The idea is that people from the community such as yourself generate a mining bonus for the animals when they mine the coin. That bonus is put into a special wallet known as the "Veggie fund". This fund gets liquidated slowly and steadily as time goes by, to promote stability, and the money is used to help organisations/charities, or anything that will help animals. The community votes on who/what idea receives funding with the website voting page (Currently under final construction). The Veggiecoin team will stay very small (minimising costs wherever possible) and make the most out of money raised to fund as much good for the animals, maintaining maximum communication with the community.

The premine will be used by the developers to maintain infrastructure, cover costs, freelancers, bounties for language translations and community developers. etc etc. We have no ICO, and have received no funding, so everything so far has been from our personal funds. The premine will be cover any further costs that will be presented over time.

The community will see the public transactions on the blockchain and will be able to see the amount of good they have done for animals in need :)

Members of the community are able to donate directly to the Veggie fund if they like.

20% might seem like a big number, but it truly isn't. We are not having an ICO, and we have no funding from major investors for this project. We are going to be listing on major cryptocurrency exchanges, some of which cost 1BTC or more to list  :-X . Because we have no funding, and are spending all of our own (very limited) finances on this project, a 20% premine will be essential to help grow the Veggie fund in its initial stages. There are a lot of costs involved in this project, so that is why we have chosen to do a 20% premine. Some of the costs we forsee include (but are not limited to)

- Up to 1BTC per exchange (normally less, sometimes even more) to list Veggie on major exchanges
- Veggie bounties for translations
- Veggie rewards for spokespersons in the community who agree to collaborate and promote our cause
- A small Veggie office (both developers are currently working 80+ hour weeks on this project)
- Seed node server costs
- Website maintenance
- So much more

After you tally up all the costs involved in making a coin, it quickly becomes clear why 20% pre-mine is reasonable, particularly since we have no previous funding!  ;D

Good concept , bout time we give something back and help these animals who, are quite frankly have been put on the backburner of this crazy polluted fuked up plastic planet and are expected to just "survive" ... without them we would not be here simply put.

No ICO means anyone can get involved and do good for animals and earn themselves a currency.  Everyone wins, nobody loses,  and anyone can participate. This cannot be said for an ICO

due to the amount of blocks being found its putting a bit of a strain on the DB but our cron jobs are set to run every 15 minutes.

To anyone experiencing a warning on the wallet - this is a BIP thing inbuilt into the bitcoin-qt.

We have forked bitcoin-qt to make our coin, and this message prevailed and marks a change in the consensus rules at a certain block height for the bitcoin blockchain.

This will not affect Vegi mining in anyway and is simply a legacy marker from the old bitcoin code which we forked, that has remained. It won't cause any issues, though it does look worrisome.

In fact you can just ignore this warning entirely.

The entire network is on the same pool, all the blocks are on the same pool. The net's net is minimal, the coin is not interested in the community, probably because it's a very big Premine: 20%.

Sure there are bigger and better things to mine, there allways will be but that doesn't mean that this venture cannot succeed.As you do'nt actually have much to say thats positive i take it your mining this yourself for more coins.

very interesting for this one, Veggie in fact has a very interesting concept. by holding a charity event for animal welfare is very helpful, and there will be interest for investors to be able to help the activity. and there will be benefits for everyone who has participated in this project, because the wealth we earn from this coin is included for charity, therefore we do not need to spend any more money on this activity.

The coin is great for anyone who wants to help animals. Usually if you want to do something for a cause you have to donate REAL MONEY. This way people can make a monetary difference without spending any of their own money. People love helping causes they believe in. If they didn't, we wouldn't have Oxfam, Red Nose Day, Salvation Army, Peta, RSPCA... The list goes on. Blockchain tech is allowing people to support causes free of charge and make a real impact with their computing power. Not everyone is so selfish only to think of themselves in every situation. Just saying.

My wallet finally sync, but after finished sync all blocks to current. I got a messenge within the wallet as shown in capture below,

Then I when I try to close the wallet it hanged. So I end the wallet .exe task and when I ran it again it has to re-sync.

The Versionbit warning is a legacy warning from the Bitcoin source code (Veggie was forked from Bitcoin) and it has no relevance to the Veggie software so do not worry about this warning. We plan to remove it in our next Veggie patch

Hey all. It's very good to see all the excitement for this coin to hit exchanges, both on this thread and in the discord. As many of you know the development team on this coin is super small. Only 2 of us, and we both work full time.

We have recently found a bug in the software that causes the mining pools to not pay the correct amount of coins to the veggie fund, and only reward the miner of the block.

We did not foresee this error because the coin mines perfectly in the QT software, and both the pool mining and the QT mining access the same function, which is where we made the changes.

We figured we could fix this bug ourselves over time, in our spare time between working our full-time jobs - but we don't want to make the community wait for our coin to be released on exchanges, if this bug could be fixed quickly by someone in the community with knowledge of the bitcoin source code.

So we are offering 10,000 Veggie for anyone who can fix this bug before we can. That way we can reward a member of our community and fix up this bug more quickly. Then we can get on exchanges more quickly, and help the animals sooner.

We have found a fix for the bug which has been causing the Veggie fund to not receive it's bonus from pool mining.  ;D

There was a small logic error in the validation rules which was allowing the pools to lose this bonus along the way. The fund bonus wasn't going somewhere new, it was simply not being created in the first place due to this error.

We will be implementing the fix for this over the weekend, and the new validation rules will be enforced by the network after block 17000, at which time pool owners will have to send 20% of the block reward to the Veggie fund, or the network will reject the block. At the time of writing this post, the block height is 16889 - so a couple days until the change is enforced.


Those of you who are running mining pools will only have to change one parameter in your configuration after you pull from github and recompile - so it won't take more than two minutes to switch over.

In coin settings, you must change the following:

Charity Percent -> 20
Charity Address -> KFDc3DLyymMkZajpksc5HLtNw5GBUWmtTh

We will be providing support in the discord if you get stuck

As soon as the changeover is successful, listing on exchanges will be top priority.

Our next priority will be listing on exchanges, but before we do we have decided to change the retarget time of Veggie to make the coin more robust against attacks by users with huge hashing power. Changing the re-target time for blocks will mean that if someone with a lot of hashing power (50MH/s+) comes in and strips out a section of the chain, the difficulty can increase and decrease rapidly to compensate for this huge change in hashing power on the network, reducing the amount the strip miner can mine, and then increasing the amount normal miners can mine when he has left.

Getting below error, each time I start my wallet -

We're going to start working on bridging the gap between the wallet and pool mining. Now that mining in pools is the best way to accrue coins, we want to create a more user-friendly experience. Currently, Veggie miners need thrid party mining pool software, as with many other altcoins - sometimes challenging to install. This is OK for the initial adopters of the coin, because we're all coin nerds from bitcoin talk, who know what we're doing ;)

As the community grows into the general population, the Veggiecoin mining software must become easier to use. The general population is not as clued in on mining as we might be.

Veggie is a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin, designed to raise funds for animals. Using their new software Veggie-qt, users generate a cryptocurrency called Veggie. The user keeps 75% of the coins they generate. The remaining 25% is sent to a separate animal fund.

The Veggie community votes on which animal charities and initiatives to fund with the separate animal fund. Users don't need to donate their money to make a real difference to the welfare of animals. Simply by running the software, users will generate wealth for themselves and help make an amazing impact on animals around the world.

Cryptocurrency is a form of digital currency, that has gained massive popularity in recent years. With the rise of currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, the cryptocurrency market value now stands at over $500 billion. The Veggie team is developing groundbreaking advancements in this technology, to improve the welfare of animals globally.

On the first day of release, hundreds of miners in the Veggie community began mining. In just one month, the community has generated over 800,000 coins, and over 200,000 coins have been generated in the animal fund.

Veggie is due to be listed with a number of popular cryptocurrency exchanges in the near future. When Veggie becomes available on exchanges, the public can begin trading it. The coins generated in the separate animal fund will be allocated to a number of charities, funds and initiatives which are chosen by the community.

A big miner entered the network yesterday, driving up the difficulty with 100MH/s for roughly eight hours :)

The software update has enabled the blockchain to retarget the mining difficulty very quickly after spikes in hash power. This is exactly why we made this change. And just in time apparently.

Wallet 1.3 fixed the issue/

There's a bonus fund that mining causes to grow, but the miners keep 80% of what they mine. So it's not a 'charity coin' per se, more specifically it is a coin that when mined, raises money that is used for animals in need. The coin is still intended to be used as a general purpose coin that will be transacted with for animal-friendly goods and services. However, the mining is set up to benefit animals in need.

The mining guide provides is known to work for Nvidia cards, but is 99% likely to worth on other cards. Some weird ones are not supported, but this can be fixed by downloading CUDA 9 drivers.

CPU mining works in the wallet software. You can find the guide in the OP, but it has since been crossed out because its not as effective as GPU mining. You can still try it. To improve CPU mining, try pinning multiple instances of the wallet to each core of your CPU, you might still find blocks. We're happy to answer tech/support questions in the discord :)

Ok so you are just trying to build some attractive synergies that combine economic incentives + charity / supporting good causes. Not sure how well people will respond to that but why not give it a try. Do you actually pick certain causes that the money can be spent on? Maybe that would help to give people a very clear idea about the cases they support.

In the future, the coin will be transacted for animal-friendly goods and services.

For now, the members can vote on which charities should be funded each month with the mining bonus. When the coin hits exchanges within the next few weeks, I will make the voting page available. Over 1 million coins are already mined. We have had about 500 unique miners so far. Now is a good time to mine. The mining guide is in the OP  :)

If you know c here is where it is implemented. It favours Nvidia GPUs and is disfavourable to ASICs

Asic miners centralise a blockchain and as such they suck. HMQ is resistant because it uses 17 different algos which a gpu can do but a asic will find very awkward. That gives everyone a shake of the stick.

I see that this project is still alive now with the published whitepaper and social networks and mining running at full speed I hope that soon we have here a great project on the way, now we have to be patient and wait to see how it develops.

We are currently sitting at around 80 miners at ~500mh/s on the blockchain. This is a fantastic result for our exchange release. We are now planning to push the voting page up as soon as possible, and people can start choosing which funds, charities and initiatives to fund!

The reason block time is up is because hash rate quadrupled and drove difficulty up, then slowly decreased... Please research mining difficulty

This is tantamount to loss, no profit I see from this incident, the one path waiting for the hashrate to fall and hold it up again to sell.

Not sure how you expect the guy who runs this pool to hook up the exchanges API in less than 24 hours from launching on the exchange, so you can watch the price on the pool. He does have a full time job by the way.

I sold some Veggie, took the money and bought dog food for a homeless girl who is living on the streets with her dog around my city. So Veggie has made its first contribution to the welfare of animals now after only two months from the idea's inception! I'm proud of everyone involved who has brought it this far and we will continue to grow and do more good as time goes on! :D

I'm not sure I understand the question, but I will try to answer as best I can.

It is a 100% proof of work coin - absolutely no proof of stake. The algorithm is hmq1725 which favours Nvidia graphics cards and is ASIC resistant.

The mining reward is split 40:10, 40 for the miner and 10 for the Veggie fund, which is used to help animals. I am currently compiling a video of the first animal we helped a couple days ago. It was a homeless girl with a dog and a cat who didn't have any pet food - I gave her some dog food and will be returning with cat food tomorrow, paid for 100% by Veggiecoin.

Hi Jbmustaq, 20% of the mining reward automatically is sent to a separate animal fund which is going towards helping animals. The remaining 80% of the mining reward is kept by the miner, and he/she can spend it however they like, which includes donating it as well if they want. This is allow Veggie in the long term to become the choice currency for animal friendly goods and services.

A few days ago we set out on a mission to save our first animal. Today we are taking on a bigger challenge, and donating a large sum of food and necessities to an animal shelter in Melbourne, Australia.

Max supply is capped at 25m, currently there is ~7million in supply. A number of charities will soon have their own Veggie wallet that will accept donations in VEGI. Our long term plan is for Veggiecoin to be the choice currency for animal friendly goods and services.

The original idea was to use the funds based on what the community votes to use them on - but I believe that will have to wait until the coin is a bit more established, and we have set up relationships with a few charities etc. We're in the process of doing this for now.

In the meantime we have been using the funds to support animal rescue, both wildlife rescue and abandoned/neglected pets. We are uploading videos of our work to YouTube and are very open to communication with the community on how else we can use the funds.

As for the products we are hoping to make available for purchase with Veggie - that all depends on who will adopt the coin. Currently we are in the process of giving Veggie wallets to a number of charities and organisations. It will be up to them how far they go with it

It's not a vegan coin though - the funding is used based on the voting of the community. It could go in any direction it really depends what the community wants.

If the community votes the funding to go to vegan causes, then it organically becomes a vegan coin. Otherwise, if the community votes on it helping homeless animals or abused animals, it'll become that kind of coin.

We want to keep it democratic, one we have a good list of candidates. For now we're helping animal shelters in the meantime. It can be quite bureaucratic to set up these relationships and we're finding that it's taking time to establish them. So for now we are sticking to shelters who need urgent funding, food, help etc.

Veggie folks I've just sold some mined Veggie and turned it into Doge coins. I've sent you the DOGE so you can sell it for Ozzie dollars. Id send the BTC I made but the costs are too high and I know DOGE is fast and cheap.
Its only about $25 USD's worth but I'm hoping it can buy some cat food.. or maybe some seed for that wonderful Guinea pig. That would be cool.
Now I see on SouthXchange people are buying the coin on the ASK which is great but its better to put in orders on the BID and get coins from miners like me who want to sell. I know you Veggie folks sell coins on the ASK to fund your projects but people need to buy on the BID too which will help raise the price. Investor people should definitely put orders on the BID too. The BID and OFFER needs to be close together to get the market working well, so maybe people who want to buy should bring the BID orders up closer to the ASK and then buy some at the ASK too. Maybe half and half.
I've been selling on the ASK, so here is some of that money for your causes. :)

If we get a proper market going the coin will Moon and then the coins will be worth a lot and will buy lots of help for those animals, so its important to get the BID and ASK close and get the coin trading good volume. :)

This coin is animal money and has a real use, so it can be really important if it can get real traction.

I am a little curious about the decision of taking 25% of mining rewards for the fund. In my opinion, that amount is too high as it will require constant liquidity and buy support to be able to cash that amount in a monthly basis. So how is the coin incentivising traders to provide this buy support? I think partnerships would help for this. Also the whole idea behind the project can really attract mainstream people in social media and that could be done through influencers that not only introduce them to crypto, but also to VEGI :), but anyways the built in miner in the wallet looks pretty good! Is this algo power hungry? I've never mined this algo.

I was also wondering if the project would want to reach the spanish community. I can provide a spanish translation if needed. Just let me know.

Thanks for the questions. The 10 out of 50 coins going to the animal fund in each block are not liquidated as soon as they hit the fund, so there is no issue with liquidation as we will never dump all the coins into tje market to crash the price

As far as your question on the "25%" mining reward for the fund. The actual amount is "20%" of the mining reward. On closer inspection 40 - 10 is 20% of the mining reward, but if only the 40 is considered, the 10 is a 25% "MINING BONUS". So in reality 20% of the mining reward is given to the find. At this point in time we would love to encourage more trading on SouthXchange as this directly helps animals in need. If you can find the heart to hodl or trade the coin on the exchange, the animals benefit greatly

I really idea behind this project! I have a question though..

Why did you choose to adjust difficulty every 72 blocks instead of every block?

It's a good question. Originally we set the difficulty retarget to occur after 2 weeks roughly 1000 blocks, rather than 12 hours (72 blocks) There's pros and cons to any retarget time. Let's look at some examples of retarget times and their respective issues.

🥕2 week retarget time

Lets consider a network in its infancy. In fact, most vulnerabilities to attack with block difficulty only happen when the network hash rate is low, so when the network is new for example. If a malicious miner came in with a lot of hashing power, they could greatly increase the mining difficulty, making mining less attractive to normal miners. Then the other miners start to leave, as mining becomes less profitable. Then the attacker leaves.

What is left is an insanely high mining difficulty and nobody mining. So the 1000 blocks it would take to retarget the difficulty again are never mined and the network dies.

The devs saw an example of this in an altcoin who's devs we are close to. They had to spend a lot of money to hire GPUs just to mine enough blocks to retarget again. OUCH

🌽Retarget every block, 10 Minutes

You might have guessed the same problem can occur here. A powerful miner can attack the network with high hashing power for a short amount of time rendering the next block very high difficulty, as the malicious miner sustains the high block time, the smaller miners are not profiting and leave the network. A malicious miner can automate leaving and joining the network to optimise his reward

EDIT: This might actually be the best way, because to sustain a high difficulty, the malicious miner MUST mine consistently - as soon as he leaves, the block difficulty decreases

🥑12 hour retarget
A powerful miner would have to be committed to mining the Veggie network for 12 hours to drive up the mining difficulty, only then would he be inconveniencing the other miners. Then he only has a 12 hour window to mine profitably before the network rescales the difficulty. We think its sort of a sweet spot. A powerful miner would have to be mining most of the time to manipulate the network for their benefit, and not many of them do that

I'm aware that a lot of you are waiting for the new mining wallet which will be an all-inclusive application that supports pool mining.

Ive been with this since day 1 and i can say the devs and their friends are very nice people with real names and real faces, we do'nt see many devs posting video's of themselves in work or play.
Personally i think this has been the only coin ive ever mined that i think has a good real actual real world use and i'm sure as the years progress the animals will thank us and the miners and investors will continue to wacth their coins value grow over time.

Will this aid be used only for non-profit businesses that rescue and protect animals? If an ordinary person needs help with a treatment for a particular animal, can ask the project for help?

Can anyone help me with my wallet. I have 1000 veggie in 2 wallets I cant access one wallet says i sent 521 to my exchange but it has no confirmations and i hit abandon transaction and still nothing in my wallet or exchange but shows on the wallet. the other wallet just synced up but has no coins at allbeen syncing for days until now and I dont see any coins at all. Is there a block chain issue or what because im about to be completely out.

Make sure you have the most up to date wallet software. Then delete your 'blocks' and 'chainstate' data. Let me know on discord if that doesn't work

This calcolator is very wrong.
For 7x1070 miner gives 31 Mh/s
And the calculator says 93 coin per hour..
But the pool have 310 Mh hashrate and got only 25 blocks for 24 hours :)
This means 31 Mh/s you can get only 100 coins for 24 hour. But acoording to the f.cking calculotor you get 2238 coins :) peh.

The difficulty changes drastically a lot so that might be the reason why

The concept of your project does sound good, and may be perfect for what you need. But before you work with them, you should be able to get a review of them. It has had positive feedback or none at all because many risk that may be your responsibility

We are currently forking Bitpay's Copay software to make a mobile wallet. Dash have done this successfully and their software looks great. We are hoping to do something similar with Veggiecoin so that people can use a mobile wallet for transactions in the near future 🥔🍅🥑

The mobile wallet will be the next big step for Veggiecoin

I think there's need to be more progress than just making a mobile wallet for the project to gain some attention. Maybe a bounty campaign would be nice to have so people get exposed to the coin. Is there already any donation to shelters that has been done with vegi or something? Progress is what most projects lack and what could really make vegi stand out.

We are already donating regularly to charities. What this coin could really benefit from is more utility (as when people transact with the coin, this also means that money goes to the animal fund and helps animals in need). For it to have utility it really needs a mobile wallet so that it is more accessible
