Will Ethereum be able to do it?

not a chance.
even if we ignore all the problems that Ethereum has such as scaling and the fact that all transactions are stuck and cost of sending a transaction is increasing by the minute, we are still left with the biggest flaw that will prevent the rise to anywhere near bitcoin.

and that flaw is its huge supply plus the fact that it has no cap. until eternity there will be new ETH issued and fill the market to increase the supply to no end. it is a simply supply and demand relationship.

I don't think there is any currently but the one that will be able to oust bitcoin from the throne would have to come with a different approach  and technology maybe so that people would want to try them out than all the other altcoin variants of bitcoin and bitcoin itself.

Litecoin and Ethereum are possible. If there are any other coins that pass Bitcoin, it may be possible that it hasn't been created yet.

For now bitcoin will lead us to a good future and who knows altcoins may surpass bitcoin but it takes time or it will never happen. Bitcoin is powerful and even ETH can't beat BTC because bitcoin technology is way better than ETH. The demand for bitcoin are continue to increase and for sure in the coming years bitcoin will still remain on top.

BITCOIN Classic doesn't give a shit about the problems, these ppl are in denial, they're all rich, and they follow "if it work, then don't fix it model', which means that BTC is now just a bank for rich ppl, and will never be a micro-payment system.

Team BITCOIN-CORE doesn't give a shit about privacy, they know that when google or FANG buys them out the entire reason is to SPY on ppl, thus they work hard to keep BITCOIN open for easy forensic spying.

Monero is cool, but its ECDSA is weak by design, if I wasn't bored of this shit I would fix MONERO problems and deliver a real privacy box that had equihash algo, ...

Problem right now is that all the first gen crypto DEV-Man-Kids are fat dumb and lazy, somewhere in south-africa, or myanmar, is a child with a computer, who is willing to work, and he'll resolve the problem ( privacy and scaling ) and shoot crypto to the moon, .... until then we'll just along with btc the little train that couldn't go very fast

maybe some new coin in the future which is laying low but it certainly wouldn't be ethereum or most of the coins that are currently on top of the market cap list because they are all with big supplies which is why they are on top.

Yeah no chance for ethereum bro. As of now I don't see any coins or tokens that will catch up on Bitcoin price. Maybe in 5 or 10 years some will catch or Bitcoin will continue to rise and no one can catch up.  ;D

Sure, why not? Anything can happen it's not like it's predetermined or anything. But I think it's possible.

Ethereum and LTC will certainly be my 2 candidates for the spot , even tho i don't think that any other altcoin has enough momentum to compete with bitcoin because it has simply gone crazy and has made the race much more difficult for other altcoins .

Furthermore even if an altcoin tends to catch up with bitcoin's value it'll be much more difficult because the majority of the new altcoins ( and even the old one like Eth ) have so many drawbacks that makes the job harder for them , such as an endless supply because following the low of demand and supply and with knowing that bitcoin has only 21M coins , there'll be one day where the demand will keep increasing while the supply is nearly over . For other coins there'll always be supply to match demand which will make scaling very hard and there won't be any competition between people to obtain that coin .

I am guessing this is only temporary and trading will go back to normal in a few days after all these positive news coming from the futures. This is usual, whenever there is news, good or bad, it affects bitcoin prices greatly. It's funny because this only means that bitcoin prices are quite fragile. Even a small issue makes it drop significantly and a small step would jump the price by double in just a few days. Quite scary in fact.

Altcoins were and mostly testnets for Bitcoin in terms of the technological perspective! And from financial perspective they exist to make Bitcoin holders more Bitcoin! Simple is that.

We can't say Etherium can beat Bitcoin as of now. There are no other cryptocurrency can beat how far the Bitcoin reached. Maybe if there is another one, we expect it to launch by next year but needs time to catch up what Bitcoin did already in our community.

I think bitcoin-z fits your bill, its got solid support on github, and native to this forum, and it can only go up, its bTC based with equihash mining, its everything a mother could want and no pre-mine, and no marketing cuz its a SW geek creation.

Hey, i can hardly imagine that one of the present currencies could replace or catch up the bitcoin. Bitcoin is like a father of all crypto coins with its problem, yes.But it have to be happen something really bad, that bitcoin loses positions of first crypto currency in the world.

Bitcoin has many advantages in the market + many teams are working to improve it. Altcoins will not be able to offer the market anything more than bitcoin.

No, The supply of Ethereum is very large to be able to reach the price that Bitcoin can reach, it's not even close. But those who say that there is no altcoin that can compete with Bitcoin in future is totally wrong, there are lots of altcoin that has the potential to grow like Bitcoin in the future, but the thing is Bitcoin being the first cryptocurrency that had been introduce is making it more popular than other cryptocurrencies and also one of the reason why it remains on top and that gives those altcoins a hard time to catch up. I think Litecoin, Dash, and Monero have the higher chance to compete with Bitcoin in the future (if the scaling issue is not yet solve). Don't hate me, I may be right or wrong.

I think the next coin will be the china's coin , which they are developing right now. China's economic status are currently stable and continue to rise up what more if they are creating and developing a coin which i think will run fast enough as bitcoin right now. But for now , bitcoin is the highest value coin on digital world.

Ethereum won't catch up to bitcoins price, perhaps its market cap but definitely not its price. It's really hard to think of any coins that can reach bitcoins price, I guess bitcoin cash could do one day but even that is a stretch, bitcoin is more than 10x more expensive than the next coin. If I had to put my money on it I would bet that no other coin ever passes $10k.

Never! Stop dreaming mate!! Ethereum is a good project but catching up with bitcoin's price in the future is a whole lot to ask for. Sure, we can all say we do not know what happens in the future, but there are somethings that can never be possible and this is one of them. Bitcoin is more than established to get pushed out and even if other coins stand the chance of doing it better, bitcoin will always have that first movers advantage in looking at ways of changing some protocols to always make things better in the long run.

Personally, I feel bitcoin only has attained such price movements over the years because it was the first crypto currency but I don't really see any use of bitcoin, unlike so many other alts that actually do solve real world problems like Ethereum and the likes of it.

However, I feel bitcoin, even with how shitty it is as regards it's uses, will still be king in price movements.... well, at least for now.

I can't really imagine what will be the first one to beat bitcoin in the future because for me i think it is not possible or no other coin can beat bitcoin. But i can agree that in the future, something can be as close to bitcoin's price but never will be able to match or surpass it. Bitcoin is in the different league so it would be very difficult for any other coins to catch up with bitcoin in the future, at the moment no coin is not even near to the bitcoin so it's looks like impractical to expect any other coin to reach out the bitcoin.

In as much as I see bitcoin hitting ATH in the millions dollar arena, you should note that anything can happen in the crypto space in as little as a blink of an eye... A close call one time was Ethereum

I seriously do not think that there is any altcoin that can catch up with the price of bitcoin. But yes, there are various coins out there which may bring you are better ROI. I think you should be concentration on this part ;)

eth,ltc,ripple,xrb this 4 coins that i monitor since i start in crypto,it's has grow day by day like bitcoin and i think their only non exchanger like coins to fiat but if that happen in the future i'm sure the price will be high like we don't imagine here in crypto,i think also it give so much conveniece to us like bitcoin now and think if we have more coins the conveniece in that is more because we have a lot of coins,Moreover i think we need to stock or save some of our coins now so we don't regret if this four coins will go so high in the future,i will do that even risky

No, I dont think that anycoin can catch up Bitcoin about the price. However about the marketcap, I think they can. Some of coins is better Bitcoin in payment such as IOTA, Litecoin, Ripple, Monero,... can pass it

I honestly believe that bitcoin is doomed to fail, unless there's a huge improvement in its associated speed and transaction fees. My guess is that Litecoin or another privacy-based coin like Monero, or a speed-based coin like Dash will take over as the primary crypto. My bet is on Litecoin, since it is already becoming a popular bitcoin alternative.

I don't think that this is something feasible. Bitcoin keeps being the leader and its success is only enlarged as altcoins grow. Bitcoin acts as the entry to all crypto markets and hence as the economy grows so will bitcoin's dominance.

I dont see any coin catching up with bitcoin. except bitcoin is totally dump which i think is not possible. millions of people make transaction with bitcoin daily. many merchant now favour bitcoin as the only crypto for payment. bitcoin is far above any coin. ETH is great coin as well but it has less usage compare to bitcoin although other features such as smart contract creation has favoured the coin to be used in creating token which most ICO now use today but bitcoin still remain most traded coin.

No other coin will catch up with the price of Bitcoin just look at the marketcap, ethereum will go up in price but it's not gonna match up with Bitcoin after all Bitcoin is the king of cryptocurrency.

In the future ,It's hard to say that there are  some coins can catch up the price of bitcoin. because the price of him  in progress continues  and there is a big difference  in amount between the value of  bitcoin and the other currencies.
Besides, in recent time there is a leap of market cap in Ethereum. so maybe in the future there will be a small variation between bitcoin and Ethereum.
