What is Xtrade?

As of September 2017, there are almost 50 standalone cryptocurrency exchanges, facilitating trading in more than 1000 individual markets. Daily trading volume for cryptocurrencies is now equivalent to several billion USD, with a total market cap of over $150 billion. The majority of the trading is concentrated among the top 20 exchanges, denominated in multiple currencies ranging from crypto ones including Bitcoin and Ethereum to sovereign ones such as USD, GBP, JPY, CNY, and KRW, among others. Predictions point to growth toward a $1-2 trillion market capitalization in several years, and a corresponding 1-2% average daily trading volume of $10-$20 billion.
 
Asset managers are beginning to see increased demand for cryptocurrency exposure in their portfolios, over 70 active funds are being created to enter the market, and the regulatory climate is warming.2 However, the market is nascent, and large spreads are common between exchanges on the same crypto pairs, allowing for ample arbitrage opportunities that don’t exist in more efficient markets.

The inefficiency is a product of cryptocurrency trading markets being highly fractured in terms of execution, account setup, automated access, liquidity, execution speed, pricing, and security.

COMPLEX WEB OF EXCHANGES

A combination of differing KYC policies, means of funding, interfaces and APIs results in a fragmented patchwork of liquidity for cryptocurrencies. Trading in an automated fashion with full awareness of best pricing and current liquidity necessitates the opening and use of accounts on multiple exchanges, coding to multiple API’s, following varying funding and withdrawal procedures. Once those hurdles are cleared, market participants must convert fiat currency to BTC or ETH and then forward the ETH on to an exchange that may not accept fiat, necessitating yet another transaction to convert back to fiat. Major concerns for market participants range from unmitigated slippage3 and counterparty risk to hacking prevention and liquidity.
HIGH FEES Execution costs are even more of a factor. Typical exchange commissions are in the 0.1% – 0.25% range per transaction (10 to 25 basis points), but the effective fees are much higher when taking into bid and ask spreads maintained by the exchanges. As most exchanges are unregulated, there is generally no central authority or regulator to examine internal exchange orders that separate proprietary activity from customer activity and ensure fair pricing.
THIN LIQUIDITY A large institutional order, representing a sizable percentage of daily volume can move the market for a product, and related products in an exchange by a factor of 5-10%. That means a single order to buy $1,000,000 worth of bitcoin can cost an extra $50,000-$100,000 per transaction given a lack of liquidity if not managed correctly and executed on only one exchange. By way of comparison, similar trades on FX exchanges barely move markets a fraction of a percent; those price changes cost traders money, and deter investment.

This is a very promising ICO. I'm usually not a fan of exchange ICO's, but this is different than the others I have seen. I will research more about it!

I've been looking into this one alot today, what I like is that these guys are veteran day trading and are focusing that knowledge on crypto, we need more professionals making the leap, over here in the UK the banks are absolute shitbags and will not stop trying to stop people buying it, so I'm seeing these kind of easy trading routes will open the doors even wider, will see how things go but the paper looks good.

Exactly this. A lot of the guys in traditional finance are sitting in their comfy corner offices and are afraid to make the leap because at our age that could shatter your retirement plans. I think our best bet is bright young minds, of course some will make the leap like the creators of Xtrade have but the course work for traditional finance is laid. With bright young minds, they can use the course work already established to make crypto alternatives.

That sounds like a really great tool. I can't wait for this to go live.

All I say is that this was LONG LONG wanted thing for many people. I am at least sick and tired of the online web trading; it is just not comfortable enough! So, this is really something I am looking forward to!

I think a lot of people are in the same boat about this issue. Now that regulations are coming and institutional investors are able to get in, xtrade and even tZero have a huge advantage over other exchanges.

Yeah, most financial institutions don't use exchanges on the web. They want a more secure, fast, and customizable application. I think this is the major problem in the current market that XTRADE will solve and it's the reason I'm most excited about the project.

I'm assuming they don't have a platform out yet. Maybe once they do they could transition from focusing on building to focusing on marketing it. This could be incredibly useful, so if they can get it in front of enough eyes adoption is sure to happen.

I think you're right. I can't wait for there to be a single point of access for institutions and even regular users. There are too many exchanges right now and it's a huge hassle. I think XTRADE will solve this and I'm ready to see it happen. I think once the actual platform is out, people will love it and not want to look back.

I don't see it right now, but from the roadmap, in quarter 3 of 2018, they will launch the Xtrade Pro Alpha. I guess when the time between it there is its early version, I also think this will attract the attention of potential investors.

Good question as I had the same one when I first learned about this project. From the whitepaper (page 32):

"Instead of generating a sum of XTRD tokens in a pool prior to the TGE, XTRADE will generate tokens only as funds arrive."

This is also another smart way to keep token supply low by being a function of the total funds accumulated in the token sale with the hard cap and soft cap as its upper limit and lower limit.

I don't know how reliable listico is, but it suggests this token generation will end at the end of Feb and the public ICO will run from March 1

Thanks for that article. I just read it. I'm glad to see that XTRADE responded to it and made a lot of good points. I'm not sure what the gain was for the person writing the article, but the points were pretty bad. For one, as a web developer, I have never found it "fishy" to use whois privacy. It's actually recommended for obvious security reasons. Second, it is not uncommon for people to build a working project before deciding to pay for a domain. Why pay for something you aren't actively using?

It's good that you shared that article because people should definitely do some research before blindly investing. With that said, people shouldn't always assume that privacy is a red flag and believe any article that people put together that tries to scare people out of investing in a project. There are obvious reasons why someone would choose to do that for personal gain or if it provides them with a competitive advantage. As a very careful investor, I see that XTRADE has a working and valuable product, good experience, a solid team, etc. Obviously, any investment in an ICO is a risk that you should research but I think XTRADE is pretty legit.

I didn't think about it like that, but you make a good point. I wonder why I don't see this method quite as often with other project. It seems to make more sense.

As much as I know this is a good project, I think the marketing department needs to work on their strategies and ensure more global outreach for the global community and cryptocurrencies ecosystem to become aware of this project. More interactions too probably from core team on this thread would do alot of good as well.

I think you are absolutely correct. Xtrade seems like a pretty good project. The idea of having a nice trading system is pretty cool. Yet, I think you are correct about them needing to work on marketing. Maybe it's not quite obvious because they have made it into some good articles. Also, I don't see much with the community. Hopefully they start working that front soon. Getting the community engaged is really helpful. I know many of us have a lot of questions and interest.

Yeah, that's a lot of ETH. I understand why some wouldn't want to drop that kind of money by initially seeing that. But, after reading the whitepaper and doing research, I think XTRD is a project that is worth a big investment because it's a promising project.

It's a good project but I wonder if the minimum contribution means that we can only invest that much minimum during the pre-sale only. Is it possible to invest less than 10 ETH in the future? Or is that the actual minimum you can invest to get in on this project? I'm trying to clarify.

It is quite disappointing that not much goes on around here, not even a member of the core team or founders make out time to visit this community here.

I think the project is poorly maintained due to the absence of follow-up from the team and dev, hopefully the team can provide updates to enable provide assurance to investors and developers.

It is obvious that this seems like a good project but if more team members are assigned to handle this community to disseminate information and keep it alive, it would surely be of good value to this project.

So far the project is not performing badly at all in terms of its TGE having raised over 70 percent of its hardcap of 45 million USD.

I agree this is a good project especially as its FIX API which has been produced and released during the second quarter of the year, we still look forward to the Pro and Dark version which is slated for Q3 of this year.

If they manage to achieve this in their timeline then next year, we expect to see XTRD SPA kick off in the 4th quarter of 2018.

You know many still confuse this project as an exchange probably due to its name Xtrade maybe a rebranding in its name might clear this at a first glance for new investors.

I don't think this is necessary, they are a technology provider in all cases hence are not costodians of any funds as they provide market data & execution, acting as the technology and infrastructure layer.

Also seeing that the low price is weeding people out and whenever I buy on Idex a see a few other orders always popping up around mine so I figure there are a few other guys in there accumulating as well, so eventually we will run out of sellers I’m guessing?

Same goes for me too as I started buying on idex when I see low sell orders. Not sure how the project will go but hope to see it moon soon. Might take a while though before it takes off.

Interesting article, learnt recently, Tether, one of the top 10 coins, also known as a stable coin in the cryptocurrency space, printed $50 million USDT. According to OmniExplorer, Tether transferred the amount to Bitfinex on 11th August 2018 at 11:03 a.m UTC, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchange platforms in the world.

This has led to the market claiming that Tether is involved in manipulating the market again. The community has also pointed out that Tether usually prints more currency when the market is bearish.

Having seen the last interview, I must say is a must see for everyone as it will make you understand more about the project.

Xtrade was at the New York Trading show, and this show helps companies to understand each other’s technologies, workflows, pain-points, establish good contacts and relationships. This would give the project the ability to promote their services in a more efficient manner.

I read they spoke to several crypto-only hedge funds that were interested in XTRD's real-time market data feeds and forthcoming GUI platform. And having the time to run a presentation during the all-exhibitions prime-time. I would say the market and interest for this is huge, am very optimistic for the project.

XTRD recently attended the Miami Blockchain Shift conference, where the CEO Alex Kravets, spoke on a panel with the COO & General Counsel as well as the SVP of Product Development of tZERO regarding Blockchain’s impact on Wall St, a great discussion facilitated by Stephen Obie of Jones Day. These conferences bring the project to limelight, just hoping it would attract more investors
