't had any success at. If you really want to get into the trading action, I advise you to just arbitrage and trade when there's a huge price gap in between different exchanges. These spreads help you gain profit the most and watching the markets like a hawk every day isn't worth it if you haven't had any official training/schooling about it.

I feel a bit better when some guys mentioned 'everyone's been burnt before'. Lol. At least I get to console myself I'm not the only poor decision maker.
Let's look at this for a minute. Around Feb this year $5000 could have fetched about 6btc. If I HODLed I would have had $5000 * 7, 7BCH, some CLAM and Gbyte airdrops etc etc.
All this would have been possible if I had taken the risk free way of HODLING! But no,  I had to trade some stupid altcoins!

Holders will make a profit without any doubt. But what about that pip hunters which called day traders? They gonna to lose after any sharp price change. Short term trading brings risks which can cause you to lose deposit.

Day trading is really risky stuff generally (IF we speak about stocks, shares, etc) but many many times riskier is trading cryptos. One day you win all, next day you can loose all -
 IF we speak about Alts.

But If we speak speak about BTC then I would reccommend to choose only long terms investment.

P.s I got burnt too in past even I am new in crypto world, relatively...

Daytrading is a skill. It is not for beginners. REALLY it isn't.

That said, daytraders need specialized tools. There are plenty out there for stock daytraders, futures daytraders and Forex daytraders. There is almost nothing for crypto daytraders.

Our PC software trading platform (www.medvedtrader.com) now if fully integrated with GDAX (and a bunch of other more conventional brokers) to pull down the data and to trade. It has all the features daytraders require -  charts, tech. indicators, scans, alerts, etc. This kind of software is common for traders in regular markets, but is severely lacking for crypto trading. That's why we connected it to GDAX, so that crypto traders can utilize the same methods to trade that Forex traders can (since crypto is basically Forex).

Integrations with other exchanges (Bitfinex and HitBTC to start with) are coming shortly.

It doesn't cost anything to try - go to www.medvedtrader.com, register, download the software and run it.

Choose to trade instead of holding might look like a good idea, but the true is that in most cases it isn't. History has shown that people who invest in a good asset and hold for the long term manage to outperform most traders.
The problem is that you hear more about people who make a lot of money in this market, and little regarding those who lose money, which are the vast majority.

In my opinion depend on the skill and psikilogis of trading that we have, if we dont have skill and can not control emotion for the better just hold strong fundamental coin like BTC and ETH, by make investment in these coin is easy way to make profit.  And if we have skill in altcoin trading(Paired BTC), better do short trading because the price of BTC going up fast now. And for longterm altcoin trading is very risky, because mostly altcoin now their price just pump dump.

The thing with trading is that it is very hard to consistently pull off profitable trades (every single day if you day trade). It all sounds great, buy low sell and everyone's coin will moon at some point and some other blablabla. But 9/10 times  (especially if you are trading in the current market) you will find yourself with coins that are worth 50% less than you bought them for. So what I like to do is capitalize on big market moved. Let's say the China crash of early September. We watched the price tank down and at around $3200 I've started buying the dip and a lot of big personalities in crypto did as well (e.g. Tuur Demeester openly tweeter that he was buying the dip). So you really want to capitalize on those kind of moves instead of investing in 20 altcoins or ICO'S.

For me because I dont have time to analysis the market and also sometimes I can not control emotion during trading, I prefer to hold BTC for longterm investment. By hold BTC is good idea and easy way  to gain profit from market. Day trading only fo expert trader and for  trader who has patiently.

not all the times you can earn on doing day trading, even if you got skills on how to handle your investments you cant still predict what will happen on the market therefore luck is still needed in order to earn a profit when trading. i believe holding is the best way to earn big income and also easier to to do than day trading because you dont need to watch the price oftenly but overall both of them has a risk.

I'm sure holding longer-term bitcoin will be surely profitable, bitcoin is keeping evolving and widely used. As comparisons look at bitcoin price from 2009 to nowadays the increments are huge. And I if bitcoin keep gaining attention I bet the price will continue the uptrend movement

For me in my opinion it's better to sell BTC in short term trading. Because you will never know when it will pump and dump :) as you can see there is a time which bitcoin getting dump and other coins will rise. Better sell it in short term trading then buy again if the price will dump.

Same here, I also have learned my lesson well in short trading. I did the same thing as you did OP and ended up more losses when selling until I decided to stop doing trading and go for long term trading instead. I left almost all of my altcoins on the same exchange site as I did when I did short term trading and just hold those coins for a couple more years, anyways it was my spare money I used to trade so I don't really need it yet as of now.

The volatility is high so i would go on investment in short periods of time, depending of the marketplace trend. If you can make a bonus of, let's say 1 dollar then you are on the right track, the result is positive, not negative. The same goes with bigger amounts of money.

Day trading seems so complicated as it requires more emotional control that in a daily basis. This management is hardly been effective as a human are full of mode swings and it will be something to be avoided at first hand. You were right, holding in long term is the best thing to do because it only requires patience and trust to bitcoin. And that is easier to achieve.

day trading is pretty hard as it requires eye coordination to watch the charts movements everyday and also it requires great timing to sell and make a profit. short term trading is good on bitcoin becuase bitcoins value is incresing in a short time and lastly  holding btc or long term trading is also good and verry easy to do because you will do nothing on it rather than checking the price once a month or a year , though altcoins is the best on this.

Instead of trading in other altcoins if you had investment money in bitcoin as part of your day trading routine you would have made a lot of money by now because the price of bitcoin is on the rise for a very long time and when the price of bitcoin keeps increasing and if you are a day trader in alt coins, shit like these happens, look at the market and make up your plan to be profitable.

For this purpose there are two very usefull tools. One is stop loss. place a limit where you sell at a loss, but is a loss that you expect you can recover from. The other is play with coins you believe long therm and where you are bag holding, just wait. the market have cycles and you you are in a red or even black cycle you just wait.

Any business based on bitcoin, would surely bring a good return to the owner now. As you said, if you have held the bitcoin you had, would have brought more profit by now. Still you have good time now. Better buy few bitcoins or earn bitcoins form this forum and hold what you earn. You may certainly get more profit including the one you expected earlier.

1 year is long term? That's still what I consider to be a short term investment. At this point it's safe to say that people who are looking to cash out some of their profits with the intention to buy back at far lower levels ($2000-$3000'ish), will definitely end up in a big disappointment. Especially when you consider that institutional capital is knocking on Bitcoin's doors.

Let's compare with short term , as I know bitcoin trading quite risky because their value still volatile compare with wall street trading
Lol. Traders are explicitly looking for volatility, which is something they can't get enough of. So no, it's not at all a disadvantage of any sort for these people. Of course, there is more overall risk, but that's what traders agree with when they are looking to benefit from this market's wild fluctuations. Also, you can't just compare Bitcoin's blatantly thin market with how insanely liquid stock markets for example are. Bitcoin's market needs time to catch up and eventually end up with more overall stability.

Yes buy more now and save it for the big profit in the future because bitcoin can be able to give a big profit for those holders of this coin and also those earlier investors who holds bitcoin for a long time and earn a profit.

Actually, day-trading is not a good idea IF you have a small capital invested in cryptocurrency. Small investors usually find themselves having a big LOSS in trading (daytrading) bitcoin because their small investment can't actually take the price adjustment. In average, bitcoin price change by plus or minus 5%, but in these past few weeks, bitcoin price has tremendously rise up by an average of almost 10%-20%. The problem here is that, if these small investors invested $100-$500 in bitcoin these past few weeks (price is $7,400), and the bitcoin price dropped suddenly by 20%, then that would be a less $100 from his investment. Holding is still the ideal thing in cryptocurrency.

Short term trading is also profitable, Even that your gaining small profits it will still grow when you save it all. Holding btc is more profitable but still you need to use some of your coins for your daily needs so i prefer that you should trade everyday and monitor the market if you use bitcoins for living.

It depends on what you want but all of your example terms is profitable and of course much better if you hold your bitcoin for long period of time because value of bitcoin are non stop to increase and if you have huge bitcoin it can generate huge amount of profit. But if you have small amount of capital much better to invest in in short term like trading and icos just you need time and more effort to research for good coin.

#Lessonlearned

day trading and  short term trading is actually not bad nor good either and you can probably earn a good income on it if you know what you doing because you know trading is not an easy thing to do therefore you have much understanding and doing your own research about how stuffs works in order to adapt it and make a profit on it. though most of us are still prefer long term holding because that is seems easy to do compare to the  other two.

It seems that you are a beginner in this field but do not get disturbed because it is very common to face losses at first. Trading requires a lot of experience and an analytical thinking to get the most out of it.

Just focus on the price of various digital currencies and only buy at low prices and sell when price is quite high. In this way you can earn profit that would be helpful to you for buying some more coins and repeating the cycle along with some savings that could be utilized for other needs.

Day trading or short term trading is not for everyone and requires a certain skill set as well as mental control. Although you say you've learned your lesson perhaps what you have learned could be used to have better results again in the future, you've identified that you buy too high so try and correct this and be even stricter with what price you buy at.
It is certainly not for everyone and that is the mistake most newbies in trading always make.
They usually feel they can just gamble their way into trading, make some decisions that they feel could be right and then end up being wrong.

They are always the FOMOs most time looking for the coin that is rising and then trying to quickly make some gains and just like the OP ends up being bag holders.

Anyone who wants to trade very good, should first consider the kind of coins they want to trade, then always look for the best position and then have patience until they hit with some strategies too, in case they are losing.

For me in my opinion it's better to sell BTC in short term trading. Because you will never know when it will pump and dump :) as you can see there is a time which bitcoin getting dump and other coins will rise. Better sell it in short term trading then buy again if the price will dump.
Everyone has his own opinion but I think otherwise. I think of holding of bitcoin as the most appropriate option. It is you who has to decide as per your own skillset and experience. For me, holding is the best thing to do but things may be little different in your case. Short term investment is also a very good thing to do but for that you needs to be very, much active and sharp minded person.

Short term trading is also profitable, Even that your gaining small profits it will still grow when you save it all. Holding btc is more profitable but still you need to use some of your coins for your daily needs so i prefer that you should trade everyday and monitor the market if you use bitcoins for living.
Short term trading is really very profitable if you have some good amount to trade with. I have been doing short term trading for months and I have made some very good increase in my BTC amount since then. You just have to find the perfect portfolio and then stick to them.

Once you have some pretty good strategies with your trading, you will never go wrong and that includes having strategies for getting out of losses too. Day trading is much more stressful and you can lose a lot if you do not do it well.

Good you have learnt your lessons and which obviously balls down to the fact that you did not learn before starting to trade or you just followed some signals blindly and you were led wrongly. The thing is that it is better to hold and not trade at all when you do not have the skills to trade because you will always get burnt. Lots of people have, and so many people will even in future. However, if you are good, short term trading has been very effective, for me anyway and you can make a whole lot from it.

There are people who have a good touch for trading and for these kinds of people, trading would be the better choice. For most of us though, holding ia the safest way dealing with btc. If you're having a hard time with the ups and downs of the market, stay put with your btc

Short trading can be learned though but would really takes time for you to master it and would really depend if a person can easily caught up or do have the time to put into day trading which we do know it does really require too much time and effort fro you to master it.Even professional traders do commit mistakes and in the situation of newbie we do really make mistakes and cant be avoided since we do lack of knowledge but later on when we do already know those things we would really avoid that on next trades.

I have seen a whole lot of them growing hugely over time and giving the investors a very huge profit at the end.

It is good to hold the coin for the long term but you must be aware of the market situation too,if i made a profit and if i knew a big correction is coming i would sell off the coins and wait for the market to correct and then plan on entering it,rather than thinking about the future.

Agreed! If you are not having some good plan back in your mind, then you’ll not be able to get anything good in result no matter which option you chose. I personally think of holding of bitcoin as the best option amongst all other options. It is because of the reason that holding of bitcoin actually means that you are going to have more amount of money at the end. The only thing which you need to do is to remain patient.

My advice to you is that you should not go for day trading as your experience shows much about the lack of knowledge regarding the correct choice of coins in this type of trading. You should rather try to hold your coins because if there is on fork luckily, then the price gets high hence leading to earning money without any sort of investment. Day trading is short term method and it requires you to be experienced in this field so avoid it at beginner level.

I agree because I did try short term trading before and it really needs for you to have knowledge in trading and you have to have time for the short term or day trading itself if you want to earn profits everyday. It was hard for me and very time consuming so what I did was I switched to long term trading instead which also gives me ample time to learn more about trading.

Day trading is indeed very difficult and risky too. The only way to get profit from day trading is to have a VAST KNOWLEDGE of digital currency and a lot amount of coins.
I am saying a lot of amount of coins here because in day trading the price wont rise much but if you have invested a lot of coins , overall you will be in a lot of profit even if every single coin raise by a very small amount.

Before i prefer long term trading since holding bitcoin in long term will gave you huge returns especially if you bought bitcoin during it was cheap and this method is preferable to early holders but now since the price is this high and you are planning to buy bitcoins i suggest that you should hold it in short term since bitcoin price inflates very fast this time like what happened this week bitcoin fell around 5500 due to the cancellation of segwit2x but in just 1 week it recovered so holding it within a month is suitable.

I don't want to hold too long since I feel there's a season for the alts and a season on bitcoin. I'll be back into day trading in the near future though when alt market will start to rise.

There is a lot of noise in the market for crypto. If you think you can handle those noisy situations and find out what is the Technical analysis and Market sentiment, you can do the trade with profit, but you have to be Discipline, That is most important. Be active in the market. Keep yourself updated.

Or you can just HODL. No Noise. Peaceful Life. No worries of Market Manipulation. Peace out.

Holding BTC for less than a year is not profitable, better buy some good ICOs and get really good profits in a short period.
Btc has so huge capital than is not easy to double anymore.
Day trading is much more profitable but also has higher risks.

Holding bitcoin is basically for everyone as its easy as buying the bitcoins and forgetting about for a long time until value grows.

Then day trading and short term trading is basically for advanced crypto users who understand the crypto market and know what they are doing.
But I prefer just holding as its less stressful as compared to trading.

This is the most common mistake on which a certain trader would really experience specially if we are really new on it. Its normal and even myself do experience this thing but its not a valid reason for me to stop but decided to push even more but in more knowledgeable way.Since you do experience mistakes then you would really be aware on your next possible move since you do have the idea on what you would do on next trades.
Either holding or short term trading as long you do know on what you are doing you would really make profits.

I give you one example. if you have 0.1 btc, keep 0.05 btc in the bitcoin and use 0.025 btc for daily trading and use the other 0.025 btc for short term trading. from this example, I guess you can figure out what its mean for you and I hope you can solve your problem. you need to learn more about trading so with 0.025 btc, you can make a profit in daily and short term trading.

I have the same experience too, day trading didn't work for me that very well. Already lost around .2 BTC last year and was been victimized by spammers, which I think, members from pump and dump groups. I was new and very aggressive at that time, even I'm equipped with enough research and knowledge, things gets worst and worst, couldn't control my emotions and end up with nothing.

Anyways, its been a year already and I've already learned my lesson. I can handle my finances very well these days and decided to stick with holding rather going back to trading. Maybe, it's not really our forte after all.

I divided my budget, and do my plans accordingly. I can express this plan as shown below. It works for me for weeks.

-25% for day trade in altcoins.
-50% for holding.
-25% for ico participatin and contribution.

You can simple make this kind of plans.

Make a split on day-trading and holding on BTC. I think the best rate is 3:1 (day-trading 3, holding btc 1)

Day trading or short term trading is better than holding bitcoin because you maximize the volume of your bitcoin but their the risk of getting losing it if your not good in trading.
Yes, at least, these two helps you to keep increasing what you are holding. It is more like having the function of holding and benefitting on the value and as well increasing what you have in numbers so you can even get more from it. Based on the risk though and how long I have been trading, it is a worthy risk to take for the good course.

If you asking here about that, you will get some various answer and opinion.
In my opinion, if crypto trading, i will do long term or holding my asset and selling them when its high.
Thats my prefer.
That is normal and that is based on everyone's experience. However, even holding for a long term is still more like trading but what you are looking at is to hold for a very long term rather than taking advantage of the volatility which though it is risky.  Holding is less risky, but like they always say, the more the risk, the more the potential to earn more.

I think it would be better to hold Bitcoin. The price of all the coins is now less.Bitcoin is increasing day by day and the price of altcoins decreases day by day.Now buy altcoins short time trading seems like a risk.Bitcoin can safely hold.Bitcoin is the safest investment.
Bitcoin is great investment no doubt in it. You can’teven think of bitcoin as dying currency so, if you believe in this fact that bitcoin will stay longer than better is to make bitcoin as you investment. Prices for bitcoin is increasing day by day and a time come when there will be so short number of bitcoins and only those will be profitable who would have held bitcoin with them.

It's actually depends on someone's capabilities but sometimes shit happens as we didn't expect it's coming.
Since the current price of bitcoin is in the sky and while the alts are left behind I switch to swing trading from day trading as the big whales now are also into swing trading so the pump and dump are hard to achieve as well as the day trade. It's kinda risky though so just hold it when you can bare the risk.

In trading I prefer to do short-term trading or day trading, usually I get benefit only from small pump pump which often happens. and for me it was so much fun ;D
Short term trading and most especially when it comes to positioning trading has always been a very good one to profit and reduce the risk of losing if you can do it right. I have made a lot from short term and the risks are less if you have a good strategy in knowing how to position your trade. However, it is always good if you have a lot to trade with whereas day trade can help you make a lot even with small bucks.

IMO day trading is better than only hold BTC. But it's also more risky than holding BTC cause you can lose sometime when you made wrong decision. But it'll be ok if you have enough experience and skill in trading :D
With day trading, you can make a whole lot of money in the process if you are smart and can make good quality decisions. It is obviously not an easy task to do but it can be worth it. I have known guys who used daytrading to increase the very little they have been holding for a while. The risk is huge and you have to know how to trade well as you can get burnt when you make the wrong move.

You should only do day trading if you are expert and have mastered all the skills required to read charts and other indicators. If you are just learning, than it is better to select 3 or 5 coins and invest equal amount in them and hold it for long term. Even if 2 coins wont make you good money, other three will.

If you trade Bitcoin and are good/lucky enough to time the buys and sells correctly, then you will make more money trading than holding. I have had times when the price of Bitcoin had a big increase and I sold, but the the price kept rising and I lost out on some more big profits. My suggestion is to hold some Bitcoins for long term and trade a little. This way you are doing both and you won't miss out of big gains like I did. Another negative to day trading is that it takes a lot of your time if you want to do it right. You have to be watching the charts every day.

With the great applications of high bitcoin and high level of security, I believe that bitcoin will replace USD as the world currency. Precisely, you don't need to choose between those 3 because all of them are going to give you profits if you are going to do it in the right way, if you are only excelling in one of those three, then you don't have to do it all, just pick one, and focus on it then that is it, that is how you are going to make profits that you wanted, though doing all of those will give you more.

Of course, in the long term period it is more profitable just to hold your bitcoins. There many "non-system" risks in trading, even with very accurate work of trader. These include-manipulation of the market by whales, changing the rules of your exchange and much more. And do not forget the lack of regulation in most countries - it also complicates the work.

I agree with you because there are too many things that will happen in the cryptocurrency and if we are not ready then we cannot make any profit and we are going to lose much money. I think it is better to just hold bitcoin if we don't have any skills and we cannot control our emotional status and we are going into panic situations. it still safe to just holding bitcoin and don't take a look at the market in every day to avoid panic situations and we stay calm if the worst thing is to happen.

I agree. There is no the skills nor emotion control then i'm sure that we may panic sell when the market fluctuate.
Now, many people are joining the crypro market without preparation of knowledge before, this is too dangerous because the movement of market is very big, we can easy many coin that its price can go up or down more than 30% in a day, if we can't know what is happening in the market then many potential you will buy at high price and sell low price.
The best we should learn all knowledge before. If we have knowledge we can give exactly decisions in this market.

Day trading is what I also consider as the most profitable form of trading as far as it is done by using a volatile asset like bitcoin that actually shows some changes within 24 hours but it demands too much work and is tough too. Even A person who well understands trading as well as the digital market cannot deal it with ease.Hooding is the easiest job and short term trading is easier than day trading.

I think the right way to trade is an only long term.
You buy it and silence it a few months, then we can see that the price keeps increasing.

And buy it should be at the right time. Suppose February to March a few months ago when altcoin was completely destroyed. Well, we can see it now, the market is on fire and it's more than 50% rise compared to last month.

That thing with trading it is very hard to consistently pull of good and profitable trades (especially if you try to do it every day). It all sounds great, buy low and sell high, but most of the time you will see that what you've bought before is 50% of price than it was when you bought it

That depends on your capability either as an investor or trader. If you have a good knack on how the market words, and you can commit to actually follow it closely, then trading can be a good alley for you because it could really give a lot of profit, and the good part about it is the idea that you can get it seemingly real-time, unlike holding, which is a passive venture so to speak because you would only need to buy, and basically, forget about what bought until such time it would be ripe for selling.

I think that at the moment you should trade bitcoin in the short term, you can see that the market is fluctuating continuously and it is difficult to guess, bitcoin prices are also fluctuating a very large day so if you Long-term investment in bitcoin will be very dangerous. Time and skillset which you have are the most important things and that they are the most significant things in helping you in making this choice of going for either short term investment of money or long-term investment of money. Right. As far as i know, day trading really needs more experience and skill. You cannot just buy anytime and end up at loss. You have to study all its chart movement so you will be knowledgeable if its best to make day trade that time.If you're not so sure about it,you can choose to hold your investments for a long time. Many have become rich too following this method.

I believe that at the present time you should trade by day, you can see that bitcoin prices in the past few days are constantly adjusting in huge amplitudes and will survive a lot of risk if you trade them. Therefore, to minimize the risk and control the capital you should trade, have specific plans on profit and stop loss.

All this decision should according which level price you bought Bitcoin, for example if you bought BTC in a week ago in my opinion you have to hold it in a few month because the price has more possible to going up to $20,000 or possible to surpass this price.  Technical analysis is very helpfull to know the price in overbough or oversold.

I have the same view as you, can see that the market in recent days are constantly fluctuating and in very large areas, so the commercial by day will minimize the risk for you. Short-term trading helps you to earn instant profits and reduce risk when bitcoins fall sharply while you are holding altcoin. If you trade long term, the risk and damage will increase dramatically over time and you will not be able to preserve your capital.

to be a trader crypto it's not easy for us to do, especially if we new just know him, to be a trader today we must have a good analysis and strategy to be able to gain profit, if we can not to trade day, we will have defeat , we better invest only, by choosing to buy coins that have good potential, to be kept for a long period of time.

In my personal mind it depends on the skills and psychology of each of us. If we don't have this two points enough then we can't control our emotional status and may panic sell everything that we have.
Time and skillset which you have are the most important things and that they are the most significant things in helping you in making this choice of going for either short term investment of money or long-term investment of money. I will personally go for long term investment of money but if you want to make fast earning, then you must rely on short term investment of money or day trading.
Only those who have years of experience in trading they can make money in day trading it needs a lot of time and analytical skills and crypto knowledge, more importantly, you must know when to invest and where to invest. you have other work to do then don't choose this day trading to go for long term holding.

One of the simplest ways, but not the fastest, is the participation in the Bounty campaigns of ICO organizers. For the fulfillment of certain tasks you get their coins, which you can then sell for bitcoin and just hold it. Then you can trade with this money or buy equipment and mine cryptocurrencies.

I think be a bag holder is not too bad and most importantly is you can analyzed it well.
But a day trader will be a choice when you don't have enough of ability to analyze the coin.
Daily Trading also requires analysis, even day trading is more risky when Bitcoin prices are unstable. should do daily trading and long term we never know the market situation that will happen in the future.

I myself prefer short-term trading because it is very fast to develop bitcoin and also hold for the future.
I think we should only invest bitcoin in the short term at the moment, you can see that although bitcoin prices are recovering very strongly in the past few days but overall the bitcoin price is still in cycle By the end of 2018, you should only trade short-term at this time, which is safe and profitable. You should not invest long-term because the risk is very high.

Holding BTC vs Day trading or short term trading.                 IMO day trading is better than only hold BTC. But it's also more risky than holding BTC cause you can lose sometime when you made wrong decision. But it'll be ok if you have enough experience and skill in trading.bitcoins i suggest that you should hold it in short term since bitcoin price inflates very fast this time like what happened this week bitcoin fell around 5500 due to the cancellation of segwit 2x but in just 1 week it recovered so holding it within a month is suitable.

daily trading in my opinion better than just holding bitcoin you have, when you have your bitcoin can be trading altcoin that use the bitcoin so your bitcoin can be added a lot, not just that alone with daily trading you risk fewer stuck on high price and earlier you need to have a trading skills first.

You have learn a hard lesson there Man and everyone here has his or her own story to tell on how one has lost money in one way or the other. One thing is for one to realise his/her mistake and work toward not repeating same thing in the future.
Everyone has his own way of doing the things and that he does the things the way he wants to do the things and that you can’t copy the way others are doing their job. However, you need to think and decide the things the way you want to do and the way you think you can make a better earning as this will give you a better chance of making more earning and can help you in having a comfortable living.

daily trading can be a good option only if the market is rising like a few days ago and if all coins we have increased, we can easily to sell the coin to make a profit. but it still difficult to daily trading if we are not watching directly in the market and determine which coin that will be increased. holding bitcoin can also help and only sell when the price increases and I think we can do this as we know that bitcoin price increases and decrease with a different price so our chance to make a profit will bigger.

That is one of the important point for understanding the concept of day trading and long term investment. When someone is indulged in day trading, he has to count the market ratios and shares and keep on calculating profits and losses at different points in a day. So in all this mess up, he really can’t analyze the basic nature of coin. Coins are continuously changing the way so he can’t really understand this.

That's what will always happen to a beginner trader and that's normal. I suggest, to learn without losing money by creating a demo account which is being offered by some trading website. This will be essential if you will use it in real time trading.

The simplest solution is to do both, set aside a small fraction for trading, around 20% of your total investment and use that for trading, and hold the rest.

I would prefer holding mate. It's the passive approach and as much as you can earn more by day trading. It is also so much more risky compared to holding that not everyone is fit to pursue that kind of venture. It may be easy to do on paper, but there are so many considerations one must take before being settled and a pro in trading. So, for me, who can't spend much time to learn all that, I just stick to the safer venture and that is holding.

I think you should not trade long-term bitcoin at this point, you can see that the bitcoin price in the past few days has increased but in long term, bitcoin prices are still in the bearish cycle so this is only is uptrend in short. Therefore, you need to be very careful when trading bitcoin, so trade short term.

This is actually true which you would really need up to learn lots of things into trading before you would able to suit out yourself on doing day or active trading. Some people might done it but it isnt really easy.Risk factor is high and they do already aware on that one and they do embrace the possibilities on losing big money on short timeframe.I guess the thing that boost up their dedication is on the reward given which is really decent compared on just holding bitcoin alone.

I believe that trading by day is the best option at the present time, you can see that the price of bitocin in the past days is constantly fluctuating and difficult to predict, so that it can successfully trade and low risk you need to have a specific trading plan so that you can handle every situation that can happen and not be too heavy losses.

I prefer for daily trading because I think daily trading is safer and more profitable, when daily trading you can develop the trading capital you have to buy some other coin so you can buy some existing coin and potentially to be able to generate profits.

You just said that trading will earn you quick profit and yield more profit than holding.
The problem is bitcoin still volatile so the bitcoin value can change unexpectedly.

When you just hold most of your bitcoin, you've nothing to worry because you have commit to keep hold no matter what will happen until you hold at your prefered year !

I see that in bittrex or poloniex for example, many coins that increase significant and giving a good moving so I think we can try to do day trading to make a profit. besides that, we can do day trading for trading bitcoin too because bitcoin is up and down in many times so it will give us another profit too.

There are really members who are really good at doing short term trading and even profiting daily by taking advantage of the wild price swing specially in the last 3 months. However, this time in a market like what we are seeing today (bull run), I don't think that is its profitable. This is the best time to do long term hold simply because the price is slowly gaining some ground and next thing we know we already in the $10K mark. So yes, short or day trading has its advantage, but it you don't want any hassle, holding is the best option for almost all of us.

You may want to buy some BTC in 6800 - 7200 range. If it drops below that then I expect some acceleration to the drop. We are constantly dropping for about a month, so I dot think there are enough sellers to justify a quick drop below 6k, but one can never know. Just use a stop loss below your entry range to be safe.

Of course you suffer losses because the market situation at that time, only able to move in the same place means no significant strength to make a higher jump.

I believe that the short-term trading method is the best option at the moment, you can see that the market is volatile and difficult to predict, only a small fluctuation of bitcoin also affects huge to the market. So short-term trading day by day will help you to minimize the risk and can profit immediately. Bitcoin prices are in a bear market in the long run so the risk is very high for long term investment.

Yes, the basic law or strategy of day trading is to buy low and sell it when there is a little rising of its price and that is the essence of day trading even if little profit but we do it continuously from time to time so profit will be granted after week end or monthly, but holding btc in a long time is more risky but when timing strike we also got a huge profit.

You can see that bitcoin prices in recent days are constantly fluctuating and difficult to kick, so it is very difficult to trade successfully at this time. The market is fluctuating continuously and in the long term, bitcoin prices are still in a bear market because if long-term investment at this time the risk will be very high and you will be able to lose a very heavy if the price. reduced bitcoin.

For me because I dont have time to analysis the market and also sometimes I can not control emotion during trading, I prefer to hold BTC for longterm investment.
These are really dependable aspects and people have to decide accordingly. People can’t just decide to go either for short term trading or for long term just because of the reason that some other friend is doing that. Like you have some different mindset to go for a different method. For someone else, this would become a different mindset and strategy, so it just varies from person to person.

maybe you can use the strategy which I used to. sometimes, if the conditions in the market is like this, I try to buy whenever the price is down and then I will sell it with quick if I see the price increases even for just $10 but at least, I will wait until the price is increase more than $40 so I can get a nice profit. this works well for me and maybe you can try this too and I hope that you can make a good profit like what I did. oh by the way, maybe you need to check the order buy and order sell so you know where is the support buy and sell.

You can see that with a market that is fluctuating constantly and it is difficult to predict the current time, successful trading is very difficult, the market is fluctuating continuously so you should only trade short DAILY DAYS to minimize risks and earn the most secure profits. The market is bearish in the long run so bitcoin prices can fall deep at any time.

The bitcoin market has gradually recovered. But an important issue that the BTC and the rest of the e-money market face is the low daily trading volume. Up to now, BTC's daily trading volume is still below $ 5 billion.

It shows that the risk in electronic money is high and has not attracted as many people as before

It's good that you already have learned your lesson since day trading is really a hard game for everyone. Like other traders say, it requires certain skills and strategy. I'm not a big fan of trading, however, i prefer long term trading. Long term trading is less risky compare to day trading. Long term trading and day trading have this common basic rule that every investor follows: buy at its lowest price, sell at its highest price. that's the key.

I would like to say that day trading is a much safer thing, just imagine that with long-term trading we do not know what will happen. although much speculation says that prices will increase, but in reality that does not happen and that is a speculation. Doing day trading is actually much safer because we always take the deal when the price increases. it does not matter when the price increases 1% then it is enough rather than having to wait a long time and there is no certainty can get a lot of profit.

I don’t think so that there is any such way using which we can make a comparison in between long-term investment of money and short-term investment of money. It is because of the reason that both the things are entirely different and that there is nothing common in between then and that you need to have different skillset to deal with either of these. It is you who must make a choice by keeping all the things in your mind.

I believe that the market is showing signs of recovery, so the bitcoin price will continue to fall deeply, so long-term investment will be very foolish, the risk will be very high if bitcoin prices fall deeply.

Yeah you are right short term investment is not for beginners. Every new investor should start from long time investment. And when he spends some time into his world, then you can be able to trade for short time and finally day trading. Day trading is very profitable but more risky than any other investment. At this point in time, I think you should only trade short-term, you can see that the market is in a bear market in the long run and bitcoin prices have fallen sharply over the past few days, Success and low risk are very difficult. In order to reduce the risk you should trade short-term bitcoin by date and always have a specific trade plan.

Day trading or short term trading is not for everyone and requires a certain skill set as well as mental control. Although you say you've learned your lesson perhaps what you have learned could be used to have better results again in the future, you've identified that you buy too high so try and correct this and be even stricter with what price you buy at.
I think that with a market that is constantly changing and difficult to predict, it is very difficult to trade successfully. Bitcoin prices are constantly decreasing and the price of altcoin drops dramatically. Therefore, you should trade short term trading at this time and do not invest long term risk will be very high.

We are still looking for better time on bitcoin. This time goes as well and time is passing by so fast. So people, don’t just lose your heart in bitcoin. For trading experience needed. If you are beginner then you should invest for long term because day trading and short term investment is not for beginners.

Because of the dump in the price of bitcoin (btc), at first I was think that i will hold my bitcoins but it comes to my mind that if I am going to hold, no more profits will I make in each day. SO, I finally decided that the remaining bitcoins I have will be used for day trading, so that I can acquire losses or profits in each day.

True, short term trading will require us to have a good knowledge related the coins we trade. Other than that, it require us to be able to make fast and good decision when to buy and when to sell. To gain such skills required experience and learning process long enough.

Everyone is saying that daytrading is only for skilful traders and better just to buy and hold, however, you will not gain skills, if you don't try.
Nobody was born with trading skills at all.
I think better to do both, hold good coins for longterm and also do short-term/daytrading.

You should decide depending on where you are using your cryptocurrency, if you use it for your daily needs then go for day trading but if you have a stable job then you can hold your coins for a very long time till it reach the highest price in the market.

it is always better if he has a stable job because he can buy his daily needs and he can also become a bagholder. he has a choice to go with trading but he needs to have the skill to analyze each coin and it cannot learn in just one day. It depends on the person who is holding the coin, they have a choice whether to hold or do day trading. For you, day trading might suit you at this time where there is a huge dump but for other people, holding works just fine. The price continue to go down but somehow it will fluctuate up after hours or a day. We can't really tell when there will be a pump and when bitcoin will finally recover. For now, to hold or to sell, do which is comfortable for you. It is your money anyways so you must also decide what to do with it, don't base it from what other people is doing.

Since I am doing a full-time job and part-time business I can not give the time and flexibility which is required for trading so I believe that trading is not my cup of tea and hence I focus more on long-term investing as I can always take some time from my schedule and use it for the research purpose which will help me to take decisions in the long run. I am not saying that trading is bad but one should be able to give his time and flexibility if he is expecting some serious profit from the short term for day trading.

Trading (day trading or short term trading)  is not meant for people with no experience or skills. Trading especially day trading can bring a lot of profits even on a daily basis if you are very careful about it.
Holding may yield profits on the long run probably over sis to twelve months but day trading gives you profits almost everyday.

You can see that bitcoin prices are constantly fluctuating in the unpredictable, the market is in the downtrend stage so the bitcoin price may continue to fall sharply at any time, you trade short bitcoin and not Long-term investment and risk holdings will be very high, you will be able to make a heavy loss if bitcoin prices fall sharply.

For not only bitcoin and the whole market at the moment, I think the best solution is to trade short term and complete the transaction by day, you can see that the bitcoin price is constantly changing And short-term trading will help you reduce the risk and can preserve the profits. According to my analysis, the bitcoin price may continue to fall after recovering to $ 6200.

My experience when the year 2016 backwards most like every day trading because Bitcoin every day there is always a rise and fall in prices.

Different as it is now to see Altcoins is already opaque as its price drops down and uncontrollable. I also experienced a decline from my total capital of about 50%.

well way back for the time that bitcoin and altcoin are not on the danger zone for its price but as of now as the price rech on the peak price then drops sharply on the very weak price of it this is really hard to identify whether this can ever be back of may still remain on that , so more over making decision for what are the best thing to do are undefinable.

You can see that bitcoin prices are showing a strong recovery, although the market is showing signs of a strong recovery but I think you should be careful because the bitcoin price can drop sharply at any time.

Because all these threes ways are profitable but we need to have lots of patience in case of btc holding and long term trading .
Most of the people in this field are doing short term trading and few big earners are doing day trading ( because small %  of profit Results into big profit of amount ) .
And also there are lots of people who kept only earning btc and holding them for future , so that they can make big earning with bitcoin and also they can make Thier earnings in multiple times because pump will be hard in the future .
So here all ways are better for earnings , we just need to do work in every way , but only hardwork will not give money , here we need to have lots of experience and skills to Handel them to make trading into better profit .

for a low price like this I think is very good and suitable if we make a lot of dengab purchase and hold bitcoin we have until the price back up to be expensive, we better do in the long term.

The market is so boring and altcoins are not doing any improvement in the last couple of months and I don't want to waste my time gaining nothing so I do both daytrading and short term trading. I get it now that bear period is really for short term trades.

Well what it is done it is done, what you need to do is to concentrate to try to get that money back since there is no point in remaining still and do nothing, now I know that with the price this high it is going to be a lot more difficult to get your money back but if you want to enjoy the benefits of selling your bitcoin for a very high price then you need to get bitcoin in the first place.

I think at this point you can completely invest in bitcoin and also trading day, the market in the past few days are fluctuating continuously and you can see that bitcoin prices are constantly rising and are uptrend in short term. Bitcoins will be able to rebound to $ 10000 in the coming days so you can buy bitcoins at the moment.

I believe that if you invest long term at this point you are sure to lose a lot, you can see that after the bitcoin price recovered slightly to $ 8500 then the current point has continued. reduced to $ 7500. The price of bitcoin reduced the price of altcoin fell sharply and the market is bearish in the long run, I believe that at this time you can only short-term investment in bitcoin and trading day to be minimized risk.

You just bought on the all time high. Bitcoin is still a good for short term especially at this long bear period. I've seen many people do it and it is
profitable. You could have just keep the btc you bought from all time high and buy another one that is in $6k and did some swing trades.

yes, and the solution for him is just to use the long-term trading at this moment because he doesn't have any knowledge to do day trading. he needs to learn some basic rule of trading before he can start day trading so he can prevent getting lose in trading. investing in bitcoin is a good choice for him to use long-term trading/holding because this will work well for him and he doesn't need to risk his money with day trading.

Therefore, I believe that at this time you should only trade short-term day to reduce the risk.

That's for sure in day trading you're just like a little fish in a sharks/whales field. I think if you're not sure which way you want just try trading on daily candles or 4H. If you see that you would be better in shorter frame o wider frame that go with that better option.

I think that at the present time you can hold bitcoin and trades on altcoin, you can see that the bitcoin price after several consecutive days of strong recovery is now at the bitcoin price has fallen to the $ 7500 level, I believe the bitcoin price will be able to keep adjusting to $ 7200 before continuing to rise. So you can wait for bitcoin at $ 7200, the market is fluctuating continuously and always have a plan.

So, I think you should only invest in short-term and day trading to minimize risk. The market is bearish in the long term so you should not hold long.

I think long-term holdings are better than short-term holding because the price of Bitcoin is very volatile, so prices change every time that is very important for a trader. I focus more on long-term investment as I can always take time out of my schedule and use it for research purposes which will help to make decisions in the long run.

on the other hand I prefer to be a scalper, because by analyzing the daily fluctuations, my understanding of the more subtle indicators, the difference in price in one day profoundly affects the profits, and if accumulated with long-term profits, the amount is even much greater despite having a big risk too.

At this stage, it actually depends on how long one wants to hold as for the past few months and the behavior of the market generally, we all know that is simply a hard thing to hold on to any market for long now and most especially altcoins. No one is sure how the market is going to be like in the long run, probably altcoins will be able to do their own thing without getting a hit from bitcoin, but as it is now, they get beaten hugely and one of the reasons why long term trade makes a lot of sense.

all of those are profitable depend on how you handle it.  Holdinh btc is profitable if it rise and you aqymuire it at a very low price.  Short term trading or daybtrading is also effective way on how to gain more but with a higher risk than long term.
Holding is actually something that is good for those who may not have choice than to hold anyway. Normally, it is either you are holding or you are trading as an investor and the reason a lot of people hold anyway is because they may not have the time or the knowledge to trade. However, when it comes to the idea of playing with the highs and lows in the market with that huge volatility, Holding for me is out of it, and better to trade them and increase your position in the long term.

It is better right now to buy bitcoin and hold it since the price is very cheap right now.

They are very different from each other but the very profitable strategy for me is holding because you will just hold your cryptocurrency over the time and you just need to do some understanding in the chart of the cryptocurrency and that is how you are going to plan your exit in the market in long term basis which means that you have a lot of time to feel the maximization of the profit.

Holding bitcoin may better after all than trading it if you are just too emotional when trading. If you are really serious in learning it then it would better to do it now when the price is not that high so you wouldn't be that furious when you have a loss. Just think of your losses as a tuition fee to learn more and be better with trading because you would get it back again when you are already familiar with the market and you have a strategy that would help you in achieving your goals.

but in right now, I think it's difficult to do because the market is going down and even it's down too deep. it is hard to take a profit from this moment because we need to always check the price, analyze the price from time to time, do a fast move for the coin so we can still make a profit. I think holding the bitcoin is better than today trading right now unless you have skills to do that.

True the crypto market is very unpredictable no matter how much you've research, how much you analyze the price through technical and fundemental sides. If whales decides to sell all your strategical analysis will be all for naught. Day trading is very risky it takes a very experience trader to make profit in this bearish marker or you will be converted into a holder.

Hard for some but that's what experienced day traders do. Even in a red market, day traders would takr advatage of a coin's natural volatility, meaning even small profits would be good enough and can be attained. Though of course, this would need a lot of experience and skills but that can be acquired through continuous practice.

Choosing anything out of holding, day trading and long-term trading is the most important and the most difficult job to do but you have to spend some good period of time to think about all these options and then making some final decision. Lot of things count once you make any final choice and you need to be sure that you are making the right choice which will then help you in making more money.

In my opinion to be successful here, you need to be performing all that kind of listed things at once, so what I mean basically it is that you need to hold some coins, you need to day trade, and also invest in some perspective.

Yes that is right that we cannot predict the market 100%  correct, but I think that still your research and hard work will go wasted. I think that it will surely help you take a right decision which will give you good profit and even can prevent you from lost.

in my opinion it's better to look at the market first, if a stable market is more effective in daily trading, if the market is buried I always invest not trading but if the market is good I trade with expensive coins.

indeed all daily trades have greater risk than long-term trading, but if you have time for short-term trading by always looking at market movements I think it can minimize your risk
No, day trading is the riskiest way to trade, many people with no experience or knowledge try day trading only to lose all their money, so take your time, at first make very long trades, trades that could last months are a good idea to start with then reduce this to a few weeks and keep doing that until eventually you can day trade, but personally I have not time for that and that is why I am a long term holder.

I was newbie in crypto world so I don't have bunches of knowledge about cryptocurrency but I should go to study very hard to understand what makes me more knowledgeable in crypto world. But for me I think long term investment is a good ways to get more profits but this strategy takes a several months or years to earn. Aside from that trading in another key for good source of income, live trading, daily trading (day trade) is also good but it was very tiring.

I guess we can hold BTC while having a day trading. It will help us to become profitable someday. If we will just focus on one part of investment, there is a tendency that we will lose more.
Day trading is effective when you can read the charts and predict the price for about an hour. It is also good if there is a bull run market. But I think it is good if we will just hold it and set for target so that it will not become hassle to us.
