Title: Why are people buying Ripple?
Post by: ulhaq on December 28, 2017, 04:16:39 PM
  • it is explicitly (or at least formerly) not considered a currency
  • it is centralized (the company can freeze accounts if it wants, create more coins, or be sued)
  • it's major use case is for inter-bank transfers. So if Bank A and Bank B was to exchange currency x for y, they will use XRP in-between. But this gives no value to the currency itself, it is just used as an intermediary. Is it conceivable that Ripple the company will not have enough XRP for these internal bank transfers and they are going to have to buy them back from the public??

So it seems that XRP has no value outside its use by the company Ripple. Is anyone actually using it for commerce or any other reason? It is not considered a store of value like bitcoin (in any case one would want something decentralized.

Your third point is probably the reason. People hear "banks use it" and they heavily invest in it, because banks are trusted these days. On the other hand: transaction times are pretty fast and fees are usually pretty low, so it is perfectly usable.

Is this a joke right ? Or a big promo ? one of these 2 anyway. Ripple are the bankings systems and we all hate banks here so only the bank lovers will buy ripple and hold ripple. It's okay to speculate the price and other things but I wouldn't keep rippple anyway.

Perfectly usable for what? Is anyone using it for said purpose?

Im afraid nobody is using any altcoin for anything that isn't pumping and then dumping it for more bitcoin.

Ripple is a total shitcoin, it's pointless if you care about anything that isn't moving money fast from A to B without the underlying details. Any shitcoin can do this. Dogecoin can do this, any of the bitcoin forks can do this, this is not the point and this is not why bitcoin is valuable (only a part, but not everything).

So the answer is obvious: speculation. Ripple is pumped by X Y or Z big company = speculation starts and we have these peaks on the price, that is all.

Like all other crypto. You buy because the price go up. At the moment use do not matter that much. Speculation for the future only.

For transferring cryptos. I know a lot of people in my vicinity preferring Ripple for transferring between exchanges because of the speed and low fees.

I think also point 3 is the main reason.
My first Coin was Ripple, for that reason. Banks use it, banks do not want to lose money.
When I dived deeper into crypto I sold the coin, unfortunately, if you look at the course, too soon ...
But I can live with it. In my crypto career Ripple will never hit my portfolio again

Edit: But i have to say i use Ripple to transfer my funds from one exchange to another bcs honstly its fucking fast and cheap

The very reason the moment I was gonna decide to buy more Ripple coins is that it's very cheap and it is one of the top 100 Altcoins so I know Ripple will be going somewhere so I grabbed the best opportunity while it's cheaper than today.

Indeed, that's the main reason behind because time is ticking and and the moment you waste time you'll gotta waste money and coins also.
Now, knowing that Ripple is one of the future coin and some banks are going to support it is just a lucky decision.
My experience is I read their white paper and the company background after I bought bulk coins in the trade.

there is a possibility the price of xrp, or ripple will be higher in the future. for now the price is still below $ 2, but when the price is $ 2, it will be a very good advantage for the person who held it.

theres a lot of people in crypto world thinking that ripple isa sleeping giant and thats why more investors and whale are holding  XRP since then till no wand waiting for the burstfire of the price in the market. well, im holding some of it too.

Ripple is no doubt a great investment for the long term run, it has a great future because of its good supply and the features of Ripple are somehow attractive for the investors to make their large investment for the future because it is still undervalued and affordable. Ripple is also highlighted on the great exchanges and its being accepted by the banks.

Ripple has a very strong support of community despite of its drawbacks. Now it could be considered as a "stable" growing coin.

I think the low fees and fast transaction speed are the main reasons people are investing in it. It can handle 1500+ transactions in one second compared to 56 of LTC and 16 of BTC.

People who have invested into ripple might have gained back the profit. Because, the growth is happening gradually but in a sustained manner. Even when entire things get into the decline, ripple seems to be on the growing edge. This has made large user network to grow with trust.

I think the reason is pretty obvious. The banks. No matter what we say about banks, but we still need them currently. Most people (especially non crypto people) still trust them more than cryptos. And banks around the globe are seriously considering blockchains as the next step. Out of all the available blockchains, Ripple suits them best. As it is a blockchain, but still centralized enough to maintain control. There is a company with which banks can interact with, rather than no centralized authority for coins like Bitcoin. Even in India, many major banks are testing the Ripple blockchain.

Here we should note that importance is given to ripple blockchain and not the Ripple coin. But obviously the coin benefits from all this. I see a huge demand of Ripple in the coming years as many people who don't invest in cryptos (because of lack of trust in fully decentralized coins), might see Ripple as a better option to enjoy the benefits of both the crypto and non-crypto worlds. I guess all these things lead to the purchase of Ripple.

I think the bank prefer that people buy Ripple than Bitcoin, as they are controlling Ripple. People are buying Ripple just for speculation.

Speculation I guess, they've paired with some big names though (Amex for example) which will help push the price up. The idea is also good and that'll play a fair part in pushing the price up

It's useful for banks. Banks already have major influence that they can use to sway public opinion and desire. Plus, with the price going up the way it is, people see it as a profitable opportunity. I don't see it being much more than that personally.

The main reason is because its cheap. Many people who are new in to crypcurrencies thinks maybe it raises like bitcoin. But i it never will when you watch the max supply. So maybe they can be worth some dollars, but no more.

Ripple has big support and investments, it will be implemented by banks, as a result people understand that XRP has true value.
Last weeks Ripple is the one of the stable of TOP coins, while BTC with others go down, Ripple continue to grow, so people buy Ripple to protect their investments.
I also bought XRP and TRX and every day gain good profit.

You just nailed it I have recently converted my funds from litecoin and bitcoin to ripple as ripple looks more stable and can be used by banks as it has been designed for the bankers and it has been on top ten list of crypto currency from a very long time and this is the right time to go for ripple as it's value is increasing with leaps and bounces.

There is one group that wants decentralization and a worldwide monetary system, which will not happen without one world govermnent. This group buys into the idea of bitcoin. As long as the banks and governments allow these cryptos, they have appeased this small group and the group keep isnt hurting anything.

There is another group that see cryptocurrency as a way to take advantage of the first groups efforts, and this group does so to make money. They dont care about decentralization. They see XRP and Ripple as a stable long term system to increase their investment. They believe that the banks have a vested interest in making Ripple work well. For a bank, using Ripple reduces transaction time, which makes that money available for other uses, including bearing interest. The reduced transaction costs save a lot of money for the bank. XRP allows governments to maintain their sovereign currency and gives the bank a medium for conversion. So governments and banks will opt for the Ripple or something similar. This, coupled with the belief that XRP will continue to increase in value makes it the coin of choice for this group.

Ripple XRP is listed high on Coinmarketcap for a long time. It's centralised, we all know that have pros and cons but it definitely proved to have a good team and constantly improving the project. XRP is in Top 10 CM for a long time, personally, I think this is the main reason people investing in it, its stable and the price is increasing, the team doing a great job and it reflects 3rd place on CMC. Ripple is very recognisable as a kind of crypto "brand"

Talking about the alternate coin that surpasses Bitcoin Cash's in market cap and having a cheap price at 1.xx plus can somehow lure some investors to invest in. So there is no doubt why Ripple is having its market cap bigger and bigger each they and it is even closing in on ETH.

There are reasons not to like Ripple, but realize that many people have put a lot more value into other coins that, while more crypto-centric, are not worth the value people have put into them. I'm not advocating for Ripple, but some of the reason it could beat other alts is that it is fast and can be used for payment. It is backed by a real company with a lot of real clients. So, that reduces some of the fear of the Ripple team running away or simply failing. Again, while sure, they are not purists, they are still accomplishing a large part of the core mission of crypto - to replace fiat as a means of exchange.

Again, not saying I love Ripple, just that I do see why people might buy it, other than greed or to flip it.

Is this a joke right ? Or a big promo ? one of these 2 anyway. Ripple are the bankings systems and we all hate banks here so only the bank lovers will buy ripple and hold ripple. It's okay to speculate the price and other things but I wouldn't keep rippple anyway.

The criticism leveled against Ripple Coin / Ripple inc. since it's inception many years ago continues to be ignored because the vast overwhelming majority in crypto have no use what so ever for any form of ideology.

They all came here to make money (real money) off anything paying out.
And when Ripple deliberately dumps more coins out to jump the CoinmarketCap standings it makes the scammy assholes peckers hard.

If give a baby aids rape a grandma coin came out and it was paying out moon ROI'z it would be popular.
People here are scammy pieces of shit.. hell bent on driving crypto into the dart as hard and as fast as they can.
They know it but don't care.
And will simply milk it for anything they can until the last second when it collapse.

I watched the SCRYPT cloning craze take hold of the scene years ago and people lined up to defend it all.
Back then Coindesk ran a news story saying "The more coins the better"

Swap SCRYPT with ICO and it's the same crap all over again.
Except the idiot noobs here now.. have no idea that we had a massive recession where coin prices simply kept dropping.
They are piling in here fast and hard thinking it's all up.

Nope.  :D

Wow, a lot of really interesting POVs, a lot of good observations.  As a noob I'm amazed at how so many cryptos boomed in December, think it was because of exposure to the wider world by bitcoin exploding in value. Why Ripple has exploded even more I think is the bandwagon effect as it skyrockets along with the cheap price, relatively speaking.

Even if it isn't, 500 ripple coins seem like a lot more than part of one bitcoin and with it going up 65% today, blowing by Ethereum and firmly establishing itself into 2nd place who knows how high this one's going to go before it pops.

What sucks about Ripple from my POV is that from what I've been able to read it's a totally centralized system, controlled by a bank or banks and they can do whatever they want with it, all of which is anathema to the things I love about crypto.

oh my god, the ripple price is very high right now, and the reason you mentioned it may be because the ripple can be very high right now, I'm so regret it to not buy ripple when at a low price

Yes the price boost to the moon this day the reason why ripple hit that price is because of demand in thw market and the news about ripple potential are spread in the whole crypto world they surpass ethereum and became the no. 2 altcoin in coinmarketcap.
When you regret to buy ripple at the low price then I suggest to wait until the price dump and buy more ripple. After 2 years this ripple hit the all time high price and Im sure theres a big whale who put their fund to ripple.

I think the coins has been controlled by some very big whales, and they can pump the price to be very high and sell their coins step by step, so I think the potential of the ripple is limited, it is better to buy some other potential coins.

people are buying ripple! not because they hate or love the banks, people are just getting into the hype of the alt, ripple is all over the social media and trading market and keep rising they bought ripple to hold it for a while and trying to gain some profit on it. this is not about what you love and what you want, this is all about gaining money!

I completely agree with you here. I feel that Ripple has a lot of potential and I knew that it would grow over time, but I never expected that it would skyrocket in this manner which is a clear sign of a pump and dump in my opinion. I think ripple will get dumped like crazy once 2018 arrives and I think that this is the time to cash in on the profits before it is too late since it is bound for a correction. I think that it will stabilize in the 1.5$ range in January 2018.

Because people doesnt care what will happen in the future?we all need to get more BTC thats why i am joining the hype.

History is littered with pyramid / ponzi schemes.
The perversion of the world of Altcoin is a perfect example.
Few if any of these people are aware of past scams.
MLM's and various other schemes were huge far before this crap came along.
Whats sad and stupid is the idiots here don't know and don't care even when they are told their ponzi pushers.
They simply count their money and say hey, i got cash so it can't be bad.
WRONG.
Idiots in crypto are oblivious to the fact that Bitcoin was created precisely to avoid scammy garbage just like Ripple.
And buying XRP coins for BTC profit is the same as SUPPORT.

"Crypto" is dead.
It's a joke.
It's a shell of what it once was no matter how many more people show up pushing BTC higher in FIAT price.
The whole who cares buy anything to get more profits attitude killed it dead.
There is no going back once the greedy bottle was opened.

Crypto proved nothing more than the undesirables will flock in taking it over.
People started this over ideology and that was shot and pissed on to further support for shit coins.. and FIAT.

The question being answered on this topic here shouldn't be why is the price high..
The question i am wondering is why the fuck would you all care ?
If it's bad then it should die.. but it doesn't does it ?
You all line up to bad mouth it.. then tell us all how much money you made off it.

Your third point is probably the reason. People hear "banks use it" and they heavily invest in it, because banks are trusted these days. On the other hand: transaction times are pretty fast and fees are usually pretty low, so it is perfectly usable.

Exactly. Cryptoland has very much become a gambling house like wall street, people speculate based on hypes and rumors and moods and not on the underlying real value of the asset.

I've bought and sold a lot of ripple over the past few days, ultimately increasing my bitcoin holding in the process and increasing potential profits. Let's face it, a lot of people are only investing in crypto to make money (fiat) otherwise why else do you see headlines such as "I'm now a millionaire" etc.
The growth in ripple has helped me increase my holdings in bitcoin, and with the lowered price of bitcoin right now, any increase in the price of bitcoin means I'm turning a bigger profit than if I had just done nothing and sat on my original bitcoin holding.
To chastise people for doing this isn't really fair as we all ultimately use fiat currency every day for our daily routines and to chastise people for seeing an opportunity to make a little fist through buying and selling a crypto is wrong.
Whilst a lot of people don't understand the reasonings behind crypto, there's a lot of people who do understand labour making profits through speculative investments, of which this is a form of.

So there I've said it :) I'm riding the ripple wave at the moment in order to maximise my own personal bitcoin holdings :)

the reason is so simpler than you think: because it is rising.

that is how things work 99% of the time with altcoins. when people see a rise and in some cases when the pump group leader tells the sheep to buy, they start buying that coin and the price goes even higher.

if you look at the charts it sometime have stages of the rise, first they pump it then the early "watchers" come in and finally the newbies rush in guns blazing wanting to become rich with that coin that is already pumped...

People see a huge increase in capitalization, the appreciation of the currency itself, read about the prospects, favorable contracts and looking at the future buy a coin. This is not a stupid pump, but a reasonable growth. You can treat the product badly because the founders hold all the trump cards. But the product itself will not become worse from this.

I think the ripple is an excellent speculative investment. The more banks start using ripple, the more people buy it and its price grows. One of the recent news on the ripple resource is- "The Japan Bank Consortium - a coalition of 61 banks in Japan, organized by SBI Ripple Asia, two of South Korea's largest banks with a total market capitalization of more than $ 30 billion." Such news only confirm the prospect of investing in ripple to make money on it.

I Agree people buying because of hype and they just flowing with the wave  with the current volatility in crypto market where in most of the coins are dropping down including BTC and ETH  here in XRP it has its own bull run which really give you good profit in you buy when it was just starting to fly but be careful  we don't know what whales are planning here

People only read "Banks are using Ripple", after that they buy the Coin without any further research.

I believe RIPPLE will be used by a lot of banks in the future and it will be the Banker's choice, along with STELLAR LUMENS. I believe now it has undergone a big pump and may re trace a little bit but it's on an upward trend. I wouldn't be surprised if the bankstas knock Bitcoin down to 2nd place and get XRP to be the top most coin on CMC. let's see what will happen in 2018, time will tell. yes the only thing ripple can do is doing fast transaction. so basicaly ripple has no value beside transaction. better invest in XLM they even have a charity to make world better. but i would choose IOTA even thought iota is not base on blockchain but they have briliant idea for transaction security.

It's amazing how some people think it's acceptable that the Ripple comapany still holds 61% of all XRP.
Also the founders still have at least 10% on top of that.

Now there's lots of people shilling this crap, just so they can get a few crumbs, helping this company become very rich.

Majority of people buying Ripple are doing so for speculative motives. Not necessarily that they love Ripple, but they buy it with hope that more demands will drive the price upwards further thereby giving the a reasonable return on investment. I buy XRP because I want good ROI in the future.

People are attracted to coins having quick growth.
They believe that this "price rocketing" can be continued in the future. None knows exactly what is going to happen.
Ripple is a centralized coin and it is created by bankers. You can't mine it, all the initial coins belong to the creator of the coin.
So if the owner/creator is pumping up the price and wants to get the money and leave you are doomed.
There are many other decentralized coins that worth having them.

People buying Ripple either:

A. Have no real understanding about the crypto revolution

B. Think they can 'time' the banking collapse and believe they can get out in time with their profits

I played the B. game for awhile but got out after the recent run-up, ain't holding that deep into 2018.... no WAY!!!!

There are so many buyers in the ripple coin because the price rises but it still depends on people when they choose it, but I think it's rising because the price is rising too.

The reason behind ripple market is that some major banks have started to use ripple in their banking system and banks wilk prefer to accept centralized currency ever if their potential ability in coin. Ripple helps a lot to make inter-banking super fast, not only bankers but outsiders would also be able to take benifits from trading ripple coin. Ripple is currently leading altcoins in market cap

*Disclaimer*  I own Ripple and bought a lot a month ago.  Still have it.

I have noticed in the partnerships with banks they are using Ripple as their test chain.  The long term development is not to solely use Ripple but use it as a middle-man while the banks develop their own block chain.

So the long term use is iffy, once banks get hip to their own block chains.

However,  some of the smaller ones could just decide to use Ripple indefinitely because of the low-fees/transaction times instead of building out their own.  Don't expect JP Morgan or Wells Fargo to use Ripple for anything.  They will build their own.

I was really surprised at how fast the transfer times were.  (A lot faster than bitcoin or even litecoin)

I wonder what coinbase thinks about it.

Will they put it on their exchange because they see it as a long term diversification or will they go with something like Dash or Monero which has more long term use?

Anyway,  my 2 thoughts.

Like all other crypto. You buy because the price go up. At the moment use do not matter that much. Speculation for the future only.

A digital currency's market price plays a big factor that people are investing on that particular digital currency. In Ripple's case, it has a very cheap price where you can buy it in much bigger volume and since it is also evident that its market cap is big which is third, people continue buying on it until its market cap surpasses ETH's.

Even a small pump of digital currency's price can mean a big profit.

It is just all about FOMOing, fear of missing out. They thought that the expectation of the early buyers and those manipulators that the price will continue to go up but they didn't know that the market is just being pumped by the manipulators and also the FOMO people and if you are really into great technology and investment then do more research because ripple is not the only one.

In fact, Ripple is more viewed as an Internet technology that allows you to make financial transactions. Initially, the company Ripple Labs did not plan to create its own crypto currency, but was aimed at the banking sector - to provide a unique form of payment for banks. The new technology allows for internal settlements, international settlements between banks in a faster form (reducing transaction time), safer and most importantly with a minimum transaction value.

Exactly my point. I have been telling this to my friends countless times but they just won't listen. Like how they did not listen that bitcoin will be big when i told them earlier this year. They clearly are like everyone supporting ripple. They only see dollar signs and do not try to go deeper and understand what is going on with the project they are investing in. Oh well, that's their choice. It's not our fault that they did not listen.

It is pshilogical thing and it is catching up with those who believe they will become millionaire.
The second thing is that the banks started this artificial pump and newbies joined in making a few bucks but when it will drop it will drop hard on them and it will hurt.

You have point but it doesn't mean that XRP will not give you profit all.

The most common reason why many are investing for such project is the return of their investment but it doesn't that they will surely get a return. So the wiser investor will likely to stay out in this kind of project.

It's a very interesting question. Ripple is a very good coin. Third point of the info probably the main reason why people are buying and using it. Most of the people want to do the same work what the banking systems are doing and they know that bank will never do like this work which will bring loss and for this reason people knows that this coin will not be the thing that will bring loss to them. so that they can invest there without any doubt. Those people who like to invest for a long term are like it very much because it runs with long-term investment system. These are the main reason to buying it.

I looked at it from an investment standpoint, it made sense from the business perspective. I was too busy to buy it when it was at .25 a few weeks back. I bought Ripple on the 29th at $1.62 and bought 545 coins. On the same day, I bought 2,625 Stellar XLM at .32 each. So here we are a few days later and from a purely investment standpoint, I'm up $2,200 in profit and mostly from Stellar.
From a market cap perspective, in a matter of mere days Ripple is basically at half the market cap of Bitcoin which in insane. I am going to put another $2K into Ripple here within a week and hopefully before it hits Coinbase, it's going to go thru the roof at that point. If a company like Amazon starts to use it, there's no limit as to where it will go.

If we don't know a thing that doesn't mean it's useless, there is always a reason why Ripple's price keep on increasing. Banks are really supporting this coin and with that it really affects the price of it and many people are getting along the ride of this hype also and that's is normal with crypto world.

It is just simple. Why would people tend to buy Ripple if it does not have mucj worth? So the reason that I can see why people are getting them self into buying Ripple is because they find it beneficial to have such altcoin either for long term holding or short term holding or it is just a great opportunity having such that have a great purpose or usage in the near future.

At present, the Ripple's exchange rate is increasing rapidly, with the current Ripple rate of $ 3.17, up more than 30% from yesterday, predicting that the coin will rise sharply in the near future. Especially this coin is behind having his big Google back against so the safety when investing in this coin is so high, so people invest a lot in it. 2018 is expected to be a boom year for Altcoin because of the current Altcoin coin such as Ethereum, Ripple, Dash, Stellar...

I'm amazed how Ripple could potentially sell one billion XRP at $3 to earn $3B while generating them had zero cost for them and then tell the people they're reducing the costs of transactions, even if they spend $1B to make 1B XRP they could have earned back that $1B by charging transaction fees.
You could never know how much they are really spending to maintain the network, no body knows, if they are spending $1 per transaction, you would never know, you have no access to the data.

Many of the true "crypto-enthusiasts" are ideologically opposed to holding Ripple due to its centralized nature. However, many of those who buy Ripple are investors that are only interested in its potential rise in price. For them it doesn't matter how you classify Ripple, its utility, or its stance in regards to traditional crypto values. If they think that the hype will bring the price up, then they can make a profit off of it.

Also, Ripple is very well a currency. It can be: a) exchanged for something of value, b) exchanged for other currencies, and c) is limited in its emission (at least so far). If the currency is USED as an intermediary - then it is used for something, aka useful, aka it has value.

Market cap is 2nd after btc, and price low. not many analyze so strong, and buy it
Price is low? Are you sure about it? If you just have seen on how Ripple grow for just a short amount of time then you'll see on how it's quick. The price seems to be lower before because it has 34 billions for it supply and it's market cap is not questionable as it's being supported by the banks. People wants to be with the banks and don't blame the banks if they are starting to take profits.

  • it's major use case is for inter-bank transfers. So if Bank A and Bank B was to exchange currency x for y, they will use XRP in-between. Is it conceivable that Ripple the company will not have enough XRP for these internal bank transfers and they are going to have to buy them back from the public??

So it seems that XRP has no value outside its use by the company Ripple. Is anyone actually using it for commerce or any other reason? It is not considered a store of value like bitcoin (in any case one would want something decentralized.

i do have a similar question about ripple to understand more about the hype that its having right now. What will ripple achieve for the 'normal' consumers? I have read that ripple network is between banks for cross-border payments with end-to-end tracking. But will ripple ever be like bitcoin or other altcoins where end users can do transactions with each other or buy goods with ripple without an intermediary or are we simply investing in a project of a company just like shares/stocks but then in ripple?

Ripple have the a big market cap which is playing the major role to increase the price of ripple. According to market cap if ripple price will reach up to the $15 dollar then it can come to the 1st rank in the top 10 coin ranking which is the powerful achievement.

The reason behind ripple market is that some major banks have started to use ripple in their banking system and banks will prefer to accept centralized currency ever if their potential ability in coin. Ripple helps a lot to make inter-banking super fast, not only bankers but outsiders would also be able to take benefits from trading ripple coin.

Ripple is currently leading altcoins in market cap.. :) :)

The surge of demand for ripple caused it to become the number two cryptocurrency in market capitalization overtaking ethereum. It is said to be highly favored by the banks and the reason behind its current surge in price. When ripple prices rose continously, it attracts many buyers and traders especially those who want to take profit while the surge is ongoing.

Maybe the pumping and dumping team is more important than Ripple .But XRP really attracts most of our eyes. Its price is closer and closer to bitcoin .
Bitcoin is forked by many team , but XRP has only one team , so it is possible that XRP will take place of BTC one day .

Generally by looking at the price history, their has been a constant increase over the past weeks in most alternate coins in the market. Last week when the price of bitcoins fell down to ~$13,500, the prices of other altcoins increased by at least a considerable margin. Not to mention, the hype of some people built-up the crowd for a potential pump and dump scheme.
Another reason is that, some investors would ideally diversify their investments into some other coins and not relying into bitcoin alone. With this, they decrease their chances of losing everything and increase the possibility of them earning more in the future.

There is an opinion that Ripple is a product that operates under the control of bankers, whose task is to get the largest share of the crypto currency market. In addition, Ripple provides an opportunity for cheap transactions, which is especially significant against the backdrop of the huge commissions Bitcoin.

As i know Ripple is a cross-border payment system used by banks to transfer funds/money at a fast speed but with low charge across any country around the world and it is centralized. Imagine a digital currency that is backed by big banks globally and i think that's the reason why its market cap has skyrocketed that lead to the dethronement of ETC as a long time alt with the next biggest market cap in the cryptoworld.

XRP is a good coin though but you really have to be more careful because its centralized coin. People are just want to take profit easily that is why trading with XRP is good for them. The transaction fees are lower compared to bitcoin and I think social media gives big impact on the price of this coin, but if you hold much XRP then you must watch its price from time to time.

Probably to make some profit as the price is still affordable. I know that's why I purchased some XRP when the price was still under USD 0.20. I liked that I could get a larger amount of coins and wanted to "invest" on it as there were many Ripple related news and I was just learning about crypto-currency. For the time being I don't think I will invest more on XRP, but I also don't think I will sell what I have just yet.

That was a huge hype made by bankers and experienced traders who invested into Ripple and want the less-experienced traders to take an interest in that coin. So the less-experienced would start hyping, the price would go up and the experienced ones would sell on a high price all their coins they bought for nothing. A usual scheme for the market.

I, too, are interested in this question why people buy it, most likely because of greed when they see growth.

People heared a lot of Cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin in the mainstream media. They want now to buy and get the same profit like the people who buyed bitcoin 7 years ago. But they dont have any idea how a blockchain works or even what a max supply is or market cap. So they buy ripple because its cheap and they hope the value will increase like bitcoin, but that will never happen.

I invest in ripple because it is cheap and in simple terms it is easier to increase than the high value coin on the crypto market. In addition, the Ripple brings in its outstanding technical features, the community supports it immensely. For these reasons I can invest a lot in it and other investors just need to care about these things.

The main advantage of XRP in comparison with other crypto-currencies, of course, is that XRP works directly with banks. Several banks already now enjoy the benefits of Ripple, including Santander, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, Westpac and UBS. If something can attract the attention of banks, it is a technology that simultaneously allows you to earn more and save more.

Ripple seems to have been using most of their funding on sales and marketing, and some banks are effectively test driving the Ripple ILP. Almost none are touching XRP from what I've seen though. It's somewhat of a remnant from their startup days that they're now trying to push into the general public. It's in their best interest too, seeing as they personally hold over 62% of the whole supply and have full control over what happens with that remaining supply, including selling it into the market. They essentially have complete control over inflation rate, which I personally find an unsettling thought, because it completely defeats the purpose of a trustless, decentralized currency. It's like a private company version of the FED in that regard. This is why people buy Ripple.

Most people buy ripple because it is among the top coins in the market.  As for use case,  I believe developers are working to make its adoption mainstream.  Only time will tell

It is a very good coin which is called Ripple. Probably the main reason why people are buying and using it is the third point of the info. What the banking systems are doing most of the people want to do the same work because they know that this coin will not be the thing which will bring loss to them because the bank will never do like the work which will bring loss so that they can invest there without any kind of doubt.

It runs with long-term investment system so those people who like to invest for a long term are like it very much and these are the main reason why people are buying this.

I was asking myself the same question... For me Ripple is not a real cryptocurrency, its just an instrument for the banks to transfer money around the world. Of course thats a needed instrument, but what I dont really get is why so many people are buying into it. In my opinion Ripple should be for the banks. Guess people are buying it because of the hype and the potential growth. I also hold some XRP that I bought for about $.20, so who am I to judge?

It is just simple. Why would people tend to buy Ripple if it does not have mucj worth? So the reason that I can see why people are getting them self into buying Ripple is because they find it beneficial to have such altcoin either for long term holding or short term holding or it is just a great opportunity having such that have a great purpose or usage in the near future.

This is a centralized currency created artificially by banks. Therefore, her course will depend on the mood and in the bank.

We are in cryptocurrency dont like third party involve in cryptocurrency.
In the same time, we dont like ripple that issued by bank and they can freeze and issue more coin. Thats the problem and reason people will not buy ripple. Maybe people still does not know that problem so thats why they still buy ripple.

Your third point is probably the reason. People hear "banks use it" and they heavily invest in it, because banks are trusted these days. On the other hand: transaction times are pretty fast and fees are usually pretty low, so it is perfectly usable.

I am truly agree with this gentlemen. When people hear that bank uses this token, they are snaping up.

That's the real world of Crypto-Currencies today, people are driven by mainstream media and news speculations, and also in YouTube. That's the main advantage of coins that has fundings and just simply paying youtubers and media to push out their coins. People should should be aware on what really inside the coin box and not consider media as reference, and referral.

We are sure that this is a very weighty argument in favor of buying XRP. Now it is considered the most undervalued currency of the four leaders in the cryptography market. In other words, the currency turned out to find application in the real world, but it is still very cheap.

There are several reasons why the cost of XRP is so low. First of all, now the attention of most investors, both large and small, is focused on BTC and ETH - that's why these currencies continue to grow in price.

People are buying Ripple for a safe investment. This tendency is driven by mostly the public sector banks and financial institutions of many countries. Like India and China the high population countries are using this so the demand is increasing day by day. Also the fees for this blockchain system is very low as like the Dogecoin. But Doge has not got the time now but expected soon.

Most people buy ripples because it is among the best coins on the market. As for the precedent, I believe that the developers are working on its adoption. Time will tell.

I guess we will be seeing a lot more of ripple fans. I heard they are partnering with MoneyGram, what do you think guys? For me, I still don't believe ripple will stay for a long period of time.

Because they have a proven working product and  many deals with banks .They are going to be a big player in international money transfer. They already made a deal with moneygram recently.

I still do not understand why banks would transfer their value into such a volatile currency..

Other permissive blockchain solutions such as HyperLedger by IBM, not requiring a currency to be issued, will do what Ripple does but better with an already trusted brand.

Why are people buying Ripple you ask? Well, I would say that it has the potential to replace bitcoin as a payment option and store of value. It is very unfortunate that the majority of people do not realize that Ripple will be trading well over a hundred dollars is a year or two.

The reason all this is happening is because people are looking at price, not the market cap. They don't even care to do any research - if the name sounds good and the logo is aesthetic, they buy it. That goes for at least 50% of the newbies in crypto.

People are buying to make a profit when the price increases, XRP can reach higher in coming months which makes it worth buying.

Ripple is better suited for short-term investments (up to half a year) than for long-term

They are starting to trust the cryptocurrency. Since Ripple is being managed manage by bank, they will probably going for ripple. Plus the fact that ripple is a centralized currency.

robably to make some profit as the price is still affordable. I know that's why I purchased some XRP when the price was still under USD 0.20. I liked that I could get a larger amount of coins and wanted to "invest" on it as there were many Ripple related news and I was just learning about crypto-currency. Now I have learned to do my own research.
For the time being I don't think I will invest more on XRP, but I also don't think I will sell what I have just yet.

Ripple is something centralized. I never invest in ripple. Their supply is being controlled by their team and we don't know what they will do in the future. This uncertainities made me get away from ripple coin.

Have you looked at the rest of the market lately?  Seems like you have focused on XRP and missed the fact that every other crypto has also corrected.  Based on your comment, the price of all of them were very much exaggerated.  Can't have it both ways.

Simple, to make more Bitcoins/ETH or to increase their fiat holdings. That's all nobody is interested to help bank by make their transfers easier on Ripple's Blockchain. Technology doesn't matter here only money matters. Go to XRP's reddit page 90% of the posts there are about the price predictions of XRP.

I am afraid this coin is used to rip(ple) off many dumb people who have no clue in what they put their money. After all lose their money, banks and gov's will say crypto's like bitcoin is a ponzi scheme like ripple created to steal money. Literally i can create same "network" chain with plenty of coins in few days alone and sell to newbs and tell them is free to send and receive(no tax fee) then i close "network" which obviously is 1 server :)

Yes, Ripple will have dominant position in banking industry. But why digital asset holders sell their ETH and BTC and buy XRP? Ripple isn't cryptocurrency and doesn't have the same purposes as BTC...
