Will Ethereum become the world's first-largest cryptocurrency?

It certainly has the potential to surpass Bitcoin, not because it's better (Ethereum is a clusterfuck for so many reason) but because so many big companies are backing it because they are holding bags and big whales holding bags means a big pump to exit the market must happen sometime in the future. The problem is, ETH continues to underperform against BTC, and most people buy ETH with BTC, not with USD... so unless it starts performing great against BTC, I will not bother. I want more BTC gains, not more USD gains while I lose BTC (and that is what ETH is doing thus far, look at the charts).

In the long term ETH will collapse and BTC will be #1 for a lack of a better alternative.

I think sir the first largest cryto-currency is bitcoin. Because it is the root off all coins out there. If there is a chance maybe Ethereum would be the second largest cryto-currency. There are so many competitor coins out there like litecoin and waves for examples but if most companies would backing up ethereum there is a chance that this would happen.

In terms of features, Ethereum is far superior.

No bitcoin is crypto CURRENCY, it exists only for this purpose so it is more meaningful for bitcoin to be always #1 and biggest and most known one. We should not compare them.

Though Ethereum is doing quite well in the market these days, but that doesn't mean it will keep doing the same in future as well (it may, but I don't think so). We have seen the Ethereum network being compromised more than one time in past, and it used to be the reason for a lot of people to lose their money. I don't think too many people would like to keep their money in Ethereum for long term like how they do in Bitcoin, because we have never seen such things happening with Bitcoin other than the exchanges getting hacked which has nothing to do with the quality of the coin and if anyone lost money in exchange exploits it is all their own fault for keeping the funds in exchanges for long times. So basically, I think Bitcoin would always remain on the 1st spot as long as cryptocurrencies exist in the world.

Why will ETH collapse? And why wont BTC collapse in that case?

In the world of crypto currency, there are so many coins that have the chance to become the world's first crypto currency  however, if we take into consideration the value and rate of growth, together with the number lf investors  and progress of its yechnilogy, only a few can compete and one of them is eth. Eth has a chance to be the first but it will take quite a long time.

It very well may become the largest currency out there, being a base for so many tokens and all that. High transaction cost won't kill it with raiden networks release.

yeah. I agree with your opinion. bitcoin will still be the top of number 1, and even in my opinion, if ethereum will offset the bitcoin price itupun difficult and need different things, let alone be number 1. and it is true most people believe with bitcoin.

Not really. Ethereum is a step backwards when it comes to having secure money. When idiots can flood the network with "cryptokitties" then using Ethereum as a store of wealth is stupid and the fees in Ethereum are going up too and eventually you will only be able to afford off-chain transactions.

When the fees reach 100$ I guess I will use Litecoin for smaller transactions. The Bitcoin fees are supposed to go down a lot once segwit+schnorr+MAST kick in, we will also get to find out if segwit blows up or not.

I do not think it will be possible in a couple years as everything is btc based at the moment in the crypto world, anyone entering the crypto world buys btc first, so i believe eth will take few years before that can happen.

Nothing is constant has change, I can't vividly say that Ethereum will supercede Bitcoin but I can say both can become side by side competitor, but nobody knows the future yet so don't let decide let it come.

For me, yes, as it's better than Bitcoin. Most of my coins are ethereum based so I'm comfortable using it more than bitcoin. Bitcoin takes days and sometimes weeks to get through now which is quite annoying.

Maybe, but bitcoin allready did that. First born, first viral, first who have 15k usd price, first crypto accepted as payment method in some place and platform.

I think it could happen, because the volume of ethereum sales is always active compared to other coins. I also think that what can compete with bitcoin now is ethereum.

What do you mean first largest when we all know that even before Ethereum was conceived, Bitcoin was already here and have been ruling the world of cryptocurrencies? There was no point, even for a very short time, in the entire history of cryptocurrencies that Bitcoin was surpassed by any altcoin in the top place. From the moment crypto was created, Bitcoin was the one ruling it. Ethereum comes second only.

I think of all the coins going now, Ethereum has the best chance to displace bitcoin.  It is actually being used for its intended purpose.  You can't say that about many coins.  I noticed yesterday that if you sort coinmarketcap by tokens only, 92 of the top 100 tokens are on Ethereum platform.  It's got the ICO market on lockdown, and ether is being spent and used for every transaction those top 100 tokens are making. 

I agree with your opinion. Bitcoin appears early, but there are some inconvenient places than Ethereum.

The first crypto to appear is bitcoin, and finally the alternative coin is etherum. and now its value is bitcoin far above the etherum. the conclusion is bitcoin is the world's first crypto and with the greatest value in the world, whereas etherum is always under bitcoin, so I think it would be difficult for etherum to be number 1.

Ethereum have a potential but it is hard to tell if it we be the largest cryptocurrency in the future because there is a wide competition in altcoins now a day and there will be more to come.

Nah, i do not think so, there are a lot of other cryptos that are 100 times more better than Ethereum, only that this one is super hyped and that is the reason of why a lot of people are joining now.

nope, bitcoin is already ruling cryto world for years and not a single altcoins have surpassed it. ethereum have the potential but it can only be second or third just like the past days ripple overtake ethereum.

It could have been realized if not offset by the reality of the actual price then it will never be reached. but it basically is a nice coin ethereum fact and certainly could potentially exceed the bitcoin.

There is possibility for that to happen in the future if the bitcoin struggling with the transaction fee for longer periods.But in terms of price it will be harder to reach the value of bitcoins but in terms of marketcap value it may hit bitcoin in some years because bitcoin dominance getting decrease in the recent daus due to the transaction fee problem.

i think not it is a little bit overestimated to say that Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin because ethereum is still not to be not limited to a certain supply. Almost EVERY altcoin trader is buying ETH and transferring for alts. People are realizing that ETH is better tech than BTC - by a long shot.

ETH has very advandtages over bitcoin that's for sure! But ETH is currently showing one of its weakness : the max number of Transaction per second.
When you see that a simple kitties game is able to completly put the eth network in struggle it's not a very good news for me.
Other coins with better TPS and smartcontract and other feature will arise in 2018 for sure!

The world's first largest cryptocurrency you say is bitcoin and will always be bitcoin, there will be nothing else not even ETH I'd say. Even in the long term ETH won't beat bitcoin on the first spot, it can only be in the top 2 below.

I don't think it will happen, Ethereum huge coin and platform that is used by many people, but bitcoin is the first and it will always be. Although bitcoin almost overtake the price of ethereum but it won't happen that bitcoin surpass by ethereum the main reason was many people trusted bitcoin and bitcoin is first crypto-currency launch compared to ethereum. Maybe these two coins are having a good potential in the future when you hold these for a long term. The first launched crypto currency is bitcoin i think that was also the first largest crypto currency in the world and also near in the future.

the word first was already taken by the BTC,bitcoin was the first and the largest cryptocurrency that existed,ethereum can replace BTC but it doesnt mean he will be tagged as first,maybe second successful cryptocurrency but not the word "first" largest.

I think so, because there are only a few global reelections that the etherium must carry out before it becomes one of the most important crypto-currencies. I think Ethereum has the potential to surpass Bitcoin.. But BTC is the first crypto and it is more populer.. Eth is far more superior in technical terms. But the Eth has been compromised several times.. Lets see with the time. However Ethereum has the potential.. :) :) :)

The only problem with Ether is limited number of people proficient in its core language - Solidity.
Its complexity limits its usage and code verification - that is why I believe it will not be a platform of primary choice in the future although it will always have its place in the ecosystem. Other than soon-to-be-improved BTC protocol, I think NEO and ADA will exceed ETH in the near future.

Bitcoin is already the world's first-largest cryptocurrency.
It has so many payment avenues and use cases and is highly liquidable.
IT also has brand name recognition and market awareness.

I suppose you are wondering if ethereum will surpass bitcoin and be used in everyday life by a vast majority of people around the world?
I guess it has the potential to.
But I see the future as having several viable cryptos being used rather than just one dominating.

In fact, I would rather have it be that way instead of having one crypto have a monopoly over everything.
So I actually hope that etherereum (or any coin/token for that matter) doesn't dominate.

Potential is there, however, developers still need to implement their improvements for more adoption and let the network effect decide.

At ethereum, there are not so many chances against bitcoin to take the first place among the crypto currency. These coins are both in demand and grow in value together. However, due to the fact that bitcoin was the first among the crypto currency and is by far the most famous, it has gone much further than the rest. While it is in price out of reach for the rest of the Crypto-currency. However, over time, everything can change. If bitcoin stops eliminating its shortcomings, as now, and for a long time will lose its popularity, then it may very well be that ethereum will take its place as leader.

Ethereum is a "bitcoin" with a programming language in it.
This last thing gives him many possibilities to be expanded in the future and in my opinion, it can easily surpass bitcoins value.

I believe that Ethereum had already the largest and most valuable Cryptocurrency in the market since the last few years. Ethereum has proven to be the most popular and the strongest Cryptocurrency in the market today although Bitcoin has the most valuable market capital but Ethereum is already raised from being crypto underdog and will soon surpass Bitcoin's value in the near future.

Bitcoin today has become a product for the elite, which can afford high transaction fees.  By this, the project chose the path to a technical dead end.

For now, bitcoin is gradually being recognized by various countries, and many countries support it, but ETH does not.
And the continued rise in the price of ETH is due to the continued popularity of the ICO market. When countries start to regulate ICO, the price of ETH may fall a great deal.

Ethereum nowadays is the best and most used altcoin, and the second crypto currency after Bitcoin. Its smart contract platform increased highly the demand and the value of this crypto currency especially in the last months. But it is still ranked second after Bitcoin which is predicted to keep its first position for many years.

Yes I tend to agree, I think Ether will have more volume however because bitcoin is used more as a store of value it's use case will be much easier to defend and arguably justifies a much higher valuation.

I think that you don't account for both the info about Ethereum network being clogged at least as much as bitcoin network is (look at this Kitty app or whatever its name was) and the info about Lightning Network as a solution for Bitcoin high transaction fees that is currently on the verge of being operational.

Ethereum as a platform for blockchain based projects is very much in demand. It supports a thousands of projects by serving as the enabler for blockchain transactions. I believe that the community supporting ethereum is very dynamic one and focused on addressing the core concerns around blockchain like scalability and high transaction fees. It does have a bright future as compared to Bitcoin which has become more rigid in terms of applicability.
