The whole market of cryptocurrencies is down with over 25%, in the last hours it started to increase back a little. Dont worry it is just a manipulation from the big guys of cryptos to get the price down so they can buy when the price is low and sell back when it gets higher.

Soon all the coins are going to increase back even higher than before. It is not the first time when this happens and surely not the last time. Dont sell anything, my recommendation is to buy even more while the price is down

Just another day in the crypto world. Prices go up and then prices do down. Buy when low and sell when high. Just hodl your bitcoin and the price will increase after this dip, it always does.

That is actually part of Bitcoin's or cryptocurrency's system as it is a community driven digital assets. It might be a manipulation by big players on the market, volatility or due to the issues in the Bitcoin system which I am hoping that upgrades will be on it's way and one thing is we all know it already that Altcoins are dependent to Bitcoin because it goes mainstream and in widespread adoption that is why Altcoin's prices are affected too. It could be for payment or investment purposes. But don't you worry because the price will bounce back very soon just be patient or maybe buy some now for the future.

It's just a normal thing in the industry. Prices do fluctuate from time to time so no need to worry. Players who has big investment tend to manipulate the market at some point, the demand of Bitcoin is quite high but the supply is low which also contributes to the fluctuations. Anytime soon price will rise up again just be patience.

decline and rise in the price of bitcoin and altcoin like cycles occur, where as bitcoin decreases therein altcoin rises in price and as bitcoin rises altcoin prices decreases, bitcoin price drops are common, and soon I think bitcoin will go up, just be patient waiting for a bitcoin rise.

The price is only going down because of the fucking korean regulations + government issues.
Thatis the only explanation that you are probably looking for

Do not pay attention to the others who are saying bullshit about it, because that is the only explanation.
And most altcoins went down by more than 10% on coinmarketcap, because the korean exchanges got delisted from there.
So the average of the price changed drastrically.

This caused a huge panic selling and the price went down by a lot

I also don't know why the value goes down again and this is for a long period of time unlike before whenever bitcoin drops after few weeks it manage to appreciate and become much valuable but this time it became stagnant and move upward very slow and for the record it didn't reach again this year the last years highest value which is $19000. Maybe there's some corrections that is happening now

You could also add that bitcoins is terrible right now, and the network is far too congested to be usable! You can't even get a transaction through without paying a high enough miner's fee! That is a huge turn off for most people for sure and has driven a lot of users to switch to something else like ETH or, amazingly, DOGE. It will likely turn around after an upgrade is done to the protocol.

Apparently this is becoming very common in the bitcoin market, and therefore I think that those of us involved in this matter of crtyptos should be accustomed to these continuous oscillations. In fact, since the price approached $20,000 in the month of December, it seems to have entered a very consolidated price range where the midpoint is around $15,000, which means an excellent opportunity to earn a lot of money in who devote themselves to swing trading.

There are always ups and down in the bitcoin market wherein its just normal but moreover the increase in the price value is much greater than the downside. Bitcoin will anyhow recover soon back to its usual price value and this will lead to more optimistic view for the bitcoin investors.

Well welcome to the world of crypto currency! As someone who’s been in the coin since about 2013, you’ll need to get used to the price fluctuation. One way or another it never stops.  It appears you’re new to the community, so welcome.  My advice and Lester day trading  crypto currencies, It’s best to not keep us close track on it, and get yourself all worked up and scared that it’s going to fall off a cliff. Bitcoin is stable at $ 15,000. Actually this is the value that people accept so it can be so stable. At present, the big investors have not returned to the market, so the prices of the coin have not increased too high at this time.

Bitcoin is down because of market correction, this is considered usual in any investment market, it happens when the price get high that very few people are willing to buy, the result is loss in demand and price drop, this event is just temporary. I think you need to take this opportunity to invest as the price is cheap compared to its actual value. One thing is for surein bitcoin, and that is it will continue to go up as it becomes more popular.

it's our chance to buy bitcoin if the price is down and we sell again when the price is nik, the factor that I know because of its many or the opposite of its investors which resulted in bitcoin price up or down so it's normal value manipulation so they can buy when its price drops and will sell it when the price goes up again

The trend of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole is that it reaches several peaks and mang highs and then separated by a lot of lows which also promots people to panic sell which reduces the price more but consequently gives chance to people to invest again and then go up in prives

Its normal to bitcoin's price to get down because it depends in the market sale. If you're curious that what about if bitcoin's price get down and never get up. Then im telling you even bitcoins go down to its minimum price. It will still go up. More people are expecting and only depending to its price thats why there are too many user of bitcoins. And these people wont continue to invest in bitcoin if its price will forever be down.

This mentality should be take place inside crypto industry, knowing that the value will bounce back and never to panic when things like this is happening.
I understand that you are looking for some point where explanation can be provided but there's none actual one just a supply and demand pattern, those
who already gain sell and those who's willing to wait will hold and buy more.

There is no problem about it. There will always be times when Bitcoin is down. We cannot avoid that. The same is true to all cryptocurrencies. That is part of the life of a cryptocurrency. We should not treat is as an indication that it is not as strong as before. We should be worried on the contrary, when Bitcoin will not even try to dip a little. That means it will come crashing down rock bottom very soon. A little dip does not have a very heavy reason why it is happening. So no big deal about it. A reason is there when Bitcoin will lose more or less 40%-50% of its current value overnight.

Title: Re: Why is Bitcoin Down?
Post by: Scorpion on January 09, 2018, 03:34:40 AM
It's a correction from the supply and demand of Bitcoin, it will dip a bit and then rally again. We know that over time more money gets put into Bitcoin so it means temporarily people are selling for funds but that won't stop Bitcoins overall growth.

Bitcoin is down for a number of reasons, one of them being the insane transaction queue times and the huge fees associated with that part of Bitcoin.  If the fees were lower there might be more exchange movement in a bullish direction, as it would allow for people to move a lot more of their money more freely and cheaply compared to what we have now. Big transaction queues are the primary enemy of Bitcoin right now, as they slow the network and make it worse for everyone involved, with fees and everything like I commented on before.

It might see more bull runs in the future but for now it's going to be pretty spotty at best for the market. Good news to come, ideally.

it's a simple equation, Bitcoin is a decentralized virtual currency, It's controlled by none, Bitcoin holders are the major mechanism of this platform. Bitcoin selling and buying ration is the responsible for the change of the price. So it also depends on the market demand that's why it will not be a static price anymore.
But in recent times, Bitcoin has made a tremendous impact on the money market and day by day It's becoming an influential system on the monetary platform.

We don't need to be surprised that bitcoin fluctuates less than 30%. Maybe we are used to that. The encryption market is like this. It often rises and falls. I think this drop is related to the normal launch of the South Korean government. South Korea has recently restricted foreign exchange input and the real name system for digital currency transactions.

the currency market is highly volatile they goes up some time and they may go down sometimes So we can say that now the bitcoin price down to the $15,350 which is a good amount. The main reason of bitcoin may be the shifting of the people from bitcoin to other currencies so the supply is high in the market and the transaction and uses of bitcoin is less as compared to the past.

Well it didn't happen only to bitcoin, most of the crypto in the market also takes a dip. The real reason is that coinmarketcap disregards the value of crypto in korea due to high appreciation of each coins in their country. They remove that price upon averaging the real price of crypto in the market. It is called price correction in the community.

A lot of governments in the world are still under consideration and review for setting up new rules and regulations for cryptocurrency.
But as usual, before they come up with any innovative ideas, they will put “crypto currency” aside their legal system.
This time is the same. Korean government investigate the deals and transactions that were done by some of their banks. They considered it illegal and decided to ban or elimiate cryptocurrency out of their standard transaction and economy.
However, time will tell the result. But in short term, there will be a lag in the price of all cryptocurrencies but it will br over soon.
Hope everything will be Ok and our world can move forward to a new erA

Bitcoin prices are influenced by some rumours, and because the decentralized system depends on the demand and sales of the bitcoin itself. If the demand for bitcoin increases then bitcoin prices will be high, but if investors sell their bitcoin then the price will go down too.

But for now, I read in some media there are two factors that cause bitcoin prices down. The first Microsoft Companies is not accepting payment via bitcoin anymore because bitcoin transaction is very long to processing just one transaction and high fee from one transaction. And the other reason is Coinmarketcap removed Korean exchanges from the market cap. That's why bitcoin price down, perhaps by next month the developer of bitcoin will launch the lighting network to speed up the process of bitcoin transactions.

Well, I think there are many factors that could affect the rise and fall in the price of Bitcoin. When it comes to the rumors you say I do not know. All I know is this, I'll try to explain some of the things I understand about Bitcoin price changes. First is the number of blockchains that are mined. If more Bitcoin is mined, the amount of Bitcoin in the blockchain will be less, it means Bitcoin will be scarce and the price will be higher. Second, someday Bitcoin will run out and can not be mined anymore. Third, more and more people are looking for Bitcoin for various reasons, such as invest, business, trading, and saved because it is believed to be the currency of the future.

It's just part of volatility process and the price will be occasionaly corrected, there is nothing strange about it and nothing to worry about. Maybe some users are surprised now becuse they've expected that price will touch 20000$ immediately after new year and that didn't happen.

An important factor was that the other day co-founder of Bitcoin.com, the largest industry website, Emil Oldenburg, said that Bitcoin had no prospects, and he himself got rid of bitcoins. He called investing in crypto-currencies "the most extreme of all possible," and he is confident that people will start out of bitcoin as soon as they understand how this system works.

Cryptocurrency is a volatile market and the bitcoin price is driven by the laws of supply and demand. The price increases if the investors want to buy bitcoin and the price decreases if the traders want to sell this cryptorrency. You need to know that even small movements of bitcoin can have a huge affect on its value because bitcoin has smaller market sizes as compared to fiat currency.

Because this market is a bubble, and like every bubble sooner or later it explodes, bubbles aren't stable by definition. The only reason Ethereum is increasing, in the top 15 currencies, and also yesterday for a few hours Bitcoin Cash, is because people are converting their cryptos to these two currencies in order to sell them, because instead of BTC, BCH and ETH are a lot faster and cheaper for transactions.
It is exactly what I did last weekend.
Soon it will be a hell for the people who remained inside.
This for the short-medium term, for the long term (2/3 years) I am very positive like everybody else here.

The reason why people are selling is because a lot of investors have put their money into BTC to receive their proportionate amount of the new coin that is created after the fork occurred. Now the fork is cancelled, they are re-investing in altcoins.

Bitcoin is down because rumors that the chinese government is going to ban local cryptocurrency mining because it burns too much energy.

If you are a long term believer in bitcoin then you shouldn't be worried about short-term price decreases.
Bitcoin has no where to go and short-term price decreases just make the currency more stable, it shows that even though all those bad messages came out, bitcoin was still able to survive, it gains more trust from its holders and brings newcomers.

I don't think that the recent decreases could be counted as "bitcoin goes down" more like bitcoin fixes its price.
It went up really fast recently, nothing can go up so fast without going down to fix its price.

Bitcoin is down and believes me it is a just short-term sideways trend but the long-term trend is still in an uptrend which can be visible in the weekly and monthly timeframe. The sideways trend normally tends to react in such way that it takes out the weak traders out of the game before the new and bigger rally starts and right now this downside correction is just trying to shake out the traders from the game by creating such a panicking movement that the traders who are already holding their positions they just exit from there. you better stay away from these sideways trends or just hold your positions if you can do it.

Just another day in the crypto world. Prices go up and then prices do down. Buy when low and sell when high. Just hodl your bitcoin and the price will increase after this dip, it always does.

I agree. I think it's just normal market movement and trends. Even if bitcoin is the most powerful amongst all cryptocurrencies around the market, it won't be possible for it to go always up every time. If that happens, the cryptocurrency market would surely fall because it would be one-sided favoring only bitcoin if it is the only asset that has the capacity for continued rise. All others would be left in the rubble, basically in the wake of bitcoin's dominance. And it's not actually going down, the market is moving and playing, which should be good because we know that there are other assets that's gaining besides bitcoin.

Right, and this is usually the best time to invest again your money in bitcoin. This kind of dip are what most of us are waiting so that they can add more to their first investment in bitcoin.  The volatility of bitcoin is an issue ever since so we don't have to worry about the frequent price change. Sir it was a normal thing, that is the proof that Bitcoin price is volatile. There are times that it will pump and there are times it will dump. This happens in a single period of time and it is not surprising. In this scenario we shouldn't panic and be bother because suddenly it will be back to normal. this is natural thing for crypto, fluctuation can happen based on news or whales moving from one coin to another, usually when BTC price is decreasing another coin is raising pretty quickly.
After the pump there is always a dump for another coin (people will always go back to BTC after they rose the wave for some gain).

You can lower your demand in a country, product of an attempt to regulate bitcoin, as in the case of China in ek 2017. This drop in demand causes, of course, the decline in prices. But, this cheapening, can be used by investors from other countries. And in that way, take it back up. As we see, its ubiquity, makes its market truly globalized, does not depend on the conjunctural factors of a single country.

Bitcoins price is down because of the market strategy. Those people behind the big cryptos are making it down so that they could afford to buy. After that, the price will go up again. This is a strategy in investment, buying and selling. Expect it to go higher next week.

If your line of reasoning were in sync, one would have expected to see the price of Bitcoin crashing way down to below the $10,000 price mark, but last time I checked, the price have been ranging between $12,000 and $17,000 and any seasoned trader would see that as normal and expected - markets usually enter into a correction after some significant movements up or down. It can be likened to the market catching a breather, before deciding on its next move!

At the moment the reason is that lots of the investors are moving towards Bitcoin Cash because they feel that bitcoin core doesn't have any future especially when the developers are on the fence about implementing changes to the block size.

There is very little evidence to say that this is happening, even if the early numbers at the end of last year seemed to suggest that. Bitcoin may have had its market dominance eroded over the last year, but if you look at Bitcoin Cash dominance, it peakes around 10% but is still floundering now below 10%. Even Ethereum, which had its run early last year and is at all time high now, can barely manage 15%.

It's probably true that a lot of people are at least temporarily switching to alts to move around funds, simply because of the Bitcoin network congestion, but I personally haven't seen anyone or any service I use abandon Bitcoin. Developers are not "on the fence", haven't you been following updates?

In fact, the period that Bitcoin Cash spent the most time and money actively trying to displace Bitcoin was when BTC was at its highest.

I am agree with you. Though bitcoin is dawn now a days dont sale it now. Wait for this month end it will definitely rise.  I think may be due to new year celebration people may have sell their bitcoin. this might be a one reason. Another reason is may be due to increase in bitcoin transaction fees . If you see the other currencies like ethereum and other currencies their transaction fees are less. So may be most of the people has invested their money in other coins. Though these may be the reasons of fall in price, it will increase soon . wait for few months.

Korean exchanges was always on top of the market last year, I always see KRW on top of the market, they're the biggest contributors because chinese people buy from them. But I'm afraid of what will happen if their government plans to implement taxing every crypto related gains.

Bitcoin can not constantly grow in price. Due to the fact that he is exposed to high volatility, he periodically after growth needs an adjustment. Also, he is sensitive to the news of the crypto currency market, then increasing, then falling in his price. After a big recent rise in bitcoine prices to $ 20,000, now he has moved on to the adjustment and floats in the course. The uncertainty of the situation with the price of bitcoin and the slowdown of its growth is largely due to the accumulated shortcomings of bitcoin - the slowness and high cost of its transactions. While this is the reason that bitcoin does not increase in price.

This is pure demand supply mechanism. Lower price is the result of profit booking. More people are selling Bitcoin at higher price and again people will buy at lower price which eventually result in surge of price rise.

Yes there is nothing to worry about all these downfalls of bitcoins. These are just casual, yes all those people who are new in this field this might seems them some horrible but this is normal. It is just a normal dip that comes after a strong pump. Last weeks of December 2017 prices were just jumping and reached to such high level within a week. So this is a definite thing to come after.

Recently, South Korean has been hugging the limelight and there's a speculation that they are going to put a tighter regulations about it and there's a FUD that they are going to follow China's footsteps as well. We all know that South Korea is a big market for crypto, however if the rumor is true then we are going to be affected significantly.

Yes, I would agree with you. Eventhough as of late we have been seeing a slump, I'm sure that this is just a temporary setback. Actually this is a good opportunity to buy bitcoin because its quite cheap. Because once bitcoin price jumps again, you will be happy that you made a good move to buy it back when the price is at a discount.

Bitcoins are constantly going downwards in some recent days and i think it is because of the FUD from china and the government of south korea about banning the exchange markets. This is really causing a huge caos in the blockchain and most of the peples are panic selling their bitcoisn which is intensely making the price go down. I am sure as soon as the price goes much down, peoples will start investing in bitcoins at a good dip and bitcoins will again go up.

Is a usual trading pattern for currency market and including cryptocurrencies. It fluctuates to push people in and take people out for profit  ;D

It happened last year too but basically stayed bullish through out the tail end of last year, so we should expect a proper correction that will settle the market for another run.

Meanwhile, bitcoin has shown to be a very promising coin and withstood the pressure of shielding off to $11 thousand plus till now. Is going to rebounce soon when all the Asian news settles down.

The price raised too much to fast in December, so see this just as a sharp correction. When you compare to where we stood a month ago, most of us hodlers should still  be in profit and price seems to stabilize now (at least I hope it will). If it continues to fall, you will see good opportunities to buy more coins cheap and wait for the next rise.

Bitcoin is continuously reduced due to a series of bad news from the Korean market and China prohibits bitcoin and cryptocurrency. This information directly affects investors and makes them feel nervous so they sell their coin in a massive way leading to the whole market decline. But if you follow, this is just a move to bad news to gather the speculators and they really succeeded. The market is recovering gradually.

Bitcoin no matter what the issue that make it down will not stop to increase. Yes its price and value is now lower but when it hits someday you will find the huge profit it gives. So better buy for now as the price is low.

This situation on the market that the past week brought was caused by the manipulation of the powerful people that were eager to achieve their own goals with the lowering of the market curves.

Recently, Bitcoin touched the highest price mark. Many people sold their accumulated Bitcoin is order to cash the profit, resulted in more Bitcoins in the market.

As Supply increases but demand remains same, hence price went down.

It is up again, soon cross $4000 mark (maybe in next couple of hours. It was the chance to buy Bitcoin as moderate lower price.

You can still buy BTC and make extraordinary profit out of it.

Bitcoin is the future of the internet. You don’t have to buy 1 BTC to start investing in Bitcoin, you can buy Bitcoin with as little as $1.

So when they see price is going down, some sold out early thinking that their investment is at risk. What they didn't know is sudden drop of price in cryptoverse is normal. Just my opinion.

down in the sense of time to buy because if the price goes up then would be hard to buy

when it comes down on buy for supply and when a new ride is on sale
