 I read your white paper, but there is only information about the distribution rules. What tasks are you trying to solve? What is the essence of your project?

Yes, unfortunately it will cost a bit of gas to send out all the tokens. We have a budget set aside for this. Hopefully the ETH price will settle down so things can be more affordable.


Thanks for reading. The essence of our project of our project is to conduct an experiment on the subject of wealth creation. We want to know if it is possible to create wealth through a free and fair digital currency distribution. The benefits of this are twofold: educating other attempts at reducing economic inequality, and (potentially) enriching those who choose to participate in the project.

Nice that the team puts up so much money from their own pocket in the beginning. The costs will be very high. at 22 GWEI that's $0.585 per transaction. For 100k transactions (which happens if this projects goes well), that's $58,500. If the project doesn't go well you'll end up spending less, but there's a higher chance that your investment will be lost because not enough people were interested in the distribution.

Ah, actually you have to use up to 29000 gas to transfer tokens, so that would be up to $0.887 per transaction.

The significance of your project is very shallow. In short, you want to test the waters here. If it will hit with the community, you will get huge money. Otherwise, you will still get a lil amount of cash. But you can say to yourself, you distribute tokens without a value and create a value afterwards because of these gullible people buying your tokens even without solid foundation.

Err ... isn't that how BTC was created? Out of thin air?  ::)

Why would it be so horrible if people decided they wanted this and it gained value? It's not going to gain value out of thin air. It's going to gain as much value as a large group of people attribute to it. If it's worth something to them, who are you say they're wrong and question their intelligence?

Hey, the tokens will come through after the second claim window. We tally up everyone from today and give everyone an equal share for the week. So you should see your tokens in around 12 hours. Don't worry about checking constantly, we'll send out an email once all tokens have been distributed for the week.

The roadmap has only the airdrop distribution as the main goal. Can you add more substantial objectives dev?

Our main goal is to conduct an experiment into the nature of wealth and value - to see if it's possible to generate wealth for everyone that participates in the project. The airdrops form part of this plan, to disincentivise immediate selling after our initial claim period. We think that learning more about the nature of wealth and trying to enrich people all over the world is a substantial enough goal, and unlike most ICOs we don't actually promise anything we aren't equipped to deliver.

If it makes you happy though, perhaps we could add blockchain to a toaster?  ;)

that's great, but why would anyone buy the tokens after the drops?

The idea is to see massive adoption because of a very low barrier to entry. If there's going to be digital gold, why shouldn't it be something that anyone can get?

I tried it and got the same problem: the whole process is a little bit too intricate, plus I didn't received any mail :(

It worked ok for me, waited 10 minutes, proved that I am not a robot, received my email and link, and sent my wallet address with success. I think the process is long but necessary to minimize overload and bots/attacks claiming... overall I  think it is a good process..... when it works, sorry to hear many are having problems

I did claimed for the first time but when I tried to claim for the second time, it said my email address already been registered. So I missed the for the second time. Is the second time process same as the first time? Or we can not claim for the second time if we already claimed for the first time?

I thought it went pretty well. I saw them say they had some problems with the servers, but they've messed with the settings and are expecting them to be more reliable next time.

There are some rumors out there flying around about this coin, as far as the 10 minute wait process doing some, uh, bad stuff. Not much info beyond that, though.

I personally didn't experience anything happening, and I ran full malware and virus scans just to make sure. The rumors may just be fud. but who knows. Still haven't got any coins yet, though.

Ha ha - good one. I do believe that something good will come out of this project. Like the idea of uniform wealth distribution. Just like the early adopters of bitcoin, when there was dream, but not much promise of wealth - this can also grow in value from collective adoption.

Yeah it's so weird looking back now. Then it was just this weird thing you can send to people, like reddit karma. It didn't have any value really. I remember sending someone 50 bitcoins just for showing me a site to stream bootlegged movies.  :-[

I think it might have stalled for now. It is a nice effort indeed. Based on last stats, 2252 participants got the first airdrop tokens. It has been put on hold for two weeks since then, and will be on hold till they email again - do not know when that would be.

This is something how the original bitcoin revolution started, and spurred the whole crypro movement eventually. Hope this turns out to be something of value and fulfill the ideology of uniform wealth distribution.

This concept of UNV being able to gain value is a very interesting idea and actually could work, especially with the airdrop incentive. I like the idea that you are very straightforward about this being an experiment but also provide reason and incentive for people to invest. Will there ever be a fee for transactions?

I'm still interested in getting a link to the Github repo because I think this is a really interesting project. I like looking into the technical details of such projects and how you plan to accomplish the goal of this project.

I can't imagine there would be fees since that tends to not align with the general idea of the coin, but it's definitely something I'd like to clarify. Does anyone have any documentation regarding that? I didn't see anything in the whitepaper about it but I honestly could have overlooked it.

I just read that there will be a fundraiser to raise ETH to prevent charging transaction fees. That is a large total supply you have there. 

Since they are free, the way I see it is that if you have more tokens then it allows for having more people to get in on it.

In my opinion, this experiment can only be successful if a very large number of people are able to get in on this coin. UniversalCoin will never have value if only a few people are able to use it. You need a lot of people. So I think the large supply is a really good thing.

I recommend reading the whitepaper, if you haven't already. From my understanding, the value is supposed to be organic. The whitepaper says that it is an experiment to find out if wealth can be generated by popular consensus. What types of solid plans to add value do you purpose?

What do you want UNV to do? This team already has a solid project in my eyes and I think the value could very well happen if enough people join in. I think they have a solid plan as is. I like how they put it previously:

Today, bitcoin has its value because people adopted it and used as a virtual currency - even attached fiat to it for conversion. Unless UNV can satisfy some use case, it will just remain as experiment. Just like the first pizza buy using BTC, maybe someone will offer to sell a painting for UNV, and that would do.

For example, checkout simbi.com - it has its own virtual token, that are used as temporary hold while bartering. Maybe the same concept can be applied to UNV outside of the closed environment like Simbi. Just a thought. I am sure there can be many such cases.

I'm glad the next drop is scheduled for tomorrow. Not bad for the second one only being a week or so behind. I'm wondering what went wrong with the first one and what they have done to fix it? I know they said they made changes so I'm not worried about them delivering. I'm just curious about the details.

As far as I understand:

1. Around the first drop, ETH network sucked and transactions were getting blocked for days, which made everyone anxious.
2. Price of sending tokens back is high, so whoever is behind this experiment, re-thought it to raise fund to cover this (which is going on now).

I sincerely hope this is not a get rich quick scheme for whoever is doing it - that would be a shame. I can see that there are many chunks kept aside for raising funds, and the current raise is termed as the first fund raise. It is ok to raise fund when needed, I just hope that after "N" fund raise cycles, the person behind this does not disappear.

P.S.: The Merit system sucks. I have been trying to contribute to the community meaningfully for many years - let alone past few days, and no one given a damn to spread merit.

I think it's important to understand the reason for the fundraiser and the fact that this project is an experiment to see if UNV can become very valuable. Many investors, such as myself, were concerned about transaction fees because we wanted to keep the experiment pure. I think that is why they chose the fundraiser. I'm not sure what other choices they had besides those two. However, obviously any investment and fundraiser is a risk. But it's also an experiment and there is a reward for donating. I think this team has been up front about the entire experiment from day dot so I'm not sure why you seem so negative about it.

This is being conducted in a much better way than any scam ICO. You know exactly what you are getting into - that is - there is no promise at all, and it is completely free. Do not understand the issue. Even if whatever 'tippytoes' said is 100% correct, I do not see any issue with that. How about you come up with such an idea? Missed the boat? Jealous much?  ;D

Thats a very true statement, especially when looking at some vaporware scammy ICOs. At least this is no beating around the bush. Its giving out a coin with nothing behind it and watch to see if the community can make it into something.

Okay, I am in the same boat as you so I get why you are frustrated. But calling technical issues unethical is a little ridiculous. It very well was just bad timing. Things are sometimes rough in the beginning but they are actively working to fix the problems. Lets all have some patience before we jump to conclusions.

Everyone is saying that the distribution was cancelled for today. I also heard that some people got it anyway and it is confirmed with etherscan. It definitely sounds like a tech issue with that being the case. I'm sure they will have it fixed. I wonder what the actual issue is.

There was no weekly distribution this time (again). The two payouts within the last 24 hours were for the two Fundraiser contributions in that same time period.

Does anyone remember what to enter for universalcoin when adding a custom token in MEW? I got them at the first distribution but they don't show up on MEW.

There is no way for them to roll back the extra distribution. According to a post on reddit, they are considering sending out everyone who was signed up
for the first distribution an extra 131k to make it even. The last thing they want is to ruin the experiment. I think they are going to solve this issue
the best way possible and make it fair for everyone involved.

That sounds like a good option to me. It takes care of those who were signed up in time. No matter how they do it, I know it will be fair because that is one of the major
goals of the experiment. I'm looking forward to getting these issues worked through so we can have smooth future distributions :) I kind of feel bad that the team has

I have been following it and I haven't seen any further details. I saw that the team has been working hard to find a solution and fix it. I think they will update us as soon as it's resolved. Just be patient :)

Nope, no word yet from what I can gather. They are still investigating the issue. I'm sure that's their entire focus right now. Hopefully they will be around soon to inform us of progress on the investigation. If anyone is on their Telegram, do you have more information?

They have updated about the problem on Reddit. Also, I just read that they are not planning to do the airdrop tomorrow because they are wanting to get things fixed first. The team is wanting to get everything working before they attempt another drop.

It is understandable that they want to get things right before doing another drop. I'm sure we will get an update this week on how they plan to move forward and when the next drop will happen.

Strange idea. You will share tokens to everybody and then will sit and wait for people, for some reason, will start to trade it.
As I understand, you want to repeat Bitcoin success. But it was the first, and that was the main reason of its success.

I'm in (little) trouble with this airdrop : i participate in time (on monday), registered on site and received mail. But my issue is : where do i have to submit my eth address !!? I saw some people already received coins... I was still waiting a new mail to ask my wallet add ....  ;D

I really wish I could participate in this. I forgot about the first distribution, second distribution had issues, waited a month for the next one, missed the random subreddit 24 hour distribution by a few minutes, set a reminder before the past distribution and still forgot, and tried to sleep early to catch the second window and woke up too late. 0x144014... was the first UNV coin, which was replaced with 0xbb325... UNV coin. They had issues with the first contract and distribution.

Does that mean that there are 2 different UniversalCoins in circulation, or have all the "old" ones been replaced by the "new" ones ?

I still have my old ones. Maybe someday when the new version UNV takes over the world then the old version will be valuable as digital collectibles ;)

The old ones still exist, but the new UNV was issued to old UNV holders before the distributions continued to balance it out.

The issue at the moment isn't funds to finance the gas costs, we are covered in that respect for the near future. The pause on the distribution and the introduction of the claim app are more about making the claim process more secure and fair, we think this is the #1 priority moving forward.

I'm waiting unpationtly for the App to release. I have the feeling that this project is gonna blow up our minds since its first of its kind.

We've been working hard developing the upcoming UniversalCoin app for Android and iOS! When the new app launches, we’re planning some changes to the way UNV is distributed.

We want to share some of our plans with you as we are very interested in the community’s feedback.

The major change we have planned is that we will be allowing for multiple claims. How will this work? Well, anyone will simply be able to claim as many times as they like each week. The total amount for each distribution will then be divided equally amongst all the claims.

Eg. There is a total of 200 UNV to be distributed. If there were 100 claims during the claim window, the each claim would be worth 2 UNV. If you claimed 6 times, you would receive 12 UNV.

Why would choose to allow multiple claims? Limiting the amount of claims (eg. 1 claim per person like before) opens to the door to fraud. Even though a mobile app, its still quite difficult to stop someone claiming multiple times without infringing on that person’s privacy, excluding people, or charging a fee. Like BuildBuildBuild has noted, going down a single-claim path would create a cat and mouse game with the scammers and fraudsters that would only hurt our legitimate user base in the end.

Under a multiple claim system, we can instead enforce that 1 claim = a certain amount of human attention, as we aim to have a single claim consume 5-10 minutes. We can do this in such a way that makes it incredibly difficult for a bot to claim, or for a human to claim more than any other human. People can claim multiple times, but in a fair and transparent manner.

While this might make the distribution more fair, it will potentially become less even, as some people will get a lot more UNV than others. We don’t see this as damaging to the experiment though - if our claim process is secure (it will be) then those people will have sacrificed more of their time than others and therefore deserve to receive more UNV.

By creating a fraud-proof system, we hope that we can give our participants more confidence that UNV is being distributed fairly and that their time is respected. We believe that confidence in our distribution system is an integral part of what will determine UNV’s future value.

These changes are significant, but in our opinion necessary for UniversalCoin to be able to scale and thrive. Thanks for reading and we’d love to hear what you think.

While that sounds good in theory, doesn't this still open this up to multi account abuse? Like if someone has access to phone simulators and some automation software they could just loop the process on a bunch of devices at once and have a constant stream of claims.

The concept is that the claim process itself can only be done by a human (eg. Repeated captcha style challenges), and would he engaging/laborious enough that doing it on multiple devices at the same time would be impractical.

The (unfinished) Android app was available temporarily on the Google Play Store a couple of days ago. Managed to get it & try it out a bit before it was removed/hidden again. I won't divulge too much since it's obviously still in testing, but it was a quick registration followed by a series of simple CAPTCHA-style tests. There was a progress/percent completed bar & each CAPTCHA filled it up a certain percent with the option at some points to watch an ad to gain 30%. The first day I tried it (twice) each task was worth 10% completion, so the ads (which seem to be 10-30 secs) were only worth 3 tasks. The second day I tested though, the tasks were only worth 3% each which made the claim process take significantly (3x) longer and made the 30% ad boost (now worth 10 tasks) much more helpful/valuable (watched two videos this round for 60% total). DISCLAIMER: I did make a mistake on the first or second task in this round so I'm not sure if that's why the percents dropped or if they were just still tweaking the formula. It seemed as though the claim windows will be open for a certain amount of time (on Sunday/Mondays) & we will be able to claim as many times as we can get through the process in during that time-frame. I just wanted to give everyone an update since information seems to be a bit scarce here.

Yeah I want the app too but I will rather wait for a good version instead of having a buggy beta which doesnt work as it should because a buggy app is just bad publicity and will only harm the project. So I will gladly wait for a better app :) just go on guys and change the world for a better.

UPDATE: We've completed the development work on our mobile apps that will enable the future distribution of UNV.

We're currently working through the steps of putting our submission through with Apple. Releasing an app on google is relatively straightforward, however Apple holds their devs to a higher standard. As part of meeting their criteria for cryptocurrency-related apps, UniversalCoin is now a registered company 🍾🍾 This was coming for a while now and it feels good to take the project to the next stage.

We understand the wait has been painful, we can only say that we want to do things properly and these things just take time. We're excited to roll out a robust process from global wealth distribution very soon. Thanks for your support 😀

Hi! In terms of progress we did run a quick beta test for the new distribution system on Android. From that we found a few issues with our server and load which we need to deal with, so we're now looking at restarting the distribution in December.

In terms of the switch to ETC - there is no action required and all ETC tokens have been distributed to the same addresses that held the old ETH tokens. Easiest way to see the UNV is to check the account balance with Trust (add an ETC account) or use MEW, select an ETC network on the top-right selector then add UNV from the available tokens list.

I had a little surprise when I saw that distribution had resumed today. I thought the project was dead.

What will happen with the Universal coin that was distributed earlier to ETH wallets? will there be a swap from UNV at ETH to ETC?

Also, the Android app is not working properly, when adding a new account it just sends an error message that user was already registered, even if the email wasn't registered before.

When the tokens from claiming will be seen on Ethereum blockchain?
It seems no change in balance after all claiming done(?)

the Reddit said they will send on the Tuesday after each claim window.  I am also waiting.

I don't know about it myself, so I think there is no choice but to be patient and keep waiting for the latest news, hopefully in the near future the team can provide information about it

As previously communicated by Adam, he and the original UniversalCoin team have stepped away from the project. This was due to increasingly sophisticated attacks on the claim process and as such the resources were not available to keep the distribution running fairly.

The crack team has assembled to start working on the distribution issues. Will provide further updates when we can. Any ideas still very much welcome.
