Title: Trolls
Post by: Nightowlace on June 17, 2013, 12:20:03 PM
Anyone care to speculate on how many trolls exist on bitcointalk now? Seriously it's like every time I read a thread now someone is posting rude, obscene, smart ass, are competitive product posts in other people's threads and items for sale posts.

Feel free to vent your frustrations here.

Yeah me 2!
Where's Smoothy anyway?
and I actually mis proudhon sometimes. Dude even got his own song and all and now he's gone...

On a serious note, the bear is on and people need to vent their frustrations. I don't mind trolling as long as their posts have some substance.
The thing that annoys me most is the increasing number of trolls without any fundaments in their trolls... uhh... posts

I agree it's like dude if you owned a jewelry store and went across the street to another jewelry store trying to sell your items to their customers what do you think would happen?

On trade's lending topic a bunch of people were flaming his terms and calling him a scammer. I think it is up to customers to decide whether they trust him or not, I don't see any actual reports on him for scamming.

What do you mean, the people who post utter nonsense, complete bullshit, irrelevant, and smart ass posts aren't your favorite? ....... Yeah me either. It's like at least put some thought, logic or god forbid a few facts into your post.

There is a Scam label maybe a SPAM label would also be appropriate. That way all the noobs and even more veteran members would know not to waste there time with the nonsense they would just go "oh spam guy, right, cool post brah"

Hahaha.

Yeah but its not right for someone to just jump into someones topic before a customer buys and say they'll offer a better deal. A lot of scammers could do this.

So what would happen in the scenario I suggested? Do you think it would end well? What about other examples like do you see Gap employees in American Eagle stores? Or McDonalds employees at Burger Kings?

It's called class and respect. If people are looking to buy they will find the best option for their purchase.

Sounds pretty statist to me.

How so? Because we would like people to operate with some class? Some respect? It's only because this is a forum that allows users to post comments. In any other situation this would not be an option. If this were to happen offline and in a public setting I'm sure it wouldn't end well.

I used to manage a night club a long time ago and a competing night club sent there bouncers in to try and recruit our bartenders. You know what happened? I will tell you moderators, police, government etc had no part in the fact that the owner sent our bouncers to feed their bouncers their own teeth.

It is a free market, however this is not a public forum and when the OP has no recourse it's bullshit. Period.

Free market means you have right to open your thread and customers will chose where to buy, not that you can come in my tread to advertise your product!

Thank you gentlemen. I hope we all learned something from this, namely how easy it is to troll BTCTalk.

And thus the question becomes: Who is really the problem here? The troll smelling an easy target or the easily trolled target? I'd wager to say, the later.

It happens, many major companies have been found to post reviews about website claiming they are scamming or unreliable. It's a known fact that it works, and discourages potential buyers.

As much as I hate it, it's going to continue to happen.

But this is how the free market works and we can't even exercise that here, it is up to the consumers to do research before and if we are giving them more options to look into, I don't see the harm.

No, I'm not advocating or threatening I stated that already though.

Think of a sales/auction thread like someone's store. You wouldn't go into someone else's store to try and gain customers and that store wouldn't let you advertise there. So stay out.

Yes I would cause that is called a plan, you realized that internet companies do a lot worst but yeah no one cares. Free market welcome to it.

I stated I'm sure it wouldn't end well based on past experience of what I've seen. Further in thread I specifically mentioned that I wouldn't nor do I advocate violence. I forgot you live in NYC and everyone there clearly handles things calmly and professionally. You've never seen things like this "not end well"

It's always been that policy here, so since people are using this forum and not another, that would mean the free market has decided already.

I said it wasn't allowed, I'm the moderator who posted here earlier as well. I was responding to gweedo's assertion that it's hindering the free market when we don't allow people to spam others business threads, when if you actually follow that train of thought to the end, it would actually be the result of a free market.

You just told me to steal! WOW dude stop I am not committing crimes for you. Also this is the internet, very different. I think if my site is better than the site advertising that is my opinion until the free market decides. I don't see a problem with it ad on a another thread, about another service that maybe even better.

If a person starts a thread to sell or auction their belongings or services you shouldn't be trolling that thread and posting competitive products or services in that thread. That's what we are talking about. Go make a different thread with your product. Post it in your signature line etc. but do not troll competitors threads and market your products/services in their thread.

When was the last time you saw a Pizza Hut flyer inside of a Sbarro? Do you see Windows 8 brochures inside an Apple store? Okay well then let's not "market" on other people's sales threads. That's their "store" not yours, and not a public place for you to "market"

This isn't brick and morar, first off marketing doesn't work like that cause when your in a store, you either go their for a reason or they draw you in. So Kinda is pointless to market inside a store. On a forum it is different, this is helping people make decisions. Can you please launch a company in the same space as me in month I would love to see whose will succeed and whose will fail. I can say my would be 100x better thans yours any day of the week just cause of marketing.

Dude it's called common courtesy not to post your for sale sign in someone else's sale thread. Market all you want, post ads, buy signatures, use google Adwords, post Facebook ads, by email addresses, SEO, twitter feed, send out free samples to be rated and reviewed, and on and on and on. BUT DO NOT POST YOU'RE "IM SELLING THIS TOO" in someone else's thread that is offering same item for sale. There is a reason why it's not allowed here.

Name three other places online that will allow you to go on someone else's sale thread and post your items for sale. eBay? Bitmit? Amazon? Any?

The idea is that this is a forum for communicating about Bitcoin FIRST.  If all threads devolve into everyone out-advertising each other then the forum will become MORE useless than it is now.

I guess I thought that a user could moderate their own threads, if they are so created that way to begin with.  Doesn't that make this a moot point?

Why do you have just attack? Did run out of logical arguments to prove your point?

Why should I respect someone who has no respect for others?

Just cause I employ a certain method for marketing makes me not have any respect LMAO you probably have a hard time finding work then.

Anyway, you are clearly the troll in this situation, I have done nothing but respected you and your opinion and actually explained my reasoning, but you just think calling someone names makes you automatically smarter and better. That really isn't how it works. But keep thinking that. ;)

I will not get in too a pissing match with you on this one. All I will say is that I have been very fortunate in my endeavors and am very thankful for it.

Anyway, you are clearly the troll in this situation

How so? This is my thread.

I have done nothing but respected you and your opinion and actually explained my reasoning, but you just think calling someone names makes you automatically smarter and better. That really isn't how it works. But keep thinking that. ;)

I understand that's not how this works. I have a very different opinion of how things should be done. Respect goes a long way and I believe is what has contributed to my success thus far in my life. I think it was said best that "for every customer you pick up you will lose 10".

I still for the life of me can not understand your mentality. Maybe you can break it down for me in a different way because I honestly think their is a misunderstanding here.

Example-
I sell Casascius Coins.
I start a thread stating that I am selling Casascius Coins.
It is my sales thread that I started for the product I am offering for sale.
(this is where I want to make sure I understand you)
You feel it is okay to come on that thread and post that you are also selling casascius coins and anyone looking for them should look at your thread?

If that is what you are saying then I very much disagree with your mentality. That is not advertising, marketing or any other term that would make what you are doing sound okay. It is disrespectful, conniving, makes you look like a snake. As I said before just because this is the internet does not give you the right to troll other peoples sales thread to post competing items in said thread.

Now posting your items or referring to your items in general public threads, posting info in your signature, buying legitimate ad space etc. is all fine. By all means, please do.

There is one too many here but they exist everywhere.. its the internet.

Anyone care to speculate on how many trolls exist on bitcointalk now? Seriously it's like every time I read a thread now someone is posting rude, obscene, smart ass, are competitive product posts in other people's threads and items for sale posts.

Feel free to vent your frustrations here.
