Title: My Top 5 Privacy Altcoins for 2018
Post by: CoinTherapy on January 04, 2018, 05:28:11 PM
Spent some time recently looking for low marketcap, high growth potential privacy altcoins for 2018. All have a marketcap below $50m and not on any big exchanges yet but have active developers and good tech. I'm sure I missed some good ones but here are the best 5 I found recently:

1) Lux
2) Zoin
3) Solaris
4) Phore
5) Hush

I go into more detail and explain each one in this video: https://youtu.be/X0waJTP96bc. Let me know what you guys think.

Seeing what happened with Verge there's definitely a possibility for some great returns, the only question that I have is one of thinking how many privacy coins do we really need? I feel the market could become saturated and then returns would be not so great.

I agree that the market is getting saturated but people will always flock to different coins to find the next big thing. A few months ago Verge would have been a joke if you recommended it to someone.

All these coins are low cap project when compared to big boys like Dash and Monero, but if one or two of these list have Verge like growth it is enough, I believe privacy coins will continiue to be big player in the space

Personally I like XSPEC.
I agree that there will be increasing interest with privacy coins this year.
Many choices but I like xspec and the tech behind it the most

It seems a really good coin! As far I can read here and there they have not even start an active marketing!

These are not privacy coins, they all have rich lists. When you send coins to me I can look that up in the blockchain, see how many coins you have and with whom you transacted:

https://explorer.luxcoin.xyz/richlist
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/zoi/#!rich (https://chainz.cryptoid.info/zoi/#!rich)
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xlr/#!rich (https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xlr/#!rich)
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/phr/#!rich (https://chainz.cryptoid.info/phr/#!rich)
https://explorer.myhush.org/richlist (https://explorer.myhush.org/richlist)

Xspec too by the way
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/#!rich (https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/#!rich)

they're NOT private, all of them...

does anybody here do the least amount of research before they trhow money at something, or y'all just parrotting whatever some dude on the internet says?

Those picks are very weird and probably speculative. I would still prefer to choose monero dash verge xtrabytes and zash over all others as these coins proved themselves over time mostly.

I'm always interested in new privacy coins, but are there really any that can go up against the king, Monero?

Ya indeed, those picks were the worst.

But Dash doesn't really play along anymore in the privacysphere. Also, they have optional privacy and not on the protocol level. If a person is the only person using privacyfeatures, he sticks out, don't ya think. It's just a bitcoinmixer implemented in the protocol.

Verge actually proved nothing at all. They were supposed to hide IP's, but their wallet doesn't even do that: http://xvg.keff.org/ and we're still waiting for the wraith protocol, which should be stealth adresses, but those alone are totally not enough for reaching privacy.

Never heard of xtrabytes, but they also have a rich list, which means the blockchain is searchable with your address, so not private at all: https://blockexplorer.xtrabytes.global/richlist

zcash has a set of its own problems (because of the optional privacy which is, as already said, a very bad design choice). Quesnelle did some research, almost noone uses shielded transactions, and when used they can still be linked pretty easily: https://z.cash/blog/new-research-on-shielded-ecosystem.html

There is a reason why XMR is the new chosen currency on the DNM's you know...

At this moment, no!

Monero is the only coin with mandatory privacy on the protocol level, with the option to make it not private with the viewkey. Other coins are the other way: public blockchain with optional privacy (and mostly that optional privacy isn't as good as xmr's privacy).

So, no, there's nothing else, there's a reason why xmr is the new chosen currency on the DNM's...

best regards

Ya, show me the white paper and I will happily believe you when I can check how they will achieve that. The only thing I hear is promises that they'll achieve this. I don't invest in promises, certainly not in crypto where 90% of coins are scams (even without devs knowing they are scamming). So please, show me a peerreviewed whitepaper, otherwise I call vapourware....

Just checked your post history and saw that you attempt to rip apart any coin that isn't Monero so your intentions are clear. If you have questions I would highly suggest taking a look into the XSPEC slack and talking with the lead dev, as he is pretty active. Might clear up any questions you have.

well, it's alos not difficult to rip apart... they're not privacy coins, they all have rich lists, compare this to monero:
https://moneroblocks.info/richlist
no rich list, because the block chain is opaque: addresses are hidden, amounts are hidden, outputs are mixed, ... there's litterally nothing there in the blockchain...

so, I'm not ripping apart, if you want to use a privacy coin that isn't private at all, be my guest... but then why not just use litecoin... If I was trying to sell you a lamborghini and you could obviously see that it's just a stupid Renault, would you buy it because I promise it will become a Lamborghini?

about going to the lead dev: sorry, no, the normal scientific process is: you write down your theories, you vet these theories with references to scientific papers that actually prove stuff, you have your theories peerreviewed by other scientists who can be able to detect flaws in your thinking processes, who can make addendums etc... Then you publish this white-paper and you ask for a review by the scientific community. If all this works out positively, THEN you can go and sell 'a privacy coin'...

But selling something as private while there's no paper and no peerreview is just an empty promise, until something is delivered. And in crypto, you don't invest in empty promises, or you'll get burnt...
I'm here since 2012, I learned (and not always in a nice way) how these things go down. Don't invest in promises alone...

True potential for 2018, one of the (if not the) earliest privacy coin.

Did not have its big pump yet but make no mistake, it is coming soon.

If someone is investing in very low marketcap coins then they are speculating to the highest degree. The thesis is that one of them will make it through the trenches to the $1b+ threshold and make you a lot of money. At one point all of these coins had to start from the same place; low marketcap, only on crappy exchanges, no hype, skepticism over the product, etc.

btw hush has also used trusted setup. Have to check other mentioned coins, but from my experience, unfortunately most of coins I checked either have some strange definitions of privacy or just pretend. Most of them don't even mention (like in a roadmap) particularly meaningful features.

Solaris is a great privacy coin with (currently) a low market cap.
PoW ends in I think April. Then coins will be minted via masternodes AND PoS.
Zerocoin protocol will be implemented on January 20 2018.

I highly recommend checking it out.

Tto me the most interesting project announced atm is https://www.mobilecoin.com/ (https://www.mobilecoin.com/), although it doesn't covers all aspects of privacy (Project is still at least half year away from release.) it does cover most important things 95% of peopla cares about. One will be able to sent money anonymously (Will use stellar lumens) to friends, family etc. by using encrypted chat clients like Signal (Mobilecoin is actually Moxie's project.) and WhatsApp. On the link you can find whitepaper, and there is an excellent, very detailed wired article, which explains how everything should work: https://www.wired.com/story/mobilecoin-cryptocurrency/ (https://www.wired.com/story/mobilecoin-cryptocurrency/)

we'll see about Q2 2018, weird, with 15+ cryptographers still no technical documents that can be peerreviewed... You realize that such supernew things should be peerreviewed and seriously tested... Q2 is quite the shorte timeframe, lol.

You are just being ignorant, or you don't read what you comment? People who use public addresses are visible, those who use stealth profile are not visible in the richlist. This was already mentioned. Yes we know Monero uses private profile/stealth addresses per default, and as the only option. How Monero integrates w/ Tor or I2P network? All xspec nodes run inside Tor, never leaving it (Never using exit nodes.), and it also supports OBFS4 (Tor obfuscation) for countries which block Tor. You don't have to answer, the question is rethorical. Monero still doesn't have something like that, but they are working on it. Well, xspec is also working on making private profile being default.

That is wrong. There are only two developers, who know what they are doing. I think he meant 15+ years, not developers.

Edit:
Actually he probably meant cryptographers with 15+ years of experience.

I know privacy altcoin become more popular recently. Many people talk about it. But why we nneed so many of privacy coin? I think one or two is enough. Monero is still the first one of my choice.

im a big fan of Spectre coin for reasons already discussed on here, i luckily bought in at 1USD.  Out of al coins i hold Spectre and B3 have the most active communities and developers by far you see improvements being made daily whereas other coins theres no information from the last 1 month.

There are different reason to like more privacy coins. First many of them are not private, they just pretend to be, b/c they know most of people won't care, they only like to hear somewhere 'it is a privacy, secure anonym coin'.

Choice is good. Some have different capabilities. E.g. xspec works inside of Tor network + obfuscatoin in case you are in country which blocks Tor (This sometimes need additional help/configuration, but developers are always ready to jump in and help). Monero still works on their I2P solution.

Competition is good.

Very often return is better with low value coins. E.g. if you bought xspec one month ago, you would pay 40 cent. Current price is ~ 4.5$. That is return of 11x. We all expect it to go much further with price.

I am still buying the coin, because I still think it will continue to provide a nice return for a while. I think the coin has potential to reach 100$, but even it it goes to 20$ only, it is quadruplicated investment.

Then again, check the mobilecoin.com project. There is a whitepaper on the page, and there is a great wired (Just google wired mobilecoin.) article explaining technical details. If you know who is Moxie Marlinspike you will probably like this coin.
Mobile coin lacks some aspects of privacy, but it provides (It will provide, it still doesn't exist) enough privacy for 95% of people. People will be able to send money anonymously over encrypted chat clients like Signal and WhatsApp (These chat clients will be wallets at the same time.), so the focus is on normal average Joe's, comfort and security. It is quite nice, just open Signgal and send your friend money to help him or borow him, or pay someone without anyone knowing how much and what you have paid.

So, you see, we don't have enough privacy coins.

And why there is no Monero, DASH. I would also add XSPEC and Verghe. This is also a private coin. The developers of these coins promise us complete privacy when using such coins

Verge is not a privacy coin. Public blockchain, and it leaves Tor network trough exit nodes. Regarding Dash I have to check, but I think they also have public blockchain, though they use mixing what is good, on another side also masternodes.

The main thing about privacy coins these days is not about the tech but rather adoptability, which is one of the main reason why monero is priced highly up there.

A lot of coins mentioned above actually have good tech but poor adoptability. How do you solve that? You need a good team and to be hosted on big exchanges.

Those coin look interesting but in my opinion these are the top coin for 2018 :
1. Exscudo
2. Boscoin
3. Crypterium
4. Aurora token
5. Bobs Repair

Exscudo and boscoin has its own blockchain.
Crypterium will be the biggest competitor to tenx
Aurora will kick etherdelta they will have sidechain.

I think ZOIN looks very solid. There may be strong growth. He really already was but this is only a drop in the ocean because capitalization has not exceeded 40 million.
Xspectr even now looks very interesting and can make a bunch of exova as there technology is very good. I even think that in the future Xspectr obodai Monero, that's what he's still got potential.

Don't forget Verge (XVG). Wraith protocoll is already working and hides the IP-Address. They are working steadily to improve privacy.

actually, it does not hide ip's: http://xvg.keff.org/
Wraith protocol is just stealth addresses which isn't enough for privacy at all... timing analysis can be a bitch as you can see in this research: https://z.cash/blog/new-research-on-shielded-ecosystem.html

In 2018 there will be new great projects with new crypto giants. But now among coins with low market cap I prefer to invest into LMC, KickCoin, QVT, Worldcore and PKT. However, in any case, I will hold main part of my portfolio in bitcoins and etherium.

It seems MobileCoin is going to be really big deal soon. It has been just announced that Binance Labs will lead a $30 mln round of fundraising for the project. You can check some more details in MobileCoin's medium: https://medium.com/@j_10523/mobilecoin-cryptocurrency-designed-for-everyone-a36d3355920b.

Apart from huge investment MobileCoin will enjoy “priority consideration” for being listed on Binance as part of the relationship, according to https://techcrunch.com.

Nice video. Out of all of these, I've only heard about Zoin and Hush and both have some degree of potential to them.

Again, this is something that people shouldn't hold for the long term but rather trade in the short term. Because there is so much competition in the privacy coin scene, it's hard for a certain individual coin to catch up to the big players. Rather, by investing in these coins you're just hoping that their value can go up in the short run.

If you're actually wanting to invest in privacy coins in the long run, then I'd still recommend looking at coins with larger market caps. For example, Monero is one of my favorite altcoins at the moment to hold. Don't expect these coins to go up much in the short term, but unlike small caps I think they are a much better long term store of value.

P.s. please don't buy into verge, it's shady af.

Did you read and understand what Op asked?
He wants a suggestion and advice on 5 anonymous coins but with low marketcap and high growth margin! Do you think that monero or verge are?
Also, have you read about Verge in the last few months? I would not be surprised if it, from one day to the next, has the same fate as Bitconnect.

My Top5 coins for 2018-2019 are:

Safecoin ------- still not present in the exchanges, Komodo's first fork with unique technology, atomic swaps and private exchange
Solaris ----------- $ 6.5milioni
Spectrecoin ---- $ 7 million
Kore ------------- $ 5 million
Rupaya --------- $ 2 million

With each of these five you can do x100 in 12-24 months, and you'll still be under $ 1 billion in a market that is likely to be $ 2-3 trillion!

When it comes to investing, you want mostly "safe" bets, with a few Wild Cards, the OPs 5 alts are super high risky, super Wild card alts, but these can come with the biggest gains.

Considering the future price of Bitcoin $100+ by next halefening, im taking a much more "secure" route. From the top privacy coins,
i have picked $ZEC ZCASH.  It has the best of both worlds, it allows both private and non private (traceble with some effort) transactions,
has a really solid team and is now on Coinbase, i know i can put a big % of my corn into a ZEC Sac and sleep well at night.

Trading at only $58  (previous all time low was around 2 years ago, $30) so ideal entry price.

Dash used to be called Darkcoin, was instamined and is controlled by a few people, not a coin id recomend.
XMR has a good team also, just never had a good "gutt" feeling about it.

XVG would be my pick out of hte lower capped coins. (rnked 46th on CMC) and currently pretty much at ATL prices.
